Sometimes you meet someone who just gets you. Like Tim Lebbon. A man who writes riotously good adventure-horror novels, and also likes running outrageous distances up big hills. What a pleasure it was to speak to him. The main topic of conversation is his new novel eco-horror novel, Among the Living. A story of ancient buried history and ‘intelligent' infection, it blends the paranoia of The Thing with the ragtag group heroism and intensity of Aliens. In short, it's good! Tim and I talk about eco-horror, about the biological menaces facing mankind in the future, we discuss how writing action helps with writing character, and I tell him why this book freaked me out so much. Oh, and we do spend some time talking about running up big hills. But we try and keep it relevant to the horror and the writing… Give me a break, how often do I meet a soul-brother like this? Enjoy! Among the Living was published on February 6th by Titan Books Other books mentioned: Eden (2020), by Tim LebbonThe Last Storm (2022), by Tim LebbonThe Hunt (2015), by Tim LebbonCome Closer (2003), by Sara GranThe Bang Bang Sisters (2024), by Rio Yoeurs  Support Talking Scared on Patreon Come talk books on Twitter @talkscaredpod, on Instagram, or email direct to talkingscaredpod@gmail.com Support the show

*Note new my new novel Nightmare City (co-written w/ Anthony Trevino out soon!* Welcome to a special bonus Top Ten list. Halloween 2022 is coming up and I thought we should talk about ten horror fiction novels (ok two short stories and a bunch of novels) I would like to see made as movies. There are some exciting adaptations coming up with Paul Tremblay's Cabin at the End of the World becoming a movie and we have recently seen Josh Malerman and Tim Lebbon's genius novel Bird box and The Silence get made. Sarah Pinbrough's Behind her eyes and more. I think modern horror is covered That's why everything on this list is about 15 years or older. Also, I would love to adapt Lovecraft, Barker, or King but that happens all the time so let's go a bit deeper. So here are ten projects I would want to make if Hollywood tapped me on the shoulder and said David make a horror movie based on something classic that already exists. I would love to see any or all of these but they start at 10 and I become more passionate about them as we go. •You can find my books here: Amazon-https://www.amazon.com/David-Agranoff/e/B004FGT4ZW •And me here: Goodreads-http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/2988332.David_Agranoff Twitter-https://twitter.com/DAgranoffAuthor Blog-http://davidagranoff.blogspot.com/

Part 4 of the 1930s Science Fiction series… Read it from Astounding August 1938 p. 60: https://archive.org/details/as_1938_08/page/n3/mode/2up In August of 1938 Astounding magazine ran a short story by the magazine's own editor John W. Campbell under the pen-name Don A. Stuart. While the story was purchased by the magazine's former editor this story Who Goes There would go on to become one of the all-time classics of Science Fiction and horror. It has inspired three movies already including the direct adaptation in 1982 by director John Carpenter into the cult classic The Thing. Joining me for this episode is a powerhouse panel of guests Brian Keene author of The Rising and the Lost Level books, Mary Sangiovanni The queen of Cosmic Horror and author of the upcoming ALIEN: Enemy of my Enemy tie-in novel , and Tim Lebbon author of The Silence and one of my top reads of the year The Last Storm. Tim Lebbon is a professional writer with more than 40 novels and a couple of Hollywood movies to his name. But the focus of our conversation this week is his latest work, a self-published book titled Run Walk Crawl: Getting Fit In My Forties.   At age 41, Tim was overweight and unfit. By the time he turned 50, Tim was 35 pounds lighter, having spent his fifth decade of life training for and racing in multiple Ironmans, marathons, and other crazy adventures.   Tim's story starts like so many men — for years he yo-yoed between fitness motivation highs and settling into unproductive habits. Tim's story is a fun, honest, and hopefully inspirational account of how he finally found a fitness lifestyle that worked for him.   Connect with Tim at https://www.timlebbon.net.

Oh Mon DIEU !!

They had known that the pillbox was in the woods, but for some reason they'd never got around to visiting it. Andy thought maybe it was because the older kids went there sometimes, smoking cigarettes and drinking cider and, so rumour had it, getting blowjobs from Mandy Sullivan. He wasn't entirely sure what a blowjob was—though his older brother Nick seemed to think it was something to do with sticking your tongue into your cheek—but those ideas were enough to keep the pillbox out of bounds. | Copyright 2014 by Tim Lebbon.
