I'm joined by Bobby Hazzard and John Hudson for our long-delayed discussion of STUNT ROCK (1978). Is it a movie with an actual narrative or is it an episodic mockumentary about stunts and rock & roll? And why is there a stage magic act happening at the same time? We go from the ‘shower thoughts' genesis of the film all the way through a listing of our favorite moments. Since the film's director has called it the worst film he ever made, we briefly talk about his other work for contrast and lament his inability to ever secure a big budget Hollywood project. But we also discover that he directed an almost completely hidden third sequel to a very popular 80's teen comedy that none of us were aware existed. Some things might be better left unexplored.  STUNT ROCK can be called many things but it can't be called boring. It feels like two different movies clumsily mashed together forcing each viewer to decide which half they prefer. Is it the hard rocking magic stage show of Los Angeles band Sorcery or watching Australian stuntman Grant Page defy death in about two dozen different ways? I know which way I lean but this movie is a bit of a Rorschach test so you end up seeing what your expectations lead you to see. And that is more philosophy than I ever thought I would attribute to STUNT ROCK. It has to be a mistake. But you should check it out for yourself.  If you have any comments or suggestions thebloodypit@gmail.com is the place to send them. Thank you for listening and we'll be back soon.

John Hudson and Bobby Hazzard return for a roundtable discussion of THE CANDY SNATCHERS (1973).   Typical of exploitation cinema of the 1970's this is a grimy, mean-spirited tale of crime and consequences. The story follows a trio of not-quite-as-smart-as-they-think low lives as they kidnap a jewelry store manger's daughter. Expecting an easily scored diamond ransom their scheme goes sour and, when they start trying to turn their busted plan into a success, things get quickly worse. The sweat, fear and desperation combine to make for a tense, uncomfortable film experience with an ending that stamps this as one of the darkest American films of the period. I once thought of this as a one-time watch but my opinion has changed.   We briefly discuss the terrible crime that inspired the film and how the long-term details point out the folly of most criminal activity. We talk about the cast and crew with some fantastic information from the two main female actors. Writer/director Guerdon Trueblood is also on the record about the entire history of the production and we share a few of his amusing tales as we go along. Bobby expresses his dislike of the reoccurring theme tune and neither John or I can really disagree with his assessment. Of course, that means you get to hear it as part of the show. Sorry.   If you have any comments or suggestions or comments thebloodypit@gmail.com is the place to write. We'll be back to cover STUNT ROCK eventually. We end the show with a new song from Chagall Guevara. Thank you for listening!

We head to Australia for a couple of VERY fun stuntman-focused films that both star the magnetic and truly daring Grant Page and both are directed by show-favorite Brian Trenchard-Smith. We start off with 1976's Death Cheaters which co-stars John Hargreaves as Page's partner who are recruited to help the government deal with a group of bad guys by using their stunt-focused skills. It is a blast and has some incredible stunt segments but is also really well written and paced. We follow that up with Stunt Rock from 1978 which has Page coming to America to help the band Sorcery with their live stage shows. It's full of the band's live performances and plenty of amazing stunts. We recommend both! We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. Hey there! What do Australian stuntmen, New York cinephiles, and Old West Vampire Slugs have in common? If you answered "they're who hosts this podcast every week", well - that's not only incorrect, it's rude. But we WILL be talking about them this week in our reviews! Together with Zach! From the Shuffle.Repeat Podcast! Up first! It's 1978's Stunt Rock, the first and only movie whose entire scope of ambition was limited to combining a type of music with a type of previously-filmed footage! But given that the mostly pre-recorded footage stars Australian stuntmaster Grant Page, and the music is from none-other-than Rocktober Blood's very own backing band (Sorcery! the band with the magic tricks!), and the director is Brian "Leprechaun in Space" Trenchard-Smith, whether or not the normal rules of film criticism even apply is perhaps up for debate. Rock along with us as we discuss our favorite death-defying manuevers and whether or not this Sorcery band is any better than KISS. Next up! There's only ONE documentary we know of that chronicles in extensive detail the filmgoing habits of the people who annoy Mark Freado the most. And based on that alone, we knew we had to see it, no matter what kind of subway gymnastics might be required. We're gabbing of course about Cinemania, from 2002. It follows a group of obsessed movie goers as they obsessively go to the movies. But what do they think of Attack of the Crab Monsters? Finally! Of course, it's 2008's The Burrowers - a weird western with even weirder creatures. And we're not even talking Mapothers here. But it does have Mapothers (buyer beware). If you like toothy molemen, though, you'll be hyped. All this plus just walkin' the dog (wink wink), a drive-in theatrical attendance report (feat. kevin), the limitations of the boob scale, problematic pokemons, donut shop tourism, Bowman is gonzo for Belmondo, an earnest appreciation for stuntsmen, cine-musical fantasias, identifying with outcasts, a very special raver, theoretical vampire freadoing, the time we screwed over Shelby revisited, nerd news and even more! Recorded live-to-tape on National Airplane Crop Duster Day, 2021!! Direct Donloyd HereGot a movie suggestion for the show, or better yet an opinion on next week's movies? This week I'm joined by Brandon Hardy from the Varicon Video podcast to chat about The Man From Hong Kong. Directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith in 1975, this film is one of the classics of the Ozploitation genre.A lot of the background information regarding the production of this movie was sourced from Brian Trenchard-Smith's recent book, 'Adventures in the B Movie Trade'. This book is a great retrospective on his film career and recommended reading if you're in any way interested in filmmaking. The movie itself can be found on many streaming platforms. I've included the link to Prime below, however, I absolutely recommend picking up the feature-packed Blu-ray from Umbrella Entertainment. Here you'll find not only the movie and great commentary by Brian Trenchard-Smith, but a wealth of extras including some of his other films and documentaries, Stunt Rock, Deathcheaters, and Dangerfreaks to name a few. Links:Varicon Video - https://variconvideo.com/Brandon Hardy on Twitter - @TheBrandonHardyAdventures in the B Movie Trade - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JVLC35P/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_4ZDYPEF73ZTB9DER5SM2The Man From Hong Kong on Prime (AU) - https://www.primevideo.com/detail/0QSUFDZVQWF9KENZ88RXN8L9D1/ref=atv_dp_share_cu_rThe Man From Hong Kong Blu-Ray -  https://www.umbrellaent.com.au/movies/2872-man-from-hong-kong-the-ozploitation-classics-blu-ray.htmlA Dingo Ate My Movie Socials:Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/dingomoviepodTwitter - @DingoMovieInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/dingomoviepod/Email - pete@dingomoviepod.com   Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/dingomoviepod)

Focusing on five films from his filmography, Adam and Darrell discuss the merits of The Man From Hong Kong (1975), Stunt Rock (1978), Turkey Shoot (1981), BMX Bandits (1983) and Dead End Drive In (1986) and how these films encapsulate the career of BTS.Check out the Cine-Lit website for additional content and further reading - https://cinelitpodcast.wordpress.com/ Get bonus content on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
