Ruth Nelson is an American volleyball coach, innovator, teacher, motivator, sports marketer, fundraiser and visionary. From making an impact on the juniors scene, to accruing over 500 wins coaching at the collegiate level, all the way to the pros and USA national team, the half of a century's work in her wheelhouse is well-documented. She is the innovator of BYOP (bring your own parent) - a junior's system where the parents assist in the process and player development of the junior. She is in the hall of fame under multiple volleyball institutions, including USA volleyball, and AVCA. Tune in, as chat up "BYOP," the parental learning curve of the sport their child plays, how coaches can navigate emotional investment in their players, parents and players understanding a "team commitment," why some kids are excited to come to practice and some are not, avoiding position specializations at certain age groups, avoiding 'making everything about you,' remembering Flo Hyman, our love for long time coach Mario Trebit, where coaches and role models cross paths, the money made in coaching in the past vs today, being a coach vs being a trainer, knowing that success is harder for some more than others, teaching offensive and defensive systems, why female players are smarter than the male players, and MORE!

In this episode, Mixtape and Johnny Flores dive into the latchkey kid mentality, what it means to be parented by movies, and genital equality, while Johnny successfully coins a new title for that Tarantino classic, Reservoir Dogs (1992)! Other movies discussed include Flash Gordon (1980), TMNT (1990), and The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love (1995). Johnny is the host of the Graphic Novel Explorers Club podcast along with two other nerds known as Aubrey and Dennis, and can otherwise be found consulting podcasts and petting dogs. Johnny would also like to remind you to pay creatives, in the spirit of which Mixtape will remind you: BYOP has a Patreon! It's been a busy week here around the 4Thangs HQ and today is no different. This time? We got the pills....BYOP stops by More Thangs to talk about their new project. We can't call it an "avatar project" even though it can be USED on your avatar. These are some of, if not the first, NFT's that are built to bring visual creativeness to your current avatars, including pics, VR experiences, etc. Dropping Friday! Btw, worth noting, this is also the debut of Danny Ukes on 4Thangs. When we comes back we'll make sure to get the clicks and pops out but for now, this is what you could consider a sneak peak into the current world of Danny. It's about to get trippy, mane. (More Thangs guests have agreed to contribute to the show so this thing can keep moving forward. For the sake of transparency... Got a problem with that? Too bad bruh)

Our podcast will invite different guests from the creative world to hear about their artistic experiences, as well as the ups and downs of creating their own success stories. There will be great stories, valuable lessons, but most importantly, we will be celebrating kindness with lots of laughs along the way. We want to make people laugh and smile but most importantly we want to inspire the dreamers out there. The ones who have been beaten down by the big business and feel they don't deserve a success story!
