Sir Gerard Brennan has been one of Australia's most important barristers and judges since World War II. As a judge, he made many significant contributions to Australian jurisprudence. The most consequential of these was the leading judgment in the High Court's decision in Mabo recognising the rights of occupation of Australia's indigenous peoples. A few short years later in the Wik case, Brennan CJ dissented from the Court's decision that native title had not been extinguished by grants of pastoral leases under Colonial and State legislation. The key to understanding the fundamental consistency of these two judgments lies in an appreciation of Brennan's fidelity to the constraints upon judicial decision making required by the constitutional separation of legislative and judicial power.About the speakerThe Honourable Patrick Keane AC KC is a graduate of the University of Queensland and Oxford University where he was awarded numerous academic prizes and accolades. He was admitted to the Queensland Bar in 1977, appointed Queen's Counsel in 1988 and was Solicitor-General for Queensland from 1992 to 2005. Introduction: The episode begins with a time zone exchange between the host, Wik, in India, and the guest, Ed. Ed is introduced as a seasoned Wall Street executive with over 50 years of experience, holding senior roles at various prestigious firms. His life story is highlighted, from being kidnapped at age 3 and growing up in foster homes to becoming a successful business leader and philanthropist. Discussion: Ed shares how his challenging early life experiences shaped his adaptability, resilience, and desire for freedom, which later influenced his career choices and approach to entrepreneurship. He emphasizes the importance of not being a victim, regardless of circumstances, and shares pivotal moments in his career that required intentional and sometimes difficult decisions. The concept of intentional entrepreneurship is discussed, with Ed explaining that it involves seeking freedom and being one's own boss, despite the difficulties that come with it. Ed advises entrepreneurs to balance their personal development with their business goals, stressing the importance of self-care and family alongside work. He shares common pitfalls for entrepreneurs, including knowing when to persevere and when to pivot or start anew if things are not going well. Conclusion: The episode concludes with Ed's advice for entrepreneurs to regularly assess their balance between self, family, and work, and to avoid losing sight of the satisfaction that comes from giving back to the community. Key Takeaways: Adaptability and resilience can be developed through overcoming adversity. Intentional entrepreneurship is about aligning one's career with personal values and growth. Balancing personal life with professional ambitions is crucial for long-term success and fulfillment. Regular self-assessment and willingness to pivot are important for entrepreneurs.

This process involves Pip finding a set of packages that meet your requirements and whose requirements themselves don't conflict. Prior to Pip 20.3, the default process for Pip would allow conflicting requirements to install if they were transitive dependencies where the last one specified would be the one installed. Once the new resolver was turned on by default it immediately hit problems where backtracking would get stuck for a long time. Pip separates out the resolution logic into a library called resolvelib. It had been discovered that there was a logical error under certain circumstances, and also there was a known better backtracking technique it could employ called backjumping. Both of these were recently fixed and implemented in resolvelib, which were then vendored in to Pip 23.1.

If you own a spa or esthetician practice, your service package doesn't matter. Here's something I say all the time: Your services don't matter. Why not? Because your clients don't care about your services. They care about their results. They care about looking and feeling good in their clothing, interacting with people, and what other people think about their skin. So even if you have the best drugstore cleanser on the market (I recommend Wik'ed Skincare Face Cleanser), if your clients don't like it, you're screwed! So stop talking about services at length and start talking about products you have with great results from testimonials- because that's what's going to sell! Do you talk more about services? Look at your last post, is it results driven? Screenshot it and post in the comments below so we can help each other improve with marketing.

