This post should not be taken as a polished recommendation to AI companies and instead should be treated as an informal summary of a worldview. The content is inspired by conversations with a large number of people, so I cannot take credit for any of these ideas. For a summary of this post, see the threat on X. Many people write opinions about how to handle advanced AI, which can be considered “plans.” There's the “stop AI now plan.” On the other side of the aisle, there's the “build AI faster plan.” Some plans try to strike a balance with an idyllic governance regime. And others have a “race sometimes, pause sometimes, it will be a dumpster-fire” vibe. ---Outline:(02:33) The tl;dr(05:16) 1. Assumptions(07:40) 2. Outcomes(08:35) 2.1. Much attention recently has focused on far-UVC light, part of the spectrum of germicidal UV (GUV), and its promise for pandemic prevention. In the following medium investigation, we examine different kinds of GUV, their strengths, weaknesses, and crucial considerations in the real-world deployment of these interventions. Throughout the report, we emphasize four points that we believe have been lost in some public discussions of far-UVC: A great deal of uncertainty remains around far-UVC interventions, to the point that we remain uncertain over the relative cost-effectiveness, all things considered, of far-UVC light versus conventional (~254nm) GUV in many settings. Cost-effectiveness depends on deployment context, including the dimensions of rooms, installation type (upper-room, full-room, etc.) assumptions about the mixing of air, etc. Combined with certain physical facts about air and light (e.g. the inverse square law), this complicates strong claims about far-UVC's promise. BEST OF: For UFOs/UAPs we turn to Area 51 and Wright-Patterson; for atomic bombs we turn to Oak Ridge, Los Alamos, and Hanford. With the recent briefing of the upcoming UAP-‘disclosure' documents by late June 2021, the government has acknowledged that a series of Naval incursions with these craft could not be ruled out as interactions with ‘alien' technology. It's certain the wording will be leading, suggestive and confusing when the final report is published, but while enthusiasts gather around the disclosure campfire for a good story they tend to miss pertinent details already available to the public. Idaho has the highest per-capita UFO-sightings in the United States and it just so happens to be home to the Idaho National Lab, where nuclear reactors, energy, RandD, etc., were developed beginning in the early 1940s. INL crisscrosses between atomic energy and UFOs, particularly because of its location and the curious interest UFOs supposedly have in such technology in the hands of humans. It is also home to one of the worst and ongoing series of radiological contamination in the world.

Ernie, Jack, and Pablo discuss something likely to shock 90s babies; the cybercriminal “TarTarX” has stolen the data of 69 million Neopets users.
