Women's rugby is not unlike the cheese TV commercials. Good things take time. Last weekend's Super Rugby Aupiki final between the Blues wāhine and Matatu was a great game to watch. It put an exclamation mark on what was a rollicking tournament. The match reflected the strides the women's game has taken since the inception of Aupiki. The crowd at Eden Park didn't rock any foundations but the TV viewer numbers were impressive. 405,000 folk tuned in to watch the best female footballers in the country duke it out and match worthy of their eyeballs was rolled out. On Thursday night, in atrocious conditions, the Blues laid waste to the Waratahs in the Women's Super Rugby Champions Final. Again, bugger all in the way of people in the stands (the weather was toxic) and I have no TV numbers, but I'd hazard a guess they would be healthy figures for a Thursday night game that sneaked up on people. Still, it was on, and it was worth a look. The women's game is having a growth spurt, and this needs to be appreciated and fostered as the men's game has essentially had a multi-generational head start. The game is played differently to the men's version, not unlike the cricketing gender split. It's not better, nor worse, just different. For those hell bent on direct comparison, I have nothing. A frozen and archaic mindset is not worth fighting against, these people can't or won't accept the turning wheels of time, good luck to them. The top level of domestic women's rugby is still in an embryonic stage, to judge it based on crowd numbers alone is manifestly unfair, not forgetting how few people turn up to the men's Super Rugby exchanges on a regular basis. With further investment the game will exponentially grow. Let's not forget that New Zealand rugby's money, regardless of where it comes from, is not just for the All Blacks. It is for the entire game from the grass roots up. NZR has a responsibility to uphold the development of the game across the board. It's our national game, not just a platform for the men in black. Water the dirt and flowers last for you. Good things take time. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

New Zealand Rugby believes the women's Super Rugby Aupiki final's scheduling clash with the Highlanders versus Fijian Drua will have little impact on viewership. The Blues versus Matatū finale at Eden Park on Saturday has been granted a primetime 7.05 pm kickoff, despite the regular season games all being played in the afternoon. NZR head of women's high-performance Hannah Porter is unconcerned about the battle for viewers with the Highlanders playing at the same time in Dunedin. Blues and Black Ferns second five eight Ruahei Demant joined D'Arcy Waldegrave to preview their grand final. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
New Zealand Rugby head of women's high performance Hannah Porter has outlined why a measured approach is needed for expanding Super Rugby Aupiki. The Blues host Matatu in Saturday's final at Eden Park on Saturday - the winner to face the champion of Australia's Super W next Thursday.

¡No te equivoques! -Alpine A110 1.800. Marruecos 1973. -Peugeot 504. East African Safari 1975. -Peugeot 504 V6 coupé. East African Safari 1978. -Mercedes 500 SLC. Rallye “Côte d’Ivoire” 1980. -Lancia Delta Integrale “Safari”. East African Safari 1988 y 1989. -Toyota Celica Turbo 4wd. East African Safari 1992-1995.

In today's episode, we look at the legal requirements you need to satisfy to own a taser. Hi Wakili. I am tired. I am tired because, unlike my brother, before I leave the house I have to think about so many things. I have to consider the place I am heading to, the people i will interact with, the means of transport I will use and even then I still get random butt grabs on the streets. I stay on a call even pretend to be on one so that a taxi driver is aware that I have people on the other line in case he gets any ideas. I have been researching and seen that in other countries women carry tasers and pepper spray. I think I need one so that I feel a little safer since I can't walk around with a gun. What are the legal requirements I need to satisfy so that I can own a taser? Research by Maurine Kerich (maurine@swalanyeti.org) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/swalanyeti/message

