Begin mei is de lente nu echt wel in het land want terwijl Stefaan en Bart Amaryllis Maisse en Nicolas De Ryck van CFMoto-importeur BW-Import op de rooster leggen, worden ze om de haverklap in de rede gevallen door een stel zwaluwen die zich net onder het dak van de redactie hebben genesteld. En alsof dat qua lentegevoel nog niet volstaat, blijkt de naam CFMoto afgeleid te zijn van het Chinese woord voor ‘lentewind'.   CFMoto gaat het sowieso voor de wind, want nadat het merk stormenderhand de quadmarkt veroverde is het stellig van plan om dat kunstje nog eens over te doen in de motorbranche. Op de vraag van Bart of de 1250 TR-G toermachine ooit naar Europa komt is het antwoord droogweg ‘nope', op het gehengel naar nieuws over de 225 pk sterke V4 die CFMoto op de Eicma toonde wordt ontwijkend geantwoord … of het zou moeten zijn dat we daarvan iets te zien krijgen tijdens de Isle of Man TT.   De podcast wordt gehost door Stefaan die met pretlichtjes in zijn ogen zit na een meer dan geslaagde editie van Ghent Motor Event, Bart is net terug van een trip door Zuid-Engeland en zag daar evenveel putten in het wegdek als dat hij tevreden motorrijders zag op Ghent Motor Event.   Naar maandelijkse gewoonte wordt de Motorrijder podcast u gratis aangeboden dankzij de steun van Richa, Shoei, Michelin, Yamaha, Triumph Motorcycles, BMW Motorrad,  SoloMoto motorverzekeringen en Wunderlich. Voor deze aflevering sloegen we onze tenten op in het hoofdkwartier van motorkledingfabrikant Richa in Oudenaarde. Alwaar rond de gesprekstafel plaatsnamen: Stefaan Buyze als opperhoofd van Motorrijder, Bart De Schampheleire als eeuwige sidekick en Stijn Rigaux, medezaakvoerder bij Richa en verantwoordelijk voor alles wat productontwikkeling aangaat.   Naar maandelijkse gewoonte komen de nieuwe motormodellen aan bod, Rigaux laat zijn licht schijnen op hoe motorkleding ontwikkeld wordt en hoe je als kledingfabrikant een gamma samenstelt. Dat Richa net terug de export naar de Verenigde Staten heeft opgestart en er meteen geplaagd wordt door nieuwe wetten en regels, beschouwt Stijn Rigaux niet als een onoverkomelijke horde.   Over hordes en hardlopen gesproken, ook de bizarre taferelen op de startgrid van de MotoGP-race in Austin komen ter sprake. Samen met Arno en Marijn crost Bart door de motoractualiteit, komt de problematiek van het legaal offroad rijden in België aan bod en mogen de Cabra Venturisten uitleggen waarom ze liever met offroad rijders op stap gaan dan met allroad rijders. Te gast in aflevering 25 van de Motorrijder Podcast: Heikki Sermon, in een vorig leven vertegenwoordiger voor KTM, nu directeur van Mettet Experiences en van de Belgian Motorcycle Academy.   Het circuit van Mettet heeft reden om te feesten, want dit jaar blazen ze daar honderd kaarsjes uit. Bij KTM hebben ze helaas veel minder reden om te feesten, iedereen weet ondertussen wel hoe hoog het water in Mattighofen staat.   Samen met Stefaan en Bart loopt Heikki door de geschiedenis van het circuit van Mettet, laat hij zijn licht schijnen op de jonge talenten die volop groeikansen krijgen in de Belgian Motorcycle Academy, hij kiest zijn favoriete motor uit de (vers van de pers!) Koopgids 2025 … en laat ook in zijn ziel kijken als het over KTM gaat.   Uiteraard komen motoren aan bod die we recent getest hebben; met name de Honda Transalp, de Honda NC750X en de Kawasaki Z900. Podcast nummer 24 is nog eens een onvervalste thuismatch, maar wel met een nieuwe spits! Vaste waarden Stefaan en Bart krijgen immers bijstand van kersvers redactielid Tom Van Appeldoorn.   Tom gaat voor Motorrijder en KicXstart werken en heeft vanuit zijn ervaring bij de Koninklijke Nederlandse Motorrijders Vereniging (KNMV) een prima zicht op wat reilt en zeilt in de Nederlandse motorscene. Dat er in één Nederlandse gemeente meer motorcrossterreinen liggen dan in heel België samen, snijdt Stefaan en Bart toch eventjes de adem af.   