Elizabeth Goodfellow; Los Angeles-based drummer, percussionist, vocalist and artist. Beth grew up in Northern California's San Joaquin Valley and started playing drums at age eleven at local harvest festivals. Her first professional drumming job was playing in the Air Force National Guard Band of the West Coast while studying classical percussion performance at San Jose State University. In 2003 she was selected to the IAJE's Sisters in Jazz Quintet which performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival. After working for over a decade in the San Francisco Bay Area music scene, an appearance on America's Got Talent in 2012 and a studio recording job with Swedish singer Per Gessle (Roxette) inspired her to move to Los Angeles to pursue her music career further. Elizabeth has played with the likes of Iron and Wine, boygenius, Better Oblivion Community Center, Allison Russell as well as self produce and record multiple solo records. She joins My Pop Five to break down Wilson Phillips, Pink Elephants on Parade, Sweet Thursday, National Velvet & Music For 18 Musicians. Despite his prolific releases, Kurt Vile has oftentimes been pinned with a slacker reputation. Maybe it's his "chill dude" persona or his wandering ballads, but on Vile's latest album Watch My Moves, the former War On Drugs guitarist proves his music has evolved over the last few years. On the latest episode of Indiecast, hosts Steven Hyden and Ian Cohen share their thoughts about Watch My Moves (35:12), Vile's latest effort since 2018.This week in indie music also saw some great new releases and some Twitter faux pas. The Conor Oberst/Phoebe Bridgers supergroup Better Oblivion Community Center sent a very snarky tweet at musician Kississippi, calling her music "boring" in response to a very mild joke about Oberst's shoes. Steven and Ian discuss the blowback (6:18) and reminisce on times they learned the hard way that everything on the internet is permanent. Indiecast also delves into Built To Spill's latest album When The Wind Forgets Your Name (1:48), the return of 100 Gecs, and wonder if the hyperpop duo sound a little too 2019 at this point (14:07).In this week's Recommendation Corner (48:09), Ian shows love to Prince Daddy & The Hyena, whose self-titled album is out today. Meanwhile, Steven spotlights Wet Tuna's third studio album Warping All By Yourself, which veers into '70s funk and jazz fusion territory.New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space. For her Tiny Desk (home) concert, Phoebe Bridgers chose the White House. OK, maybe it's a green screen, but she and her team created a sweet mock-up of the Oval Office, with Phoebe performing behind a very special desk. It's a far cry from the hotel bed in Austin we first filmed Phoebe on back in 2017, but her ambitions and talent run high. She played the Tiny Desk later that year and returned with newfound bandmates, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, as boygenius one year later. But there was more to come when she surprised us all for a magical collaboration with her musical hero Conor Oberst as Better Oblivion Community Center just six months later. Phoebe and bandmates Marshall Vore on drums and Harrison Whitford on guitar perform three songs from her brilliant new album, Punisher. They open with "Kyoto," a story song based on her first trip to Japan, followed with a sweet version of "Moon Song" and the sad details of loving someone who doesn't love themself. And then comes the kicker, as Phoebe introduces herself with the words "I hope everybody's enjoying their apocalypse," as the band kicks into her surreal doomsday tune "I Know the End." And what an end it is: The trio expands to an ensemble and a crowd-sourced chorus of fans — recording from bedrooms, cars, backyards and trampolines — lets out the kind of cathartic scream that has come to define 2020 for so many of us. Phoebe for President, 2020. I know what you’ve been thinking: can I just talk about one singer-songwriter for a whole twenty minutes? The answer is, unsurprisingly, yes. With a few tangents.
Zweimal tritt Phoebe Bridgers aufs Tempo in Richtung Weltuntergang.

It's the end of 2019 which has been an utterly fantastic year for music (possibly at the expense of everything else...) so as is traditional, here's our annual best of the year extravaganza! We count down our favourite 30 songs of the year, plus we discuss songs that didn't quite make it, our favourite gigs of the year and also music we've discovered this year that didn't come out in 2019. It's basically like Top Of The Pops but with way more music from the former USSR... To explain how the voting works, we each picked our 10 favourite songs of the year, then in secret ranked our own out of 10 and the remaining songs from the other two's selections out of 20 (so the highest possible score would be 50 points if all three of us were unanimous on our favourite song and the lowest possible score would be 3 points). Ian's wife Lydia distributed the lists to each of us and then Colin's wife Helen added all the points up and sealed them in envelopes so we didn't find out the order until we were recording and all the reactions you hear are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three seperate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of the year. Bands featured in this episode include (in alphabetical order, you'll find no spoilers here!) - 1914, American Football, Julien Baker, Better Oblivion Community Center, Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridgers, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Charly Bliss, Cult Of Luna, Czarface Vs Ghostface Killah, Lucy Dacus, Daughter, Disq, Bille Eilish, Mark Eitzel, Ghost, Max Govan, Grebz, Halfsour, Ho99o9, The Interrupters, KAUAN, Laibach, Jenny Lewis, Middle Kids, Mildlife, The Moth Gatherer, Marissa Nadler & Stephen Brodsky, The National, Oh Hiroshima, Opeth, Amanda Palmer, Porridge Radio, Refused, The Regrettes, Emma Ruth Rundle, Saudade, Seazoo, Sigrid, Taylor Swift, Tatarka, Devin Townsend, TOY, Tropical F*ck Storm, The Twilight Sad, Sharon Van Etten, Viagra Boys, Wozniak The spotify playlist for our best of the year list is at https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6sodrbToM7q1ZObdzf4Ubh?si=r8TG81A2QA25e0tyIRwnjA and our songs discovered in 2019 list is at https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3Vs7pPqDoE6J62MRP8cqrF?si=dIRMomoNSPWkZ7bHBFGAcg. as always, we'd love to hear what you think, you can talk to us on www.facebook.com/wedigmusicpcast or on www.twitter.com/wedigmusicpcast . plus you can find all our other episodes and podcasts at www.wedigpodcasts.com. NO ENCORE is back on a two-man vibe with another packed deep dive into the realm of all things music. There's a chat with SOAK as she releases new album Grim Town, thoughts on Kanye's Sunday Service, Dave versus the national broadcaster, and the hotly-anticipated comeback from Vampire Weekend... ACT ONE: Dave talks Avengers: Endgame, gets into a social media ruck, and generally defends the honour of critics. Again. ACT TWO: The boys mull over the news happenings, from David Byrne's job offer to what bands should be avoided for security purposes. ACT THREE: SOAK is back with Grim Town, her excellent sophomore effort. She sits down with Dave to discuss what went into the album's construction, mental health, problematic lyrics, and why her career is something of a happy accident. ACT FOUR: Songs of the Week with FKA twigs, Better Oblivion Community Center, and an all-star team-up in honour of Game of Thrones. ACT FIVE: There's a week to go before Vampire Weekend release Father of the Bride, their first album in six years. But dammit, Dave and Craig can wait no longer... EXIT MUSIC: Le Boom x Æ MAK | 'Dancing Bug'