For the 06th episode of Post Growth Australia Podcast, we thought it was prime time to connect with the Post Growth Institute (PGI) themselves. After all, no post-growth advocate worth their salt should go through life without connecting with this wonderful, tireless hub of connectors and game changers at some point. Being the incredible international networkers they are, PGAP had the opportunity to speak with their Partnerships Manager, Kenyan born and raised Robert Wanalo. Host Michael Bayliss takes us on a trip down memory lane – my nostalgic reminiscence probably induced by my cabin fever lockdown delirium – humour me. Firstly I recall the time I first discovered the Post Growth Institute (https://www.postgrowth.org/) through the Post Growth Alliance (https://www.postgrowthalliance.org/). It was during a time when I first came across ‘limits to growth’ and ‘financial collapse’ in a big way through the work of Richard Heinberg and Nicole Foss (links at the bottom). I joined the Melbourne based Doing It Ourselves on the basis of their actual hit video What The Economic Crisis Really Means – And What We Can Do About It (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euhkIesmW7E). Within weeks of joining DIO I was their international liaison coordinator and instantly mesmerised by the sheer number of dedicated groups and organizations in the international sphere who were making post-growth a (ha ha) GROWING reality and not just a theoretical dream. It was a pleasure to share their campaigns across DIO’s social media networks at a time when DIO was still active. I therefore thank PGI (or blame on a bad day – just kidding) for setting me on this particular activist branch. Another trip down memory lane was back in 2007 when I lived and worked in Kenya. I set off as a recently graduated student, with barely more than $1000 in my bank account and this being my first experience in any real interaction with the Global South. I went straight in the deep end, living and working in a small village on the less visited south-west corner of Kenya, where I laughed, cried, jumped in joy and went completely mad in a completely wild ride with some of the most gorgeous people and communities I have ever met in my life. Looking back, this was a rite of passage like none other. It so happens that Robert Wanalo was practically my neighbour during that time who lived in an adjacent village. How’s that for two formative experiences coming together full circle! It is an utter pleasure to connect with Robert. During the interview, he provides a unique perspective on post-growth in action through the lens of the Global South and more specifically, as it applies to Africa and Kenya. Within in the Post-Growth movement where so much of what we do is based around international collaboration, the interview with Robert highlights the importance that all perspective from around the world are critical. Indeed, as the Global North has been so instrumental in force-feeding inequitable, growth obsessed capitalism across the world over the last few centuries, so much of the wisdom for healing the world an ourselves is already there in the Global South – if we are all willing to listen. Robert impressed with how greatly read and connected he is, I have made an attempt to link some of the groups, people and books he refers to throughout his interview. In fact, Robert is so well connected to people and place, that he was interviewed within a thriving hub with children, families, animals and the odd Matatu in the background. So, while I applied some noise filters to the interview, it may sound busy at times. The positive reframe is that this is what a thriving melting pot of community in action sounds like! Moving forward, keep a lookout for PGI’s ‘Free Money Day (https://www.postgrowth.org/free-money-day)’ on September 15th. Once again, PGI prove themselves to be the masters of ‘edutainment’, making a fun exercise out of the act of passing on money to complete strangers whilst reflecting on the ridiculousness of our current wealth hoarding system (based on supposed money that for the most part does not even really exist). Speaking of which, the nature of money should be the theme of a future episode of PGAP…. Stick around for next episode where author and activist Anitra Nelson (https://anitranelson.info/) where we discuss all things Degrowth and her new co-written book Exploring Degrowth: A Critical Guide (https://anitranelson.info/exploring-degrowth/) Support our local artists!
Today I tell you about my brother, the journey to finding out he'd died, the first time I saw him in a casket, his burial and the journey since For those not from Kenya, * Matatu = public transport bus , * Matatu stage = bus stop, * Maragoli = one of the ethnic communities/languages spoken in Kenya, * Safaricom = most popular Telcom in Kenya * Town = the city * Fundi = Tailor Doing this episode was really hard for me. Recording and editing the audio took a lot. Reliving the death of loved one is hard. I didn't realize just how hard it would be... The day that this episode goes live was supposed to be my brother's birthday. June 28th. He would be turning thirty. You will hear a lot of “…at some point” “…aaaand…”, clicks, and awkward laughs :-) I wrote this couple of months after my brother died…I mentioned it in the episode https://medium.com/@thiskenyanwoman/that-first-walk-5215dde29e06 https://medium.com/@thiskenyanwoman/i-want-to-be-normal-f10461979f1e https://medium.com/@thiskenyanwoman/hopes-and-dreams-i-had-for-my-brother-29e7c719995 Please take 5 mins and give me your feedback-->https://forms.gle/A2d84D8TRkxeDdUe8 Follow me on the socials @thiskenyanwoman on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook Podcast Pages @cocobutterjunkie on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook Music: Happy African Village by John Bartmann --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/cocoabutterjunkie/message

