Hello Adventurers! As Valentione's Day has just passed us by, we thought now would be a great time to show some of the characters in Final Fantasy XIV some love. As it just so happens, GPOSERS had kicked off the month with a post on Bluesky that links to a FFXIV character Tiermaker. And thus, after recording for three or so hours… and many… many more hours of editing after the fact, we now present to you The Official Carbuncle Chronicle Character Rankings: From ARR to Endwalker. But also, we talk a little bit about what we are excited for in the upcoming patch of 7.2: Seekers of Eternity.Spoiler Levels: Archon Loaf! Baked with either fish or vegetable flour, this fluffy loaf of rye bread is?from a nutritional standpoint?wholesome indeed. OK, so rather than fish or vegetable flour, this no-less fluffy loaf of a podcast is baked with love (and hate) for the many great (and terrible) NPCs that form the backbone of the MMORPG we all enjoy! So spoilers will, in fact, be aplenty.OSMnotesThank you to GPOSERS for the great idea prompt for the podcast topic! But without further ado, here's that final tier ranking image:But also, Time Cues! And just so you know, we end up going through the list alphabetically, so when you see a name listed in the cues that's where we are in the ranking: Ahewann thru Zenos.00:00:00 – Intro and Three Things We Are Looking Forward to in Patch 7.2!00:11:26 – The Character Tier Rankings Begin00:16:46 – Setting the Rules00:17:14 – We Each Pick a Winner00:24:41 – Ahewann, and Other Characters that Start With the Letter A00:40:31 – Beq Lugg, and Beyond00:56:00 – Estinien!!!01:14:59 – Kai-Shirr???01:26:33– Moenbryda, Forever in Our Hearts01:39:39– Pipin, and His Most Glorious Hair01:53:10– Ysayle, and Wrapping up the RankingsMusic is this episode features tracks such as “Sanctuary's Heart: Close in the Distance” (Remixed by DJ Mitsu the Beats), “The Aetherial Sea” (Composed by Masayoshi Soken, Arranged by Daiki Ishikawa), “Black and White” (Composed by Masayoshi Soken, Arranged by Yukiko Takada), “Pulse: A Long Fall” (Remixed by Takafumi Imamura), “estinien.mp4” (Remixed by Denmo McStronghuge), “Knowledge Never Sleeps” (Composed by Masayoshi Soken, Arranged by Yoshitaka Suzuki), “Magicked Skulls” (Composed by Masayoshi Soken), “Sultana Dreaming” (Composed by Masayoshi Soken), “Perfumed Eves” (Composed by Masayoshi Soken, Arranged by Daiki Ishikawa), “Your Answer” (Composed by Nobuo Uematsu, Arranged by Takafumi Imamura & Daiki Ishikawa), and “Pulse: Insatiable” (Remixed by Shoya Sunakawa). We also have YouTube Channels! Hello Adventurers! And wait for it, no longer! Since we've gotten the vast majority of things one can do in the current patch that is 7.1: Crossroads, we figured now would be a great time to talk about it. But not only that, we also delve into some of things that we are looking forward coming to Final Fantasy XIV this year. (And in fact, after we recorded, we learned even more about what is coming soon since there has been a Live Letter all about 7.2: Seekers of Eternity!)Spoiler Levels: Popoto Chips! Hello Adventurers! While our last episode was all about our journey through Dawntrail as it was happening, this one is looking back at after finishing the Mainline Story Quest (colloquially known as the MSQ). Since we are now in the thick of Patch 7.1: Crossroads, we wanted to make sure to take a beat before the patch hit and get our thoughts out before the game continues to change and grow.Joining us in reminiscing of uh, times not all that long passed, is our pal Umi aka Doug from OSMcast proper. He gives us a blow by blow of all the Jobs he's been playing since the new expansion came out, and came up with some excellent sound design tips! And how about that MSQ , huh? Stuff sure happens, and we talk all about it! Finally, we get ourselves all hyped up for the new patch (which is already out). If you want our thoughts on that however, you'll just have to… Wait for it.Spoiler Levels: Creamy Alpaca Pasta! These rustic handmade noodles are boiled until tender, then tossed in a pan with grilled alpaca fillet and broccoli florets in a cream sauce. This hearty dish is the perfect compliment to both speeding up your spells' cast times, but also for really digging into the spoilers that we chat about in the later portions of the episode.OSMnotesYou know it, you love it, you may even use it! Hello Adventurers! Well, we are finally here! Kinda. Not quite. We are now just days, days before the latest Final Fantasy XIV expansion: Dawntrail! The servers are down, the patch is up for download, and Square Enix is already asking folks to not spoil stuff. So we're not gonna! Because this is all pre-Dawntrail stuff. The latest Letter from the Producer LIVE, our muses, our