In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) speaks to Dr. Nelly Naguib about how Bowen Therapy transformed her medical practice, shifting her approach from conventional medicine to holistic healing and empowering patients to take an active role in their recovery. For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/dr-nelly-naguib     Highlights from today's episode include: Dr. Nelly Naguib  They said Bowen doesn't work. So I will tell these people and challenge them. Just give me 15 minutes of your time, and I will show you that Bowen actually work. And whoever give you this wrong notion is like wrong. And then I remember some of my colleague will have headaches, and I do like the 15 minutes head protocol on them, and they get, Oh, my God, I don't need aspirin now, Manon Bolliger  I asked him before he passed, you know, what is the most important thing you've learned in all of your practice and in everything that you've done in medicine, you know. And he says to love your patient, you know. And I'm thinking, wow, okay, that's, you don't hear that in the way it is today, you know. Dr. Nelly Naguib  Bowen therapy is very powerful in the way is I'm giving the body the same sequence every time, and it's up to the body to heal in the way it wants. I'm not pushing the body to do certain things. I'm just giving it a message. But I believe in the innate ability of the body to heal   ABOUT DR. In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) speaks to Anne-Marie's about her journey with Bowen therapy, the different practitioners and techniques she has explored, and the evolution of the modality. For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/anne-marie-ferguson     Highlights from today's episode include: Anne-Marie Ferguson  07:50  I believe that the way we think about our health affects our healing, even the belief that we will get better. Manon Bolliger  09:37  at Bowen College, what I do is I teach not psychology, but I teach how to LISTEN to your body, which means you know, also observing your thoughts and how they interfere or not you know, Anne-Marie Ferguson  I asked her if I could use add the Bowen therapy technique, and she told me she'd always had hip pain, and I was able to see that the problem stemmed from the TMJ, so I made a few changes there, and around three weeks later, I got a Message from her saying her the pain that she had for years disappeared.   ABOUT: I was introduced to Bowen therapy at a wedding rehearsal in 2013 on the Gold Coast in Queensland when we lived there for a couple years.  I began a workshop with Robyn Wood who was an instructor with Bowtech. I continued on to receive my diploma and attended many courses trying to understand how this modality worked. I had some great outcomes. My husband and I have worked as missionaries in Mexico for many years. We work with the Tepehuan group. My husband is fluent in their language and so we are often traveling to visit family or churches so have lived very unsettled for a number of years with our 4 children who are now adults. Bowen therapy courses have introduced me to many other therapists who are curious about what works, what doesn't. I began hearing about the Emmett technique and in 2015 i believe I took my first course with Ross Emmett in Seattle and then began attending several workshops amazed at the releases that we all experienced. In 2017 my husband and I thought we would finish our work in missions so we moved to Abbotsford for just a year when he found a better job back in Melbourne through connections and we moved back to Australia again in. 2018. I studied a one year remedial massage program and worked in a spa. I was also offered a job with a naturopath and would work from home as well. We were there until October 2021 when we lost our jobs due to the craziness of Covid. We then sensed we should volunteer back in Mexico and make ourselves useful. We returned to Chihuahua to train Latins to reach out to their own people and in August of this year we have returned to Canadá for another period and are looking at how we will continue the work in Mexico. Throughout all the moving I always have opportunities to practice Bowen informally. Core purpose/passion: My mission as a Bowen therapist is to provide a therapy that is valuable and creates a change. Something should always change as a result of the session. The client should either experience reduced pain, less inflammation, more range of movement, a feeling of lightness perhaps or balance. | Facebook |     ABOUT MANON BOLLIGER, FCAH, RBHT  As a de-registered (2021) board-certified naturopathic physician & in practice since 1992, I've seen an average of 150 patients per week and have helped people ranging from rural farmers in Nova Scotia to stressed out CEOs in Toronto to tri-athletes here in Vancouver.  My resolve to educate, empower and engage people to take charge of their own health is evident in my best-selling books:  'What Patients Don't Say if Doctors Don't Ask: The Mindful Patient-Doctor Relationship' and 'A Healer in Every Household: Simple Solutions for Stress'.  I also teach BowenFirst™ Therapy through and hold transformational workshops to achieve these goals. In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) speaks to Russell Sturgess, about healing with Bowen through the soul. For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/russell-sturgess2   Highlights from today's episode include: Russell Sturgess  that's where our suffering happens, we're actually looking for in wealth and power, in love in success, we're looking for our happiness outside of ourselves, which is bizarre, because our intrinsic self is happiness. Our sole being is that it's in here, it's not out there. And then, once you understand and have grasped the whole notion that our happiness is within Russell Sturgess  They're having a painful experience. So, what happens is we turn up and we apply this technique, and we try to fix people, and this is going to be one of the hardest things for me to get across to anybody is that you're not fixing anybody. All you're doing is opening windows of opportunity. This is what a Bowen therapist does. Manon Bolliger  19:30  when you're in connection with another person on the table, we know mechanically some of the impacts that you know that Bowen triggers, like the piezoelectric effect or all of that we know that there's you know, a frequency   ABOUT: From his teens, Russell demonstrated an understanding of agape (unconditional love) that defied his age. His upbringing saw him channel his passion into complementary health, as well as religion. Russell now serves as a spiritual director, using the path of the Beatitudes as a way to help people sustainably remember to be kind to themselves, to others and to the planet. Healing is listening, which is being aware.  