Marty opens Episode 1o with an update on the Season 5 Funding drive, now at over 25% of the $5600 goal. Every donor gets a copy of Retropeg, and you'll hear some background about it and the collection of black and white photographs taken in the 1970's by the late James Donahue. Then, it's a Crime Courts and Public Safety update! 7.00 Part 2- Last July we spoke about the rise of "ganglets"- a term created by Sel Burrows to describe armed underage marauders terrorizing our streets. A year later 5 boys made the news, although only 4 were old enough to be charged. A 9 year old took part in a break-in and theft from a retailer before helping set fire to a gazebo in the West End, but will face no consequences. The others, all under 15, were released to a single adult. What did they have in common? Very likely, a file with the Families Department of Nahanni Fontaine. 11.35 - Mayor Scott Gillingham put his foot down and lectured social service agencies to stand down at homeless encampments and other scenes when the cops and fire department shows up. As it turns out, the ideologies encouraging the homeless to stay in their riverbank tents as we reported last month got a little too big for their britches. We explain why City Councilors should heed the advice of Marion Willis of Street Links: "It takes a little bit of tough love sometimes to move people out of their circumstances and into a better place. If all we're ever going to do is hand out granola bars, coffee, blankets and harm reduction, we're not really moving people forward." 17.30 - For over 15 years we've reported on the scourge of derelict housing. Winnipeg's policies still fail to get the number down under 500 and the city is getting more aggressive. But we've also seen so many screw-ups by City Hall, it makes us wonder if it is in fact possible that one landlord- now disabled- never did get any bills for overdue inspections and fines from the City before they sued her. 21.00 - As winter faded away the heated pro-Hamas marches in Winnipeg have toned down a bit, but antisemites hiding behind "Anti-Zionism" continue their campaign of harassment. You'll hear about a Fringe performer targeted for a boycott; then a recap of the very vile insults tossed around by the Professional Association of Residents and Interns of Manitoba (PARIM) board of directors in a chatroom. “It does appear to be right out of a Nazi playbook" said a local businessman who called for their ouster. 26.30 - An upcoming fall event is being co-sponsored by the City of Winnipeg and a council member, touting a DEI-based event called "Equitable Cities: How to liberate those caged by our transportation system". Insofar as the headline performer is a professor from a US campus that has been investigated for tolerating Jew-hate, taxpayers have a right to expect his background will be properly screened to ensure council isn't importing a speaker spreading antisemitic tropes in the cause of "equity". 29.50 Part 3- A look at what's coming up: more fake public consultation in St. Boniface, an interview with (now ex-EPC member) Coun. Brian Mayes of St. Vital, and your feedback on the podcasts and Winnipeg Sun columns! FOR LINKS TO POPULAR EPISODES & WINNIPEG SUN COLUMNS, AND TO DONATE TO COVER SEASON 5 COSTS - CLICK HERE. ****** It's Summer time and that means more interviews, more street-level reporting, and more columns acting as YOUR VOICE in the Winnipeg Sun. If you see red holes in the sky, don't panic. When SpaceX rockets re-enter the Earth's atmosphere, they create temporary holes in the ionosphere, leading to glowing red circles of light. These holes form because the rocket's engine burns release exhaust gases like water and carbon dioxide at high altitudes. This process causes ionized oxygen atoms to turn back into gas molecules, which emit a red glow, creating a brief but bright aurora. These holes in the ionosphere usually close up within 10 to 20 minutes as the molecules re-ionize. Marcus Aurelius called it a few different things. His translators varied even more in their interpretations. Gregory Hays used the word “imperialization.” Robin Waterfield called it “becoming Caesarified” and “dyed in purple.” Pierre Hadot has it, “becoming Caesarized.” George Long translates it, “Take care that thou art not made into a Caesar, that thou art not dyed with this dye.” In The Daily Stoic, we have Marcus express his worry of being “stained purple.”Ok, but what is he actually talking about? He's talking about being corrupted by power, changed by the position and fame that he has. And we know this was a lifelong concern of his. One story has Marcus Aurelius breaking down in tears when he's told he will someday be emperor, not because he was sad, but because his study of history taught him how few people managed to leave the job unscathed, let alone unchanged. While none of us will wear the purple cloak of the emperor (that's what Marcus was referring to about being dyed), hopefully, we will be successful. Hopefully, we will earn positions of influence and power and respect. What will this reveal about us? What might it corrupt or corrode? It is a timeless battle, a timeless temptation. Stoicism is here to help us with it. Winter can be a challenging time, especially for those with autoimmunity like Hashimoto's. The usual advice for boosting immunity may not apply, and some commonly recommended supplements can even trigger flare-ups. In this episode, I'm sharing the essential strategies to stay healthy this winter without causing a Hashimoto's flare-up. Staying Updated on Immune Protocols Staying abreast of the latest immune protocols is crucial. In this episode, I'll share my most recent Hashimoto's-safe immune protocols, incorporating the newest research and insights to help you navigate the winter season with confidence. Tailored Advice for Autoimmunity Generic immune-boosting advice may not be suitable for those with Hashimoto's or other autoimmune conditions. Understanding the nuances of your overactive immune system is key. In this episode, I explain more in-depth why following standard recommendations