The Delulu Diaries Podcast

So, Caitlin killed the Pope. Since we're apparently manifestation witches, we discuss the unfortunate death of Pope Francis and what this means for the upcoming Conclave, including the top three picks for the next papal. We also woke up to the TikTok video that stopped the entire Australian nation: Kath Ebbs detailing their reunion with Jojo Siwa after their month-long stint in UK Celebrity Big Brother where the entire world watched them form a *questionable* relationship with Love Island UK alumni, Chris Hughes. Moving on to sport, we recap the weekend that was from Collingwood and Western Bulldogs' wins to the abysmal performance from the Adelaide Crows, and Caitlin's diminishing Boyfriend League.  This week, we headed back to the cinemas to watch Until Dawn—a film adaptation of the popular PlayStation horror video game that allows players to choose their fate, but with a twist. Turning to more light-hearted viewing, Caitlin shares her initial thoughts on Seth Rogan's The Studio on Apple TV. Lastly, Caitlin reviews The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah before discussing her current read, Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson.   Follow us on socials: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedeluludiariespod TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thedeluludiariespod Danika's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/danikarbrown Caitlin's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/caitlinsltr   Watch the episode in full on YouTube: https://youtu.be/UqhxjHXUKnY

The Delulu Diaries Podcast

In this week's episode, we discuss the world's reaction to Katy Perry's 11-minute flight to space and our thoughts on Gayle King positioning the trip as a monumental milestone for feminism. Because we're a sports podcast, we review Round 6 of the AFL, with Collingwood looking strong as final contenders and Adelaide Crows' unconvincing win against GWS. We also deep dive into Willie Rioli's post slamming Hawthorn and the reaction from the public and the AFL.  This week, we review our latest viewing starting with the Australian reality dating show Love Triangle (Stan) by the creators of MAFS. We then dive into our movie pick of the week: Conclave (Apple TV) — an arguably camp and dramatic look at the selection process for the next Pope starring Stanley Tucci, Ralph Fiennes, and John Lithgow. Caitlin shares her initial reviews of Your Friends & Neighbours (Apple TV) and the highly anticipated return of The Last of Us (HBO Max) starring Bella Ramsey and pod favourite, Pedro Pascal.  We wrap with our latest reads: The One That Got Away by Mike Gayle, Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, and The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah.   Follow us on socials: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedeluludiariespod TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thedeluludiariespod Danika's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/danikarbrown Caitlin's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/caitlinsltr   Watch the episode in full on YouTube: https://youtu.be/UqhxjHXUKnY

In this episode, recorded live at the 2024 Sun Valley Writers' Conference, novelist Kristin Hannah talks to Jenny Emery Davidson, the executive director of The Community Library in Ketchum, Idaho, about her #1 New York Times bestselling novel The Women. In The Women, Hannah (known for previous bestselling historical novels such as The Nightingale, The Great Alone, and The Four Winds) takes up the Vietnam epic and re- centers the story on the experience of the military nurses who worked under fire, on bases and in field hospitals throughout the war, but whose sacrifice and commitment to their country has all too often been forgotten. Like so many male soldiers of the time, Frankie McGrath, the novel's heroine, finds herself overwhelmed by the chaos and destruction of war, as well as the unexpected trauma of coming home to a changed and politically divided America. Alternative rock band The Great Alone drops Perception.Perception is an album that explores the intricate nature of perception through powerful and energetic rock melodies. Each song is meant to invite the listeners to dive into the depths of their psyche, confront tormenting nightmares, and navigate the dangers of obsession. Haunting memories, restlessness at nightfall, and the prison of the mind are addressed, providing introspective and thought-provoking experiences. The concept of perception combines the emotional part, but also everything that one can perceive with the eyes. The album combines ethereal and powerful vocals, impactful guitar riffs, energetic atmospheres and piano sequences to create a collection of songs that is meant to provoke contemplation, self- discovery, and an emotional response. At the end, the perception of the listeners will probably be different from one to another, but that's the subjective aspect of the perception. With its blend of powerful and soothing elements, Perception should immerse listeners in a unique musical journey that resonates with the complexities of perception and leaves a lasting impression. The Great Alone will embark on a US tour with Powerman 5000 in March 2024.The Great Alone formed in the summer of 2018 with founding members Vinc' and Murielle. The band incorporates different atmospheres with layers of electronic sounds and choirs. The influences are vast and varied, both musically and vocally, ranging from movie soundtracks to rock, pop, metal, including the mystical sounds of certain Nordic artists.

