I can best describe what we are doing by saying what we are not doing. We are NOT making a follow up to wonderfully made or unfazed- tho unfazed was very successful. what we are attempting to do is make a follow up to the song Hands In The Air musically and spiritually. if we are making a follow up at all."This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:05 UTC on Tuesday, 17 September 2024.For the full current version of the article, see The Waiting (band) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Matthew.

"I would say we're more aggressive than the average company. First off, there's rules. We are not a custom software shop, I do not build things for one customer. However, if there's something on our roadmap anyway and it's, I don't know, let's say, 12 months from now, and this prospect needs it now or sooner, I am willing to rearrange things. As I tell my prod teams "don't get married to your roadmap", married means you have emotional attachment to it and that you can't move things around, because what better proxy for prioritisation than speaking with the customer and them saying "I will buy now if you have it now"." Todd shares: - Pendo's founding story - The greatest signal of prioritisation a business can have - His philosophy of 'hiring for pain' - The impact active coaching had on his team - Their two year journey from $1M-$10M ARR: tripling growth rates and a high percentage of inbound demand - The three strategic anchors Pendo uses to make decisions, incl. being 'bold by choice' - How they've dealt with company growth often outpacing human and professional growth and more!Check out the other ways SaaStock is serving SaaS founders

In today's episode of Tech Talks Daily, I had the privilege of hosting Todd Olson, CEO of Pendo, for a fascinating discussion that traverses the realms of product analytics, AI adoption, and digital customer experiences. Todd's insights offer a deep dive into the evolving landscape where traditional companies increasingly identify as tech entities, requiring significant shifts in mindset and strategy. Todd elaborates on how enterprises are undergoing a paradigm shift, moving from project-based work to embracing the agility and continuous iteration technology enables. This transition necessitates shorter cycle times in software development, allowing rapid user feedback and influencing subsequent releases. Todd underscores the importance of transitioning from a 'project' to a 'product' mentality, highlighting that software demands ongoing care and nurturing. A critical aspect of our conversation revolves around the differing attitudes towards AI adoption in Europe and the United States. Todd points out that Europe tends to be more regulatory and cautious, particularly concerning privacy issues and AI accuracy, while the US often prioritizes innovation. He advises a measured approach to AI implementation, advocating for thorough testing and a gradual build-up of comfort based on proven results. Integrating new technological roles into existing structures is another challenge that Todd addresses. He emphasizes the importance of blending internal and external hires for effective knowledge transfer, highlighting that internal employees understand the company and product while external hires bring specialized role knowledge. Leadership communication around AI also emerges as a critical theme. Todd speaks to leaders' need to clearly articulate the 'why' behind AI to ensure middle management buy-in, a group often focused on executing current plans. Todd also touches on the crucial aspect of upskilling existing teams. He discusses the need to assess teams' willingness to embrace failure and change, acknowledging that some level of attrition can be healthy for company transformation. Lastly, we delve into the realm of digital customer experiences. Todd shares his belief in the power of empathy, achieved through self-use and observation, to ensure exceptional digital interactions. He provides insights into how observing user sessions can reveal critical pain points and drop-offs, ultimately enhancing the customer experience.

