We have the good, the bad, and the indifferent today, and you might be a little surprised to find out which one is which. Cacoma Knight is the one Emmy and Link don't have strong opinions one way or another about. It's not terrible, but it's basically just another version of Qix, an arcade game that goes back to the 80s. We talk about the flaws and the things that make this version stand out a bit. As for the bad category, well, that would be Battletoads. Link and Emmy discuss the series' promising roots and what makes this one such a let down for them. And then there's BOB, which is a solid run-and-gun platformer that our hosts rather enjoyed. And Link will tell you a bit about the sequel to this game that sadly never was. The Battletoads may have usurped BOB for the cover of the last Nintendo Power they discussed, but Link and Emmy are making BOB the cover boy he was meant to be in this episode of SNEScapades.

The Arcade Files

It's 1981 and arcades are in desperate need of some variety. Enter Qix, the first puzzle game for the arcades and developed by a married couple. Qix went on to be a initial big hit for Taito America and is an incredibly unique game to this day. What many consider a sleeper hit today, this game paved the wave for future puzzle games that would later pop up in the gaming industry. Enjoy the episode! It's a pic of me at my grandparents playing Football on the Atari 5200! My grandparents and parents bought heavily into the Atari 5200 system and games; and then, the video game industry crashed. Fortunately for me, my Dad loved garage sales and bought up everyone's 5200's and games. So we had 3 of those bad boys in our house. Unfortunately for me, Nintendo came around and grandparents and parents wanted nothing to do with "another gaming system". I will say, besides Football, I loved playing Breakout, Jungle Hunt, and River Raid! But my must favorite games were Star Raider and Qix! Ahh... The memories. P.S. this is why the SNES was my first Nintendo - since I had to buy that myself in 1990/1991.   (Outro) Thanks for listening to the RetroLogic Podcast! 80s teen comedies were tons of fun at the time, but were they a deeper influence than we remember? Plus, the classic puzzle-platform video game Lemmings and other brain busting games.    When we were independent enough to see more mature movies, we often chose from a variety of 80s teen comedies. Sure they were ridiculous, but they also presented relatable coming of age stories that stuck with us into adulthood. Plus, keep your mind sharp by playing the ‘91 classic Lemmings or other puzzle platform video games.  TechnoRetro News Mortal Kombat is set for a more mature and true to the game rated R version A Buckaroo Banzai sequel novel is finally coming from the original author The original Muppet Show will soon be on Disney+ Are you on board for a Willy Wonka prequel movie? How about a Young Guns 3 sequel? I Love My Cereal More classic cereals are getting the snack bag treatment with Cap’n Crunch’s Oops! All Mega Berries. And the Ghostbusters sequel will start out the hype with a General Mills cereal TechnoRetro Arcade Lemmings has been a favorite for 30 years. In this puzzle platform video game, you control a pack of lemmings (or more scientifically accurate; a ‘slice’ of lemmings) as you lead them to safety. And we would occupy ourselves with other puzzles like Tetris, Qix, The Incredible Machine, Minesweeper, and Myst.  What were some of your favorites? Let’s All Go To The Movies The 80s gave us so many great movie genres that have influenced us in different ways. But were Teen Comedies just mindless fun, or did they make a difference too? We look back as some of our favorite goofy, fun, sometimes raunchy selections and how they may have been deeper coming of age stories for all of us to learn from as we grew up.

Zoo Keeper is an arcade game created by Taito Corporation in 1982. It began life as a slightly different game involving a crab trying to contain tadpole eggs, but the idea morphed into a zoo keeper attempting to return the escaped zoo animals back to their cages. It was one of the few American-designed games that Taito released (with Qix and Space Dungeon being two others). In this game, Zeke the zoo keeper must control a menagerie of wild animals and keep them behind the walls of a zoo. The walls of the zoo are built beneath Zeke's feet as he moves around the outside of the zoo with one cage in the center. In early rounds, the wall is partially built when you start, but in later rounds, Zeke must build the wall from scratch. Unfortunately, Zoo Keeper came out just before the video game market crashed in 1983, and it was never picked up for conversion to any home system. It finally came home for the first time in 2005, as part of the Taito Legends classic compilation.