Singer-songwriters Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers, together known as Better Oblivion Community Center, join Kyle Meredith With... to discuss their debut LP, stage diving, covering "Shallow" from A Star Is Born, and eventually having enough albums for a greatest hits. On the more serious side, the three also talk about how themes of alienation and solitude pain this record, and how they've made each other better musicians. This collaboration between Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers had better be good just to live down the name they've given it, thankfully it is.
Growing up on the outskirts of LA, Phoebe Bridgers never had a specific moment where she decided to become a musician - truth be told, it was second nature. It wasn't long after Bridgers picked up a guitar that she was performing around town to an ever-increasing audience, eventually landing her slots on the road with everyone from Julien Baker to the Violent Femmes. She's been winning hearts and drawing out tears from her audience ever since, not only with her remarkable 2017 debut but also her collaborative EP as a part of Boygenius in 2018. With a brief moment of downtime on her first-ever Australian tour, Bridgers gave a quick guided tour through her musical endeavours, past and present. NB: There is no mention or discussion of the New York Times article Phoebe was quoted in during this podcast. This was recorded the day before the article was published. As punishment for not predicting the future and getting his bets terribly, terribly wrong in the 2018 Betting Special, we get to listen to Mike go slowly mad over the course of this episode while he's forced to listen to two of his least favorite songs from the last five years on a constant loop! No worries to you, the listener; the music loop is edited out to save your sanity. We also catch up on all of the exciting new album announcements that have happened since we've last gotten together. We've got incoming albums from Alexisonfire, New Years Day, Our Last Night, Andy Black, and Silverstein. Bring Me The Horizon announces the cancellation of their current tour due to Oli Sykes' unfortunate vocal injury; we catch up on the 2015 "Twitter beef" between Buddy Neilsen and Chris Fronzak...because it was reignited recently since everyone involved has the mindset of middle-school children apparently. Finally, we share our thoughts on recent albums and recommendations such as 'Peach Club' by Emarosa, 'Phoenix' by Pedro the Lion, the self-titled album from Conor Oberst's Better Oblivion Community Center, 'Rebirth' by The Jon Hill Project, and the debut EP from one of our listeners band, Better On The Inside. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theskinnywithmikeandadam/support

Mixed Up Confusion is our vehicle to discuss the culture that surrounds our weekly conversation about Bob Dylan. This week we open Season 3 by looking back on our two months off, bookended by two shows: Tallest Man on Earth in November and Minus the Bear in their final Portland show in December. We begin with Tallest Man on Earth (3:30)before going to Kelly (15:00) talking "lo-fi hip hop" memes, Bonobo, Little People, and PUP. Daniel (22:30) shouts out the documentary Jazz, '60s playlists, Better Oblivion Community Center; and a few new books. We close with the farewell tour and final Portland show of a band that meant a lot to both of us for over a decade: Minus the Bear (28:00). As always, full show notes at our website. On this edition of All Songs Considered I'm joined by Marissa Lorusso our Tiny Desk Contest leader and also a critical contributor to NPR Music's Turning the Tables project.Marissa plays music from the '90s San Jose trio, Duster. They're getting back together but not before a boxed set of their storied past comes out. Marissa is also a fan of Bellows, the music of Oliver Kalb, who we also know from the band Gabby's World (formerly Eskimeaux and O). And we hear music from Heather Woods Broderick, a songwriter and singer we've featured not only for her own music but for being a stage and studio partner with Sharon Van Etten. I play music from Tiny Desk Contest entrant Jackie Mendoza who performs a stripped-down, more focused remake of the song she submitted to our contest called "De Lejos" about loving from afar. We also hear great trance guitar from a Tuareg musician from the Saharan region. It's a recording he made in Detroit after a chance meeting with a producer who shared his love of ZZ Top's Tres Hombres record. But first, I open the show with my current 2019 favorite album, one that came out as huge surprise just last week, by Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers. They call their project the Better Oblivion Community Center.