Transport services could be paralyzed starting today (Thursday) as matatu operators in Nairobi are headed for a showdown with City Hall over seasonal parking charges. This comes after Matatu Association of Kenya threatened to down tools starting Today following flopped consultations with City Hall over the proposed increased seasonal parking fees.According to City Hall, 13-seater matatus are supposed to pay Sh5,000 per month, Sh14 000 for three months, Sh26,000 for six months and Sh52,000 for a whole year. But the matatu operators are opposed to the new charges. The association's national coordinator, Mr. Albert Karakacha told the Daily Nation that the talks of engagement with officials at City Hall bore no fruits as the two parties failed to agree. He stated that the county government refused to lower the parking fees and revert it to what it initially was, saying that the matter did not come to a close. However, Nairobi County Director of Parking Services Tom Tinega has maintained that they will continue levying the new charges as is spelled on the Nairobi County Finance Act, 2019 and that they will not be entering into any agreement with the matatu operators on any issue that is not supported by the law. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newscast-africa/support Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to round 2 of ladies Prayer week. Plug in and see what God has in store. In the miracle service, Apostle Joshua shared about the topic, "5 Graces of a General." He covered 3 in the service and the content is sufficient for the week. The 5 graces are; Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher. Day 1: Pastor Today we look at the pastoral grace in a General. Context This is not the regular pastoral Office with a church and congregation but a grace to serve God's people. Pastors have two symbols; apron and staff. Apron because they prepare meals for God's children and Staff because they are called to give sound instruction. In all we are called to do, we need to go beyond the basics and leave a 'flavor' of Christ. Our assignment is to transform children to kingdom heirs. We should not deal casually with God's children. In the end, the Lord requires an account in every area He entrusted us. *Prayer Points* 1. Homes- Pray for the Lord to raise sisters/ mothers who are diligent in raising disciples for Christ. -God will also raise you as a 'mother' to those who need instruction. -God will give us wisdom to respond to every area where God's children are being oppressed 2. Learning Institutions -God would raise teachers whose counsel is beyond education but a godly legacy -God to raise teachers from the altar. Those who revere the Lord and give passionately 3. Businesses -God to raise godly business people in our midst who beyond selling goods/ services leave a legacy -Business people who will finance God's Kingdom (pray for your business to enrol in this category) 4. Leaders -God to raise leaders with a pastoral acumen. They care for the sheep not devour. They esteem the well being of their constituents. (Leaders at work, homes, schools, churches, nation, Institutions) 5. Industries -God to raise people in every industry/ career with a pastoral heart. A people who esteem propagating the Gospel as they worked more than the money. Media personalities who produce godly content. Matatu industry owners who serve as unto the Lord... Mention the field you desire God to raise people with a pastoral perspective 5. Self Lord help me identify an opportunity for my children and I to serve with a pastoral touch. Direct my feet where I am needed to raise disciples for you. Reveal to me how I can use what you have placed in my hands to feed and instruct your people. Show me how to live and leave a legacy for You Lord.

"People will embrace a new food in a way they wouldn't necessarily embrace a new culture." -Edwina Bruford (The Matatu Kitchen) In this episode, we hear from Fozia and Edwina from The Matatu Kitchen, an East African supperclub based out of Bristol. "Matatus are the vibrant and noisy minibuses you see in Nairobi and elsewhere around East Africa. Matatus are particularly famous for their colourful decorations, great music, and lively conversation..." I met these two amazing ladies at a recent conference in London called "Unite Against Dividers". In this workshop, Fozia and Edwina used food as a vehicle for people from various communities to come together and discuss their experiences; bond over their similarities, all while discussing the difficult topic of racism in a post-Brexit society. We'll hear about the workshop, what the two ladies learned from the experience, and what we can all learn from simply listening to one another.
