As we transition a return to school, I offer you an interview with Riley McMitchell, a Vancouver, BC elementary school principal. We share a passion for Adaptive Schools work and Cognitive Coaching as part of our leadership identity and it was certainly a pleasure interviewing him. Before his formal role in leadership, Riley has been a curriculum coordinator, mentor teacher, and elementary teacher.  Riley has presented across Canada and the United States on both instructional leadership and equity for LGBTQ2+ communities. He is a former board member of BC Learning Forward and a recent graduate of the Transformative Education Leadership Program at UBC. He is currently serving as the Director of Leadership and Learning for the Vancouver Elementary Principals and Vice-Principal's Association. Prior to becoming an educator, Riley sang opera professionally and still performs occasionally in his spare time. Currently in his role as school principal, Riley nurtures caring communities through creativity and collaboration.  While my episodes have not been as consistent as I hoped, I continue to endeavour to highlight the importance of one's leadership identity to be effective in today's complex educational systems. I also continue to promote the work of Adaptive Schools and am a Training Associate for Thinking Collaborative: https://www.thinkingcollaborative.com/aboutas  You can connect with me on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/drlucindawolters/  or through LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-lucinda-wolters-04155833/

This is very special episode of the podcast — one that's quite personal and rooted in a story that spans generations. Earlier this summer, I had the privilege of visiting Anghel Saligny Technical High School (Liceului Tehnologic Anghel Saligny) in Baia Mare, Romania — a school that holds profound meaning for my family. I was there to take part in my mother's 50th high school reunion, a beautiful moment of reflection and reconnection. But my family's connection to this school goes far beyond that. My grandfather — a respected senior leader in the field of engineering — was among the group of leading engineers who shared a vision of creating a school that developed the future talent in civil building engineering. They created a school where young people could be trained for real careers in engineering, technology, and construction — a vision that continues to shape the school today. My godparents, also respected senior leaders in engineering, taught for many years at the school, bringing their professional experience and expertise to students. Now, that legacy lives on through my godparents' daughter, Daniela Maria Deceanu, also an engineer who now serves as the Vice Principal of the school. My own passion for education has been deeply shaped by both of my grandfathers. One, an engineer with a forward-thinking mindset, believed strongly in preparing students for the workforce of the future. The other, a devoted language teacher, passed on a love for words, learning, and communication. My parents carried on their passion for learning by teaching me how to learn and instilling in me the importance of lifelong learning. Their values continue to guide me in my work and in conversations that I have on this podcast. In this episode, I sit down with Tudor Andrei Tămâian, the Principal of Anghel Saligny Technical High School, to talk about what it means to lead a vocational school in today's world. Tudor shares how the school partners with local industry, facilitates European work exchange programs, and helps students gain practical, hands-on experience. We also talk about the school's impressive track record at skills olympics and professional competitions, where students consistently prove the power of applied education. This conversation is about leadership, vision, and the future of vocational learning. Tudor Andrei Tămâian is the Principal of Anghel Saligny Technical High School (Liceul Tehnologic Anghel Saligny) in Baia Mare, Romania. He is a highly dedicated professional with a strong academic background in Economics (B.A.), Business Administration, and Human Rights (M.A.). With over 15 years of experience as an educator and four years as a high school principal, Tudor also brings valuable insights from previous roles in sales and financial services, particularly in credit and banking. As a school leader, he promotes a collaborative and open management style that values communication, teamwork, and a positive work environment. His decisions are always student-centred, aiming to improve both the learning experience and student outcomes. Passionate about sharing knowledge and values with younger generations, Tudor is committed to being part of a mission-driven team focused on reducing school dropout rates and increasing the number of students who successfully complete their high school education. He strongly believes in education as a powerful tool for building better futures. Anghel Saligny Technical High School (Liceul Tehnologic Anghel Saligny) https://www.asalignybm.tpsvision.ro

