On October 16, Audacy Inc. made a very intriguing move by switching an AM serving Hazleton, Pa., and a FM serving the Scranton-Wilkes Barre area to a Spanish-language format heavy on bachata music popular with Dominicans and Puerto Ricans. Some may wonder why Audacy made the move, as Northeast Pennsylvania isn't known as a Latino hotbed among Hispanic marketing and advertising pros. Perhaps Ryan Flynn, SVP/Market Manager for Audacy in Wilkes Barre-Scranton, knows better. He's a lifelong resident of the region, and shares the launch of “La Mega 102.3 FM” with RBR+TVBR Editor-in-Chief Adam R Jacobson in this InFOCUS Podcast, presented by dot.FM.
The Muchachos are all about the Youth Movement, which is a long time coming. Everson Periera and Oswald Peraza have been called up and it's been a long time coming. They will be playing as regulars and it's their time to shine. In addition to the moves to the big club, The Martían as landed in Scranton Wilkes-Barre, after a scorching month and a half. Hopefully this means he has a legit shot at making the big club out of spring training. Hopefully this youth movement is better than the previous Baby bombers. #BronxMuchachosPodcast #OswaldPeraza #JassonDominguez #EvereonPereira #RepBx #yankees #yankeespride #yankeesnation #bronxbombers #losdelbronx #newyork #bronx #mlb #yankeesbaseball #yankeesuniverse #pinstripepride #yankeesbeisbol Bronx Muchachos Linktree: https://linktr.ee/realbronxmuchachos Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Program https://swa.eyjo.net/jW3qzP Bronx Muchachos Merchandise Store: https://bronx-muchachos-merch.printify.me/products LIDS: https://lids.7q8j.net/oe3aMe Use the Promo Code of the day for instant savings. On the latest episode of From The Back Fields to The Bronx, Ricky Keeler is joined by Tampa Tarpons beat writer John Brophy to talk about the first full week of the 2022 season for all four of the New York Yankees full-season affiliates. First up, John talks about the Tarpons having success on the mound with their pitching and he discusses what has stood out to him about the way Rachel Balkovec manages the Tarpons and connects with her players. Then, he discusses the improvements he is seeing in Anthony Garcia's plate discipline after conducting an interview with him earlier this week. When the conversation shifts to Somerset, Ricky and John talk about whether or not to be concerned about Anthony Volpe's slow start, the talent the rotation has led by Ken Waldichuk, and the team's high strikeout totals to begin the year. Scranton Wilkes-Barre had a rough week in Norfolk and Ricky thinks there should be some concern with the way Luis Gil and Deivi Garcia have struggled to begin the year. Finally, the duo looks at Hudson Valley's lineup and how even without Trey Sweeney at the moment, the Renegades may have the deepest lineup in the system. After talking about their position groups to watch this year, Ricky and John talk about the pitch clock that has helped decrease how long the games are going and whether or not it is a good or bad thing for the sport.

And it’s partly because I’m really liking some of the stuff I come up with. There’s this thing I’ve been alluding to here and there called the Lazy Cello Suite, which isn’t an entirely original work but I think it’s safe to call it a remix. I basically took the chord changes of the Bach G Major cello suite and made my own notes, played in the way I like to play. It’s lazy-sounding in a good way, a way that doesn’t make you work too hard as a listener. I’m going to make a recording of it soon on my porch and put that out on Bandcamp.I’m also working on some production prototypes for an album which is moving forward. I’m working with last week’s guest, Daniel Wright. It’s still in a very early stage but the energetic read is good on the thing, so stay tuned for more on both of those projects as they develop.Today I’m happy to share my conversation with Mark Marshall. He’s a great guitarist, and very much a connoisseur of guitar tone. In fact, he has an entire website dedicated to the Anatomy of Guitar Tone, which you can find at anatomyofguitartone.com. But he’s much more than a mere gearhead. I’ve worked with him as a producer and in bands, I’ve also admired his work on stage for many years. He’s got that certain presence, one of total focus where you can just tell he’s taking exquisite care with his sounds, and we the listeners benefit tremendously. He’s not just a local cat. He’s logged tens of thousands of miles on the road with the likes of Amy Helm and Sister Sparrow. He collaborates with his wife Abby Ahmad in a great rock/blues band called Fife & Drom, and he’s got his own power guitar trio with Adam Minkoff and Tony Leone called Future Relics. We hear about what it was like growing up in rural Pennsylvania near Scranton / Wilkes-Barre. Mark had to take a long journey through darkness into the light, navigating issues with an overbearing collaborator who also happened to be his father. The man had to move mountains to get to where he is today, and just before the Pandemic hit he was hitting the gas on his composition work, so we’ll get a taste of that as well.Once again, if you like the show and you think it deserves a wider audience, do us a solid and share the link with a friend:Or better yet: listen to the Playlist we just started with all the guests and pass that around too. The successes of Gio Urshela and Mike Tauchman -- essentially as replacements for Miguel Andujar and Giancarlo Stanton -- are not ones the Yankees could have predicted. But as an organization, they are very confident in the process that brings players like that to the big-league level, from scouting them to coaching them and making them viable options to contribute to a team with high expectations. One of the coaches who has had an impact on both those players and more is Scranton/Wilkes-Barre hitting coach Phil Plantier. A veteran of eight major league seasons, Plantier is in his second year with the Yankees' Triple-A team. This week on a new “30 With Murti” podcast, Plantier talks about hitting approach and the things that have made Urshela and Tauchman successful, as well as the things that he’s seen from Clint Frazier since he’s been back at Triple-A.

