Let me be real honest with you. There's only so much you can cut from your spending to change your money situation. So, instead of hyper-focusing on cutting more, I want you to shift your thinking to what could bring in more cash flow. That's a much healthier way of looking at your money and can change your money situation quickly. Let this be the year you unstick yourself - the year where you create cash flow and move it towards your goals. The year of making money work instead of lamenting that there isn't enough. Three new assistant coaches have been named for the Black Ferns, all of whom are men. Tony Christie, Steve Jackson and Mike Delany will join head coach Allan Bunting in the coaching set up, while former NZ Sevens team manager Janelle Strickland will be the team's manager. The new trio replace departing assistants Wesley Clarke and Whitney Hansen. There hasn't been a great coaching pathway for women in rugby over the years, but some are starting to emerge, such as Crystal Kaua at the Chiefs, and Victoria Grant with the Hurricanes. Of course Hansen was an assistant with the Black Ferns under Wayne Smith, but she's now leading the Matatū in Super Rugby. Former Wellington player turned rugby commentator Alice Soper thinks more could be done to improve that coaching pathway for women. She spoke to Corin Dann.

Your financial freedom journey won't look like anyone else's. It's your future, your passion, and your life on the line when trying to hit financial independence. But what are we missing out on during the journey? Are we mindlessly walking towards a “money mirage” where everything in life is perfect and happiness is always abundant, simply because we have more money? Or, is the end of the financial independence journey far less satisfying than it's hyped up to be?Doc G, from The Earn & Invest podcast, knows about regret. When he's not recording episodes about residual income, he's helping hospice patients who are months, weeks, or even days away from life's end. He knows what it looks like when someone harbors regret about what they should have done. So many of our greatest regrets are caused by not knowing what we truly want to do. The question is, do you know what will actually make you happy? It's okay if you can't answer that question right away. In Doc G's newest book Taking Stock: A Hospice Doctor's Advice on Financial Independence, Building Wealth, and Living a Regret-Free Life, he gives a concoction of stories, exercises, and thought-provoking metaphors to help you not only reach FI but do so regret-free.In This Episode We CoverWhy stepping away from a high-paying career could make financial freedom easier for youFinding what you truly want out of life and how to do so before it's too lateThe “mirage of money” that financial independence chasers can't get enough ofWhy the “death march to FI” is rarely worth it and what to do if you're on that pathThe “three brothers” story that will have you rethinking how you want to reach early retirement What hospice patients regretted most and their advice for those who are healthyAnd So Much More!Links from the ShowBiggerPockets Money Facebook GroupBiggerPockets ForumsFinance Review Guest OnboardingScott's InstagramMindy's TwitterListen to All Your Favorite BiggerPockets Podcasts in One PlaceApply to Be a Guest on The Money ShowPodcast Talent Search!Subscribe to The “On The Market” YouTube ChannelListen to The “On The Market” Podcast: Spotify, Apple Podcasts, BiggerPocketsCheck Out Mindy's 2022 Live Spending Tracker and BudgetLife After FIRE – Case Studies with Scott, Whitney Hansen, and Doc GEarn and Invest PodcastInterested in learning more about today's sponsors or becoming a BiggerPockets partner yourself? Whitney Hansen shares how she eliminated $30,000 in less than a year!  So financial independence in the truest sense is for me when you are officially at a point where you don't have to work anymore, you're officially retired if you so choose. But the goal of that is, is that you can start to have a lifestyle that kind of mimics financial independence earlier on. If you're very careful and you are paying off debt and you're intentional with your spending, and if you're not letting it get out of control, I think you can actually live some of those benefits sooner. And so that's kind of what I what I believe is that you can have this really cool life if you are willing to do the hard work. Now, you can actually have that life sooner than 65 years old. Whitney Hansen Paying Off Debt Faster I've been noticing a shift lately when the topic of money and paying off debt comes up. I hear from friends, family, neighbors and work buddies is this idea of having more options. It's not about a specific amount in the bank or retiring by a certain date. It's about being drawn to financial freedom because people to want to be stuck at a career they don't like or in a situation because they are just overwhelmed with debt. Is this something a business should have in place? Yes, creating boundaries within a business not only helps your business grow but helps your mental state remain healthy.  Whitney Hansen, the host of the award-winning podcast, The Money Nerds, had a detailed conversation with our host, Sarah Li Cain, to discuss the importance of setting boundaries around her business, and how having boundaries keeps you from creating identities solely around the business.  Episode highlights   Whitney discusses the importance of creating boundaries She walked us through the steps on how to establish boundaries in your business Whitney touches on giving yourself permission to take days off She lists the benefits in creating boundaries About Whitney Hansen I'm Whitney Hansen.  I'm a personal finance coach and entrepreneur. Who doesn’t love a good DIY home project? But how do you take what you see online or on television and translate that into your home, especially when you are not naturally handy? Today, we’ll look at what you need to know to get started and build up your DIY skills! How to Get Started with Your DIY Home Projects Last week we were talking about being a frugal foodie, home brewing, and having a garden at your place. These are some of my favorite topics. I enjoy talking about how to save money and put it towards goals that matter to you but I also love learning new things.  