You can be the best leader EVER, but who can do anything on their own? You need a village. -Vanessa Calderon-Rosado, PhD Welcome to the story of Vanessa Calderon-Rosado, a trailblazing Latina with a passion for social justice and for creating community. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, she's got a PhD in public policy and has proudly served as CEO of Inquilinos Boricuas en Accion (IBA) www.ibaboston.org for the past 20+ years. One of the largest and most successful Latina-led non-profits in our country, IBA is a national model of economic development with a mission to change lives by providing high-quality, affordable housing, educational programs, and exposure to the arts. In this interview, Vanessa shares the pride she feels when she sees people's lives transformed by the services IBA provides. Shelter is more than a roof over someone's head, says Vanessa. “It's about building vibrant, safe, healthy communities where people can thrive.” Raised in San Juan in a loving but strict household, Vanessa and her older brother were surrounded by a huge extended family that included grandparents, aunts, uncles, and lots of cousins. Her mother was a nurse, and her dad owned car dealerships. The values her parents instilled revolved around the importance of hard work and the morale obligation to give back. Vanessa came stateside to receive her graduate degree from UMASS and her doctorate from Cambridge College thirty-two years ago and never left. The mother of two sons, Vanessa says that her greatest work has been as a parent. “Motherhood is not for everyone, but it is for me. A good life is leaving behind seeds that will continue to grow.” As a trailblazer and social justice champion, Vanessa stands on the shoulders of the many women who have come before her. “I need to do this work,” says Vanessa, “it keeps me going.” For 23 minutes of non-stop inspiration, just hit that download button. #socialjustice #trailblazer #shelter #puertorico #latina

We return as the mystery deepens! Holmes and Watson have been called from their chambers at 221b Baker Street by Inspector Lestrade to investigate the apparent suicide of a young gentleman at a Cambridge College. On arriving, they find Mr. Martin, the deceased, in his chambers, slumped over his desk, dead from a single gunshot wound to the head. The door had to forced by Mr. Potter, the porter, and no-one else was found in the room with him at the time of his discovery. Investigating the scene, Holmes finds a priest's hole, common enough in the older Cambridge colleges, and a button. Are they something? Or are they nothing? Further investigations lead Holmes to the college boathouse where he learns from Mr. Pitman, that young Mr. Martin had just been awarded his seat in the bows of the Cambridge crew for the Boat Race. Mr. Muttlebury goes on to explain the intricacies and appeal of rowing to Mr. Holmes ... and the vital importance of the bow oar in any boat. As they walk back to Cambridge, Holmes mulls over what he has learned ... ... is it something, or is it nothing? The mystery deepens ... (In last weekend's men's race, the press / media liked the Parrish brothers having a father who rowed for Cambridge. Maybe turns out the more significant help was having a mother who had been a very good @ULBC cox ... ? Just saying ... ).

My guest today is the Chief of Minority Business and Workforce (division office of economic impact and diversity) at the US DOE, Shalaya Morissette. Prior to her role at the DOE Shalaya was the Senior Technical Inspector at the Gas Pipeline Safety group for National Grid USA. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master's in Education from Cambridge College and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology with Excelsior College. On this episode of the Clean Power Hour, Shalaya joins Tim Montague to discuss opportunities that minority groups in the US have when it comes to the clean energy transition through the DOE, how to convince people of color to take up the clean power baton, and much more. We must become more intentional about diversity and inclusion in clean energy and Ms. Morisette's work is at the center of this. Clean energy is still dominated by white men. Blacks represented 8 percent of clean energy while they are 13 percent of the workforce. According to a report by the National Association of State Energy Officials, only 25 percent of energy workers are female, compared to an overall average of 47 percent in the workforce. Given the incredible job growth of the energy sector, and the expected growth thanks to current government policies, the lack of diversity threatens women, Hispanics, and Black workers in particular. As the United States looks to build back a better, cleaner, more equitable economy, a renewed focus on increasing diversity in the clean energy sector should be an economic imperative. The US Department of Energy foresaw this need and released its first-ever Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Strategic Plan to underscore the Department's commitment to creating a workplace that celebrates Americans of all backgrounds in September 2022. KEY TAKEAWAYSHow Shalaya got into clean energy? The work that she does at the office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in the DOE Opportunities that minority groups in the US can use to get into Clean EnergyRequirements that you need to get access to these opportunities. The Beatles were an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1960, that comprised John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They are regarded as the most influential band of all timeand were integral to the development of 1960s counterculture and popular music's recognition as an art form. Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock 'n' roll, their sound incorporated elements of classical music and traditional pop in innovative ways; the band later explored music styles ranging from ballads and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock. As pioneers in recording, songwriting and artistic presentation, the Beatles revolutionised many aspects of the music industry and were often publicised as leaders of the era's youth and sociocultural movements. Led by primary songwriters Lennon and McCartney, the Beatles evolved from Lennon's previous group, the Quarrymen, and built their reputation playing clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg over three years from 1960, initially with Stuart Sutcliffe playing bass. The core trio of Lennon, McCartney and Harrison, together since 1958, went through a succession of drummers, including Pete Best, before asking Starr to join them in 1962. Manager Brian Epstein moulded them into a professional act, and producer George Martin guided and developed their recordings, greatly expanding their domestic success after signing to EMI Records and achieving their first hit, "Love Me Do", in late 1962. Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr all released solo albums in 1970. Their solo records sometimes involved one or more of the others; Starr's Ringo (1973) was the only album to include compositions and performances by all four ex-Beatles, albeit on separate songs. With Starr's participation, Harrison staged the Concert for Bangladesh in New York City in August 1971. Other than an unreleased jam session in 1974, later bootlegged as A Toot and a Snore in '74, Lennon and McCartney never recorded together again. Two double-LP sets of the Beatles' greatest hits, compiled by Klein, 1962–1966 and 1967–1970, were released in 1973, at first under the Apple Records imprint. Commonly known as the "Red Album" and "Blue Album", respectively, each has earned a Multi-Platinum certification in the US and a Platinum certification in the UK. Between 1976 and 1982, EMI/Capitol released a wave of compilation albums without input from the ex-Beatles, starting with the double-disc compilation Rock 'n' Roll Music. The only one to feature previously unreleased material was The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl (1977); the first officially issued concert recordings by the group, it contained selections from two shows they played during their 1964 and 1965 US tours. The music and enduring fame of the Beatles were commercially exploited in various other ways, again often outside their creative control. In April 1974, the musical John, Paul, George, Ringo ... and Bert, written by Willy Russell and featuring singer Barbara Dickson, opened in London. It included, with permission from Northern Songs, eleven Lennon-McCartney compositions and one by Harrison, "Here Comes the Sun". Displeased with the production's use of his song, Harrison withdrew his permission to use it.Later that year, the off-Broadway musical Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band on the Road opened. All This and World War II (1976) was an unorthodox nonfiction film that combined newsreel footage with covers of Beatles songs by performers ranging from Elton John and Keith Moon to the London Symphony Orchestra. The Broadway musical Beatlemania, an unauthorised nostalgia revue, opened in early 1977 and proved popular, spinning off five separate touring productions. In 1979, the band sued the producers, settling for several million dollars in damages. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978), a musical film starring the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton, was a commercial failure and an "artistic fiasco", according to Ingham. Accompanying the wave of Beatles nostalgia and persistent reunion rumours in the US during the 1970s, several entrepreneurs made public offers to the Beatles for a reunion concert.Promoter Bill Sargent first offered the Beatles $10 million for a reunion concert in 1974. He raised his offer to $30 million in January 1976 and then to $50 million the following month. On 24 April 1976, during a broadcast of Saturday Night Live, producer Lorne Michaels jokingly offered the Beatles $3,000 to reunite on the show. Lennon and McCartney were watching the live broadcast at Lennon's apartment at the Dakota in New York, which was within driving distance of the NBC studio where the show was being broadcast. The former bandmates briefly entertained the idea of going to the studio and surprising Michaels by accepting his offer, but decided not to.