Up Close And On Fire With S And K Ep 18 Jackson Vee and Danny Vash By Spitfire and CJ M. Jackson Vee is a bit of an institution around the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area. Rarely a week goes by in the area where he isn’t at some velue with his acoustic guitar, putting on a one-man show where he’ll mix a seemingly random set list of covers and originals in near-marathon sets. The producer of our podcast, upon learning of Jackson’s being the featured artist of the week, recalled seeing him open for a newer national artist at a local terrestrial rock radio station’s secret acoustic gig, where he did a shortened half-hour version of the kind of sets he was already doing. When the next act needed a few extra minutes to get themselves together, Jackson filled in the time by doing a quick game of “stump the singer” with the audience, proceeded to come off with every suggestion thrown his way, from a quick (and note-perfect) snippet of Cher’s “Believe” to a then-ubiquitous TV advertising jingle (complete with the quickly mumbled disclaimer at the end of said commercial!). Jackson’s album “Sigrad’s Theory” is not an all-acoustic affair, however – Jackson instead does a primarily electric-guitar-heavy modern rock approach for his all-original long playing affair, showing off the songwriting talents that he had been developing since his school days as well as the multi-instrumental chops he refined while he studied music in college. Featured songs: “Hide And Seek”, “Bury Yesterday”, “EnVy”. “Believe”. Danny Vash and Nite Wolf are a three-piece power trio from the Albuquerque New Mexico in the south-west United States. Their hard-hitting sound is a combination of Danny Vash on lead guitar and vocals, Bill Weber on drums and Mike Alberts on bass. Together they grind out crunchy riffs, complex melodies and songs with a classic hard rock sound. Danny Vash writes all music and lyrics. Their First album “TAKIN’ CONTROL” was recorded and produced by Danny Vash and Mike Alberts at their studio in the Sandia mountains of New Mexico. In Episode 8, we chat with singer, songwriter, and mandolinist JP Biondo, who is both a solo artist and a member of Cabinet, the popular Scranton/Wilkes-Barre jamgrass band hosting the fifth annual Susquehanna Breakdown Music Festival at The Pavilion at Montage Mountain in Scranton on Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20. We talk about whether or not he would define Cabinet’s music as “bluegrass” and how that type of music came out of NEPA, his personal musical influences and how they play a role in the band, jamming and improvisation, keeping the band together despite being spread out across several states, recording their new album “Cool River” in Vermont with Phish engineer Ben Collette, taking musical risks and not worrying what others may think, letting fans record shows and releasing them for free online, his solo work and recording locally at the Windmill Agency, a song written by his mother, the importance of family in his own life and in the band and their special relationship with fans, playing Montage Mountain and what that means to local musicians, how the Susquehanna Breakdown began and has grown over the years, a touching moment at last year’s Breakdown, what’s in store for this year, and more. Instead of The Last Word segment, we spent more time in this episode answering both funny and serious fan questions during the live stream, considering how important the “CabFam” is to the group. JP also opens the show with an acoustic version of Cabinet’s latest single, “Bottom of the Sea,” and closes with one of their classic songs, “The Tower.” The NEPA Scene Podcast covers arts, entertainment, and the issues that matter to Northeastern Pennsylvania. In Episode 6, we sit down with Beyond Fallen vocalist Joe Karavis and Threatpoint guitarist Alex Olivetti, who are both playing in the two-day NEPA Metal Meltdown festival at the Irish Wolf Pub in Scranton on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6. We discuss how their respective bands formed in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton; their very different writing and recording processes; touring in the U.S. and overseas and how they compare; the challenges of being an independent band and getting people to come to shows; the local metal scene and growing up on metal music; the science fiction concept and cover art of Beyond Fallen’s upcoming album, “As the Spires Fall;” musical influences; what went into Threatpoint’s latest album, “RIP;” the