This series is presented in partnership with Black Magic Woman, Cairns Indigenous Art Fair and Bumma Bippera Media 98.7 FM. The Cairns Indigenous Art Fair will run from 6-10 July in Cairns, go to https://ciaf.com.au for more information on what's on and for tickets.Darren Blackman is a proud Gureng GurengGangalu man with maternal South Sea heritage (from Vanuatu) and was born in Nambour, Sunshine Coast. With a range of practical skills and approaches to art making, Darren generally specialises in printmaking and ceramics but also undertakes improv performance, music and painting. He has wide experience in the arts, as a musician but also as a stage manager and sound technician for cultural festivals from Woodford to Winds of Zenadth Kes festival on Thursday Island. He assisted students as studio technician at Cairns TAFE and is currently working for the senior artists at the Wik and Kugu Art Centre in Aurukun. Growing up in a main stream community on the Sunshine Coast during the corrupt Bjelke- Peterson State Governement era, constant negative news cycles concerning first nations people, biased policing and Government policy drives Blackmans expression. His work centres around circumstances evoved from a post colonial system, that censors truth while opresses the sovereign rights of his clan. Language is a powerful tool that is used by institutions to influence, write law and imbed false narratives into the Australian psyche. In the form of text, Blackman uses language in a variety of interpretations to pick apart falsehoods and policies, while passing on messages from elders, that he reworks into contemporary artworks for the future generations of his clan, and the wider community to consider. To pochodna dużego boomu w branży e-commerce.

"Někteří andělé mají místo křídel čtyři packy a kožíšek."Už je to více než dva a půl roku, co vyšel podcast "O smrti pejsků" s Pavlínou Pšeničkovou.
I'm often asked why all wine is not vegan. And the truth is that there are animal biproducts used in the production of wine, so most wines are not actually vegan friendly. Video animation by: Big Flowers Intro/Outro beat by: BLOODBLIXING Beginning of Episode (0:49). In a myriad of different ways, Half God explores Wiki's home of New York through multiple angles, giving the listener a consistent thematic backdrop to discuss every way the city influenced and shaped the man he is today. By discussing New York's deep hip-hop roots, gentrification, and growing up as a child in such a busy and often chaotic city. All in all, giving us his most focused and developed lyrical performance of his entire career. Wik has always been a better than average storyteller. But on Half God, Wiki doesn't just paint you a picture... he teleports you into his shoes to roam the NY city streets in his place. His growth as a lyricist allows him to accomplish so many different things on a given track. The song Roof is a vivid personal peek into Wiki's childhood home. Throughout this track, it's incredible how great he's become at one, giving you pieces of himself, amidst a flurry of sometimes, funny, dark, and harsh pictures that his almost stream of consciousness style provides. It's a style of lyricism that flexes how loose he can get rapping, while not actually falling off track. The subject matter seems so organic and spur of the moment, while still maintaining a focus that is incredibly sharp. More than anything, Half God is intentional. It knows exactly what it wants to be, which I believe positively affected Wiki's ability to stay focused, while not losing the loose flair he's been known for. Wiki always had this consistent North Star on the record to guide him... home. Have you ever wondered what Sommeliers do? What jobs are out there for sommeliers and what does a day in the life look like? In episode 29, I chat with my friend and fellow Certified Sommelier Ariel Bruckner. Ariel has been in the beverage industry for over a decade and has been beverage director for a major Orlando resort with over 17 restaurants and a large convention business. We chat about what it's like to be a female in the industry, how she became a beverage director, and what she drinks regularly! We also discussed the right questions to ask when ordering wine in a restaurant and how to properly send a bottle back. For more information on proper aging and how a few years can affect a wine, be sure to check out The Wine CEO Podcast Episode #12, "Is Age Just a Number?". Ariel's go-to wines: 1. Joel Gott: This family of wines tends to range from $12-$20 at most grocery stores. Despite the inexpensive price tag, these wines are really consistent and a perfect pick for a mid week bottle! 2. Chalk Hill: These wines have a large price range with bottles anywhere from $15-$55, but all of them are consistently delicious.
