Joined once again by Cam Sully of the Jacked Up Review Show Podcast, we discuss his uncanny comedic timing, busy career as “that guy” on our TVs, his wacky stories involving Steven Seagal and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and marvel at Cam's ability to rattle off so many of his 292 screen appearances. Flashback Episode of The Father Time Podcast with Jamie KalerHe is simply one of the greatest character actors we've ever known. He can play the Grand Master of the KKK in Mississippi Burning and then play "Needle Nosed Ned Ryerson" in Groundhog Day. His 254 credits on IMDb are the most I've ever seen and represent the filmography of most of our lives. Memento, Thelma and Louise, Sneakers, to now recurring on Californication, Silicon Valley, The Goldbergs, and One Day at a Time. And you'll hear why. He is a master story-teller. From growing up in a dry small town in Texas where dancing is outlawed (yes, just like Footloose), to his early theatre days, to raising his own children in Los Angeles, Stephen is open and has a fascinating outlook on life. He has also worked with every actor today. The game should really be "6 Degrees of Stephen Tobolowsky" You may also know him from his own phenomenal podcast "The Tobolowsky Files" or his new book "My Adventures with God".This is Part 1 - You can find what Stephen is up to at http://stephentobolowsky.com You can catch The Parent's Lounge live every Tuesday Night at 10pm EST/7pm PST at:https://www.facebook.com/theparentslounge#theparentslounge #fathertime #jamiekaler #jasongowin #katemulligan #steventobolowsky #heroes #thegoldbergs #thelmaandlouise #glee #siliconvalley #californication #funny #fatherhood #parentingpodcast #parentinghumor

Andrew Tobolowsky, author of a new book entitled The Myth of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, joins Dan and Lex to talk about what the Twelve Tribes of Israel myth is, and why it matters. They explore the ways in which groups have mobilized it -- all around the world -- for a few thousand years, and how that conversation across the millennia can help us better understand how people (and communities) continually construct and reinvent their identities. Thanks to three prominent exhibitions in the past nine years, sculptor George Tobolowsky has become synonymous with public art in Texarkana. You've probably seen at least one of his pieces, metal sculptures made of objects found in scrap yards and industrial sites. This week, he installed four new sculptures in Texarkana for an exhibition called “Bending the Rules 3.” While he was in town, he stopped by the studio to talk about his work, his process and his relationship with the Twin Cities. Sorry again for the long delay between episodes...! Ever since my interview with Mr. Tobolowsky my phone has been ringing off the hook with restraining orders and the like... :) In this episode my friend Craig and I discuss one of my favorite Seagal flicks (and the only one of his to get a sequel) Under Siege!
You've listened to the Tobolowsky interview now listen to our thoughts on the movie...Craig and I discuss The Glimmer Man and why it's always good to have some powdered deer penis on hand in case your allergies flare up.
Stephen Tobolowsky is back on the show!!! As a true master storyteller, he jumps straight into the interview telling me about his stressed out cat, and then he goes on to share how he met Lyle Lovett in Austin, how he was a victim of a crazy theft in South Carolina, and how he got his first acting job on TV. Last time I spoke to Stephen, he told us a story about young Stevie Ray Vaughan that went viral. No he comes back with an UPDATE on that story, but I'm not going to give it away, you'll need to listen to the episode to discover it. Stephen Tobolowsky is smart, unique, and the greatest storyteller I've ever heard. I was literally hanging on every word he said, and I bet you will too, so tune in and enjoy! “The difference between actors and writers is that actors are always interested in questions, and writers are always interested in answers.” - Stephen Tobolowsky Time Stamps:0:48 - Why I was excited to invite Stephen Tobolowsky back on the show. 4:55 - Stephen is having a crazy cat day. 9:15 - Stephen's story of meeting Lyle Lovett in Austin. 14:10 - How Stephen's father's pessimism is key to his longevity. 16:50 - The film from Nepal that Stephen saw at this year's USA Film Festival in Dallas. 23:50 - The hardships as the challenges of flexibility, and why it's important to remain flexible in life. 28:58 - A terrible story about “Debbie” from South Carolina. 40:00 - Why people become thieves, and why actors can become prey to thefts. 46:00 - What it takes to be a successful actor, or a successful chef, or podcaster. 52:05 - What Stephen's first acting job on television was. 1:02:01 - The story of dreams and Carl Jung. 1:06:10 - The perspectives Stephen has as an actor and as a writer, and the secret of screenwriting. 1:09:56 - Addendum for the Stevie Ray Vaughan story from the last episode. 1:17:11 - How the truth about UFOs is weirder than any UFO stories. Stephen Tobolowsky is a master storyteller. He has been in hundreds of movies, plays on Broadway, and is constantly appearing on network television shows. However, I wanted to talk to him about his podcast, "The Tobolowsky Files," which to be fair, is more of story time narrative than traditional interview podcast. I cannot explain how much impact and meaning I've gotten from this show. We talk in particular about these two episodes. I HIGHLY recommend you listen to them all, but especially these episodes: https://tobolowskyfiles.com/episodes/the-tobolowsky-files-ep-60-another-second-chance https://tobolowskyfiles.com/episodes/the-tobolowsky-files-ep-22-the-dangerous-animals-club From his website: "Stephen Tobolowsky is one of the leading character actors in film today. USA Today listed Stephen as the 9th most frequently seen actor in movies; he has appeared over 200 movies and television shows."
I’m Still Here is a collection of extremely moving, perspective-shifting, often funny, and truly inspired stories about survival. Starring Actors Tim Bagley and Stephen Tobolowsky with Author/Disrupter Kelly Carlin. We are all survivors. We are all still standing in the face of some challenges. These pieces will move you to laughter, tears, compassion, and consciousness. Believe it or not, despite the subjects tackled above, or perhaps because of it, the evening also contains a huge dose of humor. Truth is, without it, we wouldn’t still be here.