crackpot theories, all you need to keep that Dawntrail hype alive for a couple more days! And then we're in it! So go forth, listen, and enjoy.Spoiler Levels: Baked Eggplant! Now, you would think that Baked Eggplant wouldn't be all that spicy. You'd think. But this is a potent DPS-rich meal! So perhaps this isn't an episode spoiler filled per se, but we would recommend that you listen to this episode after you are current playing right before Dawntrail. Hello Adventurers! While last year was the 10 Year Anniversary of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, this year is our 10 Year Anniversary of playing Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn! So, we thought it would be nice to look back at those halcyon days of times long ago. Specifically, ten years ago. And to join us down this trip on memory lane, we are joined by the fellows Chille and Paul of Moogle Go Round Radio! MGR is a FFXIV podcast and stream where they, if you can believe it, talk about Final Fantasy XIV. They also just recently celebrated their own 8th Anniversary of existence! You can trust us when we say they were the perfect pair to chat with us about how TP used to be real and could hurt you.Spoiler Levels: La Noscean Toast! This is not an especially spoiler-filled episode, unless you have never played Final Fantasy XIV at all ever. In which case, have you heard about the free trial? And then come back to us after you finish up with ARR. Otherwise: Enjoy this delicious episode that has been soaked mixture of buffalo milk and eggs, and then fried in creamy butter. A specialty at the Drowning Wench in Limsa Lominsa!OSMnotesOnce again big thanks to Paul and Chille for chatting with us! And as you may have noticed, this is a Part 1! Because we had planned to talk about the expansions leading up to Dawntrail, but we only got as far as A Realm Reborn. Guess we'll have to schedule a Part 2 at some point! Hello Gentlepeople! We here at The Manderville Minute have been covering the amazing work of Manderville Family in all facets of Ul'dah life, and this time we have decided to tackle the most gentlemanly of gentlemen: Hildibrand Helidor Maximillian Manderville. He is a Manderville Man that can only do what a Manderville can, as he travels the realm as a self-titled “agent of enquiry, inspector extraordinaire” alongside his assistant, Nashu Mhakaracca. Now wait just a gosh darn moment… No, what do you mean this about an MMORPG called Final Fantasy XIV? No, this is an audio recording all about one of our great Thanalan heroes! Perish the thought that this could be about some mere game.Spoiler Levels: Truffles à la Manderville! This is a sweet and fluffy episode. We do talk about all sorts of the events that you can find in the various Hildibrand Adventures in Final Fantasy XIV, up to and including the events and trial in Patch 6.55. While we don't get into too much MSQ talk… If you want to go into Hildibrand completely unsullied, this is your warning.Manderville NotesHope you all enjoyed the episode! Hello Adventurers! Now that we are solidly in the true “Wait Till Dawntrail” part of our Final Fantasy XIV life cycle, we thought it was best to look back to what we just got to play through. And that is Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.55: Growing Light – Part 2! Not only did we get our true onramp storyline-wise leading into the upcoming expansion, but we also got a bunch of capstones to a lot of side content. From Hildebrand blasting off again, to seeing how our allied tribe quests sorted out, we are talking about it all. Yes, even the part about the cheese. Spoiler Levels: Very Hot, like Spicy Stellar Soup hot! This is a very hot and savory episode. We namedrop Endwalker Extremes from the get-go, we talk about stuff that happened in Stormblood, and how everything is leading into Dawntrail. Hello Adventurers! Welcome to the Year of Our Yoshi-p Twenty Twenty Four. It's going to be an exciting year, this 2024! Not only it's the Lunar Year of the Dragon, it's ALSO the year of the next Final Fantasy XIV expansion: Dawntrail! And earlier in January we got a whole bunch of announcements made at the 2024 Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Tokyo, Japan. From the final CG teaser trailer, to Pictomancer, to hrothgals lion ladies, and even [REDACATED], if it was in the keynote, we are here to talk into microphones about them.Spoiler Levels: Hot! We may say it's medium to hot in the episode, but let's be honest. If you don't care all that much about spoilers, they are medium. If you do care, they are hot. Maybe not Blazin' Knock Your Butt Off... But you'll probably will want to wrap up the latest stuff in Endwalker before you hit play.OSMnotesThanks to Tobias for continuing