Today we're talking with Tina deBellegarde about short stories, what makes a good short story, and why certain short story writers are so appealing. Tina has been nominated for the Agatha Award for Best First Novel, has a short story published in the Mystery Writers of America anthology called "When a Stranger Comes to Town," and most recently won the USA Prize in the Writers in Kyoto annual story competition.Amy congratulates Tina on her contest-winning entry called "Sound Travels" in the WiK writing competition, and Tina mentions that it can be read on the Writers in Kyoto website. Tina tells how the inspiration for the entry came from the current coronavirus situation which has prevented her (living in the US) from seeing her son, (living in Kyoto), for over a year and a half. Her piece was constructed from telephone conversations with her son amidst the background sounds of Kyoto City as he went about his daily activities. They start the topic of the podcast by highlighting some Japanese short story writers such as Haruki Murakami and Banana Yoshimoto, Hiromi Kawakami, Aoko Matsuda, and Kyoko Nakajima. and foreign writers, including Lafcadio Hearn and, more recently, Rebecca Otowa. Amy also mentions two short story collections from China, one by the well-known author Xu Xu called Bird Talk, and an anthology of flash fiction called The Pearl Jacket and Other Stories: Flash Fiction from Contemporary China which prompts a discussion on flash fiction, which Tina defines for us and elaborates upon, including the works of Mieko Kawakami.Amy asks Tina who her favorite short story authors are and Tina identifies Haruki Murakami and Banana Yoshimoto as definite favorites. Amy decides to give listeners a bit of a taste of Yoshimoto and how she smoothly transitions into "another world" by reading from the introduction of the story "Newlywed" from the short story collection Lizard. Tina notes in this example that some of the best short stories start from such an encounter, or moment, after which, the world is never the same for the protagonist. Trains are often the scene of stories in Japan, since most people in Japan ride trains all throughout their lives and these movable settings involve a revolving door of different kinds of people who visit familiar places at which events can occur. Murakami does this too, especially as seen in the stories in his latest collection First Person Singular. Tina notes that in this sampling of works many of Murakami's moments are merely moments, without morphing into other worlds (the way many of his novels do).Tina admires Murakami for his adeptness at focusing on "small moments" and how he expands them into stories. She talks about his short story "The Second Bakery Attack," (from The Elephant Vanishes) then moves into "Carnaval" (from First Person Singular) and how Murakami contrasts beautiful and "ugly" women in this story (the latter of whom he envies for their skills in communicating and drawing people into their worlds). Amy mentions Books on Asia's Murakami Podcast and Issue, that lists all his books, including his short story collections and fun Murakami trivia.Tina reflects on the BOA Podcast 7: Richard Lloyd Parry and Ghosts of the Tsunami and how Parry said there were so many stories to tell, that he focused on a few that would stand in for all stories, which Tina identifies, is what a good short story should do: allow the reader to connect to the universality of a story. That's what Murakami does when he takes the reader into the everyday life of his characters, and immerses you, so you can connect to all the parts of their story. The discussion turns to some examples of Murakami encounters such as "With the Beatles," and "Carnaval" (from First Person Singular), “On Seeing the 100 percent Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning,” (from The Elephant Vanishes). Tina also mentions Naoya Shiga's story "All the Way to Abashiri" fromThe Paper Door collection that takes place on a train while the character considers the woman sitting across from him with her two small children, and wonders what her life is like, what her husband does for a living, etc.Amy notes that Japanese short stories don't always offer hard and fast conclusions and how the reader is expected to linger over endings and think about the possible endings themselves, given different clues from the author. Tina says Japanese literature is often slice-of-life vignettes, where the story starts in the middle and ends in the middle, with the ending left open.Amy observes that in addition to trains, another place that pops up a lot in Japanese literature as a backdrop is the thrift store. Many have read The Nakano Thrift Shop by Hiromi Kawakami, but there is also a thrift store in Kyoko Nakajima's just released collection Things Remembered and Things Forgotten in a piece called "The Life Story of a Sewing Machine." Amy elaborates on the elements that make this story so satisfying to readers such as herself.Another big topic of Japanese short stories is yōkai, or ghosts. They talk about Aoko Matsuda's recent release Where the Wild Ladies Are and how she re-invents traditional Japanese folktales into modern stories with strong women. Amy is hoping this a trend since the upcoming June release of Yamamba: In Search of the Japanese Mountain Witch also re-imagines the Yamamba as a strong woman rather than the scary old crone she is classically portrayed as.Tina and Amy discover they have two different versions of Where the Wild Ladies Are and they compare the U.K. version against the American edition, the latter of which gives much more background information on the origins of the original stories the works are based on.Amy also cites another hopeful trend: that of foreign writers penning short stories on Japan since they give different insights into Japanese culture than Japanese writers do. Lafcadio Hearn is known for his stories on explaining Japanese culture and ghosts, but writers like Rebecca Otowa, who write stories from the point of view of living and experiencing contemporary Japanese culture from a woman's point of view, in addition to being an outsider, is also important. Tina agrees and says that she read Otowa's At Home in Japan before her visit to Japan, and that Otowa was a clearer conduit for her to learn about Japanese customs. We talk about one story "The Turtle Stone" (from The Mad Kyoto Shoe Swapper) as an example of cultural cues we can glean from reading such stories.Lastly, Tina reveals what her favorite books on Japan are:Kyoto: Seven Paths to the Heart of the City by Diane DurstonKokoro by Natsume SōsekiUntangling My Chopsticks by Victoria Abbot RiccardiThe Books on Asia Podcast is sponsored by Stone Bridge Press, publisher of fine books on Asia for over 30 years.

