The writer Maggie Serota returns to the show for a deep dive into the 2013 music documentary for Showtime, History of the Eagles, directed by Alison Ellwood. This comprehensive 3 hour documentary is the official story of one of America's biggest rock bands, spanning their massive popularity in the seventies, their solo careers in the eighties and their reunion in the nineties, but Maggie and I think that as entertaining as the movie must be for fans of The Eagles, it's even more fun to watch if you're not a fan. As sanitized and flattering the film is towards the group's two leaders Glenn Frey and Don Henley, their legendary arrogance and the shocking mistreatment of the other members of the group (in particular the guitarist Henley coldly refers to as “Mr. Felder”) bursts through the constructed image to create a very funny portrayal of toxic masculinity and fevered egos on the rampage.  We discuss our favourite moments of hubris and chaos, compare this epic documentary to the more recent Beatles film Get Back (which also includes appearances from the great producer Glyn Johns, who clearly didn't enjoy working with the Eagles), and praise the MVP of the band and the film, guitar god Joe Walsh. Timothy Bruce Schmit is a singer, songwriter an bassist most know for his work with country rock band Poco, and as a member of Eagles.  He wrote the song "Keep on Tryin'" for Poco, which at the time was a huge hit, and after joining the Eagles in 1977 Schmit made an immediate contribution with the song "I Can't Tell You Why".  Schmit has also worked as a session musician with various musicians, and has released several solo albums, the latest being 'Day By Day' (2022). We spoke with Timothy about finding his stride as a songwriter, his time with the Eagles, creative freedom, songs inspired by his wife, how he deals with negative thoughts, his continuing passion for making music, and more! Interview by: Robin Hignell  Support the show

In her work she uses the imagery of film and popular culture to create a rich fictional and visionary world, while at the same time discussing contemporary, sociopolitical issues. Elise Tak works in both traditional media and in modern digital media using 3D software (such as Cinema4D, zBrush and several renderers) and image editors like Photoshop. By continually experimenting with new developments she continually pushes her own artistic skill to new limits. For over 30 years already she has dedicated herself to the creation of an ever-growing body of work, featuring the lives and careers of more than 10 fictional, yet ‘world famous’, movie actors. It is an intricate play between reality and fiction, between life and art, because whereas in the movies, real living actors create a false existence, in Tak’s work even these actors are pure fiction. Up to now Elise Tak has 'given birth' to 10 movie actors, with different ages and from different backgrounds. Their names are: Michael Okada, Thomas Kirby, Marian Xiao, Pete Banich, Marvin Dunbar, Forough Amirshahi, Jeni Wright, Roy Rebergen, Charlie Pep and Anita Carbajal. Elise Tak was born in the Netherlands and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Since the early 1990s her work has been shown in leading galleries, museums and art institutes like Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, Frans Hals Museum/De Hallen, Museum Helmond (The Netherlands); Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art (USA); Musée de Luxembourg, Musée d'Art Moderne Contemporain Strasbourg, FRAC Poitou-Charentes, Le Consortium (France). LOTL The Quiet Storm Welcomes K'Jon R&B singer K'Jon returns to the R&B scene with a soulful new single called ‘Tell You Why.'   It's been a minute since we've heard from the Detroit singer, who is mostly known for his No. 1 R&B song,On The Ocean and the beautiful ballad, ‘This Time On ‘Tell You Why,' K'Jon serenades a lovely woman that catches his eyes on the dance floor. “There she go / Dancing 'round and 'round / So incredible / And everything around her / She don't know it, but she will be mines / I'm going to tell her why she's everything,” he croons. On the chorus, he compliments her further by singing, “I love the way you move girl / I love everything you do girl / I love the way you style your hair / Love the way you smile girl.” For anyone looking for a romantic R&B song that's not sexually explicit and gentle on the ears, check out his tender ballad.   Yes we are ready!