Gelukkig niet voor lang, want er valt ook in deze eindejaarsperiode meer dan genoeg te vertellen. Stefaan geeft tekst en uitleg bij zijn Marokkaans enduro-avontuur met de kornuiten van Cabra Ventura en jammer genoeg moeten we het ook wel eventjes over de malaise bij KTM hebben, een drama in meerdere bedrijven dat richting zijn ontknoping hobbelt.   We zetten een boompje op over de Honda CB1000 Hornet en waarom de Hornet in de voorbije decennia uitgroeide tot een instituut, Bart legt uit waarom de Benda LFC700 waarmee hij aan de rol ging meer dan vermoedelijk niet zal uitgroeien tot zo'n instituut.   Finaal moet Stefaan nog even met de billen bloot want in de vorige podcast sloeg hij de bal mis. Het vergiste zich slechts in één letter, maar in de motorwereld kan een F of een T voor een compleet andere motor staan.   Kortom: 45 minuten motorpraat om de kerstkalkoen of de cake van nieuwjaarsdag finaal mee door te spoelen, u vriendelijk aangeboden door BMW Motorrad, Triumph Motorcycles, Yamaha, Michelin, Shoei, SoloMoto motorverzekeringen, Richa en Wunderlich.

Aflevering 23 – december 2024   Voor deze 23ste aflevering gingen we nog eens op locatie, en wel richting het indrukwekkende lokaal van de BMW Motor Club Vlaanderen in Oordegem bij Aalst. Daar schoven we aan tafel bij Guy Timmerman, die veertig jaar geleden de club oprichtte, en huidig voorzitter Jürgen Vande Velde. Met deze heren fietsen we door de motoractualiteit, waarbij het nieuws van de EICMA nog even blijft nazinderen.   Daarnaast zoomen we met de erevoorzitter en voorzitter in op het succes van de BMW Motor Club Vlaanderen, want met tweeduizend leden bewijzen de BMW-rijders dat merkenclubs wel degelijk nog populair kunnen zijn.   Guy en Jürgen zijn daarnaast de geknipte personen om uit te vissen wat BMW nog allemaal moet proberen om een jonger publiek naar het merk te trekken, want de GS en RT blijven de cashcows voor de Beiers. Wie Motorrijder leest zal de naam ‘Traxio' wel iets zeggen want af en toe publiceren we in het blad de inschrijvingscijfers van nieuwe motoren, cijfers die ons door Traxio ter beschikking worden gesteld. Wie of wat Traxio is, legt Filip Rylant uit in deze 21ste aflevering van onze podcast.   Rylant is momenteel de woordvoerder van Traxio, maar was in een ver verleden Motorrijder-journalist en heeft nog altijd een groot motorhart. Sommigen onder jullie zullen al in vakantiestemming zijn, op de Motorrijder-redactie gonst het echter nog altijd van de activiteit. Zo keerde Bart zopas terug van een bedrijfsbezoek in China en was Stefaan tot vlak voor de opnames nog de modder van de Ténéré Travel Trophy in Slovenië en Kroatië uit zijn oren aan het spoelen. Vanuit de branche schuift deze keer Mario Janssen, Country Manager Benelux bij Yamaha, aan om een aantal trends uit de motorwereld van commentaar te voorzien. Zo lijkt het er sterk op dat we straks tijdens het motorrijden echt niet meer zullen weten wat gedaan met onze linkerhand, want na Honda en zijn DCT komen nu ook KTM, BMW én Yamaha met (semi)automatische versnellingsbakken. Bart Lammaing en echtgenote Jessica Leyne zijn niet alleen de oprichters van MotoMentals dat offroad en allroad reizen aanbiedt, het prettig gestoord koppel neemt elke gelegenheid te baat om er op een stel eigenbouw allroadmotoren op uit te trekken naar een of andere uithoek van deze aardkloot.   Dat levert niet alleen maffe verhalen op (zo kom je in deze aflevering te weten waarom je onderbroek de beste plek is om een telelens te bewaren), maar ook massa's tips over hoe je reizen met de motor budgetvriendelijker kunt maken (“In de meeste Stock Americains hebben ze alles wat je nodig hebt voor een avontuurlijke motorreis.”)   Bart en Jessica stonden al lang op ons gasten-verlanglijstje in de Motorrijder Podcast en ze hebben absoluut niet ontgoocheld: veertig minuutjes informatie en entertainment dankzij MotoMentals en met de gewaardeerde steun van BMW, Richa, Shoei, Michelin en onze nagelnieuwe podcastpartner SoloMoto motorverzekeringen.