Foster 00:01:12 Yeah, so my, I think I was a freshman, the summer of my freshman year of college. And so I was asking around like what I could do, where I could go, and I knew I wanted to come home for the summer, but I just didn't know where, where to be placed. So then someone made the connections with Mike [Mike Prate, Development Director of the Sicangu CDC and former FSI Director] and Mike was like, yeah, sure, come on. In part one of the series Lauren and Simon talk to Kee'ahn. Kee'ahn is a proud Gugu Yalanji, Jirrbal, Zenadth Kes song woman who has ventured from her home town in North Queensland, to pursue her dream in the Kulin Nation (Melbourne, Australia). With a name coming from the Wik people, meaning to dance, to sing, to play – Kee’ahn aims to honour her name and Ancestors through her soulful music that weaves lush melodies and words reminiscent of heartbreak and healing. The release of her debut single BETTER THINGS in May rocketed her to the national music attention. “Kee’ahn has the ability to floor you with her spectacular voice, and as a song writer she brings intimate moments to the surface like she’s lifting a feather to the sky – it’s mystifying and gracious.” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MPavilion & the Robin Boyd Foundation bring you a six part series of live performances from the iconic Walsh Street house. Directed by Freya Esders and shot by award-winning cinematographer Edward Goldner, the series will place an eclectic roster of Melbourne’s favourite musicians in all corners of this architectural masterpiece. The Walsh Street Music Program features the soulful multi-instrumentalist and proud Kuku Yalanji, Jirrbal and Torres Strait Islander woman Kee’ahn, Chinese/Australian composer and guzheng virtuoso Mindy Meng Wang, the beautifully melancholic and ethereal Sweet Whirl, Sudanese born Melbourne bred rapper BabyT, the lo-fi soundscapes of unground cult lovers Sleeper & Snake, and finally Melbourne prog pop eccentric Gregor. Walsh St house is the dwelling that Australian architectural giant Robin Boyd designed as his own family home. As an exemplar of modernist Australian architecture that continues to influence architectural thinking, the house has been the subject of extensive media coverage both nationally and internationally. The house remains unchanged from the time it was first designed and occupied by the Boyd Family in 1959, furnished with pieces designed by Boyd’s associates Grant Featherston, Clement Meadmore and others and then photographed by Mark Strizic. Now home of the Robin Boyd Foundation, the heritage icon provides a unique insight into Melbourne’s design leaders of the 50s and 60s.