Ignorance, avoidance and our attachments void our capacity to be aware, resulting in suffering. Russell specializes in a combination of Bowen Therapy (his interpretation called Fascial Kinetics), Osteopathic Massage, and Reflexology. He brings almost 50 years of healing experience to what he offers. Today I'm delighted to be joined in conversation by the amazing Angie, a Bowen Therapist from Adelaide, Australia. If you've never heard of Bowen therapy than join us to explore how it can help you “get rid of the issues in your tissues”. This gentle yet powerful modality, is suitable for all from babies to older people & even animals, has an incredible relationship in supporting the fascia in the body. Fascia is a remarkable web-like tissue that interconnects organs, muscles & more, but it is only more recently that science is starting to understand it's importance to the functioning of our bodies & helping us to understand the true power of healing modalities like Bowen Therapy. Angie is passionate about the mind & body connection, working with the root of an issue rather than just the symptoms, she supports her practice with essential oils, understanding of meridians, muscle testing & the importance of hydration. We also explore how stress & trauma affect the nervous system & how Bowen therapy helps to give the body space to reset & feel safe, whilst also helping alleviate physical pain which can shift us back into the parasympathetic nervous system or “rest & digest”, opening up space for the releasing of stored emotions. She reminds us of the importance of caring for ourselves. She isn't here to “fix” you but to support you  to feel empowered in remembering who you are & what you are truly capable of, a gentle reminder to simply Believe in yourself. Learn more about Angie:Angie is a passionate Bowen therapist based in Adelaide, South Australia. In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) chats with Russell Sturgess, about healing with Bowen through the fascia, the skin of the soul.  For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/russell-sturgess      Highlights from today's episode include: Russell Sturgess I like to use the analogy of the blue sky, our blue sky is our soul. It's blue. And it's like that all the time, you know. But what we have is all of these clouds of human filters that come over. And sometimes those clouds are storm clouds with lightning and thunder, and it covers up the blue sky.   Manon Bolliger Because the force of healing is so strong, that if you're attuned and listening and seeing it, you can't go wrong. I mean, you're part of this circuit. (to learn more about how to LISTEN to your body go to YourBodyMindReboot.com   Russell Sturgess So, the journey, and in fact, the journey is a very simple one, all you got to do is step back and become the observer. And in fact, this is one of the primary skills that anyone in healing absolutely must possess is the ability to step back and be the observer of themselves, and of other people.    ABOUT RUSSELL STURGESS:  Russell Sturgess has been described as a thought leader in Western Mindfulness. He was first exposed to the principles of awareness and mindfulness in the late eighties when providence led him to study Attitudinal Healing with Dr Gerald Jampolsky M.D. in Tiburon Ca. and Susan Trout in Washington D.C. Russell established a Centre for Attitudinal Studies in his home town in 1989 and alongside his clinical work in Osteopathic Remedial Therapies, he taught awareness and mindfulness practices for over a decade. As the adage goes, you teach what you have to learn. While studying Attitudinal Healing with Susan Trout, Russell's interest in symbology was ignited. One book that really caught his interest was Sallie Nichols' book Jung and Tarot. The revelation that the trump cards of the Marseille Tarot had a symbolic link to Christianity became an exciting prospect. This was in spite of the fact that in the religion of his upbringing, tarot was thought to be evil. Over the next decade Russell pursued an enhanced appreciation of the symbolism enmeshed in the Marseille Tarot and was inspired to write a book, given the insights he had gleaned during that time. One of the key insights was the idea that the major arcana were obstensibly 'portable stain-glass windows' that taught how it was possible to have mindfulness create a love-centred life that was sustainable.  Website | Facebook | Instagram | Linktr.ee | YouTube |   ABOUT MANON BOLLIGER, FCAH, RBHT  As a de-registered (2021) board-certified naturopathic physician & in practice since 1992, I've seen an average of 150 patients per week and have helped people ranging from rural farmers in Nova Scotia to stressed out CEOs in Toronto to tri-athletes here in Vancouver. I also teach BowenFirst™ Therapy through Bowen College and hold transformational workshops to achieve these goals. In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, CBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) speaks with Ron Phelan, Bowen Therapy Health Practitioner and International Instructor For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/ron-phelan     Highlights from today's episode include: Ron Phelan  But what Dr. Stack's approach was, he said, Forget about the teeth, the teeth, are not...their secondary to the jaw. His approach was if somebody came in with a dysfunction, he would look at their teeth, obviously, you look at their jaw take MRIs and X rays, and then say, right, the jaw is in the wrong position Ron Phelan  that means that yeah, a lot of the you know, things like lower backs and problems can be coming from the jaw. In fact, the work we were doing in the UK, I was working in the UK for seven years in a dental clinic and in amongst my teaching commitments, and we were finding there that about three quarters of people with TMJ dysfunctions, three quarters of those TMJs was causing problems throughout the body. Ron Phelan  at the end of the day, they will do one little procedure which I would say is 5 minutes with the primary move being the one on the jaw and I would say 96% of the time everything changes on that person everything bounces out. And I don't know any other technique that can have such a profound effect on the body that the TMJ will have in that instance. ABOUT RON PHELAN: Ron Phelan has been involved in the natural therapies industry since the early 90's, trained in various remedial massage techniques and also MORA® biofeedback therapy. In 1996, Ron trained in the Bowen style of work and from 1998 has practiced  Bowen in the Geelong region of Australia where Mr. Bowen worked for 26 years. He has been involved in researching the origins and experiencing the variations of the work through his contact with four of Mr. Bowen's students as well as treated many of Bowen's original patients. In July 2014, Ron was inducted in to the Massage hall of fame in Las Vegas for his work in the Bowen area.   After practicing massage and Bowen for nearly 10 years, Ron started added to his practice, by teaching an interpretation of Bowen outside of Australia. A chance meeting with renowned orthodontist, the late Dr. Brendan Stack of the USA, started a 16 year friendship and Ron was invited to take training with Dr. Stack. This amazing opportunity gave him a special insight to Dr. Stack's techniques when had won him praise around the world. Using analytical skills, developed from an Engineering background, Ron was then faced with the task of developing a unique approach to bring the orthodontic principles into the realm of the Bowen therapist. This proved to be highly successful and the results improved the treatment outcomes substantially. He was invited to teach these principles in the UK and the first TMJ class was held in 2011. Since then “Practical Assessment Skill Courses, which includes the TMJ has been taught to Bowen and other allied health practitioners in 16 countries around the world.  