How do you stand out in a world where more than a million people are calling themselves copywriters or content writers? You've heard all the "expected" ways to do it: find a niche, develop a personal brand, create a unique framework or unique mechanism. Those are all great ideas, but in this the 377th episode of The Copywriter Club Podcast, Kira and Rob talk with copywriter and membership strategist Robert Skrob who suggests a very different—and quite possibly better—approach to solving this problem. Click the play button below, or scroll down for a full transcript. The people and stuff we mentioned on the show: The Ultimate Sales Letter by Dan Kennedy Retention Point by Robert Skrob The Copywriter Club Facebook Group The Copywriter Underground Full Transcript: Rob Marsh:  Last time I checked there were nearly a million people on LinkedIn calling themselves copywriters. And almost another million with the title content writer. So how do you complete with two million copywriters? Many of whom are better than you? Hi, I'm Rob Marsh and on today's episode of The Copywriter Club Podcast Kira Hug and I interviewed copywriter and membership strategist Robert Skrob. Robert says that instead of figuring out how to outcompete everyone else, suggests carving out your own niche so you DON'T compete with anyone else. Creating a space where you're the only on doing what you do.  He also shared how he created a stead flow of clients to his business using a strategy we've never seen used by anyone else. It has nothing to do with LinkedIn or pitching or social media or just about anything else you've heard the so called experts say you have to do. Robert only works with high-end clients paying him at least $20,000 a month. He told us his “fishing for sailfish” secret for finding them. You're going to want to hear what he has to say. Before we get to the interview, I need to take a minute to tell you about the Copywriter Accelerator. But before you tune me out and think, I've heard about this before, we're trying something a little different. It's called The Copywriter Accelerator Fast Track… rather than taking 5 months to go through the program, you'll go through the business-changing or business-creating program (depending on where you are in your business)you'll go through the program in 30 days or less. And because this is the fast track version, it's the lowest price we've ever offered for The Copywriter Accelerator before. You owe it to yourself to find out more at thecopywriteraccelerator.com. And with that, let's go to our interview with Robert Skrob. Robert Skrob:  It's my honor to be here. It took, I guess I'm 148 on the list of the most interesting copywriters to talk to. Rob Marsh:   You're way above that. But, we just haven't been able to get with you. You're so busy. Kira Hug:   That's true. Rob Marsh:   With a such a great business. It's amazing to have you here though. Thank you so much for being here. Robert Skrob:  I'm honored. I don't hang out at copywriting events or speak at those things, but I certainly see copywriters struggle and become very frustrated. So hopefully, we can share some ideas that can help simplify this whole business for everybody. Kira Hug:   Sounds great. Well, let's start with your story first. How did you end up as a copywriter? Robert Skrob:   Actually, back in 1993, I was an accountant at a public accounting firm and hated it. I was there three months and left, took a job as a bookkeeper for a company that did consulting with non-profit associations, and I ended up buying that company about five years later. So, I had 20 associations that I was responsible for doing membership marketing, event marketing, sponsorship sales, and I needed to know how to get this stuff sold. I ran across Dan Kennedy about '96 and found his how to write a sales letter book. I can remember sitting at my living room coffee table going through that book chapter by c...

Robert is a subscription consultant and author of “Retention Point.” He has worked in subscriptions for over 27 years. Today Robert works behind the scenes with some of the biggest subscription brands in the world, focusing primarily on retention and helping them grow their business by losing fewer subscribers.Robert has found that retention issues aren't usually directly related to what a company delivers. Instead, they result from the brand's interaction and relationship with its members. As such, one of the main topics we discuss is the importance of strong engagement between brands and their subscribers. Many subscription businesses focus on acquisition, especially in their startup phase. But really, relationships are the critical driver of growth. There's often so much focus on what to deliver as a subscription service that most businesses don't even consider what type of relationship they're trying to build with their members.  Robert Skrob | LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/robertskrob/Membership Services, Inc. | LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/membership-services-inc-/about/Retention Point Book - https://www.amazon.com/Retention-Point-Membership-Subscription-Associations-ebook/dp/B07CZXD289  Ready to get started with Rebar? Head to rebartechnology.com or email info@rebartechnology.com to schedule a call today.  #Saas #subscriptions #subscriptionbusiness #subscriptionservice

