Organizations seeking to build an infrastructure stack for AI training need to know how the data platform is going to perform. This episode of Utilizing Tech, presented by Solidigm, includes Curtis Anderson, Co-Chair of the Storage Working Group at MLCommons, discussing storage benchmarking with Ace Stryker and Stephen Foskett. MLCommons is an industry consortium seeking to improve AI solutions through joint engineering. The organization publishes the well-known MLPerf benchmark, which now includes practical metrics for storage solutions. The goal of MLPerf Storage is to answer the key question: Will a given data infrastructure support AI training of a given scale. The organization encourages storage vendors to run the benchmarks against their solutions to prove the suitability to support specific workloads. The AI industry is already shifting its focus from maximum scale and performance to more-balances infrastructure using alternative GPUs, accelerators, and even CPUs, and is increasingly concerned about price and environmental impact. The question of data preparation is also rising, and this generally uses a different CPU-focused solution. MLPerf Storage is focused on training today and will soon address data preparation, though this can be quite different for each data set. The next MLPerf Storage benchmark opens soon, and we encourage all data infrastructure companies to get involved and submit their own performance numbers. Every so often, we are fortunate to be able to meet people who truly live their life they way many wish they would. For many years I have been awe-struck with the athletes who compete in the PBR (Professional Bull Riders). Their level of athleticism is only matched by their level of courageousness. The idea of riding an animal that is larger and heavier than the average pick-up truck on the highway is beyond comprehension. Years ago, I was fortunate to experience the PBR live. During this experience I had the opportunity to stand 10 feet away from one of the most menacing creatures I have ever witnessed. This beautiful animal weighed more than 1500 pounds, and had a muscle structure that looked as if it were a Marvel Comic creature. It was at that moment that I realized what elite athletes Professional Bull riders must be. The idea of riding an animal with that much power, anger and rage, for 8 seconds, cannot be described with mere words alone. By realizing the fact that athletes who compete on the PBR can die every time they ride, makes this sport more than extreme. Curtis Anderson was one of these incredibly brave and extreme athletes. Curtis was raised in Northern Alberta, Canada on a farm where he attributes the grown and development of his intense work ethic. It would be this sense of work ethic that would help him regain his life. In 2002, while competing in the World's 5th Largest PBR event, the Ponoka Stampede, Curtis Anderson's would embark upon the toughest ride of his life. While riding the bull "Real Handy", Curtis would sustain 2 traumatic brain injuries on one ride. These major concussions would change his life forever. The injuries Curtis sustained caused him to have be medically induced into a coma to help relieve the pressure in his brain. Since his departure from the University of Alberta hospital, Curtis began a rehabilitation process that would last almost 2 decades. The up-hill battles he has had to face and overcome would make many quit and find refuge in the realization that things will never be the same. Fortunately for Curtis, his work ethic and mindset to always push forward and push beyond the boundaries placed before him - caused him to never accept the limits placed upon him. Curtis Anderson has taken his injury and created a life line for so many athletes. Today he shares his story, as well as insight regarding TBI's (Traumatic Brain Injuries), and what it means to live life "Resiliently" to youth/adolescents, College/University students, as well as businesses and corporations. When he is not sharing his story, and lifting up others as they attempt to overcome the limits placed upon them as a result of a TBI, Curtis is working on the Canadian Trail Ride - a non-profit event that tries to raise funds and awareness for those suffering from a TBI. It is because he has chosen to live a life under the motto of "Never Give Up ... Don't EVER Give Up" ... This is not just a saying for Curtis. This is how he has chosen to live his life - every day. It is this same message that he shares with his others. If you are looking for a motivation speaker who can provide a powerful message of what it means to be resilient - contact Curtis Anderson. This months guest is Curtis Anderson, a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivor for a new area we're looking to dive deeper into on the podcast – the patient's perspective. We talk to Curtis about his 20 year journey and how he defied what was initially thought possible for the full extent of his rehab. After 3 weeks in a medically induced coma he spent a year in a rehabilitation center and he has since gone on a journey to be a motivational speaker helping other get through their own journeys as the prime example of what can happen when you don't give up, even after 20 years, when you are determined to treat every day as an opportunity to do better, be better and perform better. In his own words, it took him 8 years to learn to drive again, 8 years to use a staircase with the railing on the left side, 10 years to be able to pick up change from the counter top & 16 years to pick it up off of the ground! He's an inspiration and the personification of never giving up and I hope you enjoy hearing about his journey as much as I have!

Summary:Divorce in itself is hard. When you're trying to divide a business as part of the divorce, the possibility for complication and messiness goes way up. Today's guest is an expert in corporate law and business valuation, and we're discussing our top “what not to do's” when it comes to setting up a business, valuing a business, and dividing up a business when you get divorced.Today we're talking about getting divorced when you have a business, whether you own or co-own, and what happens with the business. Today's guest is a personal friend who happens to be an expert on this subject.Curtis Anderson is a professor at the BYU Law School. He joined the BYU Law faculty in 2015. Prior to that he was an Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Match Group, which owns and operates the world's largest online dating platforms including match.com, Tinder, meetic, okcupid and over 40 other brands. Match Group's market capitalization is currently over $45 billion. Prior to joining Match Group, he was a partner in the Dallas office of Baker Botts, an international law firm with 13 offices in seven countries. He earned an undergraduate and law degree from BYU.Most people don't pay an attorney to set up their business. It is usually more expensive to clean it up later if you grow. It's not that hard to do it right the first time, even if you do it yourself. Founders need to consider these 3 things:Capitalization- someone has to put in the initial capital. Need it documented who owns what and how muchDecision making- how are decisions made? Is it majority or unanimous?Exit strategies- who and when do people have the right to leave, and what are the terms? Is your business considered a marital-owned business or not? You need to know your state laws, because the assets of the business may be considered joint, even if your spouse isn't officially documented as a business owner. There is a difference between asset and income stream. These are divided differently. Make sure your attorney understands and has experience in dividing businesses in divorce. How do you determine value in business? NOT tax returns. Financial statements are a better look.Biggest mistakes in dividing business in divorce:not putting in protections ahead of time when people are less emotional and biased.do a prenup agreement if you have business before marriagedo a postnup agreement if you're building a business during the marriagewrite up business organization documents and include any spouse of any partners to protect business assets getting too emotional or vindictive about dividing the business and forking over tons of money to attorneys when that money could be for you and your ex and your kids.

Lock7's love for music stems from being around classical and gospel music all of his life. Growing up around music started developing his skills as a musician at an early age with eight years of piano lessons and eleven years of vocal lessons. As Lock7 puts it playing piano has always been a constant in his life. Ever since the age of 9 Lock7 has played piano in church, composed music, wrote poetry, and sang in numerous choirs. This would be where the basic building blocks of the writer, producer, and vocalist Lock7 would develop into refined skills. Lock7 has performed with artists such as Mac the MC, QDC, Chris Webby, Lil Baby, and Grammy award winning performing group the New York Voices. He has worked with producers such as Curtis Anderson, 40, Dynasty Beats, Peter Porceli, and Tony Keyz. Videographers he has worked with are KJ Films, 23 Films, Jayful Films, and Cindo Movies.