As I mentioned last week, I wasn’t a natural gardener.  My first attempts are pretty bad keeping plants alive. I ended up going with cacti and fake plants inside the house for a few years.  By starting off small with a little front patio garden. I began to get some practice and to learn some skills. And I would not call myself a garden expert.  Now I’m really proud that we have a space out back where we can grow the vegetables that we enjoy and love. I feel the same way about DIY. Neither one of us are naturally handy people, but when we became homeowners, we out of necessity had to learn some skills. Not only so that we can save some money, but turn our house into our home.   If you’re thinking of taking on some home projects, but you don’t know where to start, then this is your episode.  Whitney Hansen, who’s the creator and host of The Money Nerds podcast is here today.  Besides her financial skills, she also has some serious DIY talents. She loves to jump into projects whether it’s painting her house, building a fireplace, or flipping furniture. Something he’d wanted his whole life, this thing he’d identified with so strongly for so long, and the thought of walking away from such an enormous part of his life was terrifying because now he had a way to do it and it was suddenly real.Having always saved at least 50% of his income, Doc G went to his accountant - who was unfamiliar with early retirement and sort of threw out a number he needed to save to retire. His financial advisor was a bit more helpful, asking questions like, "how much do you spend in a year?" Not knowing, Doc G threw out a number, which turned out to be really close to what his accountant said he needed. But he was still unsure. So he did what anyone in the FIRE community would do - he started reading. Everything and anything he could get his hands on. He realized he had enough money to stop doing those things he didn’t like, so he started practicing what he calls "The Art of Subtraction." He removed the things that did not make his heart sing, so that he could focus on those things he DID enjoy. And his plan worked. He now can spend his working hours doing the things he loves to do, and does not have to do the things he doesn’t. He has focused more time on non-doctor side projects like writing and podcasting - where his enjoyment runs sky high even though the paychecks do not.As his side projects bring more joy, walking away from the physician thing gets easier and easier.Making plans for retirement is great, but today Doc G shares how to plan your transition into retirement which can be even more important! In This Episode We Cover:Doc G's specialty as a doctorHis journey into the medical fieldHow his life changed from being a doctor to investorHow his money journey beganThe art of subtractionStepping away from being a physician and leaving a large paycheck behindQuestioning what truly makes you happyDoc G's portfolioHis rental property businessAnd SO much more!Links from the ShowBiggerPockets Money Podcast 99 with Scott, Whitney Hansen, and Doc GBiggerPockets Money Podcast 6 with Sarah WilsonBiggerPockets Money Podcast 11 with JoelWhat is Hedonic Adaptation and How Can it Turn You Into a Sucka?Hacking Hedonic Adaptation to Get Way More For Your Money

Whitney Hanson is one of six children. Growing up she watched her father start a business, watched it fail, and watched him turn destructive, eventually leaving her mother to raise six kids on her own - all while making $7.25 an hour.Whitney has seen the ugly side of money - and what can happen when you have none - and decided she wanted no part of it. Money equals options, and she wanted as many options as she could get! She began to research how to build wealth, because she did not want to perpetuate the cycle of poverty. She knew she wanted to go to college, but also knew she’d have to find a way to pay for it. Rather than taking out tons of student loans, Whitney went through a 3-month cosmetology program starting the day after she graduated high school, and used the money she made as a nail technician to pay for college. Because she values financial stability over everything else, she bought a house when she turned 19 - and house hacked by renting two rooms to friends to help with the mortgage. Upon graduating college, she realized she had taken out $30,000 in student loans that now had to be paid back. Rather than allow it to rule her life, she cut out everything and worked a second job in order to knock out her debt - in 10 months!Whitney knew she had figured out how to lead a healthy financial life - and was eager to help others solve their own financial struggles. She started a coaching program to help financially empower people, and help them navigate the beginning stages of their financial journey.Whitney’s story is 100% repeatable for anyone listening. She came from nothing, and made it on her own.In This Episode We Cover:Whitney's journey with moneyDifference between a want and a needHer personal financial situation during highschoolWhat her job is while she's studying collegeThe reason why she bought a house at 19 years oldWhitney's tips for studentsTalking about scholarshipsOn her adulting momentHer ways on how she paid off her debtHer journey in creating a business during her MBA programTalking about her cashflowBiggest challenges that people are facing who she talk with about financesAnd SO much more!Links from the ShowBiggerPockets Money Facebook GroupBiggerPockets Money Podcast 64 with Zach GautierBiggerPockets Money Podcast 80 with Rich and RegularBiggerPockets Money Podcast 112 with Natalie KolodijBiggerPockets Money Podcast 111 with A Purple MomPersonal CapitalXY Planning NetworkThe Money Nerds Podcast 13 with Mindy JensenThe Money Nerds Podcast 37 with Mindy Jensen