messages they’re trying to convey through their music; Beyond Fallen’s CD release show at the Irish Wolf Pub on Friday, May 19; and the planning, work, bands, and venue changes behind the fourth annual NEPA Metal Meltdown and what the future of this indie metal festival will be. We also answer some questions and comments from live viewers. In The Last Word segment, we talk about two sad stories we reported lately - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre bluegrass band Cabinet parting ways with their original drummer and the singer of Wilkes-Barre “grave rock” band Curse of Sorrow losing his home in a fire - and explain why we felt they were worth covering, the ethics of covering such topics, and how to tastefully write stories that are sensitive and fair to everyone involved. We continued our Scranton/Wilkes-Barre interview tour, by talking with the man in charge of the Backyard Wiffleball Leauge, Kevin Sickle. The BWBL has been around for years, and Kevin's name has quickly become a big one in the wiffle community. Before the interview, the Dudes broke down the 16 NWLA Tournament teams they think will go to Ohio. Even though the rosters are not out, and they know just about nothing in regards to many teams. So don't take them too serious!
The Dudes interviewed Beau Reznak, one of the many big names in the surging Scranton/Wilkes-Barre wiffle region. Beau is commissioner of the Susquehanna River League, and has played in the last two NWLA Tournaments with Hotel Sterling. Before talking with Beau, Josh and Carl talked about the rising popularity of slow-pitch wiffleball, and why they believe more leagues are moving away from fast-pitch.
In Episode 54, Rich talks about the third annual NEPA Metal Meltdown in Pittston with festival co-founder Steve Jasuilewicz, who is also the guitarist for Wilkes-Barre heavy metal band Beyond Fallen, and vocalist Jane Threat and guitarist “Metal” Alan Rowsdower of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre metal/crust punk group SpaceJunk. They discuss getting into metal music, what the local metal scene is like, the difficulties Steve ran into while putting together the 2016 festival, the small number of venues left in the area that will host metal shows, why it’s difficult to bring mid-sized acts into the area, Beyond Fallen’s upcoming album, creating original music out of passion rather than money, old school promotion versus social media, seeing past musical genres, the recent incident when Disturbed called out a fan for being on her phone during their show, how metal became more mainstream, band recommendations, and what’s in store for Metal Meltdown this year. In The Last Word segment, we talk about Bruce Springsteen’s decision to cancel his concert in North Carolina because of its discriminatory transgender bathroom law and respond to some “tough guy” Facebook commenters who took issue when NEPA Scene shared his statement on our wall. NEPA Metal Meltdown is this Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16 at Diane's Deli & Internet Cafe (206 S. Main St., Pittston) and features performances by SpaceJunk, Earthmouth, Suicide Conspiracy, Corners of Sanctuary, Assayer, Beyond Fallen, Dying Eyes of Sloth, Ember’s Fall, Psychoprism, Toothless, and Shallow Ground. We talk about how he got into music at an early age; moving from bass to guitar and singing; the influence and support of his father, who is also a musician; his first time recording in a professional studio and how it compares to recording on his own; performing every weekend to support himself and pay for his studio time; writing music for this project as well as his full band, Emberá; being a vegetarian; getting people to pay for music; the subconscious influence of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre sound; getting a concussion at the NEPA Holiday Show and having Bobby Barnett of Captain, We’re Sinking as a teacher; being a part of and meeting new people at NEPA Scene’s Got Talent; and his upcoming free CD release show at Adezzo in downtown Scranton on Saturday, March 19 with Better Days, Wishing Well (Toni Pennello of Spur), and Ed Cuozzo. In The Last Word segment, we talk about NEPA Scene’s article on a recent study by the Southern Poverty Law Center that found that Pennsylvania has the fifth largest number of hate groups in the United States, as well as the highest number of anti-government groups. He read a wide range of reader comments and reactions to the story and explain why we feel it’s important to cover issues like these.
