There's a deadly fungus among us! Alexis Hejna from Honeysuckle Rose Creations hosts a roundtable look the second season of the hit TV series based off the hit video game (and its sequel), joined by Jesse Starcher and Jayson Teasely. Let's take a look at this story of vengeance, love, and mushrooms. The second season of the American post-apocalyptic drama television series The Last of Us was originally broadcast on HBO between April and May 2025. Based on the video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog, the season is set twenty-five years into a pandemic caused by a mass fungal infection, which causes its hosts to transform into zombie-like creatures and collapses society. The second season, based on the first half of the 2020 game The Last of Us Part II, follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) five years after the events of the first season, after they have settled into Jackson, Wyoming, with Joel's brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna) and Ellie's friends Dina (Isabela Merced) and Jesse (Young Mazino).HBO renewed The Last of Us for a second season less than two weeks after the series premiered in January 2023. Co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann were joined in the writers' room by Halley Gross and Bo Shim; Druckmann wrote and co-directed the games, and Gross co-wrote Part II. Principal photography took place in British Columbia from February to August 2024. Druckmann, Mazin, and Peter Hoar returned to direct the seven episodes alongside newcomers Kate Herron, Nina Lopez-Corrado, Mark Mylod, and Stephen Williams. Gustavo Santaolalla and David Fleming returned to compose the score.Critics felt the season reinforced The Last of Us as the best video game adaptation, praising the action sequences, direction, performances, production design, and writing, though some criticized the pacing and considered the story incomplete. It was nominated for several awards. Across linear channels and Max, the season premiere was watched by 5.3 million viewers on the first day, a 13% increase from the first-season premiere; by May, the series averaged almost 37 million global viewers per episode.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

The question of when it is time to let go of a dream haunts most creatives at one time or another. Living out our sense of fidelity to a creative vision shifts and changes over time, just as the demands of life shift and change over time. But finding a way forward can be challenging, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Film producer Thomas Torrey has tackled this question in his recent musical drama Long December. Thomas Torrey is a writer/director/producer based in the Southeast. His production company, Bad Theology, has produced three feature films, including the 2017 ride-share thriller FARE, which the Los Angeles Times called “stunning” and Bloody Flicks named as one of the Ten Best Films of the Year; the 2020 mind-bender MINOR PREMISE, which Forbes called “one of the best sci-fi thrillers of the past decade”; and the newly released musical drama LONG DECEMBER, winner of the 2024 One In A Million Award at the Sun Valley Film Festival. Thomas continues to produce films under Bad Theology and also founded a company called Protagonist, with a mission to help entrepreneurs and business leaders communicate and craft their stories through documentaries and social media content. You can follow Long December @longdecember.movie, Bad Theology @badtheology, and Protagonist @protagonist.company. I caught up with Thomas in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, to discuss the new film and the creative process behind its making. Many of our listeners will be familiar with several members of the cast, including long-time friends of the podcast, John Mark McMillan and Stephen Williams of Jude Moses. Welcome back to a brand-new Season Seven of Post Growth Australia Podcast! As our world teeters on the edge of an increasingly perilous environmental future—extending beyond climate change—we must ask: what does true sustainability entail? How far are we from it, what are the root causes of our current trajectory, and what paths could lead us there? Rod Taylor (author, columnist, radio host) asks these very questions to eleven esteemed Australian scientists and thinkers in a brand-new radio documentary. PGAP is proud to be the first platform to share this thought-provoking documentary, which explores ecological economics, planned Degrowth and Modern Monetary Theory. Rod Taylor is author of “Ten Journeys on a Fragile Planet (https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/scienceshow/ten-journeys-on-a-fragile-planet/13173096)”, co-author with Mark Diesendorf of “The Path to a Sustainable Civilisation (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-981-99-0663-5)” and co-editor with Stephen Williams, of the groundbreaking book, “Sustainability and the New Economics (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-030-78795-0)”. Rod is also host of the ‘Fuzzy Logic Science Show (https://fuzzylogicon2xx.podbean.com/).” Rod was a previous guest on PGAP (Fuzzy Logic on a Fragile Planet with Rod Taylor (https://pgap.fireside.fm/rodtaylor)). Stephen Williams and Mark Disendorf were also past guests on PGAP. You can listen to their episodes HERE (https://pgap.fireside.fm/stevewilliams) and HERE (https://pgap.fireside.fm/pathsustainableciv). The impressive list of guests on the documentary ‘Rethinking Sustainability' include (in order of appearance): • Prof David Lindenmayer • Prof Will Steffen • Prof Clive Hamilton • Dr Kerryn Higgs • Prof Philip Lawn • Dr Mark Diesendorf • Prof Steve Keen • Ian Dunlop • Prof Steven Hail • High Court Justice Michael Kirby • Prof Ian Lowe Last but not least, a shout out to environmental scientist David Tiller, who provided production assistance in the making of this