Vampire evolution ground to a standstill in the '80s, then a woman appeared who completely changed everything we thought about vampires. With the power of her pen, she made vampires less about disease, and more about sex. Today, every vampire lives in the shadow of our Queen of the Damned, Anne Rice.Bestselling author, Grady Hendrix, continues his vain attempts to get you to buy his latest book, How to Sell a Haunted House, and to sweeten the deal he's hired Chris LaMartina of The WNUF Halloween Special fame to produce the show, and forcibly drafted Mike Walls of Audio Esoterica to engineer the spooky sounds.

So, not only do we tackle the amazing horror comedy The Video Dead from 1987, but Kevin is also joined by the legendary Z.C. Krol and horror director of films like The WNUF Halloween Special and The Out There Halloween Mega Tape...Chris LaMartina! Three of the most important vampires of the '70s were Black, and here they are in all their glory. Black vampires have been an important part of the canon all the way back to the beginning, and this is just a part of their stories. Also, a lot of the music in this episode is by the inimitable Sam Waymon. Used with his permission. You can find more of his music here.Bestselling author, Grady Hendrix, continues his vain attempts to get you to buy his latest book, How to Sell a Haunted House, and to sweeten the deal he's hired Chris LaMartina of The WNUF Halloween Special fame to produce the show, and forcibly drafted Mike Walls of Audio Esoterica to engineer the spooky sounds.
If you want to sing out…sing out! This week, Peaches and Michael explore unconventional connection in celebration of 1971's HAROLD AND MAUDE! In addition to discussing the film's remarkable use of music, our hosts delve into Harold's place as one of cinema's first proto-goths. Joining the conversation is cult filmmaker Chris LaMartina, who digs into the continued impact this classic has had on his life and outlook. Then, Vintage Annals Archive's own Richard Wexler stops by to offer up some of the more nuanced bits of the movie's storied history. From modified hearses to Cat Stevens verses, this episode has it all! Go!
As the '70s began, motion picture vampires were d-e-a-d dead. How would they survive the disco decade? By moving to the small screen, starring on Broadway, and trying to be funny. In the process, they fulfilled their true destiny and finally became romantic heroes.Bestselling author, Grady Hendrix, continues his vain attempts to get you to buy his latest book, How to Sell a Haunted House, and to sweeten the deal we're going to discuss Evel Knievel, Suckula, and recruit an entire cast to do the voices, hire Chris LaMartina of The WNUF Halloween Special fame to produce the show, and forcibly draft Mike Walls of Audio Esoterica to engineer the spooky sounds.

Welcome to the House of Hammer! This tiny British film studio resurrected Dracula in 1958 and gave movies the most iconic image of the vampire since Bela Lugosi in 1931! Then Dracula killed them dead. Bestselling author, Grady Hendrix, continues his vain attempts to get you to buy his latest book, How to Sell a Haunted House, and to sweeten the deal he throws in lots of talk about the menace of dope, the illegal international trade in vampires, and he brings in an entire cast to do the voices, recruits Chris LaMartina of The WNUF Halloween Special fame to produce, and forcibly drafted Mike Walls of Audio Esoterica to engineer.
After far too long, the boys reunite with Chris LaMartina. Chris talks creating the universe behind “Out There Halloween Mega Tape” and a bunch of other stuff. Natural conversation. It's great. October is finally here, and boy do we have some spooky season programming for you. Live from Not Your Final Girl HQ (not really, but we're suspending our disbelief here), Candace and Ariel are talking about two phenomenal Halloween specials – iconic and terrifying “live” broadcast Ghostwatch (1992), and acerbic “live” news special WNUF Halloween Special (2013) – with their respective filmmakers, Lesley Manning and Chris LaMartina. It was an absolute honor and so much fun to get these guests together and discuss the importance of verisimilitude, the horrors of both the supernatural and the mundane, revealing your DNA in your work, capturing the essence of live TV, and what niche subset of found footage these films occupy. If you haven't seen these movies, we highly recommend you watch them as a double feature (and check out Out There Halloween Megatape after). You can thank us later. Let us know how many times you catch a glimpse of Pipes. You can follow Lesley Manning, director of Ghostwatch, on Instagram here, and visit her website here. Justin and Chris dive into the world of body horror and religious exploitation with the films discussed in this episode. The first is a Baltimore gem by excellent independent filmmakers Chris LaMartina and Jimmy George called Call Girl of Cthulhu. It stars Melissa LaMartina and needs to be discovered by all. Now! Welp, after over 150 episodes it finally happend. We forgot to hit record. So this week we give you an interview will Film maker Chris LaMartina, A carcast on way to Gwar, A special theme song AND a dramatic retelling...