to pitch hit edit the podcast for Anna, it has been a life saver. Since we almost just go in order of the keynote, we don't really have Time Cues this time. Just kick back, put the podcast on, and go grind some tomes. Tobis did do, however, is that he gave use what music is used in the episode. Which are The Carbuncle Chronicle Theme by Anna and DJ Inubito, "Battle on the Big Bridge" by The Black Mages, "Return to Oblivion (Scions & Sinners) by The Primals, "And Love You Shall Find" FFXIV Shadowbringers, and "Heartless (Chiptune)" by TESTS04.We also have YouTube Channels now! It's a brand-new year, and we're kicking of 2024 with a look back on 2023. In video games. If you want other media mediums, sorry but you'll have to settle this time. Because aside from a tabletop game in Dylan's list, that's all we got this time. I'm sure anime and other things will be talked about in future episodes. Just not this one. But this one? This one's for the Gamers™.Protip: Also, this episode is barely edited. And I do mean barely!OSMnotesHope you enjoyed this episode! If you were expecting Time Cues, sorry! Like mentioned previously, this episode was only barely edited so we could get it out in a remotely timely manner. Huh, what's that? Something about how we are supposed to have an Anime Secret Santa episode or two out before Christmas? So why are we worried about being timely? Weird. Must be hearing things. Hello Adventurers! As the year of our Yoshi-p 2023 comes to an end, we thought it would be good idea to talk about the patch that we've all been playing as the year closes out: 6.5 Growing Light - Part 1. And to join us in these talks, we had the excellent fortune to bring on Mippa to help us break it all down. (And if you need yet more Mippa, and you assuredly do, we actually had an interview with her not too long ago.) From the latest storyline reveals, to the shores of Aloalo Island, the depths of the Lunar Subterrane, and the hidden mysteries of Thalia, we leave no stone unturned as we dig into all the good stuff Final Fantasy XIV has to offer us right now.Spoiler Levels: Extremely High! It's the latest patch! All of it that's fit to print! We're talking about it! And then some! You are warned.OSMnotesThanks to Mippa for joining us on the podcast! It was a super fun conversation, and we can't wait to have her on again. And if you want to follow more of Mippa's adventures in Eorzea and beyond, don't forget to check out her Twitter and Tumblr! Hello Adventurers! The next Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Dawntrail, is arriving next year but this past October during the 2023 London FanFest we got yet more details about it. And perhaps the biggest news (that's not the new Viper job) was the announcement of the next alliance raid series being in collaboration with Final Fantasy XI. You know, the other Final Fantasy MMO! We need a FFXI expert. Someone who has been in the trenches, really seen some stuff. So, to talk about this we recruited a longtime friend of both The Carbuncle Chronicle and the OSMcast!, Cevian, who was more than up to the task to tell us all about it.OSMnotesOnce again, we want to thank Tobias for stepping up and editing the episode. And did you know that his other FFXIV x One Piece podcast released an episode this week as well. Well, you do now! It's actually much heavier on the One Piece this time, so one might think of our episode doing it's due diligence to make sure the FFXIV side is properly represented. And thanks once again to Cevian for making sure that the FFXI side was also properly represented! In fact while we were talking, Cevian kept throw us some FFXI pictures to give us some visual references. And now, you can have them too:Also, Tobias did Time Cues:00:00:00: The Basil Addendum00:01:55: Introductions and What's Been Going On Lately00:14:19: 2023 London FanFest Keynote Discussion01:03:59: Echoes of Vana'diel Discussion with Cevian01:24:18: Final Keynote ThoughtsHe even went ahead and listed the music used in the episode. Ever wonder what's next in life? Perhaps even in the next life? Sure, reincarnation is a possibly, but have you ever considered reincarnating into a JRPG? Chances are you have as the genre of isekai is now an anime ever-presence, and people are just dying all over the place to score some sweet levels! But if you ever had to pick only one series to follow, might we suggest the series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime? It's a light novel series by Fuse and illustrated by Mitz Vah, but also comes in both anime and manga varieties! The anime is developed by studio Eight Bit, and the manga is illustrated by Taiki Kawakami.PS I know it's listed in the Time Cues but do not sleep on preordering Dear Brother that