In honor of the conclusion of Black History Month, we air parts of a documentary from Kansas State University, called Dawn of Day: Stories of the Underground Railroad [https://youtu.be/L5c6cDCTJNY?si=Asw3p9WGrBf81_Zj], produced by Dean Mercer, Directed by Rusty Earl, and narrated by the late Richard Pitts, who was Director of the Wonder Workshop in Manhattan, Kansas. Dawn of Day is a historical documentary about the Underground Railroad in Kansas that brings to light unsung heroes who worked in secret to deliver enslaved African Americans to freedom into the free states in the north. Featured on the show today are narrator Richard Pitts, Brad Burenheide of Kansas State, Madge McDonald of the Wamego, Kansas Historical Society, and Historian Michael Stubbs, interviewed in the famed Beecher Bible and Rifle Church in Wabaunsee, Kansas. The Underground Railroad was a network of secret routes and safe houses established in the United States during the early to mid-19th century. The slaves who risked capture and those who aided them are also collectively referred to as the passengers and conductors of the "Underground Railroad.” One estimate suggests that, by 1850, approximately 100,000 slaves had escaped to freedom via the network. The most famous conductor on the Underground Railroad was Harriet Tubman. After escaping slavery, she made some 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people, including her family and friends, using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses between Maryland and Philadelphia, and after the Fugitive Slave Act of 1950, the destination was British North America, or what we know as Canada. John Brown was also prominent leader in the Abolitionist Movement, first reaching national prominence in the 1850s for his radical fighting in Bleeding Kansas, a state-level civil war over whether Kansas would enter the Union as a slave state or a free state. Brown was captured, tried, and executed by the Commonwealth of Virginia for a raid and incitement of a slave rebellion at Harpers Ferry, Virginia (today's West Virginia) in 1859, an effort that was also assisted by Harriet Tubman. Jotham, the youngest brother, delivers a powerful speech denouncing Abimelech's actions and curses him through a fable. The story culminates in Abimelech's downfall and punishment, demonstrating the consequences of ambition, greed, and treachery. The Book of Judges tells the story of Israel's descent into chaos and idolatry, and the subsequent rise of a series of judges, or redeemers, who deliver them from their enemies. The judges are flawed heroes, but they are also instruments of God's deliverance. The book ends with the Israelites in a state of moral and spiritual decay, but it also offers hope for a better future.

She reviews her breakfast “Screwdriver Slush” from Spangles restaurant and stopped at the Wizard of Oz Museum in Wamego, KS on her way back home to Missouri. Kathleen then describes the events of Father's Day weekend at Lake of the Ozarks, participating in the annual Father's Day golf tournament with her dad and sister. “GOOD BAD FOOD”: In her quest for new and delicious not-so-nutritious junk food AND in continuing her search for the best Ranch, Kathleen samples Wishbone Champagne Vinaigrette dressing, which she thinks is WAY too sweet and tangy. She moves on to sample Ranch Wheat Thins, which she doesn't think taste at ALL like Ranch. She finishes her tasting with Kansas's own Art's & Mary's Tater Chips, which she thinks have fantastic crunch and flavor. QUEEN'S COURT: Kathleen updates the Termites on the activities of the queens: Queen Dolly has given $1M to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital for pediatric infectious diseases research, Stevie Nicks closed out Bonnaroo Sunday night and finishing this leg of her tour, and Chaka Khan and Queen Tanya Tucker are both having a blast out on tour. Claude des Armoises's ploy lasted four years, earned her a great deal of cash—and almost ensnared the King of France himself.ARMADILLOS CONTINUE THEIR MARCH: Kathleen is fascinated to watch the migration of armadillos in the US, so much so that she talks about it in her act. She reads an article about the mystery behind this migration, as Armadillos have now been seen as north as Virginia. SAFEST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD: Kathleen reads the 2022 list of Safest Countries in the World, with Iceland taking the top spot this year. GAME STOP WALK-OUT: Kathleen is amused reading an article about mass walk-outs by GameStop employees, citing unhealthy work conditions. GEICO ORDERED TO PAY WHEN STD CONTRACTED IN A CAR: Kathleen shakes her head in disbelief when reading an article advising that a Missouri woman was awarded $5.2 million in a settlement from insurance company GEICO after contracting a sexually transmitted disease from her partner in his vehicle, which was insured by the company, court documents show.THE AMERICAN WHO INVENTED THE DONUT: Kathleen shares the story of Maine mariner Captain Hanson Gregory, who as a teenage galley boy, turned a poorly cooked blob of sailors' sustenance into the iconic, ring-shaped, and deep-fried delicacy we know and love today. Rev. James Price, pastor of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Wamego, KS joins Rev. Brady Finnern to study Genesis 10. The LORD provides. When the earth only had 8 people left, the Lord caused His people to be fruitful and multiply in the dignity of being a child of God. We are all descended from Noah's family which reminds us to treat each other with dignity, especially as we know it is Christ who has shed His blood for all nations. God's people extended throughout the world and through Abraham all nations will be blessed through faith in the LORD. This connects to us as Christians, that by His grace, this Gospel goes to all nations (Matthew 28:19). “O LORD, as You provide for Your people, help us to give dignity to all people, by Your Holy Spirit bring all nations to Christ and His forgiving grace. Lord have mercy. Amen”

Rev. Jim Price, pastor of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Wamego, KS joins Rev. Brady Finnern to study and pray Psalm 133 & 134. The source of our unity is in God's goodness. We are united as one by His love seen on the cross. Our striving for unity is like trying to catch the wind if His blessings do not come from above. His blessing of forgiveness, life, and salvation flow down upon us like oil on a newly ordained priest and the dew of a mountain onto a dry desert ground. This grace flows from the greater priest than Aaron who has made the final sacrifice. “Lord God, we bless You that You have brought us together as one in Christ. We behold Your mercy and ask that Your Holy Spirit would bring us together as one to love You and love others. United in Christ, Amen”

It does not look like much of the Midwest landscape that comes to mind. Oh, no. Wamego, Kansas has poppy fields and Emerald Cities; yellow brick roads and ruby red slippers and lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Because somewhere over the rainbow is Wamego, Kansas, a town whose cultural identity has been oz-ified into no place like home.

As the danger of ASF looms over our heads, it's important that we have a gameplan for if it gets into the US. In today's talk with Clayton Chastain, Dr. Cassie Jones discusses the results of a study that tests the effectiveness of flushing ASF out of the lines of a feed mill if the feed mill ever made a batch of ASF positive feed. Could this help reduce the spread of ASF in feed? Listen to this short podcast to find out! Dr. Cassie Jones is a Professor at Kansas State University. She earned her B.S. and M.S. in swine nutrition at Kansas State University and her Ph.D. in nutritional sciences at Iowa State University. At K-State, Dr. Jones coordinates the Department's undergraduate teaching program, which has more than 900 students and generates more than 30,000 academic credits annually. She teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses in animal nutrition and research methodologies. Dr. Jones also has a robust research program as part of the Feed Safety Team, an interdisciplinary group of nutritionists, veterinarians, and feed scientists that work together to better understand pathogen transmission through feed and ingredients. Dr. Jones' most recent research focuses on understanding and preventing African swine fever virus entry into farms through swine feed. She is a regular resource to government and industry partners as they build science-based policy and implement best-practices. She and her husband, Spencer, have three children, Ty, Hayden, and Hadley, and raise Angus cattle near Wamego.