Warner Brothers already acquired the film rights even before the book's release. (An interview with Kristin regarding The Great Alone can be found here.) Kristin joins Marrie Stone to talk about The Women and why it took more than 20 years before she felt ready to tackle this topic. She talks about her approach to writing trauma and war without overwhelming the reader, and why writing about Vietnam was so different from writing about WWII. She also discusses what goes into researching a book like this and how she knows when she's done enough. A beautiful, intense and thought provoking novel from Kristin Hannah left our tissue boxes empty but our hearts full. The Great Alone set in Americas last frontier, follows a girl named Leni who is 13 at the beginning of the book. We get a look into her tumultuous childhood and her transition into womanhood amid the beautiful yet brutal Alaskan landscape. Leni's dad came back from the Vietnam war a forever changed and volatile man. Upon receiving land in Alaska from a fallen solder buddy, Leni, her mom and Dad head north with all they owned in VW van. Hoping the remoteness will bring peace they soon find the opposite is true. On top of her dads mental issues she now has to learn how to survive the many deadly forces of nature Alaska has to offer. The people they meet in the small town close to their homestead are a shining light for Leni and her mom. The power and need of community is life changing and eye opening. Matthew, the only child the same age as Leni becomes best friends and help each other through different tragedies they are faced with. Ernt Allbright came home from the Vietnam War a changed and volatile man. When he loses yet another job, he makes the impulsive decision to move his wife and daughter north where they will live off the grid in America's last true frontier. Cora will do anything for the man she loves, even if means following him into the unknown. Thirteen-year-old Leni, caught in the riptide of her parents' passionate, stormy relationship, has little choice but to go along, daring to hope this new land promises her family a better future. In a wild, remote corner of Alaska, the Allbrights find a fiercely independent community of strong men and even stronger women. The long, sunlit days and the generosity of the locals make up for the newcomers' lack of preparation and dwindling resources. But as winter approaches and darkness descends, Ernt's fragile mental state deteriorates. Soon the perils outside pale in comparison to threats from within. In their small cabin, covered in snow, blanketed in eighteen hours of night, Leni and her mother learn the terrible truth: they are on their own.

Novel Ideas will be discussing The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. DB 102287 The Synopsis from Bookshare is below. From the number-one bestselling author of The Nightingale and The Great Alone comes a powerful American epic about love and heroism and hope, set during the Great Depression, a time when the country was in crisis and at war with itself, when millions were out of work and even the land seemed to have turned against them. "My land tells its story if you listen. The story of our family." Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman's only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli and decides to change the direction of her life. With her reputation in ruin, there is only one respectable choice: marriage to a man she barely knows. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Farmers are fighting to keep their land and their livelihoods as crops fail and water dries up and the earth cracks open. Dust storms roll relentlessly across the plains. Everything on the Martinelli farm is dying, including Elsa's tenuous marriage; each day is a desperate battle against nature and a fight to keep her children alive. In this uncertain and perilous time, Elsa―like so many of her neighbors―must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family. The Four Winds is a rich, sweeping novel that stunningly brings to life the Great Depression and the people who lived through it―the harsh realities that divided us as a nation and the enduring battle between the haves and the have-nots. A testament to hope, resilience, and the strength of the human spirit to survive adversity, The Four Winds is an indelible portrait of America and the American dream, as seen through the eyes of one indomitable woman whose courage and sacrifice will come to define a generation.

In this episode we discuss: 1. How to step into God's plan for your life with bravery 2. Keeping a healthy view of self in an often unhealthy Instagram world 3. Closing the integrity gap between what you know to be true in your head and what you feel in your heart  Favorite quotes: 1. Negative self-talk is the one thing that holds us back. It is something that we do to ourselves that we would never allow someone else to do to us or to talk to our children that way. 2. We're empowered to do things because of the power of the Holy Spirit and the faith that we have. If we just assumed we couldn't, it would be like negating the thing we say we know is true. 3. If you don't nip it in the bud at “I can't do this”, it goes from “I can't do this” to “I'm not enough”. If you feel like you're not enough and you don't nip that in the bud you feel like nothing is ever going to change. And when you feel like nothing is ever going to change, that is the definition of hopelessness.  In this episode I answer these questions: 1. What do you think of the advice that we should just follow our passion? (48:22) 2. Why do Christians say they love Jesus and still act like horrible people? (54:19) 3. When you are working with your business coaching clients, what habits or beliefs are the ones that make some of them unable to succeed? (57:53)   Links to great things we discussed today: 1.