can potentially exacerbate your condition and explore a more personalized approach. Cautionary Note: Immune-Boosting Supplements to Steer Clear of with Hashimoto's Standard recommendations, such as Echinacea, Astragalus, Reishi, and Elderberry, can potentially trigger adverse reactions for those with autoimmunity. These supplements, often included in various immune formulations, may inadvertently stimulate an already overactive immune system, leading to potential flare-ups. To ensure your wellness regimen is tailored to your specific needs, it's advisable to avoid these immune-boosting herbs and supplements. Always scrutinize product labels to confirm their absence in the formulations you're considering, as even seemingly benign formulations may contain these ingredients. Choosing the Right Supplements The good news is that not all immune-boosting supplements are off-limits! After years of finding answers for myself and my Hashimoto's and immune-compromised clients, I've carefully curated a list of safer options, including: Vitamin C: An often-overlooked powerhouse for immune support. Vitamin D: Essential for winter, with dosage recommendations based on individual needs. Zinc + Quercetin: A dynamic duo for prevention and healing, with a crucial tip on maintaining mineral balance. Garlic: A potent, quick-acting option with guidelines on when and how to use it. Liposomal Glutathione: An immune balancer and antioxidant to help support your body's defenses. Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators (SPM): Aids in taming inflammation and balancing the immune system. Bonus Protocol for Optimal Winter Recovery For those seeking a detailed roadmap to navigate through illness and help prevent Hashimoto's flare-ups, here's an exclusive bonus protocol designed to be followed for 7-10 days or until you experience improvement *please be sure to always check with your medical doctor before starting any new protocol*: Vitamin C (5000-6000mg per day): Administer in divided doses, whether you prefer the effervescent delight of C+BioFizz dissolved in water or the convenience of capsules like Stellar C. If you encounter loose stools, consider the refrigerated Liposomal Vitamin C, aiding absorption through mucous membranes. Vitamin D Supreme (10,000 IU per day): Vital during winter, adjust the dosage based on individual needs. For those with difficulty absorbing vitamin D, alternatives like Emulsi D3 Synergy or Hi Po Emulsi D are recommended. Zinc (1 capsule twice per day): Integrate zinc into your daily routine with meals, supporting immune function. Quercetin and Nettles (3 capsules twice per day): Enhance zinc's efficacy by facilitating its entry into cells, aiding in virus deactivation. Take with any meals for optimal absorption. Allimax (3 capsules twice per day): Leverage the power of this patented allicin extract with high potency, odorless and effective against bacteria, yeasts, and other pathogens. Use when symptomatic, exposed to illness, or feeling under the weather. SPM Supreme (3 gel caps twice per day): Optimize your immune response by balancing inflammation. This higher dose is particularly beneficial during illness, reducing the risk of post-viral complications and autoimmune flares. Therasomal Glutathione (4 pumps morning and night): Support your immune system's equilibrium and ward off post-viral complications. This regimen, especially beneficial for those with Hashimoto's, helps prevent viral-mediated autoimmune flare-ups. When I am feeling sick, I use this protocol for 7-10 days. Not only can it potentially reduce the duration of illness, but it can also serve as a preventive measure against Hashimoto's flare-ups. Your health is a priority, and this personalized approach aims to guide you through a winter recovery with resilience and vitality. Plan Ahead:Take the time to plan the date in advance. Consider your date's interests and preferences and choose an activity or location that aligns with their likes. Thoughtful planning demonstrates your consideration and sets the stage for a memorable experience.2. Be Punctual:Punctuality is a mark of respect and reliability. Arriving on time or even a few minutes early communicates your commitment to the date and sets a positive tone from the outset.3. Engage in Meaningful Conversation:Initiate and maintain engaging, meaningful conversation throughout the date. Ask open-ended questions, actively listen, and express genuine interest in learning about your date. This demonstrates your attentiveness and genuine desire to get to know them.4. Show Authenticity:Be yourself and let your personality shine. Authenticity is attractive and will foster a genuine connection. Avoid putting on a façade or trying to be someone you're not, as this can hinder the development of a real connection.5. Display Respect and Courtesy:Displaying respect and courtesy is paramount. Small gestures such as holding the door open, offering your coat if it's cold, or expressing gratitude for the date can leave a lasting positive impression. The Don'ts of the First Date:1. Avoid Distractions:In today's digital age, it's crucial to minimize distractions. Refrain from checking your phone, scrolling through social media, or allowing other interruptions to detract from the quality time you're sharing with your date.2. Steer Clear of Controversial Topics:While meaningful conversation is encouraged, it's wise to avoid sensitive or controversial topics on the first date. Stay clear of polarizing subjects such as politics, religion, or ex-relationships, as these can create unnecessary tension and hinder the enjoyment of the date.3. Don't Dominate the Conversation:While it's important to engage in conversation, it's equally crucial to allow your date to share their thoughts and stories. Avoid dominating the conversation or turning the date into a monologue about yourself. Balance is key to fostering a mutual connection.4. Refrain from Overindulgence:Whether it's alcohol, food, or any other indulgence, moderation is key. Overindulging can lead to a loss of control and inhibit the natural flow of the date.