I open my eyes and start my day as usual. French press coffee made and I'm out the door. Today is the 30th annual Lakota Food Summit. I remember when I attended the 1st summit.Driving to the venue, I see the liveliness of Rosebud on a Saturday morning. People are out buying produce at the farmers market. I see the hot food vendors, and my mind immediately goes to the breakfast burrito stand where the woman makes homemade tortillas and gets her eggs from the vendor a few booths down. I can't stop today, I have something important to do. Pulling up to the venue, I feel honored that I was asked to prepare a dish and be a featured chef. Getting situated in the kitchen, feels so 2nd nature. I put on my custom apron, which has ribbon sewn into it. I feel like I just put on my battle armor, and in a sense, I did. My recipe for the day calls for bison. I open the walk-in cooler and pull out my slab of bison meat, feeling proud that I know this buffalo was raised and processed on Rosebud. The dish is done and plated. As people in the conference room take their first bite, I know that the food they are eating is medicine. The bison was raised and harvested in a way that respected its sacrifice. And putting my good thoughts and energy into preparing it, the food now becomes medicine, nourish
In this episode of Food Revolution, we hear from Karen Moore, one of the SFSI's WIK interns. The WIK internship, short for Waicahya Icagapi Kte or ‘They Will Grow into Producers,' is a year-long paid adult internship for tribal members interested in becoming food producers. Our first intern cohort has been working and learning with the SFSI since November 2019. The internship was designed in collaboration with Dakota Rural Action to provide both on-farm and classroom training for community members who want to be a part of building a local foods economy right here on the Rosebud Reservation. The two types of training allows them to learn the technical skills needed to grow and produce food and also ensures they have the business background necessary to make their future operations financially sustainable and profitable.

From galactic explosions, and waiting for supernova space is full of mysteries. What happens when a super massive black hole in a massive galaxy cluster...erupts? A massive explosion shred a hole 15 times larger than the Milky Way. What is happening with Betelgeuse? Could Betelgeuse just have shed it's coat? Is Betelgeuse about to go 'nova or is something else happening? We find out about galactic research you can do from your couch. Tracing out a spiral is easy for humans to do, so why not help trace out a galaxy? Looking for something to do at home, why not citizen science helping trace galaxies?References: S. Giacintucci, M. When I first started copywriting, I had a real disadvantage. I had been a journalist, and the underlying belief -- at the time -- was that people are rational: You simply give them the facts, for and against, and they will make a reasoned decision. So when I started to see promotions that were working based on emotional appeals that seemed foreign and bizarre to me, I didn't understand. It took a while. But eventually, I came to realize what every successful copywriter realizes: that people are motivated by forces that had nothing to do with what I had learned in school, or on the job as a working journalist. One way I came to make sense of all of this was by looking at what's known as "the Seven Deadly Sins." That is -- all of these things you were NOT supposed to do and feel, were, in fact, what motivated large numbers of people to act and to buy. That's what we'll be talking about today. Warning Copy is powerful. You're responsible for how you use what you hear on this podcast. Most of the time, common sense is all you need. But if you make extreme claims… and/or if you're writing copy for offers in highly regulated industries like health, finance, and business opportunity… you may want to get a legal review after you write and before you start using your copy. My larger clients do this all the time. Overview If you are deeply religious or highly idealistic, I want to make one thing very clear: The Seven Deadly Sins we'll be talking about today are presented as obstacles to overcome. When I present this information, I'm not advocating for humans to be this way. I'm acknowledging that no human alive today has been perfected, to the best of my knowledge. This is about what I have observed... what actually happens, what motivates markets in the real world, where humans are mostly NOT rational. 1. Lust definition from Wik: intense longing (more than just sex) Think about collectors. (My guitar story) 2. Gluttony definition from Wik: overindulgence, overconsumption It's certainly food. But there are people who can't get enough of anything. Think of all the wonderful wine clubs. Endless bottles of fine wines. 3.Greed definition from Wik: artificial, rapacious desire and pursuit of material possessions Certainly luxury items. Nobody "needs" them. Why do they want them? You could say greed. Really, the first three are all about untrammeled desire. Most people have a hard time controlling all their desires, and if you can find a way to tap into a desire, it will make your copy stronger. 4. Sloth definition from Wik: physical laziness - unwillingness to exert Even people who are hard-working are lazy at some times. "The Lazy Man's Way To Riches" Like with all of these, don't CALL your prospect lazy. Simply by contrasting the hard work required for other solutions and how much easier your solution is -- you'll make your point, and that can help you make your sale. 5. Wrath definition from Wik: uncontrolled feelings of rage People are REALLY angry these days. If you can show that you share their rage AND tie your offer to a solution out of that rage, it's a very powerful way to make a sale. 6. Envy definition from Wik: insatiable desire, jealousy This is my favorite - I think envy is fear of loss brought smack-dab into the present. Fear of competitors getting ahead of you. "keeping up with the Joneses" 7. Pride corrupt selfishness - putting one's own desires and urges, wants, and whims ahead of the welfare of other people Well, there's another way to look at pride. Being proud of yourself. Being proud of your kids. Being proud of your team. Old headline: "Build a Body You Can Be Proud Of" Summary Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, Pride. These won't do all the work for you, but they will point you in a good direction.Download.