Adding to the TMJ based work, in 2013, Ron presented “Hormonal Release – the Bowen way” for the first-time outside Australia. Practitioners from 30 countries have now taken this course. Core purpose/passion: Spreading the work of Dr. Stack to other practitioners to ensure that this work is carried on.  –       Website |  Facebook  |    ABOUT MANON BOLLIGER  As a recently De-Registered board-certified naturopathic physician & in practice since 1992, I've seen an average of 150 patients per week and have helped people ranging from rural farmers in Nova Scotia to stressed out CEOs in Toronto to tri-athletes here in Vancouver. I also teach BowenFirst™ Therapy through Bowen College and hold transformational workshops to achieve these goals. Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/phil-steward      Highlights from today's episode include: Phil Steward 05:55 Yeah, I don't believe I heal anyone. I believe I help give the people a nudge so they can fix themselves, because everyone has the ability to sort themselves out, to fix themselves. And sometimes you just need to give them a nudge. Phil Steward Because, you know, you can release one area of the body a lot better when you've taken all primal restrictions that are attached to it away. Otherwise, you can just waste a load of time trying to release an area that's being held tight by everywhere else. Phil Steward You know, you can use simple analogies like I use the suspension bridge analogy for the Skeleton. Skeleton suspension bridge. Where a chiropractor and osteopath to try and crack the deck of the bridge, which is your skeleton back into place. Where I adjust all the cables, which are the soft tissue and if you adjust the cables, then you'll straighten the deck of the bridge up or a bike wheel and spokes in the same analogy.   ABOUT PHIL STEWARD: Phil has been treating people professionally for close to 25 years. Within that time, he has developed his own “Healing Massage” technique. Phil works with a holistic approach that successful helped thousands of people including celebrities and even royalty to live a pain free life and gaining him a constant waiting list! It's like a magical reset for the body, powerful and effective, yet ever so gentle. You'll hear in this episode how it changed my own blood work, and supercedes anything I've personally experienced.  I'll be chatting with Joy Marcinkowski, a massage therapist of 15 years. Joy started specializing in Bowen work in 2012, she's now trained to teach the therapy technique, and has a passion for helping people with Bowen in ways that massage never quite helped. You'll love her sweet spirit and our conversation around this fascinating and incredibly effective therapy. Get ready to open your mind, and then run to find a Bowen Therapist near you.  Check out Joy on her website. And if local to Southern California, she travels! So feel free to book an appointment with her HERE. SUBSCRIBE to the "Know Better | Do Better" Podcast newsletter for upcoming guest notifications and special info you can only get as a subsciber. Jade's background is originally in law, which she studied at King's College. However, finding this career path unfulfilling, she went on to study Chinese Medicine and the College of Traditional Acupuncture. This lead her on a journey into Chinese Sexology and Tantra. Discovering the sexual wisdom of these ancient traditions, she was amazed by the poverty of the sex education she could access in Western Society. This took her on a journey to study and become an instructor with the famous Taoist Grand Master Mantak Chia. There, she discovered Tantric and Genital bodywork, and went on to study these modalities too. She developed her own system of Sexual Alchemy Bodywork, combining Tantric and Taoist Massage to elicit the same results as are achieved in years of meditation through a single bodywork session. Through her studies but more importantly experience with herself and her clients, she has become an expert on pleasure and orgasms. However, it is the potential of sexuality for personal development is what really fascinates Jade. She came to realize that sex is not about pleasure, it is about who we are. That our relationship with our sexual energy sets the tone for every relationship that we have. Jade is a certified acupuncturist and certified Tantric Journey Educator. She also has studied and holds qualifications in Bowen Therapy, Chi Nei Tsang and Karsai Nei Tsang as well as gynecological bodywork (with Martin Beaudoin), as well as being a Certified Universal Healing Tao Instructor.   More about Jade-https://linktr.ee/lotuslifeconsultancyhttps://linktr.ee/JadeLotusCoachingMore about Liz-Work- https://www.lizshealingtouch.com/Radio Show- https://www.voiceofvashon.org/raise-the-vibePodcast- https://www.buzzsprout.com/958816Facebook- https://www.facebook.com/raisethevibewithlizInstagram- https://www.instagram.com/raisethevibewithliz/Support the show

In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger (Deregistered with 30 years of experience in health), talks with Jill L'Esperance who practices muscle therapy using Emmett and Bowen techniques and MSTR (McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release) For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/sara-raymond     Highlights from today's episode include: Jill L'Esperance So, my understanding of that is when we can, if we're just working the muscle itself, and the brain still wants to keep it in protection mode or in fight and flight, it's going to very quickly go back to fight and flight. So, it would take numerous sessions, it would take long sessions to get a muscle to respond and to relax, then switching over to the methods that are used. Now the light touch approach. If we're working the correct points, we're resetting the nerve communication so that the brain can allow the muscle to relax. Right, then it's a lot more corrective and a lot more long lasting. It doesn't always hold 100% right off the bat, but we're helping to retrain that, you know, that muscle memory and the nerve communication from the brain.   Jill L'Esperance So, I work on finding the actual root cause of the problem, right, so somebody may come in with low back pain, but that doesn't mean that's where the problem is. So very quick assessment methods. Very noninvasive, I don't need to make a client, show me their full range of motion. You know, if they're, if they have shoulder pain, they don't have to move their arm for me to assess where the problems coming from and put themselves in pain. Right? So, right, I really like the quick and often visual, if not visual, very light, palpation assessments. And then the quickness of the response.   