Hosts: Leah Murray and Maura Carabello Recapping the biggest moments from the weekend’s state conventions KSL at Night hosts Leah Murray and Maura Carabello kick off the week talking about the biggest political stories from the weekend – all centered around the political state conventions. Bridger Beal-Cvetko, KSL.com reporter, joins the program to recap the biggest races and challenges the convention faced. Controversy surrounds the behavior displayed at the conventions Besides the races, the biggest thing coming out of the GOP convention was decorum, or the lack thereof. Former Speaker of the Utah House, Greg Hughes, joins the show to defend conventions, while also admitting that there were several things that disappointed and concerned him with last weekend’s conventions. He explains his more nuanced stance. State political conventions – how do they adapt to the changing times? Continuing the conversation on conventions, we take a look at the opposing views. Holly Richardson, Editor of Utah Policy, discusses her concerns about future conventions due to “disgraceful” behavior by GOP delegates. The hosts discuss if the convention process is even applicable nowadays with the signature-gathering primary option. The FCC restores net neutrality – what does it mean? Troy Rydman, Sr. Practice Manager for AWS Security, Risk, Compliance for Strategic Accounts, calls into the program to talk about the Federal Communication Commission’s recent decision to restore net neutrality. He clarifies what the changes will look like, and how they compare to the last time net neutrality was in place. Democratic Lt. Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom leads off by discussing a Republican trend toward supporting Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro, lamenting that there are multiple reasons that the candidate would be highly detrimental to our State. Dom tells about Shapiro turning a blind eye to the crime in Philadelphia under Larry Krasner, reminding listeners of the power granted his way by state lawmakers to step in, in which he continuously refuses. Then, Giordano tells about an Inquirer article that tries to reframe the narrative around Shapiro's take on Coronavirus, now trying to portray the candidate as somebody fighting against the overbearing masking and edicts in schools. Then, Giordano loops back to the clip of John Fetterman saying that people of color are less likely to carry an ID card, calling out the comment as racist. Then, Dom asks whether, if Fetterman is elected, Pennsylvania will have the most entitled representatives, but Dan throws out New Jersey's Booker and Menendez as close competitors. Then, Representative Dan Meuser checks in to the Dom Giordano Program to preview an upcoming appearance by President Joe Biden in his area, appearing in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area. First, Dom asks for Meuser's opinion on the spike in crime across the state, with Dom noting that he predicts crime and justice to be a big portion of Biden's speech. Then, Giordano and Meuser hop into a discussion about the midterm elections in Pennsylvania, with the Congressman offering his opinion on both John Fetterman and Josh Shapiro, two Democrats running for high office in PA. (Photo by Anna Rose Layden/Getty Images)

Brandon was elected President of the City Council by his fellow council members last year when then Council President Jack Young became Mayor after Catherine Pugh’s fall from grace. He was first elected to the Council in 2011 to represent the 2nd District. Before that, he worked in the office of then Council President Stephanie Rawlings Blake as her representative in Northeast Baltimore. In 2018, Jim Shea picked Mr. Scott as his running mate in their unsuccessful bid in the Democratic Gubernatorial primary. Council President Scott fended off a crowded field of challengers for his party’s nomination, including former mayor Shelia Dixon. Brandon Scott is 36 years old. He grew up in Park Heights, where his parents and family still live. He lives in the Frankford neighborhood in North East Baltimore.

And then there were two.  It appears our gubernatorial race is all set for November....the fairly close GOP race between Spencer Cox and Jon Huntsman Jr....over and done with after Cox Tweeted....he'd just gotten off the phone with Huntsman who conceded around 4:30.  Joining us live now is the *DEMOCRATIC* nominee for governor....University of Utah law professor Chris Peterson. Sir, thank you for joining us.  * Your position as the Democratic nominee has been secured since April....we're assuming you've been watching how things play out on the other side of the aisle very closely....right? * And about that Republican race....was there a candidate you were hoping to take on in the big show in November? * Down to brass tax now....you say you're a "national leader and authority on consumer protection"....how does your experience make you the best person to lead the Beehive State?

Today, we continue our series of Conversations with the Candidates with people who are running to be the next Mayor of Baltimore City. Tom's guest is City Council President Brandon Scott. Mr. Scott was elected President of the City Council by his fellow members eight months ago, when then Council President Jack Young became Mayor after Catherine Pugh’s fall from grace. As the chair of the Council's Public Safety Committee from 2016 until last year, Mr. Scott has been an advocate for the reform of the city police department and a holistic approach to crime reduction. If elected Mayor, Mr. Scott says he will aim to reduce homicides in Baltimore by 15%, in each year of his term in office. That would bring the number of annual murders to below 300 by December of 2021. He was first elected to the Council to represent the 2nd District in 2011. Prior to that, his work experience included working in the office of then-Council President Stephanie Rawlings Blake as her representative in Northeast Baltimore. In 2018, Jim Shea picked Scott as his running mate in their unsuccessful bid in the Democratic Gubernatorial primary. A lifelong resident of Baltimore, he’s a graduate of Mervo High School and St. Mary’s College. He is 35 years old and single. This conversation was live-streamed on WYPR's Facebook page. This week, the GOP candidates, furious at the rough treatment they received at the hands of CNBC, rebelled against the debate process. The first casualty of all this nonsense was a debate scheduled to take place on Telemundo. It's just one of a series of slights suffered by the Latino community so far this election cycle. Meanwhile, if you've ever applied for a job, you've seen the box on the application, asking you to detail any history of criminal conviction. This week, President Obama ordered Federal agencies to remove that from their forms, joining a growing, bipartisan movement to "ban the box.”Finally, the 2015 election is over and in Kentucky the big loser wasn't Democratic Gubernatorial nominee Jack Conway -- though he did lose. Rather, it was the thousands of poor Kentuckians who now might lose their health insurance as a result of Republican Matt Bevin's ascension. Will this finally be the moment Democrats realize that they are functionally dead as a party at state-level? Probably not! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