Hey Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of She's A Small Wonder: A Small Wonder Podcast. Today, I covered S4E9: My Favorite Martian, which aired on November 19, 1988. In this episode Brandon sees Vicki's hologram of an alien spaceship. Just Brandon being a massive dum dum per usual. The family decides to have fun with him by using Vicki to pretend she's an alien, after Brandon alerts (what I refer to thanks to the show ALF) as the ATF (Alien Task Force) to investigate this strange phenomenon. Vicki the alien tells Brandon that if he says he never saw any spaceship than her kind will make him King of their planet, he of course buys this charade and pretends he didn't see anything. Weird episode, but a bit better than the other 3. S4E10: Mommie Dearest, which aired on November 26,1988. In this episode, Joan's father comes for a visit, and Ida Mae decides he's going to be her next husband, since he's a doctor and she's a money hungry be-otch. I could not stand this episode or Ida Mae, this character does not need to exist on this show at ALL! S4E11: No Laughing Matter, which aired on December 4, 1988. In this episode Vicki leaks nitrous oxide ( we don't see this until the last 10 minutes of the episode, Jamie teaches for a week ( we don't get to see any of him teaching just the after effects of the kids failing the test (what a cop-out, I know we weren't going to get Cory/'Mr. Feeny level Teacher of the Week episode), but honestly it would have been nice to actually see him teach. S4E12: Tag, You're It, which aired on December 11, 1988. Ok, so this episode must have been filmed earlier because Jamie's already been in school for a while and now it's talking about the first day of 8th grade and also Harriet is now going to his school because she skipped a grade and is now in 6th grade (I call bullsh*t on this). Jamie's trying to get this valley girl speaking airhead of a girl to ask him to the dance ( I swear most of the girl's he's been into this season all have that (like whatever valley girl tone to their dialogue) it's grating on my nerves. It's basically a Sadie Hawkins dance where the girls ask the boys or (according to Full House a Backwards Dance)> Harriet makes it her mission to get Jamie to take her she just has to tag him (you know, like the game). Vicki is made the Hall Monitor giving out demerits to the students thanks to the new Vice Principal played by Marcia Wallace known for her role of Ms. Krabappel on The Simpsons. As far as these episodes go, they were all that good, not too surprising, since it's the last Season of the show. Have a good April and I'll see you towards the end of the month for the next 4 episodes in Season 4.

There's a stunning transformation that happens to Edi Patterson when she puts on the aggressively curly haired wig for her character on ‘The Righteous Gemstones.' “Something different happens to the makeup of my atoms, once I get Judy's hair on,” Patterson says in this week's episode. “Because I do really feel like she's a living person who's inside of me, and I just get to unleash her and turn it up.” Without the wig, the Groundlings alum is nearly unrecognizable—and her real-life persona is far less unhinged than the sex-crazed evangelical Christian she plays on ‘The Righteous Gemstones,' which just began its fourth and final season on HBO. Patterson, who also writes for ‘Righteous Gemstones,' discusses keeping the season premiere's massive cameo a secret, her alternative casting idea for that episode, getting “weird” with guest star Megan Mullally later in the season, and how Judy and her on-screen siblings—series creator Danny McBride and Adam Devine—have evolved over time. She also looks back on her very brief experience as a writer on ‘Saturday Night Live,' the shocking line she ad-libbed during her original audition with McBride for their previous show ‘Vice Principals,' and what it's really like to improvise opposite Larry David on ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm.' The Breakfast Club, directed by John Hughes, is a classic teen drama that takes place over the course of a single Saturday detention at Shermer High School. The film follows five students from vastly different social cliques. The five classes include the criminal, the princess, the jock, the nerd and the basket case. Being overseen by an angry Vice Principal, the 5 students start to learn they have more in common than they realize. This week, Rob, Dave and Kurt will dissect the movie and look at all of their favorite parts. They agree, mostly disagree, and probably say several inappropriate things. The film is celebrating its 40 year anniversary and is considered an 80's teen movie classic. The film is known for its iconic moments, including the students' heartfelt confessions, dance sequence, and the famous closing shot of Bender raising his fist in the air. The Breakfast Club captures the complexity of teenage identity and remains a defining film of the 1980s.   