Jill L'Esperance 20:12 But yeah, you know, the biggest thing...that the biggest, the best explanation I have, again, is we're working specific points on the body to allow the body to do the healing. Right. So, resetting, that nerve communication, basically just, you know, applying pressure on the points that these founders were able to develop. The guys who developed these techniques, figured out these points that helped to reset that communication. Where these points aren't what's doing the healing, but it's giving the body the ability to correct itself.   ABOUT Jill L'Esperance I began my practice with national board certification in Medical Massage and Manual Therapy and after practicing this for four years I went on to additional training and became certified in Neuromuscular Release Therapy & and Swing Flex Power Golf, Sports Performance Therapy & SFT. In 2013 I began my training in NST & Neurostructural Integration Technique. I am now certified in NST Basic, Advanced and TMJ. Training in October 2015 in Textbook Bowen has taken my treatment approach to a whole new level. By adding assessments and combining treatment methods, with the primary focus on using “Bowen moves” I have seen a number of amazing outcomes and happy clients with great results in a number of unique situations. Adding The Emmett Technique in 2016 has helped to bring the Bowen method to a whole new level that I never knew existed and has allowed for even quicker results for many clients.   As of March, 2019, I am a Certified Advanced Emmett Practitioner. I am also an instructor of the Emmett Technique Module 1 through 6 classes, and tutor the EMM-Tech Short Course & Easy Muscle Management. For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/jenna-howe   Highlights from today's episode include: Jenna Howe I might see anywhere between 20 and 25 patients a week. And a large majority of them are Bowen based, some of them are just strict Bowen, I've got two sessions this afternoon, actually, that are just strict Bowen. And everything else is a combination. But Bowen has been the foundation of, of my entire healing career. And so, I always come back to that even if it's, you know, outside of the traditional teachings, I'm still infusing it with whatever I need, at whatever time I need. It's, it's always there.   Jenna Howe I was using the protocol, the concussion recovery protocol. I'm using Bowen but having to apply it to chronic situations and figuring out the nuances with these chronic situations and differences between men and women or older people younger people, car accident versus sports injury. And a lot of it was a lot of self-education. And that's kind of how I ended up grabbing up all of these other programs and certifications along the way, is because, you know, the concussion has, there's a lot of layers to that, depending on the type of person that you're working with.   Jenna Howe 17:28 And, in the unfortunate thing is that, by the time people come to see me, they've been suffering for quite a while. And they've been told by specialists and so on, that while this is just the way it is, it's never going to change, you're just going to have to deal with it. And that doesn't help anybody. And I've always been the type of person who, I believe there's a solution to every problem. I may not have the solution personally, but there's going to be a solution somewhere, somewhere, there's going to be a way to deal with whatever is going on.   BIO JENNA HOWE: Jenna approaches her clients with compassion, sensitivity and understanding and is dedicated to finding the root cause to her clients pain and discomfort and has a passion for health and wellness along with learning and educating. Jenna has a Diploma in Fitness and Lifestyle Management, a degree in Psychology, and has several post graduate certifications including: Concussion Health, Cancer and Exercise Recovery, Certified Bowen Health Therapist, Master level Neurokinetic Therapist, Certified ANF Pain Therapist, and is a Certified Yoga Therapist and is a Manual Osteopath. Jenna has been working with concussed clientele since early 2003 and has worked with countless people from all walks of life, ages and stages to get them back into the game of life, sport, and work. Jenna is currently in private practice in Victoria, BC, offering concussion therapy concussion consulting, acute and chronic pain services as well as fitness and wellness services. Jenna's love of learning and desire to help people means you will always find her upgrading her education and searching for new and innovative techniques in order to better serve her clientele. In this episode of The Healers Café, Dr. Manon Bolliger ND (retired*) , talks with Anissa Young who is a Bowen therapist, hypnotherapist, mind and soul coach. For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/anissa-young     Highlights from today's episode include: Anissa Young  So, the hypnotherapy and the Bowen therapy works so beautifully together. Because I mean, I know Bowen therapies designed to get you out of your fight and flight and back to your resting, relax, and repair. But hypnotherapy on top of that, like amplifies it, because they're already resting their mind, they're already in relaxation mode, mind and body before I even get them on the table. So even if I do a short, super short relaxation hypnotherapy session, I find that once they're on the table, they're already super relaxed   Anissa Young  08:49 I think because my hypnotherapist teacher said you know, once you find your therapy that works for you, you don't need anything else. You know, you don't need to look for...if hypnotherapy works for you, you do hypnotherapy. If Bowen therapy works for you do Bowen therapy. If you know chiropractic works for you, you do you go and take chiropractor. And I sort of thought well, but why aren't we mixing things? Like yeah, one thing can work for you 100% one thing can work for you. But what about if we if we did multiple things and we and we integrated them? You know how amazing would that be?   Anissa Young  13:58 I'm working even more on tapping into and helping the client to understand because half the time they don't understand that that's happening. And that could be what's happening. And that could be where, you know, it could be grief, it could be trauma, it could be physical trauma, it could be emotional trauma, and, and it's trapped in the body. It's been there for a long time, they've had this ongoing injury.   BIO: Anissa Young I have always wanted to help others. I was a teacher for 20 years. I ended up hating my life, hating my job. Anxious to go to work, stressed about stressing. I went to my Bowen therapist for migraines and stress and gallstones; my gallbladder would later come out and she said, “you could do this” and that was the beginning for me. As soon as I had my first practical module, I knew that this is what I wanted to do. I then wanted more….. hypnotherapy came next. And this feels really natural to me. I love calming people down, relaxing them and “fixing” them. I facilitate a women's once a month and I get so much from these. Core purpose/passion: Happiness! The Healers Café