Marketing and distributing a film can be a brutal, expensive enterprise. Chris LaMartina ignored industry standards, took VHS copies of his $1,500 film and placed them all around Baltimore. Chris gives the background on his film, "WNUF: Halloween Special" and how he is raising money for the sequel. In the intro, Randy and Clark saw the same movie... but did they? Russ goes over the highly reviewed "Pyewacket" and both he and Clark recover from "Possum". We have the pleasure of sitting down with Chris LaMartina, the director of one of our favorite recent films WNUF Halloween Special. We talk about his filmography, WNUF and the upcoming sequel and gofundme being held to raise money for the shoot. We also discuss pasta, wrestling, our review of Halloween 2018 and more!
It's time to do your civic duty and cast your ballot for a man who will keep his campaign promises, specifically if those include turning into a blood-thirsty lycanthrope and disemboweling crooked politicians. We dig deep into the vault for the 1973 horror comedy THE WEREWOLF OF WASHINGTON! Your hosts are joined this week by the illustrious Chris LaMartina, the mastermind behind one of our favorite recent flicks, the WNUF Halloween Special, and we get into some polite political discourse between riffing on the weird stuff that occurs in Werewolf of Washington (there's a lot). Scott also gets a little starstruck by Chris's film credits (heyyyy Call Girl of Cthulhu) - do you think the Pentagon is behind this??This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
The WNUF Halloween Special is not only the final found footage film of Horrortober but also a film that transcends time and reality it would seem to showcase a seemingly lost Halloween night broadcast from local channel WNUF. Directed and written by Chris LaMartina, it's a love letter not only to anyone who watched TV in the '80s but also to horror fans looking for something truly unique. Chris is joined by The Projection Booth's Mike White for an in-depth discussion of the now genre classic as well as interviews with director Chris LaMartina and actor Paul Fahrenkopf (Frank Stewart) about the film's creation, filming, and the upcoming sequel. If you loved WNUF, make sure to head on over to the GoFundMe for the upcoming sequel and keep an eye on Chris' Twitter for updates and footage from the original and sequel.

JIMMY GEORGE joins me on the show to discuss his filmmaking career and a special new venture. To this point, George has been known for his partnership with Baltimore-native horror director, Chris LaMartina. As producer and co-writer, George has helped bring fan favorites to life, including the WNUF Halloween Special, Call Girl of Cthulhu, Witch's Brew, President's Day and the duo's forthcoming What Happens Next Will Scare You. But he has an even scarier undertaking in his sights: running his own business. “Script Butcher,” a script doctor service, sees George bringing years of writing and producing experience to helping those trying to improve, polish and unlock the greatness of their own screenplays. He has poured his whole self into the job, providing guidance and feedback that is rabidly sought after, and for the fraction of the price of other services. I love seeing this kind of positive work supporting creative artists. Great talk! AUNDRIA also joins me in the intro to tease our upcoming coverage of Fantastic Fest 2017 for Action-A-Go-Go! The Dead Next Door with WNUF Halloween Special Writer/Director Chris LaMartina To further celebrate our favorite season, Jinx welcomes filmmaker Chris LaMartina to the show. Mr. LaMartina is the writer/director of the WNUF Halloween Special, a recent holiday classic that makes for a perfect complement any horror fans’ October viewing. Mr. LaMartina also co-wrote and directed Call Girl of Cthulhu, and brings with him J.R. Bookwalter’s indie horror flick The Dead Next Door to discuss at length. Produced by Sam Raimi and shot on Super-8, the zombie-centric film was Bookwalter’s first movie, which led to a long career for the independent filmmaker. Along the way, Mr. LaMartina touches on the film’s making, its impact on his own work, and even discusses some fun stories surrounding the making and marketing of WNUF (along with a tantalizing tease of a potential spiritual sequel). It’s a fun chat with a great guest, and one we hope you enjoy. Make certain to subscribe to our show on iTunes, leave feedback, tell your friends about us, check out our YouTube show, use the Amazon links below to purchase The Dead Next Door and Mr. LaMartina's films, and give us a yell on Facebook and Twitter. Get ready, boils and ghouls! After suffering for their sins for the past few episodes, Moe and Doug get a brief respite from their usual deep hurting with Chris LaMartina's WNUF HALLOWEEN SPECIAL, a beautifully constructed tribute to 80s TV with a unique (and spoooOOOooky) found footage edge. Packed with lovingly constructed period detail and fine performances, this one is a (trick or) treat. Put the kids to bed and LISTEN.

