This week on Still Buffering, we're rounding up some strange and current trends and internet oddities. In personal news, Sydnee's ouija board is definitely haunted, and Teylor can maybe summon spiders. URL: Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Teylor is a Swiss technology company focused on building better financial products for small businesses in Europe.
Was natürlich alles irgendwo stimmt. This week on Neat! we travel around Teylor's favorite borough of NYC tasting all the variations on a classic made in its honor. Cheers!
This week, Teylor brought his sisters an album that is just perfect for a cold weekend in December, and we hope you think so too!Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Though admittedly this movie was far from any of our childhoods, it's become part of a meaningful holiday tradition for Teylor, so it merits a whole episode! Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Lending is one of the major pain points in finance, both from the perspective of lenders and borrowers. I have been following Teylor for a while, and it was high time for me to have a discussion with its CEO, Patrick. Starting as a solution to lending SMEs in Germany, Teylor cleverly diversified by developing a lending-as-a-service solution and a feature-rich SaaS platform for banks. Taylor aims to support SMEs while helping financial institutions streamline their lending operations. We also talked with Patrick about the financing aspect and the reasons that led this Switzerland-based startup to structure itself around a securitization vehicle in Luxembourg, enabling various types of lenders to participate in the financing process: junior, senior, and mezzanine tranches. This approach has allowed them to handle substantial volumes and rapidly expand their business. It is an episode I thoroughly enjoy, combining technicality and European structuring.

Continuing our decision to not discuss any media that is subject to the ongoing strikes, we've been talking about a lot of music recently, and now it's Teylor's turn!Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas

Sometimes, one of us loves a character or an artist or a body of work so much we can't even narrow down our favorite pieces, we just have to talk about absolutely all of it, so that's why this week Teylor has us talking ALL about ALL things Harley Quinn.Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Welcome to our June 2023 wrap-up with vital news from the startup scenes in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in 30 minutes or less

There have been many Batmans (Batmen, Batmi??) but to Teylor, there's one true Batman and one true Joker iteration that they love most, and it's this one, so let's talk about it!Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Rounding out our month of spook is a horror cult classic brought to us by our resident spooky movie sibling expert: Teylor! Tey's sisters had never heard of this one before, so it was up to them to introduce them to this Frankenstein-ish world of early 2000s good for her body horror. It's still Pride Month, but this time it's Pride: Secret Contraband Music Edition instead of Pride: Pirate Edition! So, of course, we're listening to the quintessential secret message music of Teylor's youth: Ani DiFranco.Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
It's yet another super influential media moment from the younger years of the older Smirl siblings that's been rebooted for the modern age: it's Chip and Dale! Sydnee and Teylor both had STRONG feelings about this one back in the day (most specifically about Gadget) so of course we had to revisit the reboot.Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Teylor is always introducing their sisters to cool, meaningful, and just overall really good stuff from their life, and this week is certainly no different. This album was new to Sydnee and Rileigh, while packing a whole lot of meaning for our middle sibling, so come check it out with us!Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas

As usual, Teylor has introduced their siblings to a really great anime they had never heard of before, and this time it's a spoooky one! Well, more so unsettling and thrilling than spook, but great nonetheless. Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
So many of the things that Sydnee and Teylor loved most in the past have made resurgences among the cool new teen generations, and My Chemical Romance is one of the biggest! Also, they did MCR song on Glee?? How was Rileigh unaware of this???Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas

Well, it's a classic movie from Teylor's youth that is worthy of discussion, but that doesn't mean Rileigh is happy about its leading man. It's that time of year where we all join together to sing badly about Jake Gyllenhaal, but I guess for this week we'll talk about a good movie of his.Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Rounding out our spooky season spectacular here on Still Buff is a classic from Sydnee and Teylor's youth that has crossed over into the new generation of Netflix reboots: it's "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" We have lots of thoughts on the various spooky stories and also the tiny leather bag of coffee creamer (?) so let's get into it before spooky season ends!Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas

Teylor has brought our siblings another important anime from their youth that isn't necessarily able to be comprehended easily, BUT it's entertaining and exciting and full of robots all the same.Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
My guest today is Teylor Martinez! Teylor is my not only my girlfriend, but she's my best friend! No, not the Edgar Allen kind, but the cool 90s music kind! It's Poe! Teylor and Sydnee shared a love for Poe's music, and Rileigh had never heard of her, but of course she found a way to equate her to Taylor Swift...so...let's go! Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
It was the first graphic novel series that Teylor ever introduced to a very small Rileigh back in the day, and now it's a whole movie that we're giving a whole episode to! People turn into coins and there are pee meters, what more could we need?Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Happy Pride! We love to see diversity and representation in our media, and Teylor delivered this week with one of their long-time favorite anime. Also there are cars that are people and also symbols?Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
We will admit, the description of the movie's plot doesn't make it seem like the most fun watch, but we promise it's worth it. Teylor introduced us all this week to a 90s cult classic, and as three queer people, we had to get up in there. Come join us at New Directions! Or is it True Directions? Which one's from Glee?Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
It's the mooost wonderful time of the year, it's MaxFunDrive! To kick off this momentous occasion, we're exploring Teylor's secret musical obsession from their teendom: Tegan and Sarah! Also, someone make Rileigh stop with her MaxFunDrive theme song...please.Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
In this multi-media special episode, we're going back to the original Tank Girl, in both comic and movie forms! Tank Girl always meant a lot to Teylor, so now we all want to see what all the hype is about.*This episode was recorded before Cinnamon Toast Crunch shrimp guy was revealed to be a milkshake duck, but that big boat is still stuck that has not changed. Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
They were around back in Sydnee and Teylor's day, and they have persevered all the way into the modern era, complete with their own jukebox Broadway musical, it's Green Day! What is it about their music that's just so darn listenable, and also how about that musical though??Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Since it's that kind of year so far and we all needed a nice, relaxing break into the realm of Studio Ghibli, Teylor has brought us Howl's Moving Castle! A new movie for both Sydnee and Rileigh, we're going all in on Howl's fashion influence on Teylor and how good the FOOD in this movie looks. Also, go check out Teylor's cosplay and cocktails video, featuring a Howl look! Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas

Disclaimer: Yes, we know we had an audio goof this week and Sydnee and Rileigh sound different than they usually do. We're sorry if it affects your listening, and we promise it won't happen again! Rileigh was unaware of the magical, glorious, internet world of StrongBad until Candlenights this year, so Teylor knew it was their duty to rectify this travesty. Now that Rileigh is significantly more cultured, let's talk about it!Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
This is truly the greatest gift Rileigh could have received in 2020: the chance to force her siblings to listen to not one, but two whole Taylor Swift albums and then talk about them with her. Also, Sydnee and Teylor were completely unaware of all the theories and canon surrounding Taylor and her music, so we HAD to get all up in that too.Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
2020 hasn't gifted us much, but it did bring us a reboot of one of Teylor's favorite childhood cartoons: Animaniacs! We watched some old classics and some new hits, and we're ready to talk about those crazy, um...dogs? Cats? Mice? Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Well, Sydnee finally realized what she has done in bringing Jewel to the discussion table this week. Upon Rileigh's first-ever listen and Teylor's first re-listen in forever, the siblings dive right into all the angsty, earnest lyrics we love from Jewel, as well as all the songs and hits that don't exactly stand the test of time. Also, bonus secret track?Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Well, the day has come. I guess we all knew we would end up here at some point, right? None of us thought it would happen in the first year, but I guess it was its time. We're diving head first into the world of sexy, sparkling, baseball playing vampires, and Teylor has never experienced any of it, until NOW. Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
As our first journey into the world of manga here on Still Buffering, Teylor is introducing us to one of their favorite stories from their college years: The Bug Boy! Also, we're introducing yet another iteration of our show, "To Bils and Uh Tedd!" Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
As a first in Still Buffering history, both Rileigh and Sydnee are sharing their excitement over a show they both loved that Teylor has never seen: Veronica Mars! She's everyone's favorite angsty teen private investigator, and her show has spanned all of our generations...but can we talk about the ending of that reboot though?Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Before there were teen heartthrobs and boy bands and scrunchies...there were our favorite cartoons! One of Teylor's has always been the story of that lil toaster that could, but it's actually a little bit darker than any of us remembered.Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Fiona Apple was a favorite artist of both Sydnee and Teylor back in the day, despite her "angsty piano playing," as some have described it. To make her music even more perfect for this podcast, she's come back just this year with a new album! An artist who spans generations for a podcast that spans generations, perfect!!TW: Brief mention of experience with sexual assaultMusic: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Sydnee has always loved this movie, and to be fair, Teylor and Rileigh like it too. But Sydnee couldn't figure out why it got so much hate and bad reviews when it came out nearly two decades ago. Now, after watching the trailer together and voicing the plot out loud over the course of this episode...maybe we see why.Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
A classic, creepy cartoon straight from the early 2000s has a place in the hearts of all three Smirls, but Teylor especially. Who doesn't love talking about Zims and GIRs and Dibs, oh my!Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Teylor has brought forth some music this week that challenges the other two-thirds of the trio to explore a genre they may not have otherwise revisited, or explored for the first time. Also, we all need some distraction in these times, so come have an hour of non-pandemic fun with us, okay?Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
In our first anime/cartoon episode of this new show, we're diving fully into Teylor's first favorite: Sailor Moon! It's long been a staple of all of the sisters' lives, from sketchy dubs purchased online to second grade talent show performances, so it's about time we talk about it! As requested by a listener, Emma, this week, the sisters are talking about flirting! Sydnee is a self-proclaimed "expert" in flirting, Rileigh believes she is somewhere in the middle, and Teylor is very open about how bad she thinks she is at flirting. From the ~look~ to the mixtapes, flirting spans the ages, just like our sisters, so let's talk about it! Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Corey and Matt catch up with Cool Beans Comedy favorite, comedian Taylor Tomlinson, after finishing her set on the Ice House Comedy Club main stage. They discuss her new found recognition, high school, Matt's desire for kids, reading to children, being fat, and mustard sweaters. Do enjoy! "Taylor Tomlinson started doing stand up comedy at just sixteen years old, when she realized that her quiet, sarcastic asides were not being adequately appreciated by her peers. Her self-deprecating charm and conversational wit have made her a favorite at comedy clubs, colleges, corporate events, and other suspicious, rented spaces across the country. She was featured in her own regular segment ("Young as Hell") on Laughs on FOX season 1 and can now be seen hosting the show every week. She was a top ten finalist on season 9 of NBC's Last Comic Standing and can be seen on the upcoming season of Adam Devine's House Party on Comedy Central." *Source. In a special edition of Still Buffering, the sisters cover a topic that can't be compared to the generations of Sydnee and Teylor, but rather is so new that we all just want to be updated on the new technology with the teens. So, let's discuss the somewhat terrifying thing that is a Snapmap and maybe finally figure out that dichotomous key of social media classification. Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
From teen summer camp romances to the music classes taught by famous superstar brothers, most people have wondered where the summer camps in movies and tv shows actually exist, and so have the Smirl sisters! To celebrate summer and one of its staples in American media and culture, the sisters have covered it all, even Teylor's adventures at Camp Lincoln and "marine biology camp." Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Summer is finally here! Our babiest Smirl girl is on summer vacation at last, and you know what that means: soakin' up rays and catchin' those waves! But before we soak up too many of those rays, maybe we should talk about tanning and how safe/necessary/popular it has become through the years. Or you could follow Teylor's foolproof way to avoid a burn/skin damage: STAY INSIDE! Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