In this episode of The Healers Café, Dr. Manon Bolliger ND, talks with Helen Dunne, Bowen Therapist.  Healing has to be holistic.  Treating one area makes no sense to me.  It would be like treating one area of water in a pool.  For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/helen-dunne   Highlights from today's episode include: Helen Dunne I always feel confident in my ability to deliver Bowen moves. And why I worded that way is that there's more, so I deliver the moves. But what goes on doesn't come from me, it's very much about the client, and at their level, so we were talking about personalities before and, you know, context and information and people. One thing I keenly observe is the personality of that person, whether I've met them before or not. And you know whether it's someone I know that I do a treatment on, I believe that their personality will determine their rate of receiving the moves, and how quickly or slowly their condition or ailment is resolved Helen Dunne But children are great to work on because my favorite answer from one of the children that I used to treat in Sydney was I feel different. And I thought what a perfect way to sum it up. You know, it is you do feel different. And I think why I like that. expected results, you know, if we take a Panadol, we supposedly have an operation to remove something that causes us a lot of pain, we tend to go through or use words that describe you know, how wonderful we feel. But I think feeling different also describes a fresh way of looking at our body. Helen Dunne  Like there's, it's either doesn't take too much to make us uncomfortable or to feel pain. So, when Bowen eases that, or removes it. People don't necessarily, especially if it's a few days after they've sort of eased and they just think, oh, I feel good today. And they may not make the connection, especially if they're new to Bowen, to Bowen treatment. And I've had other Bowen practitioners talk about this, like one woman who was working on her daughter's feet. And her daughter had her graduation, and she wanted to wear high heels. And she said, Mom, these shoes are so comfortable. In the mother saying no, it's the Bowen therapy I did on your feet that allowed you to wear those shoes. And I thought that's a really good idea that stayed with me, because I think people are so keen to go I'm fine now and off, they go back into their lifestyles. And they may not be aware or attribute, perhaps to Bowen.     BIO: Helen Dunne The first Bowen treatment I had didn't make sense to me as I had not experienced such a modality before and didn't understand how I was to relate to the treatment within my mind and body.  After 10 years of loving Bowen Therapy treatments  I asked the practitioner I went to about how it works to find out more.  That lead to doing the course with Margaret Spicer and becoming a practitioner myself. Core purpose/passion: I'm passionate about all living things: people, flora and fauna, and the creative environment that living things can create to inspire and stimulate.  I enjoy growing some of my food, gardening, watching things grow, the art in nature - colour, texture, movement, form.  I love music that resonates with the heart and mind. – Facebook |    About Dr. M (Manon Bolliger), ND: Dr. Manon is a Naturopathic Doctor, the Founder of Bowen College, an International Speaker, she did a TEDx talk "Your Body is Smarter Than You Think. Lisa Bowin is a member of the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia (BTAA) and the Bowen Association of Australia (BAA). Her first discovery of Bowen Therapy was after a minor car accident. Giving up on conventional medical treatment, her colleague recommended she try Bowen Therapy. It worked overall body alignment and posture of Lisa. Bowen Therapy became Lisa's treatment of choice. She used it to improve her bad posture. She was determined to learn this therapy and become a Bowen therapist. She has two key areas of interest with Bowen Therapy. Postural alignment and gait is Lisa's passion. Lisa loves to help people move without pain or injury for people who want to do long-distance runs or hikes and for those who walk to the shop. Lisa's blood has Essential Tremor. She has a 50% chance of her own hands shaking as she gets older. Her curiosity in the area has since developed into a determination to help more Essential Tremor sufferers. Her diploma research investigated how Bowen Therapy can help Essential Tremor. 29: Why I left Western Medicine for Natural Therapies

Below is a brief synopsis of my journey into natural medicine. Have a listen to the podcast chat between myself and Michelle Marsh where I share some of my personal stories and anecdotes. This is my journey and how I went from practicing Western Medicine into Natural Therapies despite the obstacles life threw at me which included constant moving, children, cancer, stroke and divorce. I knew from the age of 9 years old that I was going to be helping people and as a child I would go to the library and get books out that taught about the human body purely because it was interesting to me.  In high school I moved from Chile to Brazil and when they assessed me they put me a grade up. This proved to be one of the first ‘challenges' that life was to set for me as I had to learn both a new language as well as performing at a higher level.  After school, I almost didn't go into medicine. The caring part of my personality wanted to be a nurse, however my father had different ideas and was horrified at the thought of my abilities not being put into medicine.  I of course enjoyed all of the subjects in medicine but I took a keen interest in Microbiology. During my studies I had experience working in emergency and theatre and had a range of experiences from being  punched in the face by drunk patients through to caring for people who are in the end stage of life.  My Hindu late husband exposed me to Homeopathy and a holistic approach. With my late husband I lived in India, Germany and many other countries. In India I was exposed to the ‘freshness' of food in its natural state. I learned to cook from scratch and I noticed how unprocessed foods were accepted by the body more readily.  When we moved to Australia, in order to continue practicing medicine I would need to do further study. At this stage we had children however and I was already wanting to move into natural therapies so I enrolled to do Naturopathy majoring in Nutrition and Homeopathy.  It's safe to say I have functioned at a high level for a long period of time but it wasn't always smooth sailing. Living in India with my late husband's family wasn't easy. There was a big difference in culture and while my Western clothes were conservative they were still Western. I had to learn to grind spice and mill flour to make bread daily and I had chores which consisted of things like getting water from the street pump.  My late husband also made life difficult for me. He was not happy with my desire to study naturopathy and so said that if I choose to do it I must make sure I keep doing all the household responsibilities. I.e. cooking him 3 meals from scratch per day, staying home with the children and keeping the house impeccable. I also had to find a way to pay for my studies as he would not support them.  A year into my studies I developed cervical cancer, which became another bump in the road. Thankfully, I knew how to treat myself naturally. Soon after I had healed, I was pregnant with my fourth baby. I didn't return to study after my baby as my husband encouraged me to study nursing because it would produce a faster income (because of my medical training) than studying naturopathy.  It wasn't long before things got worse in my marriage and there was abuse on many levels. When divorcing I represented myself in court, with the help of a very good friend and gained full custody of the children. I found myself in a position again where I could not continue my studies and so I left nursing and applied myself fully to my jobs as a nursing assistant, interpreter and mother to my beautiful children.  At this stage I was working the night shift and caring for my 2, 5, 7 and 9 year old children during the day. Sometimes I wouldn't sleep for two days in a row.  In hindsight it wasn't surprising that one day I woke up paralysed down one side of my body. I was in hospital for 10 days after the stroke. When I went home I began to heal myself once again with natural medicine. While still recovering from my stroke, my old teacher from Homeopathy called and told me I needed to return to my studies. My teacher was adamant and so I returned to finish my diploma despite working two jobs, being a single mother and not being well. All of these difficulties enabled me to gain courage so I could become the resilient person I am today. Along the way I also had many people and moments which gave me the motivation to be the joyful, positive person I am. I have channeled all of these learnings into continuing my education and since graduating from Naturopathy I have studied something new every year, including Mineral Therapy (which became a cornerstone of my practice) Bowen Therapy, Bio regulatory medicine, Blood Analysis, Biological Medicine for Cancer, Essential Oils, Raindrop Technique, Relationship and Post-abortion Grief Counselling, Alfa Thermography, Genetics, Sound Healing, Mentoring and Mindset, Dermatology, Qi Gong and more. https://www.aurorahealingcodes.com/

She is also the host of The Awaken Podcast; the creator of The Awaken Jewelry line and owner of Freedom House Publishing Co. Keira believes that we all have a deep purpose that the world needs. And when we connect up to The Divine and remember our own inner Divinity, we can create massive change in this world.   Highlights from today's episode include: Keira Poulson (18:26):  And so for me, I feel so strongly that whether you want to call it a God or the universe or your divine self, there is a higher presence. And that being that is filled with the most immense love and can guide you. And that's where we need to tap into whether it is a God or the universe or whatever you want to call it. But there is a higher presence that we can tap into that will lead us, that will hold us. And we have to break all the ties to what we once thought was true, so that we can find the truth within ourselves.   Dr Manon (28:20): Bowen Therapy but it's not just physical therapy. We use the body to enter and release a whole bunch of things, you know, but one of my passions in the training is releasing the true innate healer within the practitioner themselves. Keira Poulson (36:16): To them. I would say you have everything you need inside. And to those who feel called to be leaders, but have been quiet and haven't shared their messages, I would say now is the time because it is from those who are willing to share their messages, to share their ways of coping and healing and, and these conversations that we're having right here right now, this is what's going to give the other people tools who don't have them yet. It's like a ship needs to be built. And some people have hammers and other people have no tools. If we have hammers, let's go and give them the hammers. Let's really start to share the tools that we've used to help us in our times of breaking so that everyone is now equipped. And for every person to know that if they were to take time every day, go inward and spend some time connecting to a higher source, whatever that is for them, that they will actually be given tools, tools that they didn't know existed that will help them move through this space.   Connect with Keira Poulson Web Site URL : www.keirapoulsen.com   About Dr. Manon Bolliger, ND: Dr. Manon is a Naturopathic Doctor, the Founder of Bowen College, an International Speaker with a TEDx talk in 2021, and the author of the Amazon best-selling book "What Patient's Don't Say if Doctors Don't Ask." In this episode of The Healers Café, Dr. Manon chats with Dr. Romi Fung, ND.  Highlights from this episode include:   Dr Romi Fung (08:53):  It's how we apply what naturopathic modalities and naturopathic principles there are but naturopathy is the use of, as it states natural or natural substances in supporting the body's own innate ability to heal. And under naturopathy or naturopathic medicine, there are principles that we abide by and that's what we call the naturopathic oath. So being first do no harm That whatever we provide, we assess for the risk of harm and making sure that whatever we suggest has the most minimal of harm possible. And then others involving, treating the root cause, doctor as teacher, which I'm very big on and so forth. And amongst naturopathic medicine, there are modalities that we utilize. So with physicians, conventional physicians and conventional medicine utilizing more so pharmaceuticals, even though naturopathic doctors are trained in the pharmaceuticals, we also utilize nutrition and physical medicine, counseling techniques, homeopathy. What else am I missing? Botanicals. Botanicals. Yeah. And so, and, and lifestyle because that's what we have to focus on in regards to focusing on the simplest, but also the foundations of our health. The pillars of our health. Dr Romi Fung (21:12): But this patient came in and literally within minutes of our consultation she bursted out in tears. She was going through a lot of stress, especially with family and she didn't know how to handle it. And she felt almost helpless. And for 30 minutes we talked about it. I thought it would give her the space for her to be heard. And for me to really understand like this is probably the important part, that I probably play a role more so than most other practitioners is allowing myself to be in the shoes of my patients. Dr Romi Fung (21:58): I'm trying to figure out what's really happening. And I thought to myself, you know, I had a bit of extra time. She's expressed a lot and she felt as though we can definitely do something, but I really felt like I couldn't leave her at that point. I was afraid or I was scared that she would potentially harm herself. And even though we have instances where we can contact professionals to make sure that they're properly addressed, I needed to do something that would get to her immediately. And that's when I said to her, let's get you on the table. I'm going to do a quick session on you. I'm going to do something called Bowen therapy. And we got to it. And I did the basic moves aims one, two, and three. And by the end of it, I looked at her and I looked at her face, she looked a lot more focused, and then she looked at me and she was like, I've never felt this clear before in like the past few months. Dr Romi Fung (23:08): And then she started tearing again. But then she told me that this is not because I'm sad, but these are tears of joy. And so it was from that moment then we decided, you know, let's get a plan going. And that's when I decided to add in the the naturopathic elements, making the nutritional work and lifestyle. But, and I mean I liked Bowen therapy as a standalone treatment as well as a combination because it's so complimentary. But by putting them together, you don't really know which one works and which one does it. About Dr Romi Fung, ND I am a Naturopathic Physician with a general practice at the Richmond Family Chiropractic. I support seniors with dementia, so they can live with a better quality of life.   I am a practicing Naturopathic Physician having graduated with a Doctor of Naturopathy from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, Canada's premier college in Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario. In this episode we meet Erin, whose fifth pregnancy was a triumphant homebirth following two caesareans and two previous losses, one of these a stillbirth at 20 weeks. Erin's birth with her eldest daughter was a planned public hospital birth, which ended in a traumatic emergency caesarean. For her following pregnancy she hired a private midwife intent on having a homebirth but was transferred to hospital after meconium was found in her waters. Immediately after experiencing her second caesarean she thought she would elect to have a third if she were to have another baby, however, by the time she fell pregnant with her youngest child, she had a change of heart.Listen to how Erin's story unfolds as she finally experiences the physiological birth at home she longed for and how her own VBAC journey inspired her career as an accomplished doula and student midwife. She has a wealth of knowledge in the birth space which she so generously shares with us in her interview.~ Notes ~Erin's webpage: https://www.facebook.com/birchtreebirth/**VBAC Birth Stories features women's lived experiences. Surgical interventions around the world continue to rise. The resulting scars never go away. They are an ever-present reminder of the day of that surgery. Scars also arise from accidents, wounds from wars and conflicts, personal attacks and many other traumas. Effective treatment of scar tissue is, for a big percentage of the population, left untreated and is probably the most neglected of bodywork skills for the manual therapist. McLoughlin scar tissue release has been described as a “giant leap forward" in the treatment of scar tissue. In this podcast episode, we will be speaking with Gail Tumes, a highly qualified instructor and practitioner of McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release and founder at Sumet Bowen Health Clinic. Or at least, it’s a sign that your body has started to heal your problem.   In layman’s terms, at least as I understand it, Bowen Therapy focuses on manipulating the fascia and freeing up your body’s communication pathways.   Certainly looks like it did that for me!   #therapies #manipulation #massagetherapy #wellness

What IS Bowen therapy and how is it different from massage therapy? This is a question Chris Reed comes across A LOT in his work. A specialised Bowen therapist for over 15 years, Chris has been spreading the word about the different treatment style and benefits Bowen therapy has to offer. Bowen therapy for many years had a low profile in the MASSIVE world of body therapies, but Chris is determined to change that and runs a Bowen therapy clinic in Geelong, the original hometown of the therapy’s founder, Thomas Bowen. Chris’s story began with what he describes as his ‘early midlife crisis’ at 35 years of age when he decided he wanted to be in an industry that was dedicated to the health and wellbeing of others. When his wife insisted there could only be ONE nurse in the family, Chris took the opportunity to shadow a Bowen therapist for a few days and he was BLOWN AWAY at the versatility of the therapy in treating such a HUGE range of people with different ailments and illnesses. Listen to Chris’s journey from travelling chef in his mid-30s to the successful Bowen therapist and advocate we’re speaking with today.

In this episode I’m chatting with the lovely Tracy O’Meara Smith who is a Perth-based Holistic Health Practitioner (www.silverdale.com.au/). This a a deep and meandering conversation with a woman who I have formed a beautiful connection with. We actually recorded this episode several weeks ago but I really wanted it to be the first episode released in 2017. Tracy shares deeply about her own healing journey and her spiritual journey.  This conversation takes on a life of it’s own and I know that I could sit down and record another episode with Tracy and it would be unique and magical again. I hope you enjoy the unfolding of this conversation. Tracy believes that women of this world are here to awaken and enlighten us and that it starts within the family. If we keep peace and harmony in our home, it is reflected everywhere. We talk about: How she embraces both the feminine and masculine part of herself Her experience from mental health issues to healing through knitting How she found psychotherapy, aromatherapy and energy medicine Her discovery and passion of Emmett and Bowen Therapy and also Flower Essences How her step towards helping others began through surrendering towards a way to health Why we need to honour our journey, as we’re all worthy of love and support When we find harmony within ourselves amazing things happen She shares how: She accepts people as they are She operates professionally from a sense of service, not allowing her own opinion to effect the healing Believing in who you are and what you do allows peace She enjoys learning more, staying fresh with ideas and how new clients are then presented to her When we heal others we take ourselves out of the equation as it’s not about us The modalities Tracy uses are – Bowen Therapy – works on connective tissue Emmett Therapy – uses the body’s natural receptors to find natural alignment Tissue Salts – work at a cellular level Flower Essences – takes subconscious to conscious through the vibration of certain flowers which are all powerful ways to help the body heal at a cellular level and help our bodies reconnect with our spirit and our mind. Tracy shares her daily self-love practices: 5 minutes daily in her sacred space, with a lit candle and a dynamic meditation Daily journaling Being light with life – giving herself a ‘break’, seeing the good in what she’s done and how far she’s come Tracy’s final word is; “No matter what you’re going through there’s always a greater wisdom, and even though we’re in amongst it, all is well and to trust that. Finding inner trust will give you the greatest foundation you can give yourself” To find more inspirations from Tracy please visit her website, Facebook page and monthly Blogs.

How to feel better? It's all about unconditional trust... with Don Deacy   This week I'm speaking to Don Deacy. Don's a three principles coach and also a therapist with many years of experience in all kinds of healing modalities such Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Bowen Therapy. After a lifetime of studying various martial arts at a superficial level Don started studying the martial art of Aikido in 1992 and teaching it in 1997. His passion for this martial art and his desire to understand 'chi', or as the Japanese call it 'ki', led to studying and qualifying in various healing modalities such as Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Bowen Therapy. Initially practicing these therapies as a hobby they quickly became a passion alongside Aikido. In 2008, with the help of his wonderful wife, Don came to see that raising a family, teaching a martial art, running a part time therapy practice and working full time was just too much and something had to give way. So with the support of his wife and family Don took the decision to leave the world of paid employment and set up a full time practice as a therapist.  Whilst working as a professional therapist Don came to clearly see the psychological dimension of illness. Feeling ill equipped to address this need he started searching for a solution. In 2011 Don was fortunate enough to come across Jamie Smart and was exposed to Three Principles understanding as uncovered by Sydney Banks. Jamie's wonderful work enabled Don to embrace this understanding and he began coaching using the Three Principles as part of his practice in 2012. In 2013 Don completed the Three Principles Trainer's Training (3PTT) programme run by Cathy Casey and Dr Mark Howard. As a result of Jamie's work, the excellent 3PTT and the many wonderful teachers he was exposed to over that period Don's professional direction has been profoundly changed. Coaching and teaching the Three Principles has become his primary activity and significantly influencing all the other aspects of his work. Today we're going to be talking about the desire to feel better versus the unconditional trust that we already are perfectly OK, perfectly happy! What you'll learn in this show: Don and I chatted again after the show and he'd expanded further on some questions I asked during the show. And his answers actually make a great summary of some of the great things you'll learn during the show! "What do I mean by grounding? Grounding is balance. An ease of movement and interaction with the world. From grounding comes the ability to flow, to extend our senses, to ride the waves, to take the knocks and keep our equilibrium." "What do I mean by spiritual? Spiritual is beyond the world of form as we see it in the moment. A connection to a far greater wisdom than our personal intellect. From the spiritual comes possibility, new understanding, hope and wonder that guides us and teaches us. "What do I mean by form? We can be conscious/aware of form but we can only be conscious of the the possibility within the formless. As soon as we try to be conscious of the formless we are in effect creating form. What comes to mind is a metaphor. The telescope. When we look through a telescope we see what we are looking at and that is in effect form. Now, there is much more out there than what we are looking at . What we see is what I would refer to as form. What we don't see is what I would refer to as formless. So it is possible to view form and formless as separate but that would be misleading. Form is born from the formless, as is enriched by it, like when we focus a telescope. Form is in effect our awareness which is an element of consciousness. Form is like truth in that it is time specific. The formless is infinite, it is the home of hope, of insight, of wonder, of possibility. The form is present and the home of the intellect. We can move a telescope and we can focus in and out but we must be aware that there is always more to see and what we are looking at we can always see differently. Form is the experience of life and the formless is the possibility of life. [mmmm, I love that! Lian] Form is our understanding in the moment, this is fixed and it has to be to allow us to navigate. As the saying goes, the map is not the territory, so the formless allows us to create new maps and indeed will demand that we do so. As a telescope on earth will allow us to see the universe in a certain way and depending on the location to varying degrees of clarity, the hubble telescope which is in space not only allows us to see the universe in much more detail is has demanded that we rethink everything we thought we knew about the universe!! So perhaps a shift in consciousness is like moving our telescope higher and higher into space. This must by its very nature change what we think we know about form."

Blue Rose Bowen Therapy

Do you or someone you love suffer from arthritis? Well having arthritis is no longer the debilitating condition it once was. It is no longer seen as consequence of growing old, or something to just put up with. In fact there are 3.85 million Australians that are affected and 2.4 million of all people suffering from the disease are of working age.  But there are things you can do now to regain the use of your joints that you had lost due to arthritis. ----more----Arthritis Australia describes Arthritis-related problems as including “pain, stiffness, inflammation and damage to joint cartilage (the tissue that covers the ends of bones, enabling them to move against each another) and surrounding structures. This can result in joint weakness, instability and deformities that can interfere with the most basic daily tasks such as walking, driving a car and preparing food.”The three most significant types of arthritis - osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout - account for more than 95 per cent of cases in Australia, but there are about 100 forms of arthritis. Aside from the three mentioned above, the most common forms of arthritis are: Ankylosing spondylitis Juvenile arthritis Systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus) Scleroderma Research suggests that early intervention can delay the onset of the disease and may reduce the number of cases of osteoarthritis by about 500,000 within 15 years. Some ways that have been found for helping arthritis are Exercise Glucosamine tablets Fish oil tablets Bowen therapy Diet Surgery Medication Bowen’s soaking method. I have personally found success for clients with a combination of Bowen Therapy, and glucosamine tablets combined with exercise. While it is not seen as a cure, this method has been especially good for treating osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid responds very quickly to just the Bowen therapy, but it often is painful for a couple of days after. The results can last years though. Thomas Bowen had a special soaking treatment for helping with calcification in joints and bunions. This treatment is great for helping with osteoarthritis.
