Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies
Would you like access to our advanced agency training for FREE? https://www.agencymastery360.com/training What if the secret to finding exceptional agency talent lies in conducting fewer interviews? Finding exceptional talent is perhaps the most formidable challenge in running an agency. When hundreds of applications flood in, the absence of an efficient screening process can transform talent acquisition into an exhausting ordeal of endless resume reviews and interviews. The same is true for prospective clients. Do you have a process for screening them to see if they're the right fit? Or do you find out too late that you're working with the wrong ones? Today's guests went have found success in both hiring and client retention by developing a filtering process that not only saves time but consistently identifies great matches. Listen in as they explore the highs and lows of running an agency, the impact on personal relationships, and their commitment to a "business for good" initiative. Alex Melone and Andrei Marin are the co-founders of CodeCrew, an email marketing agency that works for the betterment of the world by driving real, sustainable, and exciting growth. They share their journey of starting an agency and reflect on the challenges of entrepreneurship, particularly the cutthroat nature of business that contrasts with their initial idealistic approach. In this episode, we'll discuss: Learning that a “bad fit” client is the result of a bad process. A strategic filter to break free from interview fatigue. Mastering team retention. Subscribe Apple | Spotify | iHeart Radio Sponsors and Resources E2M Solutions: Today's episode of the Smart Agency Masterclass is sponsored by E2M Solutions, a web design, and development agency that has provided white-label services for the past 10 years to agencies all over the world. Check out e2msolutions.com/smartagency and get 10% off for the first three months of service. Why a Bad Fit Client is the Result of a Bad Process Alex and Andrei's journey into agency ownership was driven by a desire to address the inefficiencies they had observed in their previous agency roles. However, as they navigated the complexities of running their own agency, they encountered challenges they had not anticipated. One of the most striking revelations was the cutthroat nature of the industry. Their initial idealism was met with client relationships that deteriorated due to minor financial disputes, rather than the collaborative and positive environment they had hoped to foster. The duo realized that a "bad fit" in an agency-client relationship stemmed not from the client themselves but from the processes and criteria used to select them. As a result, Alex and Andre now put greater effort into thoroughly vetting prospects. They realized their initial conversations with potential clients — often limited to just a few hours — were insufficient to gauge the long-term compatibility of the partnership. When it comes to talent scouting, they emphasize the importance of referrals from existing team members, as these connections often yield leads that align more closely with the agency's culture and ethos, increasing the likelihood of forming partnerships that are not only profitable but also enjoyable and fulfilling. Weeding Out the Wrong Candidates in the Hiring Process Finding and retaining talent has proven to be the most challenging aspect of scaling an agency, a reality that surprised Alex and Andrei. With their agency inundated with applications, the traditional hiring process became overwhelming and inefficient, losing time with candidates who lacked the qualifications or initiative needed for the role. To streamline their candidate selection, they've recently integrated video screening into their hiring process, which has turned out to be a game-changing innovation that helps enhance overall efficiency. Instead of sitting in a 40-minute interview with candidates they can see from the first few minutes are just not a good fit, they now review 5-minute video submissions, allowing them to quickly identify promising applicants before proceeding to formal interviews. Even though they do have other steps to this process, the video portion has helped them weed out people who just weren't a good fit. Only candidates who nail this part move forward to the formal interview and comprehensive testing that evaluates both technical skills and problem-solving abilities. Mastering Team Retention by Creating a People-First Culture At the heart of Alex and Andrei's agency success lies their commitment to working with people who share their values and goals. This philosophy has resulted in remarkable team retention, with many original team members still contributing to the agency years after its founding. The secret to their retention success lies in creating a vibrant workplace culture at CodeCrew that goes beyond traditional work relationships. Through contests, light-hearted banter, and team activities, they've fostered an environment where employees don't just work together—they enjoy the journey together. The emphasis on camaraderie and belonging has strengthened team members' commitment to the organization's goals. Their leadership style is marked by responsiveness to employee needs, which is how they came to implement “summer Fridays” an experiment that later evolved to “Fun Fridays” after a successful four-month trial where every employee gets two Fridays off per month from February through September. This flexible approach to work-life balance has yielded significant positive results, not only providing employees with much-needed time to recharge but also fostering a culture of trust and respect, which is exactly the kind of culture that Alex and Andrei were hoping to build. Well, 2022 flew by. As we get older I think we start saying this at the end of every year! Time flies, our babies grow up too fast, and we just keep getting older and older! But each year brings us so many beautiful new memories! So before this year ends, we encourage you to reminisce through 2022 with your kids. Go through your pictures, print them out and create a photo album with your little ones and show them how they started the year off. Show them how tiny they were and how much they have grown, reminisce through all the trips you've taken or all their 'firsts.' It's the most wonderful time of the year! Tis' the season of giving! So, this week we share a fun way to teach your kids the importance of giving while also making way for the new toys coming into the home during the holidays (be proactive before you add to the clutter mamas). You can also model generosity and how beautiful random acts of kindness are by making some goodie bags for people as a family and paying it forward. You can hand them out on the street or place them in hiding spots a stranger might come across them like at the coffee shop. So many times we think we can only give when we have an abundance but it makes the world. Drop some toys off at the shelter, or pack some healthy snack bags for those that are stuck outside this cold season, or hot depending on where you live. Get rid of jackets/coats/boots that no longer fit to keep someone else warm during this winter