On3's Jesse Simonton joins the show from Destin, Fla., where he talked to Georgia coach Kirby Smart, Florida coach Billy Napier, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin and more as the coaches convened for their meetings. In Nashville, Andy talked to Jacksonville, Fla., receiver Jamie Ffrench, who turned heads at the Elite Series and who is about to embark on official visits before deciding in August from a group of schools that includes Texas, Ohio State, Tennessee, Miami and LSU. And also chatted with Haley and Hanna Cavinder about their return to college basketball at Miami after a year away from the sport. The Cavinders were trailblazers in the NIL world, so what advice do they have for the future football stars convened in Nashville? Next, Andy talks Missouri Tigers with quarterback Matt Zollers. The Pennsylvanian was the first player to commit to Missouri's class of 2025, and he's now helping Tigers coach Eli Drinkwitz put the rest of the class together. Want to watch the show instead? TCU Football is back in Amon G. Carter Stadium on Saturday looking to keep bowl hopes alive vs. the Baylor Bears. Call it the Bluebonnet Battle or the Revivalry or whatever you'd like, it's a rivalry that carries weight regardless of records. We preview the matchup, the players we expect to stand out, and discuss the new rivalry name and trophy that the winner will lift going forward. TCU Women's Basketball secured the commitment of one of the most famous college athletes as Haley Cavinder commits to the Horned Frogs for the 2024-25 season after helping lead the Miami Hurricanes to the Elite Eight last season. Mark Campbell's squad also picked up two wins this week: dominating Rice and needing a comeback to escape vs. Incarnate Word as Sedona Prince & Madison Conner continue to excel. Men's Basketball also picked up an easy win, using a huge 2nd half to pull away from UTRGV after a sloppy turnover-filled first half. Big 12 Football still has a big jumble at the top and the Week 12 schedule could provide some clarity, highlighted by Kansas State at Kansas and Texas at Iowa State on Saturday night. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/frogsup/support

Wrestling will have to wait for one of the Cavinder twins - Haley - who decided she's going to return for her final year of eligibility. Is it simply a money grab?

The teams are essentially shells of themselves right now. The 19th-ranked Fighting Irish and the 20th-ranked Gamecocks will be without several of their best players when they meet in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl on Friday. Their first matchup since 1984 is more like a preview of 2023 than a wrap of 2022. Notre Dame is switching quarterbacks and playing without All-American tight end Michael Mayer while South Carolina is even more short-handed. NCAAFB – Rising stars: Michigan’s Moore, TCU’s Riley guide CFP teams Michigan’s Sherrone Moore and TCU’s Garrett Riley will arrive at the Fiesta Bowl for a College Football Playoff semifinal Saturday between No. 2 Michigan and No. 3 TCU as rising-star offensive coordinators. A couple of millennials with old souls, Moore and Riley seem to be on a fast-track to head coaching jobs —- eventually. Neither is in a rush to move up, but it’s apparent bigger things lie ahead in their careers. NCAAFB – Michigan graduate assistant a trailblazer for female coaches Mimi Bolden-Morris of Michigan is believed to be the first female graduate assistant football coach at a Power Five school since the late 1980s. The 23-year-old Bolden-Morris played basketball at Boston College and Georgetown. She reached out to college football programs across the country to inquire about potential opportunities. She works with the tight ends at Michigan. NCAAFB – Confident Edwards a key cog for Michigan at Fiesta Bowl Donovan Edwards is good and knows he’s good. The Michigan running back will tell you he’s good. It’s been hard to argue with his proclamations so far. Given a bigger role after Blake Corum’s injury, Edwards has thrived in the spotlight and will be a key cog in the No. 2 Wolverines’ bid to beat TCU in the Fiesta Bowl. Edwards shined in Michigan’s two biggest games of the season, running for 401 combined yards and three touchdowns in wins over Ohio State and Purdue. The Fiesta Bowl winner will play for a national championship. MLB – Cubs finalize 2-year deal with catcher Tucker Barnhart The Chicago Cubs have finalized a $6.5 million, two-year contract with Gold Glove-winning catcher Tucker Barnhart. Detroit did not doom its chances, but it must close with wins over Chicago on Sunday at home and against wild-card contending Green Bay on the road next week to have a shot at being in the postseason for the first time since 2016. NFL/NCAA – Big Ten – AP source: Big Ten’s Warren candidate for Bears president Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren has spoken to the Chicago Bears about becoming the team's next president and CEO. A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the talks to The Associated Press. The Bears are searching for a president to replace the retiring Ted Phillips. Warren became the first Black commissioner of a Power Five college conference in 2020. His tenure includes the delayed 2020 football season during the pandemic and the Big Ten landing $7 billion media rights deal, along with the additions of USC and UCLA. Bolden-Morris will be on the sideline Saturday when the second-ranked Wolverines play No. 3 TCU at the Fiesta Bowl in a College Football semfinal. Barnhart is expected to back up Yan Gomes. Willson Contreras was the starting catcher for Chicago last season, but he signed an $87.5 million, five-year contract with St. Louis