Drawn to both the immediacy of surgery and the questions of basic science, she pursued a surgical residency with built-in research time, spending 2 years at the National Institute of Health studying translational regulation, an experience she credited with making her fearless in tackling the unfamiliar.In this discussion, Dr Meric-Bernstam offered a candid look at building a career without a clear roadmap. She emphasized that clinician-investigators must work hard, arguing that a meaningful clinical presence sharpens translational research by revealing patients' true unmet needs. Her work spanning cell signaling, mTOR biology, window-of-opportunity trials, and genomic testing led her to direct MD Anderson's personalized cancer therapy efforts and grow its phase 1 program.Beyond administration, Meric-Bernstam reflected on lessons from the lab, including a year of lost data that taught her to scrutinize primary results at every step, and her conviction in patient-derived models and co-clinical trials. Ultimately, Dr Meric-Bernstam described a transformational moment in oncology, where AI, comprehensive profiling, and newly druggable targets will reshape combination therapy. She concluded by reaffirming her mission to improve cancer outcomes, calling it the best job in the world.

Plans to reunite in New York City were ultimately derailed by visa complications, but the setback became the catalyst for the album. Instead, the pair spent a week sending Ableton sessions back and forth across the Atlantic, planting the seeds for a collection of songs that would later be brought to life during a dedicated recording session at Gothenburg's legendary Nacksving Studios, a site deeply connected to Sweden's 1970s political progg movement. The week proved especially momentous: the day after completing the recordings, the duo traveled to a courthouse in Borås and were married, sealing both their creative and personal partnership.

In today's Cloud Wars Minute, I explore how Oracle is redefining enterprise software by fusing AI agents directly into applications. Highlights 00:03 — Again, busy days here in the early part of 2026. I had a great video interview with Oracle Executive Vice President Steve Miranda. He's been in charge of applications development at Oracle for more than 20 years, and Steve made a few key points about these new agenetic applications. 00:56 — And his main point was, you take all the existing value that applications have had about governing processes being established, customers are comfortable with them, and then you enhance those with new agentic AI capabilities to allow those now, instead of just applications, these AI agentic applications, to do more than they had been able to do before. 01:59 — And at the same time, I think one of the big points here that Miranda said with these now is that business people are going to be able to spend less time managing their processes and more time devoting their efforts and energy and their technology to being drivers of business outcomes that they want: more growth, more innovation, better experiences for customers. 02:49 — This whole confusion, and in some ways this just crazy time we've been through, you know, where SaaS business applications are going to go away — I guess, you know, almost two and a half years ago, when Satya Nadella made this point — such an intelligent person. 04:07 — I think what Oracle is doing here, and especially in the words of Steve Miranda, is going to bring a lot of calm and assurance to people that it is not an either/or game: agents or business applications. His voice and his sound are the product of his family's legacy as carnatic traditional signers and of  a childhood in the Bay Area suburbs, listening to jazz and hip hop. Sriram has already achieved fame in India, his career expanded globally after singing for Grammy-Award winning composer A.R. Rahman, and he was recently featured in an NPR Tiny Desk Concert. He joins us in our studio to sing from his new album and talk about growing up Indian-American in the Fremont and what it's like to be more famous halfway across the world than where you went to high school. Summer is late in the city I stay in. There are discussions about it but no conclusions. Some say - enjoy the extended spring. Nobody minds, as there are high winds coming in from the south-west, and windows rattle. There is more time to get the air conditioners serviced.   But the intimations of summer have not ceased.   Much before the papers announced the hot days ahead, the mornings had started to get more humid. Joggers knew. Windows in cars started being closed and the air conditioning cranked up. Summer bushes along walking paths started flowering. Pink Bougainvillea, red frangipanis, yellow elders. Flower beds had amaranths, salvias and hollyhocks nodding away delightedly. And as I went to office, Red Road and the Victoria Memorial complex was strewn with gorgeous gulmohur and amaltas, the golden yellow shower tree, the purple jacaranda and the flaming royal poinciana. My drives every morning were ablaze with colour.   And I knew though it was a welcome, things would unravel in different ways. The tar on the roads would start to melt, as would the barely hidden anger on the edges of side streets. People would tend to get tired faster and more irritated. Fuses would ignite and punches landed. Relationships would begin to unravel and truths told in harsh tones. People would fall into lust more than they fell in love. And there would be too many misdemeanours conducted by common people in commonplace ways.   But legendarily people understand. Even as they fight and argue, they understand that the heat is a character in every situation. People make plans to go to the hills but some refuse. Summers are when they reveal themselves to their own. They write their most honest poetry. And understand the enormity of their misdemeanours- and do not hesitate to ask for forgiveness.   Springs just make you glad, happy to be alive, perky without reason. Autumns are for deep depression, to think of the worst life has every given as just desserts: it's the time for seeking redemption. Winters are to freeze inside, to not reveal oneself. Everyone is too embroiled in one's own battles of seeking succour and warmth, to be able to think of being benevolent.   But summer is when we allow everything to fall apart. Our clothes, our defences, our truths, our untruths. Even as the most iridescent flowers burst uncontrollably in colours which sometimes hurt the eyes, something soft inside wants to tell truths. It seems easier to give in then rebel, or wallow in stories with long lives. It's good to be ordinary and open.   Summers are the time for both passions and truths to find their own paths of destruction or redemption. Canadian-based Afro-Cuban duo OKAN takes their name from the word for heart/soul in the Afro Cuban religion Santeria. Both co-leaders, composers and multi- instrumentalists Elizabeth Rodriguez and Magdelys Savigne are classically-trained musicians (violin and percussion and orchestration); and their music combines the traditional chants and rhythms of the Afro-Cuban tradition with jazz, electronica, and pop. Singer Sid Sriram was born in southern India, but his family moved to Fremont when he was just a year old. His voice and his sound are the product of his family's legacy as carnatic traditional signers and of a childhood in the Bay Area suburbs, listening to jazz and hip hop. Sriram has already achieved fame in India, his career expanded globally after singing for Grammy-Award winning composer A.R. Rahman, and he was recently featured in an NPR Tiny Desk Concert. He joins us in our studio to sing from his new album and talk about growing up Indian-American in the Fremont and what it's like to be more famous halfway across the world than where you went to high school.