documentary. This episode of PGAP was produced just before the disastrous election results in the USA. As such your co-hosts Michael Bayliss (https://michaelbayliss.org/) and Mark Allen come across as merely VERY pessimistic at the state of the world, instead of EXTREMELY. Stay tuned for our upcoming episode, where we'll address these events in more depth and discuss the underlying systemic issues that shape our society. In the meantime, you can explore these ideas further through Mark's Holistic Activism (https://holisticactivism.net/)movement. Now more than ever, it is important that progressive podcasts are supported, as some panacea to the extreme right leaning media that are dominating the airwaves. Please consider supporting PGAP by sharing this and other episodes with your networks, leaving a review on Apple Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/post-growth-australia-podcast/id1522194099) and contacting us (https://pgap.fireside.fm/contact) with your thoughts and feedback. There's a new “melancholy Christmas musical” to add to your list of indie film favorites, and when we had a chance to see an advance screening, we immediately knew that this story was YOUR kind of story. A hard-working, veteran singer-songwriter is trying to make it through to the end of another long year, wondering if it is time to lay down the dream. Boy does this one strike close to home.   Long December marks the acting debut of Stephen Williams of the band Jude Moses and sideman for the John Mark McMillan band. (McMillan also has a very convincing role in the film.) The film co-stars Charley Koontz (“Community,” “The Boys”), Emily Althaus (“Orange is the New Black,” “Handmaid's Tale”), and Maximiliano Hernandez (“Avengers: Endgame,” “Sicario”). The soundtrack is available on all streaming platforms right now, and the film premiers on VOD platforms on November 12th.   Join JJT as he sits down with writer/director Thomas Torrey to hear about the origin of the story, the music, and the production.

There's been a flurry of casting news surrounding Marvel Studios movie Thunderbolts this week. Top Gun: Maverick and Lessons in Chemistry star Lewis Pullman has an offer to replace Steven Yuen as Sentry after Yuen exited the project due to scheduling issues. Additionally, Geraldine Viswanathan is set to join the film replacing Ayo Edebiri, who is also departing the project due to her schedule. It is also said that audiences can expect to see Rachel Weisz and Laurence Fishbourne in the project portraying their respective MCU characters Melina Vostokoff and Bill Foster. Our pal James Gunn didn't leave us hanging this week with his announcement that Milly Alcock was cast as Supergirl. Alcock is best known for playing young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen on HBO's House of the Dragon, part of the Game of Thrones universe.  The Last of Us has secured their directing talent for season two and it's chock-full of award winners. Mark Mylod, who just won an Emmy for his work on the final season of HBO's Succession; Kate Herron, who directed the first season of the Marvel Studios series Loki; Stephen Williams, nominated for an Emmy for directing on HBO's Watchmen; and Nina Lopez-Corrado, nominated for an Imagen award for directing on season two of HBO's Perry Mason. Will Mom and Dad ever stop fighting? And by Mom and Dad of course we mean…Marvel and Sony. The studio giants are reportedly unable to see eye-to-eye about the direction Tom Holland's Spider-Man should go in a fourth Spider-man film. Sony is understandably trying to boost their Sonyverse with a crossover event that would include Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men, but Marvel sees things differently. Marvel desires that Holland's Spider-Man continues with a more grounded approach that is intuitive to the character. Multiple Spider-Man appearances were scrapped from the upcoming Madame Web movie that Sony is putting out. Christopher Nolan's film Tenet will be rereleased in IMAX theaters from February 23 to March 1. The first trailer for the upcoming remake of the 1989 classic film Road House starring Jake Gyllenhaal has been released. The film will debut on March 21. Tom Hollander, a British actor known for performances in Pride & Prejudice, the Pirates of the Caribbean films, The White Lotus, and The Night Manager, spoke on a recent appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers about a time he was mistakenly sent a box office bonus check meant for Tom Holland for his appearance in Avengers films. Hollander said "“It was an astonishing amount of money. It was not his salary. It was his first box-office bonus. Not the whole box-office bonus, the first one. And it was more money than I'd ever [seen]. It was a seven-figure sum.” A four-issue limited comic series called Darth Vader - Black White & Red will be on sale starting April 25. Colman Domingo will be starring as the legendary singer Nat King Cole in a movie musical from a script he co-wrote, Variety learned exclusively. He will also be making his feature directing debut on the project. After a year-long search for Trevor Noah's replacement on The Daily Show, former longtime host Jon Stewart has agreed to return to host the program. Stewart will appear weekly throughout the 2024 US Presidential election. While speaking to ComicBook.com about her Paramount+ series Special Ops: Lioness, Zoe Saldana said she would be willing to play more superhero roles as long as they didn't require the extensive makeup process used to create her MCU character of Gamora. "If it never gets to happen, or if it happens with other filmmakers, and not James Gunn, or if it happens again with James Gunn, I would be so grateful." Later this year, Marvel Comics will apply their What If...? concept to the Alien franchise. A five-issue run will be released, following the character Carter Burke and what happened after.