A Wright State alumnus’ life-long dream is now a reality. Adam Wik, who has a bachelor’s degree in marketing and M.B.A. from Wright State, created Galatune, a science fiction/fantasy card game in which players battle their opponents. Wik started developing the game when he was only 10 years old. “Back then my game was ugly stick figures,” he said. While completing his M.B.A., Wik pitched his game concept to a panel of five judges during the 2016 Wright Venture “Face the Wolves” business competition. He won the competition, helping him let the world enjoy his game. “Thanks to Wright State University’s Wright Venture student business competition, I was able to get that spark of mentorship and funding to actually take the game to market,” said Wik. Galatune is now available online at galatune.com and at your local gaming store. The next Wright Venture competition will be held on March 27, 2018.

A story-driven, science fiction/fantasy card game that holds the promise of expanding into comic books and video games won Wright State University’s Wright Venture “Face the Wolves” business competition. Adam Wik, head of Galatune LLC, beat out two other competing teams during the second annual competition March 29 in the Student Union Apollo Room, winning a $5,000 loan. “This is phenomenal. This is surreal. It’s still not sinking in,” Wik said after winning the competition. “I never thought something like this would happen. … This is a dream come true.” Wright Venture is modeled after “Shark Tank,” an ABC-TV reality competition series that features aspiring entrepreneurs making business presentations to a panel of potential investors. Wik, who has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Wright State and is working on his M.B.A., actually created the card game when he was 10 years old. He was urged by family and friends to take it to the market. “Thankfully, with my education at Wright State University, it lets you take that big leap from childhood dream to something you can actually execute in the market,” he said. The Raj Soin College of Business created Wright Venture with the partnership of James Family Entrepreneurship program and the WSU Foundation. The goal is to create a real-life, lasting experience that will be identical to an actual business startup. This experience includes: networking, mentorship, creative idea development, product design, service creation, financial management, business planning and marketing skills. During the competition, Wik pitched his business concept to a panel of five judges — wolves — who wanted to know if he was also targeting women as customers, how he expected to become profitable so quickly, and suggested that he sink as much money as possible into marketing. The Galatune game involves two to five players who each control a champion warrior. They fight each other at the same time and get points by defeating their opponents. “You have everyone reacting and moving in real time. It’s more like an actual war where you have to predict and understand your opponents better,” Wik said. “I’ve been playing games all of my life, and I haven’t seen anything quite like this. It breaks a lot of conventions of the gaming industry in new and exciting ways.” Wik said he will use the loan money to wrap up production and artwork so the game can hit the market in time for the holiday season. Galatune will also be featured at the GloryCon convention held at the Wright State Student Union on April 23. The other two finalists in Wright Venture were Just Modern Tees, a team seeking financial support to produce T-shirts with graphics that highlight urban Midwest themes, and Shady Lake Visionaries, a video production business that focuses on the outdoors. Just Modern Tees, created by students Tyler Willis, Matt Fisher and Josiah McArther, won the Fan Favorite award. Gallatune won the Leader of the Pack social media “likes” award for its video.
Programledare: Andreas Lindahl. Vad tror du? Varför debatteras inte fildelningen längre? Kommentera!