Pandora: https://pandora.app.link/iq8iShjXOLb   Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/totally-80s-and-90s-recall/id1662282694    Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/11dk5TUoLUk4euD1Te1EYG?si=b37496eb6e784408    Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/1960c8f9-158d-43ac-89a6-d868ea1fe077/totally-80s-and-90s-recall    YouTube Podcasts: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLH9lGakNgCDZUkkHMUu88uXYMJu_33Rab&si=xo0EEVJRSwS68mWZ   Contact Us: Website: https://totally80s90srecall.podbean.com/  Email: 80s90srecall@gmail.com LinkTree:https://linktr.ee/80s90srecall

Christ-following Principals, Vice Principals, Guidance Counselors, and office staff within the public school system serve in a massive mission field.  So many in their profession have been misguided and deceived to believe that God has no place in the public schools and that in fact, He does not exist.  The religion taught in our public schools today is humanism – a religion as old as Noah.  We celebrate those believers who venture off to their public school administrative jobs today.  Take heart, you are not alone, and God has not been kicked out of the public schools because YOU ARE THERE, and He is there in YOU.  Maybe you are listening today and feel called to join your brothers and sisters in this challenging mission field.  Great.  You are desperately needed on the mission field of the public school system.  Never underestimate the power of obedience in a believer's heart to respond to God's call.

Alright, folks, buckle up! Today's podcast episode is brought to you by the one, the only, Hawk—who, let's be honest, may need an intervention for his microphone. It's loose again, people. If this podcast had a production budget, that mic would have gone the way of Trump's dietitian—a distant memory! After struggling to find a topic that wasn't dark or depressing, Hawk did the sensible thing: he outsourced his job to the internet. Why spend time planning your show when you can let TikTok and Patreon comments drive your content? The man's living the dream, folks! And what did his highly intellectual audience request? The riveting tale of how Hawk adopted Tanner, a Chihuahua-dachshund who picked him like a desperate kid picking his parents at a divorce hearing. Some woman who looked like she wandered off Real Housewives of Beverly Hills tried to snatch Tanner away, but the dog sprinted into Hawk's lap. That's right—straight-up rejected reality TV for a life of podcasting mediocrity. Enter Lola, another dog from the same shelter because clearly, Hawk's building a rescue dog cinematic universe here. But hold on, Hawk veered into weather reports that make CNN look calm. And, as any responsible adult would, he followed up storm devastation with tales of totaling cars as a teenager. You know, like a public service announcement but with more vehicular damage. Kids, don't fall asleep at the wheel, or worse—you'll end up paddled by your Mormon vice principal. Just trust me, Hawk's high school life was like a bad crossover between Fast & Furious and Fast Times at Ridgemont High… except with fewer cool stunts and more cringe-worthy life lessons. MicrowaveIt wasn't deliberate, not really, the impulse instead had struck him, a microburst, waiting for the countdown. The lunchroom buzzed, indifferent, as he opened the door to the cafeteria's microwave and without a glance of the tattered paperback, placed it on glass carousel. The cover? Irrelevant. Closing the door with a refreshing catch, a gift for someone next to find he thought as he walked away with his lunch to his friends. Trailing through the clamor of voices and plastic trays to where his friends sat, slouched and half-lost in the day's decay. He threw his bag on the bench beside him, the weight sagging his shoulder. A bite of stale pasta between lazy banter, remnants of weekend bravado. They had tried to blow up a tennis ball stuffed full with match heads—unsuccessfully, throwing it against the wall again and again until finally one of them in frustration just lit the damn thing. The ball hissed, fizzled into a seething pool of neon green