De voorbije weken testten we de MV Agusta Enduro Veloce en de Husqvarna Svartpilen 801, twee merken die intussen tot de Pierer Mobility Group behoren. Meer dan genoeg aanleiding dus om Michel Sebastiani, directeur van KTM Benelux, aan tafel te halen voor een boeiende babbel over hoe Pierer en co al die merken naast elkaar in de markt gaan zetten.   Uiteraard hebben we het over het nieuwe nummer dat nu in de winkel ligt, blikken we nog even terug op het succesvolle Ghent Motor Event, zetten we de top drie van de Droommotor van het Jaar-verkiezing op een rijtje en kijken we alvast vooruit naar wat de jaarlijkse Toeren Special straks in de aanbieding zal hebben.   Dat de veertig minuten luisterplezier nog altijd gratis zijn heb je te danken aan onze gewaardeerde partners: Richa, Shoei, BMW en Michelin.

Het scheelde geen haar of er kwam ambras van, zo lijnrecht stonden Stefaan en Bart tegenover mekaar bij de opname van deze aflevering. Volgende keer halen we er sowieso weer een gast bij, kwestie van de kemphanen te kunnen scheiden mochten de meningsverschillen weer te groot worden. Het begon al met Bart die twee minuten ‘zaagtijd' vroeg, waarna Stefaan gelukkig het tij kon keren met wat positief nieuws uit de motorbranche.   De verkiezing van de Droommotor van het Jaar was het volgende twistpunt en ook over de meest overroepen motoren uit de geschiedenis geraakten de twee het niet eens. Geïnspireerd door de technische fiches van de BMW M 1000 XR en de Triumph Rocket 3 Storm – waarover je meer kunt lezen in het aprilnummer van Motorrijder – ging het over de meest ‘over the top' motoren waarmee het Motorrijder-duo ooit reed en guess what, alweer waren Bart en Stefaan het niet eens.   Toen het over de overname van het MotoGP-circus door Liberty Media ging hadden de twee de neuzen wel in dezelfde richting staan, net zoals ze er allebei rotsvast van overtuigd zijn dat Ghent Motor Event op 21 april een übercool evenement wordt.   Naar goede gewoonte kan het halfuur motorgeklets rekenen op de gewaardeerde steun van Richa, Shoei, Michelin en BMW Motorrad.

Een week voor de eerste MotoGP-race van het seizoen in Qatar strikken we twee kenners. Geert Lambrechts reed zes Belgische titels in de racerij bij mekaar en was in 2004 Rookie of the Year op het Eiland Man. Zijn zoon Bram is intussen goed op weg om zijn vader minstens te evenaren, want Lambrechts Junior werd vorig jaar Belgisch en Benelux Supersport-kampioen op een Ducati Panigale V2. Voor seizoen 2024 ruilt hij die in voor een Panigale V4R waarmee hij in het BK Superbike aantreedt.   Een ideaal duo om een aantal stellingen voor te leggen, zoals daar zijn: Wat vinden jullie van de tien motoren die we in het maartnummer van Motorrijder getest hebben? Hebben jullie in het voorbije jaar een tweedehands motor voor keuring aangeboden en hoe ging dat? Zullen we een nieuwe raceklasse in het leven roepen voor motoren die niet door de keuring zijn geraakt? Is het circuit van Croix-en-Ternois niet te klein voor een superbike als de Ducati Panigale V4R? Hoe groot is het verschil tussen een Panigale V2 en een V4R? Hoe jammer is het dat het Revival Festival van Sint-Joris-ten-Distel eind augustus niet kan doorgaan omwille van strikte lokale wetgeving? Maken we in 2024 de wederopstanding van Marc Márquez mee? Wordt Pedro Acosta dé revelatie van 2024? Gaat Geert Lambrechts in 2024 weer racen?   De veertig minuten podcast - met de gewaardeerde steun van Richa, Shoei en BMW Motorrad - vliegen voorbij aan het tempo dat vader en zoon Lambrechts er op circuit op na houden: bloedsnel!