show is so good you don't even know. Unless you do know, and have already preordered it.OSMnotesSo if you listen to this episode, we talk about puppies. And as Puppy Fever has caught on, it also grabbed Basil and Anna quite strongly. In short, they also have a new puppy! And well... As it turns out, getting a new puppy sure can take a lot out of ya! Also, while we absolutely recommend getting vaccinated as soon as one can... Maybe don't adopt a new puppy in the same time frame. But Basil and Anna's new puppy Yda is settling in just fine now, and by this Friday the core Alabama crew will be fully vaccinated! So that's very exciting and hopefully that news will buoy you through the fact that we meant for past couple of weeks. Either way, one of the shows that has really captured the imagination of a lot of folks in the year 2021 was been this Marvel Studios show on Disney+. It's called WandaVision, directed by Matt Shakman and written by Jac Schaeffer.Chances are, you've heard about it! In fact it's highly likely you have already watched it. And as is turns out, we have too! We liked it a lot, so much we went and made a podcast about it. It's just like... way out, man. OSMnotesSo may have listened to this episode and wondered just where could one find this WandaVision show? Well wonder no more, as it's on Disney+! ... You probably already knew that though, didn't you? You probably did. But maybe you didn't know we have a Discord (we do!)? Come on and join us and talk about anime and food and stuff. And you definitely didn't know that you can leave us reviews on Apple Podcasts. But you can and we would absolutely love it if you did! Oh, would you look at the time! As it so happens, almost a year ago we did a podcast on an anime movie from Science Saru, directed by Masaaki Yuasa, about folks and the ocean. So what better time to talk about an anime movie from Science Saru, directed by Masaaki Yuasa, about folks and the ocean! Only this time, it's the movie Lu Over the Wall. It's about a Tokyo kid stuck in a sleepy ocean town. It's full of fun, dancing, and as it turns out... mild potential horror? Now maybe you you'd think, "Oh, there is no way someone can make two anime movies about the ocean that also have a very heavy music component and yet be all kinds of different!" Well, to that we would love to introduce this director guy. His name is Masaaki Yuasa, and he is a mad genius. This is a podcast about an anime movie he directed, with the studio Science Saru.OSMnotesSo many ways to watch this movie right now! It's on Netflix, or you can just buy the dang thing on Blu-ray! (Basil swore he saw it on HBO Max, but it gone now.) Hopefully you are able to do one of these things, because it is absolutely deserves a watch or multiple. When in doubt, sleep in and have androids do the work. Especially if humanity is is threated by extinction via machines sent for our doom by space aliens. At least that seems to be the case for our latest episode! We are talking about Yoko Taro's NieR: Automata, developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix. We also talk about some other classic OSMcast topics like TV shows from Norway, manga, and Pokémon! And at the end, feelings. OSMnotesHope everyone enjoyed the episode! We also just want to take a moment and point out that A.) Our wonderful editor Anna is very good and she deserves all the praise one can give. B.) Basil really should make a list of things to say at the end so he never forgets that. C.) So sure. maybe some other major video games expo may be happening right now, but what about what has happened before? Like, say, Momocon a few weeks back. If there was a bingo card for all that is good about Dragon Ball, this movie would win all the Dragon Balls. There are some things we thought we would never see. One of things being a Dragon Ball Z movie in theaters in America. Furthermore, a Dragon Ball Z movie in a theater in our own town. For that Dragon Ball Z movie to be highly entertaining. We also never thought we would see a movie called Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. Another thing that we never thought we would be able to do? Another Year, another Easter, another MTAC. Like in years of the past, we ventured into the Middle Tennessee Anime Convention for their latest year, MTAC In Love. But. were we in love with the con this year? Well, like any loving relationship, we had our ups, and our downs. There were some missed communications, but at the same time there were moments of bliss. Ultimately though, at the end of the day or con or whatever, we could look into each other’s eyes and see that the fire was still there. Speaking of loving relationships, we are once again joined at the hip with the Chainsaw Buffet