You have a book out there with Robert Skrob, you've got a book with Perry Marshall, how did you go about doing that? How did you go about co-authoring, with people that had a name in a different area? Bob: Well, in that case, it's about relationships. So, you know, Robert Skrob is well known these days. I knew Robert before he was Robert. One of the things I did early in my career, and I should say this, this is another thing I did is I took giant leaps by joining mastermind groups, not just like, hey, let's get together on zoom five days a month, or, you know, this is like, I paid Bill Glazer, at that time, I think it was $12,000 a year, quoting Hamilton, I wanted to be in the room where it happens, right? I was in there with people that were above my pay grade. But the reason I did that was I wanted the mentorship from a guy like Bill Glazer, mentorship from Dan Kennedy. But then I wonder the relationships of people who are doing better than me, and there were some people that were below me. But when you're in a group like that, it just pulls you forward. And so that's where I met a lot of people who I still consider friends and met friends that introduced me to others. By knowing Perry Marshall, I got to meet and become friends with Brian Kurtz. I was in the same mastermind group as Ryan Deiss, before Digital Marketer was even a thought in his eye. I got to know Jeff Walker before he was the Product Launch Formula Genius. So part of it is you you know, there are these names that we all kind of revere, they're just normal people. But I got to know them really, before they became famous, okay. And they're all more famous than me, by the way, which is fine with me. But I really was intentional about joining those organizations, attending conferences and networking, I'm not naturally drawn to do that. Like, I'm really good with talking and sharing what I know I'm not really good at meeting new people, but I've had to force myself to do it. And so writing the check and taking the leap really like makes you go I'm gonna make the most of it. Outro: For full conversations, go to BJP chats.com.

Perry I met through a connection in my mastermind group, a friend of mine also knew Perry. Perry and I live eight miles apart, literally, I can draw a straight line from my house to Perry's. We spend quite a bit of time together, we became friends. You know, a lot of it like yeah, there's gonna be another wave. It's like, there's always new people coming in. So want to be friends with people who are driven, who are successful, that can challenge you that could bring you up, that could kind of pick you up when you're let down. That's another thing that's been really powerful. My career is just establishing relationships with good people. And I've come across people that frankly, were terrible for me. Perry Marshall is my guest today for the second time, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview. He is an a man who Entrepreneur Magazine states, “This guy is the #1 author and world's most-quoted consultant on Google Advertising. But that was years ago, one thing for sure is Perry loves nothing more than to tackle new projects and author new books. In fact the last time he was on the show he was discussing the works of Charles Darwin and how they also applied to business. His newest book, Detox, Declutter, Dominate: How to Excel by Elimination (co-authored with Robert Skrob) reveals how readers can grow their business 4X faster by eliminating 80% of wasted effort.  Step 1: Use renaissance time to gain discernment and clarity. Perry shares how to establish mindfulness habits to maximize your creative and productive space Step 2: Make your business 2x more profitable with 80/20 focus. How to stop “jumping over dollars to get the quarters” and optimize your efficiency! Step 3: Managing your time is all about subtraction, not doing more! Step 3 teaches you how to Earn $1,000 per hour at least one hour per day with 80/20 time. Step 4: Create an irresistible product that's easy to use by simplifying. Learn how to keep it simple for the customer in order to create a product that is valuable and not easily replicable. Step 5: You're not doing yourself any favors by trying to be cheaper and better in a saturated market. The Star Principle reveals why 80% of the profit comes from 20% of companies in the stock market. Use the Star Principle to carve out a niche where you're number one! Step 6: Build an impenetrable moat around your business. Perry shares sure-fire ways to insulate your business from competition. Step 7: There are two kinds of entrepreneurs: business builders and artistic entrepreneurs. If you're an artist but work like a business builder, you will burn out your inner artist. Freedom is a lifestyle choice, and step 7 will show you how to enjoy the freedom to create and reinvent every single day. So how can someone starting in business today bring such clarity into their business and life, when most people simply makes things up as they go a long. And out of the Seven steps, which was the one that he actually thought "you know I could actually be a little bit better at this one myself" Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Perry Marshall.

In this week's The Big Idea Podcast, Brian York and Grant Perry speak with Customer Retention Specialist, Robert Skrob. Robert specializes in subscription retention, living and breathing the customer relationship. When it comes to a subscription-based business, like most of the Agora businesses, a lot of energy and creativity goes into acquiring new leads. However, if a similar focus is not given to maximize customer value after the sale - customers renewing year on year - then all of that frontline hard work amounts to absolutely nothing. So, how do you avoid being on the chopping block of canceled subscriptions and purchase refunds? How do you get that first sale to stick and generate more sales on the back of it? How do you increase your customer value, which will enable you to spend more and give you the edge over your competitors? It all comes down to becoming a master in the art of "dating your customers." And if there is one man who can show you how to turn customer "one night stands" into solid "relationships," it's Robert Skrob.