Hola DigHeads! On this week's podcast we bid farewell to Digression Sessions ally Grant Lindahl! Grant is not dying, he's merely moving to another land, a Port-Land! We were grateful to have Grant for one last romp around the cast this week, before he ships out (Dearest Martha, how I long for your bosom). Grant has kept the flame of alt-comedy- nerdiness burning strong in the local scene over the last few years. He has smashed guitars at stand-up shows, sketched other comedians in action (check out the drawing of Josh and Mike from the Chris LaMartina ep on the website), and now has a cartoon webseries called “Damaged” going with New York comedian Liz Miele! Check it out! We chat with Grant about Damaged, Grant's near-joining of the military over art-school (what?!), Grant's curious habit of tormenting his Mother with photos of a non-existant cousin, and Josh's adventures in performing comedy at a local Gay leather club. Spoiler-alert: no gay sex (what?!). Thanks for stomping in Grant, this was another fun and interesting discussion! “HPV Craft” Hola Digheads! This week Mike and Josh are joined by director, writer, rock n roller, juvenile diabetic, and known pizza eater -Chris LaMartina! Chris has co-written, produced, and directed five feature films including: Dead Teenagers, Book of Lore, President's Day, Grave Mistakes, and Witches Brew. Ever since he got his hands on a camcorder at the age of 11, Chris has been making films. Before that he dictated his stories to his Godmother who would type them on a typewriter. And he's been eating pizza since God knows when. While working for the Mayor of Baltimore in the office of Cable & Communications as a producer/director for their government TV channel, he produced Grave Mistakes and President's Day. Sadly he was laid off 2 weeks before shooting began on Witch's Brew. Chris used his savings and funds from Kickstarter to produce Witches Brew. Due to financial constraints, he thought that would be his last film. However, Chris is forging ahead and currently he has two films in the works. The first is an 80s period piece that will be a found footage film and the second is a heavily HP Lovecraft influenced film entitled, Call-Girl of Cthulhu. Call-Girl will hopefully be funded through investors. And, if all goes to plan shooting will begin in the Spring of 2013. If you're in the Baltimore area, and you're reading this on the weekend of July 21st check Chris's and his long time film partner, Jimmy George's VHS/VIP at Artscape. VHS/VIP is an exploration of VHS movies that includes local filmmakers Kristen Anchor, the 48 Hour Film Project's Rob Hatch, and others, LaMartina made a video mixtape of his favorite scenes from videos. And finally, we were lucky enough to have the hilarious and great artist Grant Lindahl sketch us while we recorded this ep. He killed it! Check it out! We also discuss a number of topics for this episode including, but not limited to: karaoke podcasts (perform your favorite Dig Sesh live!), puns, lots of puns, making your hometown better, goodcest, Civil War era Penthouse letters, lunch in cemeteries, Pilates on ya body!, and so much more! Have something to say about this ep? Or do you have anything else Digression Sessions related / unrelated to say? Should the Digheads start an Olympic Curling team?!?! Say it on our forum!! Justin talks with filmmaker Jacob Young, director of the infamous Jesco White documentary "The Dancing Outlaw," which was the precursor to the 2009 documentary "The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia." Jacob discusses his time producing the offbeat PBS series "Different Drummer" and his new film "The Object," while sharing some hilarious and exclusive stories. After that, Justin is joined by Chris LaMartina to talk about James Gunn's new film "Super," the hilarious dark superhero comedy starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page that's currently in release from IFC Films. Oh, and Chris mistakes Rainn Wilson for a potential porn star name.
