Martin Campbell is a filmmaker known for directing two acclaimed James Bond films, GOLDENEYE and CASINO ROYALE. He gained recognition in British television with REILLY: ACE OF SPIES and the BAFTA-winning EDGE OF DARKNESS. His Hollywood career includes hits like THE MASK OF ZORRO and VERTICAL LIMIT. Renowned for his dynamic action sequences and ability to revitalize franchises, Campbell played a key role in launching Daniel Craig's Bond era. His most recent film, CLEANER, follows a group of radical activists as they take over an energy company's annual gala, seizing 300 hostages in order to expose the corruption of the hosts. Their just cause is hijacked by an extremist within their ranks, who is ready to murder everyone in the building to send his anarchic message to the world. It falls to an ex-soldier turned window cleaner, played by Ridley, suspended 50 stories up on the outside of the building, to save those trapped inside, including her younger brother. In this interview, we talk about his experience directing the James Bond films, his new film CLEANER, the evolution of villains in film, working with Jackie Chan on THE FOREIGNER, and much more. For a movie that A) made $215,000,000, B) played on HBO virtually every day for three years, and C) came free with the purchase of most DVD players, this mountain climbing flick is virtually forgotten. And the critics weren't all that nice to it either. But my guest Sarah Bea Milner (@sarahbeamilner) remembers this movie quite fondly indeed. Thanks for listening to Overhated! This week, your friends Count Vardulon and DM watch two movies set on K2, the savage mountain. K2 is more tense drama than action movie but it's still totally worth your time. Vertical Limit is all action and probably not worth your time if we're being honest. Tune in for a video game recommendation, and stay to find out what DM is watching on TV.
Cheerio. Rocket Beans wird unterstützt von Tchibo.

Life is short, too short. So you gotta use every moment. Fall (2022) tells the story of Becky, a climbing hobbyist who has descended into a deep depression following the death of her partner one year earlier--no prizes for guessing what happened to him. Becky's friend Hunter knows there's only one thing that can break Becky out of her funk, and that's coercing her into climbing a rickety 2000ft radio tower in the middle of the desert with no support and without telling anyone their plans. What could possibly go wrong? We discuss an absolutely textbook 'My First Horror' film, a classic tale of bad friends behaving badly, an update on the recent misadventures of YouTubers, and the dignity of stuffing a shoe into your friends abdomen in the name of survival. Plus, an update on our Vertical Limit episode--would Joe still free climb a crane for £1million? All of which leads to one question: How would you survive? Whatever happens, one thing's for sure: Don't you wanna punch fear in the dick? Next month on the How to Survive podcast, it's 'Monkeys Running The Zoo' season, in which our lovely patrons choose the films we cover. Keep your eyes peeled!

Tenacious D may have climbed K2, but after watching this movie, we don't think you'll want to! There are intergovernmental politics to navigate, and weather so severe it would make a dwarf from the Iron Hills think twice before venturing out. Not to mention more than its share of awkward romances and helicopter sequences that last far... FAR longer than they need to. Yep, this one has something for everyone. Vertical Limit was released in 2000 and stars Chris O'Donnell, Bill Paxton, Robin Tunney, Izabella Scurupco, and Augie Davis. The CineMEH Podcast is a Slyjack Media LLC production.

High Complexity, Low CommodityOnline experiences have become more commoditized over time; low and no-code platforms have displaced the need for a “developer,” and instead require feature configurations and tweaksSoftware development thrives where experiences have high complexity. High complexity often means that there are no de facto “standards” or best practices that need to be employed. This requires developers to build, test, refine, and iterate. This is the best-case scenario for a developer in eCommerce.eCommerce platforms have become increasingly prescriptive in UI and UX as customers have become “used to” certain purchasing patternsEcommerce needs to become more complex in certain industry verticals. Specific sectors such as automotive, food, furniture, manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals all have sophisticated requirements, complicated purchase paths, long consideration times, unique regulatory requirements, or other challenges that make them a poor fit for off-the-shelf software, but a great fit for developer innovation.A shopper's identity in high-commodity environments is tied to the retailer. You're not a grocery shopper, you're a Walmart shopper or a Target shopper. However, in high-complexity environments, the identity of the shopper is found in the brand of the product itself. You're not a car driver, you're a Tesla driver.Associated Links:Learn more about Boris Lokschin and SprykerCheck out Excite 2022, Spryker's eCommerce Conference in June
Chris and I wrap ourselves in the warm blanket of dumb fun. Looney Tunes nitro glycerin, the greenest of screens, and a rant about film critics sure to win me no friends.