According to Todd Olson, Pendo’s founder and CEO, ‘the market isn’t just receptive to AI, it’s demanding it!’  So in this week’s episode of The Breakout Growth Podcast Sean Ellis and Ethan Garr dive deep with Todd, to better understand what this and other changes in the world of product, marketing, and growth will mean for businesses. Pendo helps companies accelerate how they build and launch products that customers actually want by combining the power of analytics tools with messaging and customer experience features. For Product-Led Growth companies, this can be quite powerful as it helps teams intelligently use analytics to understand and drive specific valuable behaviors.  In this spirited and fun conversation, we get a sense of Todd’s approach and philosophy, and how that has helped drive Pendo’s international growth over the past 10 years.  From the outset, the company was focused on improving customer experiences in software, but in the past few years, they have been able to accelerate that mission by investing in machine learning. Todd says it’s really important to understand that the “mindset drives the tech,” not the other way around, and he’s built a culture to support that. Just as with our last podcast episode with the VP of EMEA from Moloco, Todd is laser-focused on building enthusiasm around outcomes from technology, not on the technology itself. He says teams have a tendency to celebrate when they ship software, but really the celebration should start when the desired outcome is achieved. It’s this kind of candid and thoughtful growt-minded thinking that made for a great discussion and undoubtedly has been foundational to Pendo’s success thus far. So jump in! There is no one-size-fits-all approach to product-led companies. It's all about how the product becomes central to the customer experience.   But what are the secrets for making your product central to the customer experience?   In this episode, Kyle is joined by Todd Olson, CEO and Founder of Pendo - a platform that focuses on improving product experiences. They dive into what it takes to build a successful company using a PLG motion, Todd's journey with Pendo, the importance of validating ideas, obsessively monitoring beta users, and finding product-market fit. They also explore the three key areas for implementing product-led growth and the myth of a product selling itself. Join us for an insightful conversation on how to create a product-led organization that puts the customer experience first.   Here's what's inside:  Get rid of the product-led misconceptions: A common misconception for Product-Led Growth is “the product sells itself.” Todd says this isn't the case. If you're selling to a large organization, you're going to need a human involved. You can't sell a product without somebody to understand the customers' needs and tailoring things to their business. Become product-led for effective inbound demand: A Product-Led organization can help optimize inbound demand by directing customers to a tailored experience based on their segment. Todd says this involves creating a culture centered around using data to understand company goals, automating high-volume tasks, promoting cross-functional collaboration, and embracing an experimental mindset. Prioritize self-service to free up time and energy: By providing customers with a range of self-service options, such as chatbots and in-product help, Product-Led companies offer a better user experience and reduce support volume. This time and energy saved, can be put towards other areas of the business for improvements and meeting customers needs.    Grab this week's Checklist    Check out RunRevenue.Pro for tips, playbooks, and advice for stopping revenue leak and achieving revenue precision.    See how Clari's Revenue Platform can help you win more deals, protect your customer base, and achieve revenue precision—even in a downturn.  → Clari.com

Product-Led Growth is one of the hottest topics and trends in the B2B SaaS industry. Heading into 2023, most company will be evaluating their usage of every SaaS tool, and as a vendor understanding how customers are using your product is foundational to understanding and forecast customer retention metrics.Todd Olso founded Pendo, the leading Product Analytics solution provider, over 9 years ago. His vision was to combine product analytics and product utilization to enhance the user experience.Todd highlighted that as "software eats the world" the Pendo customer base has expanded far beyond software companies to mainstream industries such as retail. The first macro industry term we discussed was "Product-Led Growth". Todd re-framed the question to be a "product-centric" company and that product-led growth is just one aspect of a company's culture. Todd explained that when selling to highly regulated industries like governmental entities, that product-centric may be more about enhancing the user's experience in a digital-led model, even though the sale of the product was executed by and with humans.Todd highlighted the phrase "is this a feature or a bug". The context of the phrase is that when the user experience requires a human being to train users, this is a bug that needs to be fixed by being a product-led company.Pendo has recently launched a "product-led certification course", to teach professionals, including product managers and any other leader looking to learn more about how to introduce product-led concepts into their company. We pivoted to the concept of the Chief Product Officer (CPO) and their role in a product-centric organization. The CPO should own the strategic goals of how the product directly drives the company strategy and goals including how to connect the product to market/customer needs.Todd's personal belief is that a product-led company requires having both a Chief Technical Officer and a Chief Product Officer. The primary difference is the CTO is more conservative and focuses on the "-bilities" of technical products while the CPO is looking for strategic growth advantages that have a higher risk profile. This differentiation provides a healthy friction between the two different primary goals. If you are currently using a product-centric, customer facing process, or considering a product-led growth strategy, this conversation with Todd Olson, Founder, and CEO of Pendo is a great listen!

