When the latest big-screen reboot of the popular 70s TV series Charlie's Angels - this time written and directed by Elizabeth Banks - hit in 2019, the franchise had already proven its cinematic bankability (Banks-ability??). And yet, despite the much-buzzed-about excitement of seeing Kristen Stewart taking on a "fun" role in a big Hollywood action-blockbuster, and the intrigue of two potential new stars with Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska, Banks's film failed to connect with audiences. But was this simply the fault of the movie itself, or was it - as the director herself would argue in the following days - a distressing sign that the male-dominated action-movie crowd wasn't ready for a female-led film such as this? We love when our return guests ask for us by name and that's exactly what happened when we were pitched this interview with director Shana Feste. We met Shana during her press tour of her film Boundaries back in 2018 and then we were reunited at the 2020 Sundance  Film Festival. It's been two whole years (plus some months) but her film Run Sweetheart Run is out in the universe streaming right now on Amazon Prime.We get to catch up with Shana about using her hometown of Los Angeles as the backdrop of Run Sweetheart Run, her loyal music supervisor (who picked some great songs for the film btw), writing about periods for a film, her real life story of a date that got scary and later was the basis of Run Sweetheart Run, the movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, and more. It was great to speak with Shana again and we can't wait to see what's up her sleeve on the big screen and beyond. She produced the follow up to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Fede Alvarez's The Girl in the Spider's Web, starring The Crown's Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander. Her first film under her Columbia deal was Concussion starring Will Smith in 2015. The Cantillon Company include the film adaptation of Kristin Hannah's bestsellers, The Nightingale and The Great Alone, for TriStar Pictures. For MGM and Warner Bros, Cantillon is developing Tomb Raider 2 with producer Graham King. Elizabeth previously served as Executive Vice President of Production at Columbia Pictures. From making clothes with her Barbie dolls out of tights(!) and shoes out of blu-tack she was destined for a design job.Lauren had, what some would consider, to be amazing jobs on the way, such as PR and buying for major high street fashion retailers. Yet, she knew these weren't her passion.She persevered until she landed costume design opportunities in low budget short films, working her way up to film sets featuring major Hollywood A-listers.Now as a full time, self-employed costume designer she is doing exactly what she loves, working on film sets around the world. Lauren talks through her journey and how she realised it was exactly what she wanted to do.