ash, and a plume of black.Bell rang. Lunch dissipated into the folds of doors. Back to class. Statistics, one of the classes he enjoyed. The teacher, grey-bearded and ghostly, murmured like a dying machine, equations bleeding from his lips onto the board. Michael thumbed through the buttons on his TI-82 calculator. Drug Wars. Cocaine was always the better hustle. But even that grew tired. A few days before, a girl had slid him a note during class, asking for help on a quiz. He helped, not for kindness but for the vague promise of future payment, however intangible.Bell rang, class over. He walked to his locker, gathering the familiar weight of his AP Chemistry books. The final B schedule loomed, and he could already smell the off sweet vinegar like lab. But before he could slip into his regular rhythm, a hand clamped down on his shoulder.“Michael - I need you to come to my office.”The voice belonged to the Vice Principal.Tiny ogre of a woman in heels, short hair butch, a belly constrained in the pant grey suit, a squeezed figure of bureaucratic rot and middle age. He sighed, tugging at his own waistband as he followed her down the hall.In her office, she sat across from him, shifting awkwardly in her seat. Her small hands clutched the paperback—that paperback.“So Michael, tell me why you put this in the microwave.” Um. The moment stretched. “I don't know. I just thought it'd be funny.”“Funny? Were you trying to start a fire?”The absurdity jolted him, but only for a second. "What? No, it's just a book. I don't even think microwaves can set them on fire."His mind wandered back to the weekend. The tennis ball. The disappointment of failed destruction. Then further back, to a summer prior when the morning after a sleep over, his two friends and him collected all the spray bottles full of cleaning supplies in the house, and with a lighters fashioned little flame throwers, burned old toys into goo. Laughing over the mess, coughing thru the fumes. Oven cleaner was the best they determined."With everything happening in the world right now, we need to be careful," the Vice Principal's voice intruded, pulling him back to the sterile present. "We need to understand why."“Why what?”He didn't care about the why. The why was always the problem, wasn't it?The night before the flame fueled fun, after dinner, retreating to his friend's room to sleep, his two friends popped a video into the VCR. A borrowed relic of smut—crude and grainy, bodies flickering across the screen in imitation of an unknown life. His two friends started moving their hands under their respective blankets, They had laughed as he on the floor, recoiled. They were animals, degenerates, lost to urges he couldn't—and didn't want—to understand.“F*****s” he spat as left the room. They laughed more as he slammed the door, carried his sleeping bag into the living room downstairs. No way. Tossing the bag on to the couch, he yelled back called them gay as he stomped. They weren't either, just couldn't help themselves they said. The Vice Principal droned on. Something about concern. Something about safety. The book. The fire that could have been but wasn't. She leaned forward, a parody of empathy. "We just don't want anyone to get hurt, you understand?"“But did … anyone get hurt?”“No but—”“Anyway I got to get class.” He started to pick up his bag, started to stand. F**k her he thought. He knew she knew the real threats walked the halls every day, unnoticed and unchecked. The mushroom dealers, the stoners, the chain smokers who lingered in the bathrooms, trading answers to exams like currency, the girls who cut. And yet, here she was, fixating on him. On a book in a microwave.“Thanks Michael, let's just try to think thru how people might take things, I know you are a good kid.” She handed him a slip of paper. "Give this to your teacher. It's an excuse for being late."He took it without a word. Just a few weeks ago, a pair of goth kids dressed in trench coats half the country away killed some jocks. International news. Panic about video games, Doom and Quake, Heavy Metal and Rap, everything was a threat now. People trying to understand. Searching for signs, for explanations, for scapegoats. The school had cancelled an afternoon of classes for an all school meeting, the same ogre standing in front of the bleachers explaining and droning on. Asking if anyone had questions, or something to share. And all they could do was rearrange deck chairs on the sinking ship.He walked through the empty halls, the vinegar like smell of the lab drawing him forward. Maybe today they'd finally throw lithium into water as Mr Allen always had promised.Maybe today there would be fire.// Zero Strike Get full access to Leafbox at leafbox.substack.com/subscribe
