Welcome to Episode 372. In this episode we are joined by the one and only Handy Greg. At the top of the episode we do go over the winners of the SpongeBob movie contest! In Good Pop Bad Pop for movies this week Brian talks about the new Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman movie The Father. We all watched Cherry on Apple TV+ starring Tom Holland. Cherry drifts from college dropout to army medic in Iraq – anchored only by his true love, Emily. But after returning from the war with PTSD, his life spirals into drugs and crime as he struggles to find his place in the world. Brian and Jake talk about the new documentary on Hulu from Soleil Moon Frye in Kid 90 which is an intimate look at young Hollywood starlets growing up in the 1990s, using hundreds of hours of footage captured by Soleil Moon Frye. And Brian and Greg discuss Land the new film directed by Robin Wright. In TV this week we discuss the new episode of Assembled: The Making of WandaVision on Disney+. Jake and Greg discuss Condor on Epix starring Max Irons who plays a brilliant, young, idealistic CIA analyst finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy that kills everyone else at his office. Can he, with no field experience, stay alive long enough to get to the bottom of it? We all watched The One on Netflix . Love — and lies — spiral when a DNA researcher helps discover a way to find the perfect partner, and creates a bold new matchmaking service. In News the director of the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie talks about fatalities in the upcoming film and it has us concerned. In Marvel News more set photos and videos of Thor: Love and Thunder are out there. We’re learning more about WandaVision with each interview. And Ryan Coogler talks about the struggles of going forward with Black Panther 2 without Chadwick Boseman. In DC News we’ve got an official Flash casting. The Snyder Cut was accidentally playing for some HBO Max users who were trying to watch Tom & Jerry. And in Star Wars news someone talks about the director switch for Solo and we aren’t blown over by the lack of reveals.
Now that we know the whole story, it's time to see how the creators brought WandaVision to life. We review Marvel Studios' Assembled: The Making of WandaVision before looking back on the series and sharing some final thoughts (for now). This includes a look at some of the bigger fan theories that didn't pan out, like Evan Peters not being Pietro from Fox's X-Men universe, and the reaction to what the story was versus what some thought it could be. Wanda Maximoff examined her grief and her relationship with escapism. Now, we examine our own relationship with our preferred source of escapism, the MCU, and discuss not falling in love with speculation at the expense of the story being told.
