Acknowledgement of Country//News headlines//We listened to a recording of discussions outside of the Federal court following the hearing on Monday 11 Novermber 2024 that was brought forward by Robbie Thorpe to have attorney general Mark Dreyfus added as a defendant to the question: Is our fire at camp sovereignty protected by Australia's constitution? The recording is of speeches by Uncle Robbie and lawyer Len Linden given after the court proceedings in which the judge acted in a gate-keeping role as Uncle Robbie attempts to expose the system for having no jurisdiction whatsoever. Shedding light on these historical cases is key, especiallly because there is a push to silence them. Find out more at Crime-scene Australia Website where you can find details of the cases and recordings of the speeches. The next case hearing is on Tuesday 10th December at 9.30 am at the Magistrates Court, 233 William Street, Room 4. Come along and bear witness. We listened to the first part of a talk delivered by Santiago-based Historian, Journalist, and Marxist Thinker, Vijay Prashad titled 'National Liberation Marxism & Western Marxism' , on November 1st as part of his Australian tour in collaboration with the Red Ant Collective, an anti-imperialist collective based in Naarm. The talk highlights the ways in which 'western marxism' has traditionally differed from the Marxism of the Global South (which goes widely unstudied in the west) and the importance of formulating revolutionary praxis based in theory and action with lessons from actual revolutions which have occured in the Global South. You can find all of Vijay's tour recordings on the Red Ant Website, and you can follow the work of the Tricontinental Research Institute here.We spoke in studio to Mariota from the Refugee Action Collective. She spoke to us about the work RAC are doing in the ongoing campaign for refugee rights in Australia including what's next now that the Naarm encampment at the Department of Home Affairs has wrapped up after 100 consecutive days of 24/7 protest. Mariota spoek to us about Labour's Deportation - the latest in a series of punitive measures targeting the small group of people released from indefinite detention since November 2023. The new measures seek to drastically expand the Government's powers, allowing it to warehouse people in third countries, reverse protection findings made for refugees, and continue to impose punitive visa conditions on those who remain. Write to your representatives to oppose this bill, and come along to the next Refugee rights rally on International Human Rights Day Tuesday 10 December at 6 pm outside the state library. We were delighted to welcome 3CR legend, Robbie Thorpe, to the show this week for NAIDOC celebrations. It was a rare opportunity to hear some things about Robbie's life away from the mic and we learnt a few things about the great man. Robbie intended to be a sportsman and was a keen footballer and boxer before a trip to the Aboriginal Tent Embassy changed his life trajectory when he was sixteen years old. He felt he couldn't be a sportsman in a land on which his people were suffering, and the rest is history. Robbie shares his thoughts on 3CR's broadcast series Beyond The Bars and we also hear some of his reflections on loss. Robbie currenly helms three programs on 3CR, including The Black Block, Bunjil's Fire and Blak n Deadly. Be sure to catch Robbie on one of his shows for some sharp, sovereign analysis, great phone calls and cool music. It is our honor this week to spend the full hour with Robbie Thorpe (Gunai/Mara), one of the most outspoken, well-known and respected Aboriginal rights activists in Australia. He is a former volunteer worker at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in the Australian capital of Canberra. Aboriginal Tent Embassy has been a permanent protest occupation site since 1972 and is a focus for representing the political rights of Aboriginal Australians located. Robbie is the host of two radio programs at 3CR 855 AM Community Radio - "radical radio, community radio" - in Melbourne, Australia. "Bunji's Fire" is a historically informed, critical analysis of Aboriginal affairs and the ongoing political movement for land rights, treaty, sovereignty and the cessation of genocide, which also features the best of blak music. It's heard Wednesdays in Melbourne, from 11 am to 2 pm. "Blak 'n Deadly" airs Fridays from 11 am to noon in Melbourne. The show informs listeners about the latest news in Indigenous music and theatre with First Nations presenters. When 3CR Community Radio hit Melbourne's airwaves in 1976, it was Australia's first community-owned and community-run grassroots radio station. Outspoken and independent, the station still gives voice to issues that would otherwise go unheard, and to people striving for political and social justice. Listen to 3CR online at 3cr.org.au. Both of Robbie's shows can be streamed live on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 7 pm Eastern Time in the US.In closing, Tiokasin talked about Akantu Institute, an organization that he recently founded. As part of 2018’s Seven Days of Resistance WAR: Warriors for the Aboriginal Resistance, held a Black GST Public Forum. Long-time Indigenous activists Tony Birch; Margi Thorpe; Robbie Thorpe; and non-Indigenous ally Clare Land talked Genocide, Sovereignty, Treaty. This audio is an excerpt from that discussion. A cultural warning: the audio here contains the voice of a deceased person: Alice Pearl Daiguma Eather’s ‘My Story is Your Story’. The music in this piece is ‘Spirit’ by bangarra dance company. At times Robbie’s confrontational, and while his is only one person’s view, he tells it the way he sees it, and we love him for that. "The only hope you got is the spirit of this land, which we represent and embody. Us. We carry that with us; that divinity" — Robbie Thorpe (Jan 26 2018) There's a direct and urgent link between genocide, ecocide, homicide & suicide. The Black GST contends that three fundamental issues must be resolved for the holistic wellbeing of the Indigenous peoples of the Australian continent: Stop Genocide; Acknowledge Sovereignty; Make Treaties. Until this happens, we all have nothing.

Djab Wurrung Eviction: Our Way, or the highway! The Djab Wurrung Heritage Protection Embassy blockade is facing eviction this week! For fifteen months now they have made a stand to protect more than two hundred and sixty sacred trees - of deep cultural significance and up to eight hundred years old - from being bulldozed by the Victorian state government to make way for a section of freight road between Melbourne & Adelaide that will save two minutes of driving time. Djab Wurrung have put a red alert call out NOW for people to come and support on the ground as they stand strong against the full force of the Victorian state. In the last few days hundreds of people have been visiting and staying at the camps, and this level of numbers is currently keeping the bulldozers out. So if you can make it down there over the next week, even just for the day, or longer, Djab Wurrung say please come!!With guests: Alfred Bamblett, Lidia Thorpe, Aunty Sandra Onus, Uncle Kevin Buzzacott; and guest presenter Robbie Thorpe from Fire FirstEarth Matters #1206 was produced by Nicky Stott
