In this episode of Fishing Without Bait, Jim Ellermeyer and Mike dive into the transformative power of gratitude and what it means to live as a “high-frequency” person. Drawing from principles rooted in 12-step recovery and mindfulness, Jim explains how shifting your mindset—away from comparison, criticism, and complaint—can fundamentally change your thinking, relationships, and even your brain chemistry. Together, they explore how gratitude isn't just a feeling, but a disciplined practice that reshapes perspective and attracts more positive, authentic connections. The conversation also tackles real-world challenges: handling gossip, navigating negativity in professional environments, and learning the “graceful art of leaving” situations that no longer serve you. Through relatable examples and practical techniques—like redirecting conversations or simply saying “I don't need to know”—listeners gain tools to set boundaries without conflict. Jim introduces a powerful mindfulness exercise centered on prioritizing who and what you “nourish” in your life, emphasizing the importance of investing energy into supportive relationships rather than draining ones. This episode is a reminder that everyone is in recovery from something—and that choosing gratitude, awareness, and intentional action can lead to a more fulfilling life. This week on Fishing Without Bait, we continue our powerful conversation with returning guest Emily as she shares the next chapter in her daughter McKenna's incredible journey. From the uncertainty of the PICU to the first small signs of awareness, Emily walks us through the emotional highs and devastating lows of recovery. She recounts moments of hope—like McKenna responding for the first time—and moments where that hope seemed to disappear just as quickly. As the journey unfolds, Emily shares what it was like to advocate fiercely for her daughter in life-or-death situations, including a critical moment where speaking up quite literally saved McKenna's life. Through it all, time lost meaning, routines became survival, and resilience became essential. This episode also explores the long road of recovery—rehabilitation, regaining movement, and the emotional milestone of bringing McKenna home. But the journey didn't end there. Emily shares the next challenge: kidney failure, the transplant process, and her unwavering certainty that she would be the one to donate. This is a story of courage, advocacy, and the deep connection between parent and child—where love becomes the driving force through unimaginable circumstances. This is Part 2 of Emily's story.

Shane discusses burnout, stepping away from mixed martial arts, and the emotional toll of working in a system that no longer aligned with his values. The conversation explores the difference between a risk and a gamble, why doing nothing can be the biggest risk of all, and how betting on yourself—when done with clarity and integrity—can lead to meaningful change. Shane also shares powerful insights on separating people from behaviors, personal responsibility, and choosing purpose over financial comfort. In Fishing Without Bait Episode 496 – *Clearing the Etch-A-Sketch: Letting Go of What Isn't Ours, we continue Part 3 of our conversation with returning guest and Clairvoyant *Santina Grace. This episode focuses on healing trauma without rewriting or reliving the past. Through grounding visualizations, breathwork, and recovery-based insights, Santina and the Fishing Without Bait team discuss how emotional experiences can be deconstructed so they no longer control our present moment. Using metaphors like clearing an Etch-A-Sketch or rooting into the earth through mindful breathing, the conversation highlights how releasing emotional energy that doesn't belong to us creates space for clarity, neutrality, and joy. We also explore recovery as a universal human process — because everyone is in recovery from something — and how honoring yourself begins with learning to listen.

This episode revisits a topic I've done previously-- mindfulness, brain science & using adult coloring books. I bought an adult coloring book from Dollar Tree awhile ago & it was entitled ANTI-STRESS: Meditation through Adult Coloring Book by Dr. Stan Rodski. It mapped out the different states of the brain e.g. beta, alpha, theta & delta, the significance of patterns, shapes, colors & frequencies, etc. Coloring is so much deeper than we thought & it's not just for our children! haha --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/obsidian-queen/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/obsidian-queen/support
For Lenten Week, Psalm 130 gives exposure to both the joy and pain that took up residence at the same time, in Sue's life. As always, the episode starts out fun — but prayerfully this will move many of you to that place of hope. "A Song of The Stairway." What does that mean? You goin' up? www.sueduffield.com
First, let me start by saying this episode can easily be defined as one of the top three most insightful videos. We had various other topics to discuss but instead we really honed in on a few important topics that we felt were extremely important and that tied together with one another. We didn't waste much time at all and got right into the topic at hand which evolved around how mucus is associated with sicknesses as well as how fasting can be a resolution to this. Next we talked about our personal means for motivation throughout the day and what would be considered our peak times of productivity during the day. This topic appears to be vague of meaningless to some but it is important to be aware of this information for the simple fact that when planning out your day, you want to ensure your more hectic tasks are taken on in this period of time if possible. Next we discuss the lowest and highest times of our lives which leads to the next topic which is retention. We pretty much give an in depth summary of what retention is, the benefits associated with practicing it, ways this can be made easier, and lastly, why every man should try practicing retention for at least 7 days minimum. Meditation takes many forms: simple or complicated; structured or flexible; walking, sitting or lying down; silent or with chants or mantras; alone or in a group; awake or asleep; a few minutes, an hour or open ended; guided or free. My own practice has changed over time. For years I walked the Labyrinth at retreats and on my own and even used a finger Labyrinth at home. Now I often just look out the window or sit in nature and contemplate for whatever length of time feels good. When appropriate, I meditate by using special breathing exercises, sometimes with colors or chants to help me move negative energy out of my body and bring in positive energy. At other times, I use sound meditation where I play or listen to pure crystal bowls. The key is to find what feels good to you and what helps you connect with your essence. Adult coloring books is a new form of meditation that is appealing to a wide range of people. Please join us Thursday to learn more about this meaningful phenomenon.