podcast for this episode. We wouldn’t want to have it anyother way. OSMnotes Next week, we’ll be updating! Again! With another interview! How exciting! But hold your horses folks, but we still have Time Cues. Oh boy! Kami-Con Season 6: Heartless in Wonderland, where the hearts roam free and wild and uh, less? In our first con report of 2014, we decided to head down to Birmingham, AL to check out Kami-Con‘s sixth year. As it turns out, we had a great time at the con! Sadly, not such a great time in the city. However, you’ll be able to hear all about the good, the bad, and the awesome contained in audio form therein! We also brought back our “REALLY real real” segments for this conquestable podcast. What are those, you may ask? The “REALLY real real” segments are when we go forth and talk to the con goers themselves on how they enjoyed the con and their own person highlights. Sometimes they get their own episode, but this time we decided to included them during the breaks. OSMnotes And we mentioned it during the podcast, but once again we want to congratulate Ray and Chelsea on their getting married and wish them nothing but the best. We also wish Kami-Con the best but the con itself did not get married. That would have been weird. But you know what aren’t weird? Time Cues! If only France was actually this cool! Podcasting to be the very best, like no one ever was, the latest OSMcast! is all Nintendo’s and Game Freak’s latest duo of RPGs, Pokémon X. Oh, and also Y. For you see, as it turns out, Basil, Doug, and Kevin all ended up getting Pokémon X. So we brought in our buddy Barry to represent the Y. But not the Ys. That would be different game entirely. Still a pretty awesome one, though. HOWEVER, this episode is all about the awesomeness that is Pokémon X (and also Y). And whatever else we talked about! Mmmm, cartoons! They are the best. So, you may have heard about this Korra cartoon THING that just had it’s second season opener and you may wonder if you should go back and catch the first season. But hey, if you ARE wondering that, well we have the answer for you! Short answer: Yes, of course you should. We even did an OSMcast all about it. Long answer: You listen to our latest episode that tells you all about it. That’s right here. You can just click about or download it or maybe you have done one of those things. In that case you should have already begun watching the first season. If you haven’t, I guess just listen to the podcast again. TL;DR: This episode of the OSMcast is about The Legend of Korra: Book One, Air. It’s a pretty cool cartoon made by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino and a sequel to Avatar: the Last Aibender. You can go listen to us yap on about how cool we think it is. OSMnotes Firstly, here’s a link to the Blu-ray of the first season. Here’s a link to the DVD version. Secondly, ACTUAL SHOW NOTES?! Those sure are some TIME CUES. Now how about some PANEL CUES?! Panel Cues for Anime Weekend Atlanta, as told to Basil by way of AWA unless things change which they totally can! Manga You Need to Buy Right Now! (9/27/13 3:30 PM-4:30 PM | CGC – 104): Manga, the world of Japanese comics. There used to be an absolute ton of these things on the market, but times are changing… and not for the better. However, there are still a great many series and one shots that are being published today. And we’re going to tell you all about them! Petals and Penguins: The Work of Kunihiko Ikuhara (9/28/13 5:00 PM-6:00 PM | CGC – 106): The creator and director of Revolutionary Girl Utena, Kunihiko Ikuhara is a man who loves imagery. And metaphor. And messing with your mind. His works make you think, make you feel, and usually not in the ways you’re probably meant to when you started your day. But yet, we always keep coming back for more. From his start in the anime adaption of Sailor Moon, to Penguindrum and beyond, we look into the twisted body of work that has defined Kunihiko Ikuhara. Getting Your Anime Groove Back (9/29/13 11:00 AM-12:00 PM | CGC – 104): Anime burn out happens all the time. Sometimes life gets in the way and people lose interest in keeping up with the latest shows and news. This panel looks at a few shows that may rekindle that anime fan deep inside that just wants to be free again. The Weird Side of Go Nagai (9/29/13 2:30 PM-3:30 PM | CGC – 106): While Go Nagai is easily one of the most prolific and influential anime and manga creators of our time, not everyone knows his stranger side. Sure, some anime fans may know the popular stuff like Cutie Honey or Mazinger Z, but what about Aztechkaiser; a tokusatsu pro-wrestling live action show where the hero beats his enemies by turning into animation? Now that’s weird! Boy that sure was a whole lot of cues!