The penultimate episode of "Night Stalker" was one of a handful dumped onto iTunes in 2006. In this episode we get the return of Titus Berry (played by Stephen Tobolowsky here and Wally Cox in The Night Strangler) as Carl and the Scooby gang chase down a "vampire" who eats three pituitary glands every 35 years in order to extend her life.
With nearly 300 credits to his name Stephen Tobolowsky is one of the most prolific actors working in television, film, and stage. He's appeared on a diverse range of shows including Seinfeld, Mad About You, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Deadwood, Heroes, Californication, and Glee. I had Stephen on the show today to discuss his latest film STRANGE NATURE, as well as his iconic role as Ned in GROUNDHOG DAY.
In 1993, director Harold Ramis reteamed with comedy superstar Bill Murray to tackle a tricky comedy premise that would eventually go on to be modern classic: Groundhog Day. Murray plays a weatherman stuck in small Pennsylvania town during the titular day over and over again despite the many ways he tries to break out of it. But does the film deserve such acclaim or does it need to be forgotten by time? MovieDude Eric, Kent and Chris find out. In 1992, the director of "Field of Dreams," Phil Alden Robinson, made a film called "Sneakers" with a far-fetched plot about an unconstitutional secret NSA domestic surveillance system designed solely for the purpose of spying on unsuspecting American citizens. It’s a relief that nothing like that could ever happen in real life. Robert Redford plays a wisecracking cool guy with a secret past who leads a ragtag bunch of misfits who specialize in breaking into seemingly impenetrable buildings. Sidney Poitier plays a hot-tempered former CIA agent who is hellbent on scoring an all-expense paid vacation to Tahiti. Dan Aykroyd plays himself, a raving mad conspiracy theorist who somehow manages to be likable despite his unsettling eccentricities. David Strathairn (however you pronounce his name) plays a blind hacker with superhuman hearing and Holmesian powers of deduction. And, River Phoenix is in this movie behaving oddly. There's also a corny sub-plot where Mary McDonnell plays Robert Redford’s ex-girlfriend who he’s attempting to reconcile with while simultaneously using her as a pawn to execute his perilous caper. And last but not least, Sir Ben Kingsley plays a meek computer genius who gets hired by the mafia as their accountant while he's in prison. As you would expect, he manages to rise through the ranks of the mob and manages to become their Chief Technology Officer and becomes evil along the way. Join us as we try to figure out if River Phoenix was ever a good actor, discuss which famous actor in this used to be a clown, and try to unravel this labyrinth of a plot with more holes in it than Swiss cheese. With Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk fresh on our minds, we revisit his breakthrough film, 2000's MEMENTO, starring Guy Pearce as a man who can't make new memories, as well as Carrie-Anne Moss and Joe Pantoliano, who apparently think it's cool to exploit somebody's disability. It's not, Joey Pants! We thought this movie was unforgettable when we were younger, but, uh... I forgot what I was going to write. Listen below to find out. This is a very special episode of the Dana Gould hour podcast, not the least of which because it came out on schedule. I'm happy to welcome back to the show actor and author Stephen Tobolowsky. Stephen is a man after my own heart. He's an actor, an author, a musician. He is the epitome of those people who's name rings a bell and then you see them and say, "Oh THAT guy!" He played Ned Ryerson in Groundhog Day, he was the other amnesiac in Memento, he was Commissioner Jarry on Deadwood, the list goes on and on and on and on. He has a much beloved show on public radio, which is also a podcast, called the Tobolowsky Files and now he has new book entitled My Adventures With God. It's not so much a religious book, thank God, but it is the story of his ups and down in life, catastrophes, successes, and his struggle to obtain some sort of connection with a power greater than himself. As he writes so eloquently, "It's hard to believe in nothing. Even cats believe in suppertime. As much as we love certainty, we are often shaped by the invisible, the unexplainable--something we call faith. We are inclined to acknowledge the holy. Even if it is only a paper heart we find in an old suitcase." Stephen is the best storyteller I know, and that's saying a lot and I'm honored he's here. Joining Stephen is author Maggie Rowe. Maggie has been a good friend of mine for a long, long time. If you had asked me "Of all your friends, who would you say was the most, you now, 'normal'? Maggie would have been high on the list. And then, one day, while a-shootin' at some food, she casually mentioned that she had spent time in a psychiatric hospital and I went, "Oh realllllllly?" Her story is utterly fascinating and is the subject of her new book Sin Bravely. Maggie grew up in a moderately religious household but at a very young age, became obsessed with the fear that she was going to Hell. She struggled with this throughout her adolescence. Have you ever had a beautiful young girl walk up to you in a shopping mall and tell you you were going to Hell? If so, it might have been Maggie. Eventually, realizing she was heading down a road where she might end up, shall we say, something-something for Cocoa Puffs, Maggie checked herself into a Christian psychiatric hospital. I know, to many of you that might sound like a contradiction in terns, but you have to hear the story. It includes a former biker and meth-head struggling with anger management issues, a set of identical twins tormented by erotic fantasies. I'm honored to have both Maggie and Stephen on this episode. http://DanaGould.com

A satire of the Southern potboiler in the form of a beauty pageant, The Miss Firecracker Contest was first performed at a tiny LA theatre in 1980. Later moving to an off Broadway production directed by ubiquitous character actor and storyteller Stephen Tobolowsky. Tobolowsky’s childhood experiences served as the inspiration for this story of narcissism … Continue reading The Miss Firecracker Contest – Reading Plays – Episode 15 →