Give us the dex! So…why are we here? We're here because of Lindsey's weird obsession with this too-long Y2K action flick about summiting K2. Lindsey explores her mountain-climbing dreams; Leah explores her dreams of climbing Chris O'Donnell. And then, much like in the movie, there's lots of heavy breathing and absolutely zero sex. Because, unfortunately for all of us, there's no sex in the death zone.
This week Zach and Sloane unwrap 2000 American survival thriller: Vertical Limit. This is a classic Mummy Dearest film because the tropes are plentiful. This movie has it all: falling through a crevasse, dangling from a cliff by a snow pick, explosives being detonated via sunlight, rich billionaires getting their comeuppance, dying wives, dying fathers, broken bones and frostbite stumps! It's truly something to behold! Listen as Zach and Sloane talk about why it's important to never leave your home and why you certainly should not climb Everest on this week's episode of Mummy Dearest! Support the show
This week the boys sit down with their buddy Cam Janzen aka Slōwhei to talk a little about politics… just kidding! It's guitar, duh! It should be a point of pride for any filmmaker who can be credited for “saving” a cinematic franchise. However, Martin Campbell sits in the singular position of having achieved this twice: when the James Bond franchise awoke from a six-year hiatus where there was no longer a Cold War to fight, and the interest in the character was uncertain, Campbell introduced the world to Pierce Brosnan in 1995's “GoldenEye,” which went on to be a smash hit at the box office, and remains frequently cited as a fan favorite Bond film. The exact same can be said of 2006's “Casino Royale,” which rebooted the series, solidified that a Bond film can be many different things, made Daniel Craig a cinematic icon, and was as much of a hit at the box office and among fans as any of the best Bond films. Campbell, a New Zealand native, came up in London as a television director in the ‘70s, including credits on five episodes of the crime-action drama “The Professionals.” His best-known work, however, came in 1985 with the massively acclaimed miniseries “Edge of Darkness,” starring Bob Peck and Joanne Whalley. Still to this day regarded as one of the greatest pieces of British television ever aired, “Edge of Darkness” earned Campbell the BAFTA TV Award for Best Director. Campbell also helmed one of the great episodes of American television with the first season “Homicide: Life on the Street” episode “Three Men and Adena.” Since “GoldenEye,” Campbell has maintained a steady resume of work in film, from “The Mask of Zorro,” to “Vertical Limit,” to a 2010 American adaptation of “Edge of Darkness.” Campbell's latest film, “The Protégé,” stars Maggie Q as Anna, an assassin raised by another killer, Moody (Samuel L. Jackson). After her mentor and surrogate father is killed, Anna tracks down Rembrandt (Michael Keaton) to avenge his death, in the process confronting her own history as a killer. Campbell discussed his latest action thriller, which is in cinemas now, as well as what keeps the director going after more than 40 years directing action sequences that always feel like they're something new. Given that he is also the de facto master of introducing a new Bond to audiences, and with Daniel Craig's swan song, “No Time to Die,” on the horizon, we had to get Campbell's thoughts on what the next Bond could look like, and what type of scenarios he might be placed in today. During our interview with Martin Campbell, we dive deep into the propulsive fight sequences that “The Protégé” revels in, how the director utilized Bulgaria as a facsimile for the streets of Vietnam, and more! “The Protégé” is in theaters now. Get Rec'd returns in a big way this week, with a whopping one hour segment chock full of movie talk, and a very disturbing realization about actor Nick Stahl's past. We're discussing Without Remorse, gushing over Harrison Ford's tenure as Jack Ryan, and debating whether or not 'generic' is an insult when it comes to film reviews. More than 10 years ago I woke up the day I was supposed to go to Tony Robbins and wanted to change my mind. My mom and I registered for Tony Robbins UPW (Unleash the Power Within) and I hit an upper limit and was looking for any and all reasons NOT TO GO. I was using the tools against myself. I thought that “it was a sign” that I shouldn't go. Well...we chose to go, and thank God we did. My life got better. This episode is all about how those dang Upper Limits can kill your dreams and how to be aware of them when they show up and disguise themself as “a tool”. They are not a tool to help you...they are aware of an upper limit. In this episode:You will discover