season. Let's teach our kids how good it feels to give even when we don't feel we have an abundance to give from. It's usually the people with the least that give the most. Happy holidays families, we hope you enjoy this activity with your littles, and please do not let it stress you out. It should be joyful. Remember to be patient parents! Making and taking space in my business has been the greatest gift that I have given myself and my creative projects, including my podcast! This past summer I took for months off and went to long dreamed of places like Peru, and Scotland and also got to take time to really relax, plan, create and take extended time with family and friends. Sage Polaris has been my inspiration for developing this more spacious way of being and living and I'm experiencing it as a more "feminine way" of leading and balancing my life and business, so I invite you to join me as I explore this concept through several episodes this season. I've come to see how depleted I always was and how I had become my own worst boss when it came to my business. I was overwhelmed, uninspired and exhausted all the time, and never felt like I could take time away - which is exactly what we are conditioned to do as business owners and "industrial workers”- especially if you happen to be a generator type in human design. Experts like Sage helped me understand how to automate and streamline my business and help me identify areas where I could use some additional support. Once I began to taste what it felt like to automate certain things, I began to have more space for rest, fun, creativity, and so much more. The big shift for many entrepreneurs is setting the foundation from which they can scale their business. Sage Polaris is one of those professionals who is all about supporting other female entrepreneurs to create thriving a business that takes care of us and provides endless opportunity for rest and regeneration. I'm so excited for you to experience her magic! Listen in to this episode for the secret code to take advantage of a very special offer. How Sage became an entrepreneur How she got fired up to help women achieve their entrepreneurial goals based on what some guy said. The Book that changed everything and began to give her more confidence to set out on her own. How Sage realized she did not create her business to be her own worst boss. She began instituting "Fun Fridays" and started taking 4 months off. Lifecation is the word Sage uses to express the time she enjoys taking adventures and getting her head into the creative clouds How Sage partnered with her husband to redefine their roles in their parenting relationship in order to bring incremental change to her work/life balance. Why taking time and creating space allows you to make more of an impact and even earn more. How can we create a business that takes care of us? Why Sage wants the women in her life to out-earn the men in their lives because that money goes back to the community because women tend to do more generous things for others with the money they earn. Why templates are such an incredible way to assist us in making space for our businesses Why every entrepreneur needs to invest in "copy” and why templates are such a wonderful way to go. The Color Coded Copy System can help us identify the 4 types of buyers and how they think and how they purchase. Why Sage loves coaching entrepreneurs on how to bring a human touch to their business practices and get related to your clients and customers. How to grow your side hustle into your business. Learn about the Color Coded Copy System and how this particular episode invites women to close the gap with a special offer from Sage.
Welcome to Fun Fridays, in this episode, I am chilling with my girl Cameo Bobo as we get ready for the weekend. There are so many hats or wigs (lol) that we wear throughout the week. Sometimes we just need to relax and have fun. Join us as we talk about life, and the real things we deal with as women (like our hair, these kids, our relationships, and even what to cook for dinner). You never know what will come up. But that's us, we are complicated and fun and we like to go into the weekend with a fun Friday episode in our ears. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tisha-talks/message

Welcome, Randall and Scarlett here. This is us (not the TV show, lol), and this is also about you and your family. On MONDAYS, we are here to talk on hot topics that can really bring a Blended Family down, so as blended families, we can avoid or lessen the issues. God placed it on our hearts to start sharing the things we learned over a fifteen year journey in our blended family. In some episodes, we will also hear from our kids (now young adults) as they share what they were going through at the time, to maybe help you in your present. We also have FUN FRIDAYS where we share ideas on how to have fun connecting and dating your blended family. God showed us a while back that life is about the journey, not just the destination. Many blessings to you and your family, and we are so glad you are allowing us to join you on your journey! As many of you know, Majik Media shifted our client model to a profit-sharing, partnership model almost two years ago. The move was one of the best, most rewarding pivots I've made in my entrepreneurial journey. Obviously, the model isn't a fit for all businesses, nor do I recommend every creator out there to go this route. However, if you're considering a profit sharing model with your business, this 50-minute conversation from one of our community Majik Minds is going to be pure gold for you! We go in a lot of different directions, filling you in on the many nuances of turning your client work into business partnerships. Topics Covered During the Session: What is a usual partnership split? Ongoing revenue share with monthly subscription. How it works? Who provides the customer support in these relationships. Our proposal and contract process. How to keep things fresh as you continue to grow. Roles, responsibilities and where are the gaps? How does Majik provide team training. Who steers the ship? Our lifetime launch strategy for starting off with a bang. Our secret team communications & coordination space. Consulting vs. Client Projects vs. Partnership Projects and much more... The partnership model works best when you team up with people who are already established in who they are and what they do in the world... which means, you also need to be established. And if you're not established, don't worry. You can still find partners who aren't as far along and build your booming businesses together! Here are some more topics covered: You only have so much time. Develop your own superpowers. Our profits come from helping others, not from helping ourselves. I prefer to work closer with fewer influencers. Keeps things simple. Consider what is less/more stressful Sell your templates. Templates make non-pro's look professional. Choose to invest in projects you believe in. When you do the partnership model, everyone gets rewarded. Scheduling my time (outside of Majik media) – take one day a week that’s just for your favourite projects. I call it "Fun Fridays!" JOIN THE MAJIK MEMBERSHIP AT https://majikmedia.com/membership