If you adopt a product-led growth model, will that take jobs away from your salespeople? The answer may surprise you. Today's guest, Todd Olson, says that a PLG strategy and optimization will allow space for salespeople to become much more effective and efficient. Todd is co-founder and CEO of Pendo, a platform that accelerates and deepens software product adoption. He's also the author of the book, “The Product-Led Organization: Drive Growth By Putting Product at the Center of Your Customer Experience.” In today's episode, Todd says when companies utilize all of what product-led growth has to offer, then they will become much more efficient, communicative, and better at adapting to the ever-changing digital landscape. Press play to hear Todd's thoughts on…Creating a Holistic User Experience“Within a product team, there needs to be really, really good communication because the last thing you want is like some growth team trying to drive people top of funnel in and convert them while another team is trying to do self-service and somehow they collide and they're just constantly messaging users all the time and just confusing them. So there needs to be this more holistic kind of user journey idea to make sure that whatever the user's seeing is just an overarching stitched-together experience.”Keep Experimenting Until You Nail It“If it's a feature in your product that is very differentiating, that you believe sets you apart from everyone else and you believe it's one of the core reasons that people use your product, that's one where I think there's really value in driving a lot of experimentation. There's value in collecting feedback. There's value in not only shipping it, but then leaving space in your roadmap for what we call fast feedback or follow up work, where we iterate for potentially sprints, months, quarters, until we feel like we've nailed it.”

Four years ago, I spoke with Todd Olson, millionaire CEO and co-founder of software development platform Pendo - the man on a mission to elevate the world's experiences with software. The serial entrepreneur famously teamed up with product leaders and technologists from Red Hat, Cisco, and Google to launch Pendo in October 2013. Fast forward to 2022, and Pendo has gone on to raise $356 million in venture capital, land more than 2,300 customers, and employ 900 people across seven offices around the globe. Pendo also landed on the Forbes Cloud 100 and Inc. Best Workplaces lists for the fourth year in a row in 2021. Todd returns to Tech Talks Daly to share further insights around the recently released fourth annual State of Product Leadership Report. We explore trends impacting product management, the evolution of the Product Manager role, and how Europe is faring in terms of product-led digital transformation. Todd also talks about how he used his knowledge of the digital economy to help community banks meet surge of demand for online services and encourage schools to make the most out of their educational software throughout the height of the pandemic.