The holiday season can be fraught for all kinds of reasons for so many. But just imagine how very alarming and emotionally harrowing it must be for those whose family members are in a cult. Perhaps you are, or perhaps you have friends or family who are (they may even be seeking to LEAD a cult themselves!) but at this time of year you'll more than likely have to spend time with them. What to do? Claudia Cragg @claudiacragg speaks here for @ Denver/Boulder/Fort Collins with about this book, ' but this content is helpful to all those in this situation. This is a thorough discussion of how #Trump, #QAnon and others use cult-like mind-control techniques to manipulate and maintain an unwavering support base. How is it that even now, post-election, Trump, with his highly documented failures, lies, anti-social behavior, remains the darling of right wing politics in the US. Hassan breaks it down delving into Trump's early influence of Norman Vincent Peale's "positive thinking", prosperity Christianity, to hisnsymbiotic relationship with Fox News. The combination of such odd bedfellows as the NRA, Christian fundamentalists, Russia and the Catholic Church, who form the basis of Trump's peculiar appeal makes for fascinating, but occasionally frightening listening and reading of the book. Steven A. Hassan, PhD, MA, M.Ed., LMHC, NCC is one of the foremost authorities on cults and mind control. He has been involved in educating the public about mind control, brainwashing, and destructive cults since 1976. He holds a Master's degree in counseling psychology from Cambridge College, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). Steven received a Master's in 2020 from Fielding Graduate University. He later earned a doctorate in the Organizational Development and Change (ODC)program at Fielding's School of Leadership Studies. Hassan did a TEDxBeaconStreet talk in 2018 entitled: Is Technology Controlling Your Mind? He was a participant in the "Dismantling QAnon" TEDXMidAtlantic program in 2020.

Can understanding the nature of influence support people in cult recovery? Dr. Steve Hassan, former cult member, author, educator, and world authority on cults will be our honored guest throughout this season . His published works include: The Cult of Trump: A Leading Cult Expert Explains How the President Uses Mind Control, Combating Cult Mind Control: The Guide to Protection, Rescue and Recovery from Destructive Cults, Freedom of Mind: Helping Loved Ones Leave Controlling People, Cults, and Beliefs. Today we are going to discuss his dissertation published January 2021: “The BITE Model of Authoritarian Control: Undue Influence, Thought Reform, Brainwashing, Mind Control, Trafficking and the Law.”Our focus today is the BITE model, which refers to Behavior-Information-Thought-Emotion control. Dr. Hassan developed BITE as a model for evaluating degrees undue influence. Gerette references the book Influence: Science and Practice by Robert Cialdini. Steven Hassan, PhD is a mental health professional and expert in undue influence tactics used by authoritarian leaders and destructive cults. Dr. Irle Goldman is a licensed clinical psychologist and psychotherapist who has been teaching students at Lesley University and Cambridge College for 50+ years. He brings to his work - and to this conversation - a gift of loving presence. This gift of being curious about what's arising in the moment in a way that allows all of us to see new possibilities in our lives. But what was really fun today was to hear him start to unpack his own emerging theory about what's actually happening in psychotherapy. In that relationship between the person who's seeking healing and the person who's offering healing, and how much really exists in the relationship between the two. This is a wide-ranging, playful, expansive, oceanic conversation. It exists with the possibility that we are all connected and making waves in each other's lives. The more that we can swim into that and get curious about that - as opposed to trying to control it or repress it - the more we open up to a world of possibility that is diverse and beautiful, and allows for the widest range of human joy that is available to us.Get Connected:The Wonder Dome Newsletter http://bit.ly/3dTfdPiFollow Andy on Twitter http://twitter.com/cahillaguerillaLike us on Facebook http://facebook.com/mindfulcreative.coachNotes:Watch The Gloria Tapes youtu.be/NFT89grAUOICarl Rogers simplypsychology.org/carl-rogers.htmlFrederick Perls en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_PerlsAlbert Ellis albertellis.org/about-albert-ellis-phd
This has been an exceedingly difficult season in our nation's history when it comes to rising racial tensions, the effects of a pandemic, and lockdowns. The pain people are dealing with from all that has and is happening is real. In fact, I would go as far as to label it trauma. My guest today is Denise Dixon. During her studies at Cambridge College in Boston, she did extensive research on sexual abuse and its implications in learning environments.