what an upper limit can look like I explain how we can use the tools we learn against ourselves and our dreams. You will learn how we talk ourselves out of creating more for our lives when we hit an upper limit. PUBLIC VERSION. Actor and Director Alexander Siddig (GAME OF THRONES, 24, STAR TREK; DEEP SPACE NINE, CLASH OF THE TITANS) virtually joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss his career journey. From a theater obsessed boy with his heart set on one day directing opera… to finding himself as a beloved character in the STAR TREK universe (“Doctor Bashir” on DEEP SPACE NINE) where he'd star in a whopping 173 episodes… to his chance directing episodes of the science fiction television epic (wait til you hear Alexander's story about the curve ball he was thrown!)… to his roles in massive blockbusters like VERTICAL LIMIT, KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, SYRIANA, DOOMSDAY, CLASH OF THE TITANS, 21 BRIDGES, and his most recent science fiction thriller SKYLINES (available now!)… Alexander's career is one as legendary as the characters he has portrayed. Dr. Arwen provides “Hollywood Therapy” for a patient suffering from Imposter Syndrome and Alexander admits that he didn't quite know what was happening all of the time on GAME OF THRONES either in this fantastic conversation that flew by all too quickly. This conversation first aired during YORKIETHON 5 on Saturday December 19, 2020 as part of THE MOVIE CRYPT's annual 48-hour LIVE marathon to benefit Save A Yorkie Rescue.
See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Mark and Tom discuss the underappreciated action film Vertical Limit. Released in 2000, and directed by Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale, The Mask of Zorro), this worldwide hit focuses on people making very bad decisions while attempting to climb K2. In this episode, Mark and Tom discuss Mountain Dew colored explosives, massive jumps and the greatness of Bill Paxton. Enjoy!
Join us as Alex and Rebecca tell you the story of Noah's Ark - and chat about some Premier League and FA Cup football too. Alex might be having legitimate nightmares about Liverpool losing games but in reality the team just keep winning. In the Premier League, a spirited Southampton played well but still lost 4-0 and after all the furore over the FA Cup replay vs Shrewsbury Town, the kids went and won it anyway. We delve into all the big talking points, including Salah's form, more Henderson and Alisson brilliance, and who's really devaluing the FA Cup. Meanwhile, Manchester City dropped more points against Tottenham Hotspur to send LFC 22 clear at the top. We chat about Mourinho besting Pep again, Raheem Sterling's form, Steven Bergwijn's great debut, and how Man City's dropoff could affect them in the Champions League. Chelsea and Leicester City played out a cracking 2-2 draw but Frank Lampard has some serious Willy problems after dropping Kepa Arrizabalaga. Does Lampard have man management issues, where does Antonio Rudiger rank amongst the best defenders, and who should Chelsea be most worried about in the battle for fourth place? We also tackle Mike Dean's moment of glory, VAR madness in Spain, Neymar vs refs, another twist in the relegation battle, Man Utd giving us the craziest Transfer Deadline Day in a while, and an impromptu 'Around The World' as we find ourselves discussing Juventus, BVB, PSG and Barcelona. Plus, Nonce FC, helicopter celebrations, the dirty sponge, Trent's tastes, disagreeing with your anus, soiled nappies, expelliarmus-Ings the opposition, punching yourself in the face, poppycock and balderdash, and an extended analogy about the movie Vertical Limit. **Please take the time to rate and review us on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts, as it makes it easier for other potential listeners to find us. It's episode 144... and above 24,000, you're at the vertical limit, you're already dying. Look at you. You can hardly stand. If you think you can stop me, go ahead. Vertical Limit (2000) tells the story of Peter and Annie, a brother and sister who find themselves atop K2 some years after they were involved in a climbing accident which killed their father. Now bad luck has befallen them again, and Annie is trapped in an avalanche near the summit, and it's up to Peter to lead a team to save her. We discuss the worst prepared disaster recovery team in history; how the dangers of smoking increase massively around explosives and at high altitude; and above all, how this movie represents the worst survival odds in the history of disaster recovery. Whatever happens, one thing's for sure: Nag, nag, nag. They always bloody nag. Another classic film solved by the best movie podcast in the world. Oktober).
