We finally got out to see Robert Eggers' Nosferatu, and though the theater experience was not necessarily the best, we were still thrilled with this rendition of the classic vampire. We talk about the differences between Nosferatu and Dracula, the history of vampire lore, and then dive deep into what's on screen with conversations about the infamous first meeting with Count Orlock, how Eggers explores his own themes, and a lot more. We're also drinking Treehouse Brewing's Your Mosh Cherished Future Memories Are Happening Right Now, a double IPA with Riwaka and Citra hops.

“On victory, you deserve beer, in defeat, you need it.” —Napoleon In this US Rugby Happy Hour Tap Room episode, Bill & John introduce a new beer and brewery to their listeners! Don't worry, these breweries don't sponsor the show… so it's game on! I mean, if they wanted to, we're willing to take one for the team… or many.

Prost mein degenerates! This week we touch ourselves and create spicy burning on our no-no zone. I'm not sure we even know what long winded means anymore but we'll keep saying it anyway. Please tell us who your favorite murder was, we're dying to know. Also why is it OJ? Owning a craft brewery has never been tougher, and nobody knows this better than Kelly Meyer. The former owner of New Braunfels Brewery in Texas for a decade, Kelly sold the company in 2021 and through his struggles and frustrations wrote a book called How Not To Start a Damn Brewery. This turned into a podcast where he interviews breweries who have closed or are struggling in order to pull out the learnings from the various failures, as there is inevitably more to learn from failure than success. Kelly and Cee spoke about his brewery ownership journey, the struggle to land guests for his podcast, the current craft beer landscape and where it could go in future, and his plans for a follow-up book based on all the wisdom obtained via the pod. They both drank beers from breweries that they felt were doing things right, including Godspeed's Sklepnik, Tree House's Super Cachet and Barncat Artisan Ales Cuvée Matt & Jeremy on Cee's side, and Yokefellow Ilk, Russian River Peach Beer 2022, and Hair of the Dog Matt 2022 on Kelly's side. We're doing a double-feature of Ari Aster flicks, and the one we're starting with is 2019's Midsommar! This folk horror tale about a bad breakup is surely inspired by The Wicker Man, but Aster goes above and beyond with a sprawling tale or cultural rituals that draws from historical fact. We talk about the film's pacing, its metaphors on grief and empathy, the realistic gore, and that gut-punching opening sequence. Robin Black's crushing collection "If I loved You, I'd Tell You This" is the subject of this cast as we dive into her title story. Notions of love and how we spend or share it are explored along with the the very real notion that god might be fiction himself. Canadian punks White Lung give us the record for this one with their second album "Sorry". A truly excellent under 20-minute onslaught of the best Bikini Kill inspired hardcore one could imagine. Unfortunately Apple Music fucked Daniel's copy of the album so he has very little to contribute. Lastly, Nick M. drinks a White Claw with tequila while Daniel has his standby Guinness and Gregorio once again gets the marque with Tree House Brewing's "Spring". This one felt really good. Perhaps the Nick's had more than a few minutes of sleep the night before. CHEERS!
The Bums dive into Side A of Episode 0049 (sans NFL Football…**wipes tear**) with talk of the International Olympic Committee side-eyeing those sneaky Russians (too little, too late); MLB baseball is officially fucked, as greedy owners cannot get their shit together in time for opening day festivities; Derek “Respect” Jeter packs his bags in Florida; Grayson “Dirty Pool” Allen makes an inauspicious return to the NBA floor by way of Chicago; and the L.A. Lakers suck a bag of d*cks, sharing their traits with THE Ohio State SuckEyes, as Eddie shares his emotions courtesy of the Schadenfreude Report; the Bums review a rough weekend for the BIG Ten in NCAA hoops ; March Madness tourney bubble teams are reviewed, and Paddy begrudgingly backslides into a BlackHawkEye game.Side B kicks off with another world-famous beer review, from the barrels of Tree House Brewing and their ‘Haze' creation (ABV 8.2%), a “big boy” Double IPA with tones of orange, peach and papaya with a bitter finish; Eddie is selling Rubles on the cheap, as talk turns to geo-political events in the Ukraine; the SOTU is divisive AF; the tradition of Lent is upon us (and nobody gives a shit); Rocky runs a stone-in-my-shoe segment to ground with a discussion around millennials behind the wheel of motor vehicles; Eddie conducts Day 1 of Trout/Salmon Filet Boot Camp for PFC Rocky, as he prepares himself for an Alaskan fly fishing adventure. Recorded on March 4th, 2022 at B.O.M.'s global headquarters ‘East Bunker' in Chicago, IL USA.
The Bums start part one of Episode 0048 crying in their beer over the end of 2022 NFL football, but not before reviewing post season landing spots for former Chicago Bear staffers Ryan Pace, Matt Nagy and possibly a former #1 Draft pick, as well as other key moves around the NFL; talk shifts to NBA basketball and the absolute sham that is the NBA All Star game; Paddy's Xavier Musketeers take a Top 10 team to triple OT; while Juwan Howard sits in the penalty box for the remainder of the regular season due to a dust-up at the end of the Wisconsin vs. Michigan game (Rocky's hot take may not be so popular); NCAA's March Madness slowly starts to take form, as conference championships start next soon; MLB baseball unlikely to start on-time, and Eric Kay's culo is muy, muy itchio (find out why and more). Part two starts with another world-famous (exception: Australia) beer review, thanks to Boston Dough's creativeness procuring another creation from Tree House Brewing in his home state of MA — “Hello Cape Cod” an amazing American IPA that drinks like an ass-kicker but weighs in at 6.7% ABV; the Bums get two global topics out of the way (CDC Guidelines are changing amongst mixed emotions & Fuckface Vlad Putin invades a sovereign nation — the Bums stand with Ukraine); a local Chicago brewery, Twisted Hippo, goes down for the count at the hands of a fire — and close with a shout-out to fellow podcasters “Beerly Football”.Recorded on February 25th, 2022 at B.O.M.'s global headquarters ‘East Bunker' in Chicago, IL USA.