Amper bekomen van de jaarlijkse schranspartijen die ook weleens ‘de feestdagen' worden genoemd zat de redactie alweer samen om een nieuwe aflevering van de Motorrijder podcast in te blikken - ook in het nieuwe jaar weer met steun van Richa, Dunlop, Shoei en Michelin.   De geplande special guest moest helaas verstek laten gaan vanwege corona (of hadden de jaarlijkse schranspartijen die ook weleens ‘de feestdagen' worden genoemd er iets mee te maken?) dus namen Bart, Stefaan en Dries met z'n drietjes plaats voor de microfoons om de belangrijkste vergelijkingstest van het jaar (te lezen in het januarinummer van Motorrijder) van extra duiding te voorzien.   Want die test van de BMW R 1300 GS, Ducati Multistrada V4 S, KTM 1290 Super Adventure S en Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer houdt de lezers duidelijk bezig, afgaand op de lezerspost die we erover mogen ontvangen. Verder gaat het in deze aflevering over krasse veertigers (met twee wielen en een motorblok, welteverstaan) en doen we onze motorplannen voor 2024 uit de doeken … waarbij vooral die van Dries de wenkbrauwen doen fronsen. Iets met een aftandse scooter en een rally, iemand?

De Sint is in aantocht en ook Kerst & Nieuw loeren om de hoek, hoog tijd om terug te blikken op het voorbije motorjaar. In het decembernummer van Motorrijder zetten we onze favoriete motoren van 2023 op een rijtje, in deze aflevering hebben we het over de motoren die het net niet haalden … en de tegenvallers van 2023.   Viel absoluut níét tegen: de EICMA in Milaan. Massa's volk, massa's standhouders en natuurlijk massa's motornieuws. Massa's kilometers ook voor redacteur Dries, die op weg naar de EICMA uittestte of je met een Rieju Aventura 500 daadwerkelijk met één tankbeurt duizend kilometer ver komt. Bart ging dan weer aan de rol met Suzuki's nieuwste allroad, de GSX-S1000GX. Rolde ook, maar dan niet helemaal zoals hij voor ogen had: Jorge Martin. We blikken terug op de titelstrijd tussen Bagnaia en Martin, benieuwd wat het volgende MotoGP-seizoen zal brengen.   Eindejaar betekent natuurlijk cadeautjes, dus Kerstman-van-dienst Stefaan schenkt in deze aflevering van de Motorrijder Podcast - nog steeds met de steun van Richa, Dunlop, Shoei en Michelin - zomaar eventjes drie Motorrijder abonnementen weg. In de aanloop naar de EICMA motorbeurs in Milaan worden we jaarlijks overspoeld door een pak motornieuws, maar dit jaar is er meer aan de hand. BMW (R 1300 GS), Kawasaki (ZX-4RR en Hybrid 7), Triumph (Speed 400 en Scrambler 400 X) en Ducati (Superquadro Mono blok) hebben niet alleen nieuwe motoren gelanceerd, voor elk van deze machines hebben ze ook compleet nieuwe motorblokken uitgewerkt. Van boxers over hybride aandrijvingen en gillende viercilindertjes tot dikke monocilinders met een onderhoudsinterval van dertigduizend kilometer: er beweegt meer dan genoeg in de motorbranche om over te discussiëren. Aangevuld met de vraag waarom Triumph én Ducati in de motorcross stappen en nuttige tips van Lewis Rigaux van Richa over hoe je warm en droog de winter door komt op je motor, dat belooft weer een propvolle podcast te zijn - zoals steeds met de fijne steun van Richa, Dunlop, Shoei en Michelin.

Staat te pronken op de cover van de Motorrijder Allroad Special: de nieuwe BMW R 1300 GS. Niet geheel ontoevallig is in deze aflevering Piet Lievens te gast; als voormalig BMW-concessiehouder, Benelux-verdeler van Touratech, BMW Motorrad offroad-rijinstructeur en reisbegeleider bij Uvuyo de geknipte persoon om de GS en bij uitbreiding het volledige allroad-segment te fileren.  Uiteraard gaat het over de looks van de nieuwe BMW hoogpoter, maar Piet laat ook zijn licht schijnen op de technologische vernieuwingen en is er rotsvast van overtuigd dat de R 1300 GS slechts een tussenstap is op weg naar nog veel meer technologie. Geen aflevering van de Motorrijder podcast - nog steeds met de steun van Richa, Dunlop, Shoei en Michelin - zonder sterke verhalen en deze keer gaat het logischerwijs over stomme stoten die zich op het onverhard afspelen. Veel luisterplezier!

