Her first was in St. Petersburg in Russia, four years after the Bloody Sunday Massacre. The second, though she wrote first, is in New York during the Triangle Fires. Her third trilogy is set ten years in yet a new setting. How to Research Historical Fiction We also discussed the importance of research, and she shared how she did a lot of research for each book. Flora Brown was an entrepreneur as early as 10 years old. She sold her handmade potholders to the patrons of her mother's beauty shop while they sat captive under the dryer or waited their turns. She became hooked on earning money from her creative endeavors, but it was her love of school that led her to embrace a teaching career.