Our guest in this 30th interview episode with a unicorn start-up leader is the CEO and co-founder of Chainalysis, Michael Gronager. Founded in 2014, Chainalysis is a blockchain data platform. It provides data, software, services, and research to government agencies, exchanges, financial institutions, and insurance and cybersecurity companies in over 70 countries. Their Chainalysis's data powers investigation, compliance, and its market intelligence software has been used to solve some of the world's most high-profile criminal cases and grow consumer access to cryptocurrency safely. The company reached unicorn status in 2021 and is now valued at $8.6 billion.   Ever since Michel Gronager was a kid, he saw himself as an innovator. He started his entrepreneurial journey, before co-founding Chainalysis, as the co-founder of Kraken, a digital asset platform and prior to this, he had a decade of experience in working on big data projects. He points out that the first thing he looked at when finishing university was virtual reality, and distributed computing platforms to do virtual reality. That led him to data, which ended up being his passion, because at the end of the day “data is growing way faster than anything else, and the opportunity of analysing that is huge.”  Gronager analysed data for high-energy physics and big science projects such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. When he stopped working in the public sector, he was bitten by this innovation bug to build something himself and have a private company. At the same time, he stumbled upon crypto, and at a moment when the industry was transforming and growing rapidly, Kraken's Jesse Powell asked him to join the team. It became clear to him that there was a path forward with his expertise in big data, so he created a company that didn't exist at the time, with a fresh idea: indexing and understanding all the data that is in the crypto space as it is growing, and this is where Chainalysis began.  The cryptocurrency sector is a peculiar one, where everything changes constantly, says Chainalysis's CEO. There is a vast amount of innovation happening around crypto, so it means that his company must be deep in the product side and be constantly innovating and spending their efforts in building the right tools and products around the DeFi space. At the same time, another peculiarity of the crypto space is that it's global. As Michael states, “crypto is everywhere and was born being global”. This also means, for a company like his, that they need to focus not on one market or one jurisdiction but work and think globally.   One of the things that changed when the company reached unicorn status back in 2021 is that it allowed him to make certain high-profile hires that would have been hard to make otherwise. Unicorn status “opened the door for talent”, he says, and this is important in a quite crowded space as technology. But Chainalysis has a couple of unique aspects that have helped them differentiate over the years. First, what they're building is unique, so they're not one of many. They're building the market for themselves and growing the TAM every day and working with new customers.   Secondly, their business is very mission driven. What joins their public sector clients, more than 150 in 35 countries around the world, is that they're trying to keep society safe, keep nations-state safe, and protect these from terrorists and other negative actors. They need to ensure they're gaining the trust of these institutions, and a huge part of their culture is believing in their work and delivering high-quality data while maintaining humility and building trustworthy relationships with all stakeholders and customers. Staff at Chainalysis have a purpose because they see that getting better at understanding crypto and indexing it, could make the world a better place.   Michael highlights that there are many individuals who have had an impact on him as a leader, including Todd Olson from Tyto-client Pendo, and Manny Medina at Outreach. His greatest strength, he says, has been prioritising empathy and “trying to understand the problems in a business, and the problems that the individuals are trying to solve.” He also believes that this skillset has a lot to do with communication, not about trying to understand all the different areas of the business, as he's no expert in areas such as sales or in a product function at the scale that they have today. But he can talk to the people there and build relevant connections, and that's a crucial asset in managing and leading a business.  He also points out that he has always enjoyed communicating, and admits has his own style. He's much better at improvising than at preparing, as his communications style is best suited to improvisation rather than practice. If he were able to go back in time, he says, he would speak to his old self and tell himself that “when you communicate, you need to overcommunicate.” Looking at things from a different perspective is important, and in any communicational exchange you need to understand that the receiver might have a different viewpoint. “When you say it three times, you probably need to say it three times again after that”, states Michael. The company now has more than 700 employees, and he still does onboarding himself once a month and has weekly office hours where people can ask questions or simply come and chat to him. These types of strategies are vital to the successful growth of a company.   The interview, as usual, was co-hosted with Russell Goldsmith of the csuite podcast.  We have distilled the most valuable, actionable insights from our first 15 interviews with leaders of unicorn companies and bottled them in our book ‘Growing without borders: The unicorn CEO guide to communication and culture'. Every company wants to grow their market. But in order to expand into another region, one corner of the market has to be secured first. Only from this position of utility and stability can a business secure other territories. Todd Olson, the CEO of Pendo, explains his strategy.Main TakeawaysCreating a New Product Market: Many companies disrupt a current market. It's another category altogether to create a new product market. Although it's a great problem to have with a ton of upside, one area of focus must be on educating prospective buyers. Of course, having an effective product that's easy to implement is the best pitch. Pendo was able to provide its software product to businesses easily and without involving developers. This helped give Pendo a foot in the door to prove what it could do.Strategizing for Future Growth: Pendo's plans for growth are educative. One side of the approach is to continue to sell current products to new markets; both nationally and internationally. The other side is to develop new products that will further benefit existing customers. Furthermore, it's intriguing how Pendo's product has moved from SaaS B2B clients to other arenas as those individuals who've used the product have moved into different industries and brought Pendo with them.Representing Raleigh: Finding and retaining top talent is a concern for many businesses today. Pendo has an interesting angle because it is located in Raleigh, North Carolina. In Raleigh, there's natural beauty, a low cost of living, and also access to the talent coming out of many of the colleges and universities in the region. Although Pendo is based in Raleigh, it has offices in New York and San Francisco to utilize the talent in those areas as well.IT Visionaries is brought to you by the Salesforce Platform - the #1 cloud platform for digital transformation of every experience. Bishops should get a consent form to be able to get information from the therapist about how the therapy is going. 15:30 How do bishops find a good therapist? Steve describes the different types of therapists and specialities. 26:18 Don't refer a person to an agency. Refer them to a specific person. LDS Family Services is a great resource but it's an agency. 30:00 It can be difficult to find a good therapist. However, therapists like to work with people that like to do the work. Reach out to the therapist you want to go to and show them that you are willing and ready to do the work. It might be worth it to get on a waiting list for a really good therapist. 34:40 What do you do with people that don't want to do the work? The only thing you can do is invite. 36:55 Steve's recommendation to all bishops is to have the person pay for at least part of the sessions, even if it's only five dollars. 40:20 Two questions to ask your therapist. Make sure they are doing the work too and putting what they teach into practice. Do you currently go to therapy or have you been to therapy? What are you currently getting trained in? 41:30 Leaders are carrying the burdens and the huge weight of the ward. Bishops and other leaders should also be getting therapy. Steve challenges all bishops to find a good therapist and do at least three sessions. 43:20 How can a leader begin to understand the resources for intensive therapy? It can be very expensive but much more effective in some situations. 52:00 Steve explains value systems.