De zomermaanden zijn ook in de motorbranche traditioneel wat rustiger, al wil dat niet zeggen dat er helemaal niks gebeurd is. In de MotoGP is er zelfs heel veel gebeurd, reden genoeg voor Pieter om zich te buigen over het vraagstuk wat er in de koningsklasse van de motorsport moet gebeuren om er weer wat meer spanning en tegelijk wat minder blind gevaar in te krijgen.  In het verlengde daarvan vragen we ons af of er zowaar een revival van de sportmotor zit aan te komen en hoe die machines dan wel zouden moeten klinken. Voor de volledigheid gaat het verder over Barts deurbel en een zijkoffer voor een BMW GS met ingebouwde USB-laadpoort voor elektronische toestellen.  Naast Dunlop, Richa en Shoei heeft nu ook Michelin zich aan de Motorrijder Podcast verbonden en die nieuwste partner geeft in deze aflevering een bandenset weg aan een oplettende luisteraar - van een entree gesproken. Dat al ons advies gebaseerd is op stomme stoten uit onze eigen motorcarrières (dat gaat van hemden die in de fik vliegen tot tenten die niet opgezet geraken) maakt het voor ons gênanter, maar voor de luisteraar net plezanter. Parts & Accessory folks - Do you want to grow? Are you currently retaining all of your customers? Sadly, based on what I see when I visit or consult with many businesses, the answer is probably not a yes. So, if you are bleeding customers at any level, what is step one? I had Richard Kimes come on the dealership fiXit podcast to discuss just that. Although he is no longer with Helmet House, Richard's most recent role was as their Chief Marketing Officer & Director of Training until late last year. You probably know Helmet House as your main distribution source for Shoei & HJC helmets as well as Cortech, Tourmaster and many more solid accessory lines. I know that when I was at dealerships I relied on my Helmet House rep as my main go-to for helmet training. That was some years ago and I know there are other distributors doing great things now but, for me they were the hot ticket. Richard says that of ultimate importance is that there is belief at the GM/Ownership level, that more of the right training can help. Vital is what he calls Customer Handling Training where scenarios can be used to help staff understand consumer expectations, nuances of communication and (example) if you are better off to sell what you have on the shelf or skip the turn and order them something else instead. Interesting thing to have to decide on as standard operations have always been that roll what is on the floor. But when is that the wrong choice? Having a background in advertising where he represented companies like Suzuki, General Motors and more seems to have helped Richard really understand what it takes to help move people toward the product or service you offer so please listen in for insights. I'm hoping these type of ideas can help dealerships like yours stop the bleeding, keep the "easy button" web sales away from your customers and set yourself up for a way to test and grow PG&A sales in the local market you serve. In this episode I answer an email from a listener who is looking to buy his first motorcycle and is looking for advice on how much to spend on his motorcycle gear. I take this opportunity to answer his question by discussing all the things I have learned recently about high end gear that is suitable for track riding, as I start preparing myself to start riding on the track in 2020. I cover the fact that I am facing the same dilemma that he is…how much do I spend? I discuss what I am learning about helmets, boots and track suits, and the approach I am taking to move ahead and decide what to buy. I also mention that I have decided that before I start getting very involved in doing track days, I first want to improve my riding skills, and learn how to ride properly on the track, by taking the type of training offered by the California Superbike School and Total Control Training. I also talk about the things I have learned about Shoei and Arai helmets and some special features of Dainese track suits and boots. I also share what I have learned regarding the design features that make a helmet safer and more effective in a crash. And I mention the importance of deciding how to dress for your ride before you get on the bike. Episode 220:   Our guest this time around is Robert Pandya, the team manager for International Motorcycle Show's Discover The Ride Initiative. Taking place primarily at the different IMS venues, (and some other places), DTR invites new and experienced riders, from kids to adults, to try out and enjoy five interactive riding zones, with the big one being an actual riding course on speed-limited Zero electric motorcycles. Instructors from Total Control Training provide guidance and instruction while safety gear comes from Cycle Gear, Shark, HJC, and Shoei. They got kids rolling around on Stacyc electric balance bikes. They let you get on a wheelie machine to feel what a wheelie is like. They got a dyno machine so you can sit on something that's really loud.