Happy Valentine's Day! To celebrate this (kinda sucky) day, the sisters continue their conversation on dating that they started many months ago. Last time, they covered how teens start dating and "talking to" someone, and now they're here to tell you how to go on the most successful teen dates throughout the years, from ample parking space dates to "Netflix and chilling." We hope you have a decent Valentine's Day and don't eat any of those chalky conversation hearts (even though Teylor loves them.) Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
On this episode of Court Appointed, Mike and Tommy call an expert witness to the stand to discuss Christmas Spirits, past, present, and future. Middle Smirl Sister Teylor Smirl joins Court Appointed as a guest this week; much donut talk ensues. Teylor also concocts a special cocktail for Court Appointed named a Preliminary Beering. Music, "Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief" by MCRB.
This week, Sydnee and Teylor realize that Rileigh is like an old person when it comes to sleep, which is to say, she loves it and needs to go to bed early and sleep late every day. In order to break her of these habits, the older sisters recount their favorite late night activities, which apparently include minor misdemeanors?
Teylor kicks us off this week with a details of her Pokemon Go exploits. ___________ pt4: Cowboy Bebop (Anime 2001) Keith’s pick this week is the genre-blending series from director Shinichirō Watanabe. This 26 episode series (plus a movie) explores a futuristic galaxy with a group of bounty hunters. The writers started with extensive world building, detailing all the different planets and expressions of civilization throughout the universe. They then played with different tropes within the world they had built. Originally imagined as a toy vehicle Bandai gave them cart blanche, the one condition being they have cool space ships. Part way through the project Bandai toys realized the series wouldn’t work for their purposes. Bandai Visual (a separate division) swept in before the series was cancelled to be a production partner. Composer Yoko Kanno formed a Jazz & Blues band “The Seatbelts” as part of the process of composing the score and soundtrack for the series. The music is some of the best written for television. The opening title sequence, which includes the song “Tank,” is at once retro and original- it has influenced a number of animated series opening since, like Teen Titians on Cartoon Network. The cast of characters are unique individuals with their own stories. Each character has their storyline explored through the course of their adventures. You can purchase the anime on Amazon, or stream it on Hulu. ______________________ NEXT WEEK: We’ll return to discuss a new topic for a couple of episodes, Father’s and what they want to share with their kids. In our opener Keith expounds on his favorite museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art. You can get a membership to this beacon of culture in a desert of lots of other culture that is NYC. ___________ pt3: Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad (Manga & Anime 1999-2008) John’s pick this week, which he gets to after a rambling retelling of his path to discovering Anime, is the music/rock band anime & manga “Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad.” The Manga started in 1999 and finished in 2008, it was collected in 34 volumes. Unfortunately the US localization rights were released before the entire series was published in the states. The mangaka Harold Sakuishi was a fan of wrestling and baseball, both of which he did comics for and references in Beck. The animated series is pretty economical and relays the first third or so of the manga over 26 episodes. The Beat Crusaders provided most of the music, making this one of the better series about musicians and bands, with fun and poppy rock music. Fender released a series of guitars inspired by designs from the series, which themselves were inspired from actual guitar models. You can purchase the anime on Amazon, or stream it on Hulu. ______________________ NEXT WEEK: We conclude our topic and our time with Teylor (but we need to get her back- to find out what Slipknot mask she’d have). Keith’s is the last pick, the series Cowboy Bebop. You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Before we get into our main pick from Jules shares something new to him: the Ricoh Theta S, a 360 Camera. He took a Panorama of us all at the table Check it out in an explorable format here on John’s Facebook ___________ pt2: Serial Experiments Lain (Anime 1998) Teylor presents her pick on our topic this week with the animated 13 episode series Serial Experiments Lain. This series is a standout for the writer and producers. Yoshitoshi ABe lent his talents as the character designer. He has designed for a number of series. Two great ones, as mentioned by Teylor; NieA 7 & Haibane Renmei. Lain explores the breakdown of self and mental health as well as existential questions in a world where we construct new realities and selves to fill a ‘virtual’ space. Lain is drawn and voice directed differently baed on the which aspect of her personality she takes on. A diligent denizen of the wired gathered all the boards from the extra features and posted them here. You can purchase the anime on Amazon, or stream it on Hulu. There are storyboards on some of the commentary tracks. ______________________ NEXT WEEK: We continue with our topic with John’s pick, the manga and anime series Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. This week, the sisters got a tad more serious than they are in their usual episodes, but with all three of them having personal experiences and troubles with this topic, it was something they felt needed to be discussed. But don't worry, there are still goofs as they try to crack FaceBook algorithms and why they always show Teylor cupcakes. Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
The third Smirl sister, Teylor, is back again this week to discuss one of the trio's favorite hobbies, reading. Join the sisters as they discuss their favorite books, past required reading for school, and somehow end up connecting the world of Grease to that of Harry Potter. Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
The trilogy of Smirl Sisters is finally completed this week with the addition of Teylor! As the coolest nerd we know, Tey has some advice for Rilo on how to find her tribe and Syd tries to convince her to embrace her inner tardigrade. Oh, and there is a lot of Sailor Moon talk. I mean, a lot. Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas
