Send us a textThe kind of week where you fix a broken deodorant with sheer will, crawl back onto the Peloton, and somehow end up at a house party with caviar pie and pigs in blankets is exactly our tempo. We're juggling four-kid calendars, long drives to the wrong gym, and those quiet late-night moments when a red eye and a to-do list won't quit—and we still manage to squeeze in a laugh (or ten).We dive into everyday myths and trends that shape our lives more than we admit. SPF isn't “hours of protection,” no matter what your sister says. A Florida baby named "Six Seven" sparks a real talk about names, identity, and how choices age. The Bears-Packers game delivers a live lesson in sportsmanship for our kids, reminding us that community often shows up when the score doesn't. Then it's style time: poet core gets a vote, turtlenecks earn side-eye, loafers get love, and the universal joy of dresses with pockets becomes nonnegotiable. We share fit hacks—adjustable straps for uneven shoulders—and that electric nostalgia of wedding and communion dresses, petticoats and all.Work culture is changing too. After-work happy hour is fading as hybrid schedules and sober curiosity rise, but mentorship and camaraderie don't have to disappear. We talk better replacements—mocktails, coffee walks, bite-size gatherings that build trust without pressure. And yes, we go full foodie: Noma's $1,500 LA pop-up and its free table for young hospitality pros, plus our own kitchen courage, trying a classic caviar pie and admitting what we liked. It's comfort, curiosity, and a little chaos stitched together by humor, heart, and dresses that let us breathe. If this blend of real life, style smarts, and culture shifts hits home, tap follow, share with a friend who loves pockets, and drop a review to tell us your unexpected high this week.Mike Haggerty Buick GMCRight on the corner, right on the price! Southern caviar is wild, nutty, and...sustainable?

In “Southern caviar is wild, nutty, and...sustainable?” Gravy producer Irina Zhorov takes us to the Tombigbee River, where valuable paddlefish swim, and makes a case for caviar as an ingredient with a Southern pedigree. Every mature female fish makes roe—that's the term for their clusters of unfertilized eggs. But caviar, for purists, comes from an ancient fish called sturgeon. There are more than two dozen species of sturgeon, but the best-known caviars come from a handful of species native to Russia and Central Asia: Beluga, Sevruga, Kaluga and Osetra. These fish are diadromous, which means they can live in both rivers and seas. And historically they were caught in the wild, their roe processed into caviar, and eventually sent around the world. Though fish roe started out as poor people's food in Russia, it evolved to be synonymous with luxury, royalty. However, sturgeon were so overfished that it is now illegal in most places to import their wild-harvested caviar. In the U.S., too, several species of sturgeon were once dense along the eastern coast, in the Great Lakes, in California, and elsewhere. Indigenous tribes and white settlers alike consumed Atlantic sturgeon before a caviar rush in the 1800s diminished their numbers. It's illegal to fish for most domestic sturgeon. Today, more than 99 percent of caviar globally comes from farms, mostly in China. There are a few exceptions to this rule in the U.S. Small shovelnose sturgeon can still be harvested in some areas for caviar.  And paddlefish—which is not a sturgeon, but its close cousin—is fair game in some states, too. The fish live in the Mississippi River and its tributaries. While the U.S. has an available supply of wild-caught, high-quality caviar, it lacks a clear cultural context for how to enjoy this decadent treat. In this episode, Zhorov speaks to Mike Kelley of Kelley's Katch, a Tennessee caviar producer, and biologist Steve Rider, who studies paddlefish populations in Alabama, to learn about a food that's from the South but, paradoxically, not at all associated with Southern cuisine. Some people and companies are trying to educate American consumers about caviar and to modernize the way domestic consumers eat the food. That can include parties with caviar tutorials and introducing new, American ways to indulge, like with a dollop of caviar on Doritos. Christine Lemieux, one-half of the company Caviar Dream, explains how this delicacy can be for everyone. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Send us a textHere's a conversation with a restaurant growth operator who's spent 20+ years at the intersection of dining, loyalty, and partnerships. From helping launch LivingSocial's first outside sales footprint to expanding Square's Caviar gourmet delivery in Downtown LA, he's now at Rewards Network, where he runs dining programs for major brands across airlines, hotels, and wireless. The focus: predictable traffic, measurable spend, and cash flow that helps restaurants grow.We break down how these dining programs actually work—enrollment, card-linked offers, and the data that proves incremental visits—plus the funding model where Rewards Network pre-purchases members' meals up front to inject capital into restaurants. Expect practical tactics on filling seats, lifting average check, and turning occasional diners into regulars through A/B-tested offers and localized campaigns. His path runs from Phoenix to Pasadena to North Hollywood, with stints in Carlsbad, Del Mar, and Leucadia along the way. A Northern Arizona University grad with post-grad business coursework at Pasadena City College, he moved to Pasadena in 2002 to work at Charter Media and spent eight years there. He's a Burbank Chamber member, a longtime restaurant partner to owners across LA, and a dad to a Pasadena-born son—plus an outdoors guy who camps on his own three acres near Flagstaff. If you're a restaurant owner or marketer, this episode is a playbook: how to evaluate dining rewards, negotiate terms, track true lift vs. cannibalization, and stack channels (delivery, loyalty, email, social) for sustainable growth. Caviar. Is there any word — or food — that more quickly conjures up associations of luxury and opulence? But caviar isn't just a thing to serve on the yacht you don't own, caviar has a rich history. Once a snack only for Russian oligarchs, today it is found in more places and likely on potato chips. Eli talks with Sarah Mayo for a deep dive into the history of global caviar production; the ways in which the modern market is shaping consumption; and the endangered status of the fish responsible for this exotic dish. They explore the normalization of politics in abnormal times and the unsettling parallels between historical tyrannies and current authoritarian regimes. The discussion expands to the broader context of authoritarian tendencies, including those in the United States, revealing a worrying drift towards impunity, ritual humiliation, and performative sadism. The episode ends on a thought-provoking note, setting the stage for future discussions on resisting authoritarianism.----------TRUSTED CHARITIES ON THE GROUND:kharpp - Reconstruction project supporting communities in Kharkiv and Przemyślhttps://kharpp.com/Save Ukrainehttps://www.saveukraineua.org/Superhumans - Hospital for war traumashttps://superhumans.com/en/UNBROKEN - Treatment. From Caviar to Commissary: Donna Adelson's Brutal New Life in Prison She once ruled a Miami dental empire—now she's learning to trade ramen for favors and sleep through screams in 100-degree heat.  At 75 years old, Donna Adelson has been convicted of first-degree murder and is staring down the rest of her life in a Florida prison system known for its brutality, its heat, and its utter indifference to wealth, age, or legacy. In this Hidden Killers breakdown, we examine Donna's likely trajectory from county jail to Florida Women's Reception Center… and ultimately to Lowell Correctional Institution, one of the most notorious women's prisons in America. What awaits her? Endless noise, public showers, no privacy, and a new power structure where money means nothing—and respect has to be earned in ramen packets. We pull apart what life really looks like for women inside Lowell, especially aging inmates: the sweat-drenched dorms, the hidden hustle economy, the kosher-tray bartering system, and the constant emotional pressure of knowing you're never getting out. Featuring real accounts, DOJ reports, and behind-the-scenes insights, we ask: Can Donna survive this world—or will she become someone entirely different trying to adapt?