during free agency. Barnhart returns to the NL Central after struggling in his only season with Detroit. He spent his first eight seasons with Cincinnati, winning Gold Gloves in 2017 and 2020. Fields took a big step toward playing by practicing Thursday without limitations after missing last week's loss at the New York Jets. The Bears will try to stop a five-game losing streak and get a rare win over their rivals when they host the Packers on Sunday. Green Bay has won seven in a row against Chicago. Fields separated his left shoulder and suffered some ligament damage in the AC joint when he was tackled on a designed run late in Chicago's loss at Atlanta two weeks ago. He participated in practice on a limited basis leading up to the game at New York and was limited again on Wednesday. NFL – Lions and Jaguars face off Sunday in possible shootout The Lions and Jaguars are both coming to Ford Field at 4-7. The expansion is expected to produce about $450 million in additional gross revenue for the conferences and schools that participate. The plan to expand the playoff was unveiled publicly in June 2021 and it took 18 months of haggling and delays to finally complete. NCAAFB – QB Cade McNamara leaving Michigan, transferring to Iowa McNamara says he's transferring to Iowa after serving as Michigan’s backup quarterback this season. The Moroccans' only other trip past the group stage came in 1986. Hakim Ziyech scored for Morocco in the fourth minute after a bad error from Canada goalkeeper Milan Borjan left the winger to chip the ball into an empty goal. Youssef En-Nesyri added a second goal. Canada got one back through an own-goal by Nayef Aguerd but goes home after losing all three games. Croatia 0, Belgium 0 – Belgium out of World Cup as Croatia advances with 0-0 draw Croatia advanced to the last 16 of the World Cup with a 0-0 draw against Belgium. Belgium’s group-stage exit will likely usher in the breakup of its talented but underachieving generation of players. The point left 2018 runner-up Croatia in second place behind Group F winner Morocco. The Croats have reached at least the semifinals on each of the two times they have advanced to the knockout stage. Belgium was eliminated after scoring only one goal in three games and failed to live up to its status as the second-ranked team and one of the tournament favorites. Germany 4, Costa Rica 2 – Germany out of World Cup despite 4-2 win over Costa Rica Germany was eliminated from the group stage of the World Cup for the second tournament in a row. The four-time champions beat Costa Rica 4-2 but it wasn't enough to advance to the round of 16. Japan's 2-1 victory over Spain allowed both of those teams to advance instead. The Japanese team finished at the top of the group. Germany also exited early while playing as defending champions at the last World Cup. Germany coach Hansi Flick says “I believe for the future of German football we need to do things differently in training.” Japan 2, Spain 1 – Japan beats Spain 2-1 as both teams advance at World Cup Japan scored twice early in the second half to come from behind to defeat Spain 2-1 in a result that put both teams into the last 16 of the World Cup. Ao Tanaka scored the winning goal from close range early in the second half. It took about two minutes for video review officials to confirm the ball hadn't gone out of bounds before the goal. Álvaro Morata scored first for Spain in the 11th minute at Khalifa International Stadium. But Japan rallied after halftime. Ritsu Doan equalized in the 48th with a left-footed shot from outside the box. And Tanaka added the second one three minutes later. Germany was eliminated from the tournament even with a 4-2 win over Costa Rica in the other Group E match. A victory by Costa Rica would have eliminated Spain. Álvaro Morata scored first for Spain in the 11th minute at Khalifa International Stadium. But Japan rallied after halftime. Ritsu Doan equalized in the 48th with a left-footed shot from outside the box. And Tanaka added the second one three minutes later. NFL – Police identify suspect in Browns’ playing field vandalism Cleveland police have released the name of the man they believe damaged the field at FirstEnergy Stadium by driving a vehicle on it a few days before the Browns hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 21-year-old suspect, Anthony Robert Westley O'Neal, has not been arrested. While no charges have been field, police say O'Neal will be a “direct indictment” to the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury. The natural grass playing surface was torn up by the vehicle, leaving tire marks on half the field that were still visible on Sunday during Cleveland's 23-17 overtime victory. The team said its stadium maintenance crew addressed superficial damage to the turf. FIFA – 2022 FIFA World Cup – Qatar Yesterday Morocco 2, Canada 1 Croatia 0, Belgium 0 – draw Germany 4, Costa Rica 2 Japan 2, Spain 1 Morocco 2, Canada 1 – Morocco reaches last 16 of World Cup, beats Canada 2-1 Morocco has advanced to the last 16 at the World Cup for only the second time after clinging on for a 2-1 win over Canada. The game was viewed by more than 12 million people on Fox. That included 954,004 digital streams, which is the most for a World Cup match on Fox. The Spanish-language telecast was seen by 2.34 million on Telemundo, and an additional 1.12 million on Telemundo digital and Peacock. The three U.S. group stage matches averaged 11.7 million, up 10% from an average of 10,622,000 for the trio of matches on ESPN in 2014. FIFA – Hurt on goal, Pulisic hopes to face Netherlands at World Cup United States midfielder Christian Pulisic hopes to play against the Netherlands in the round of 16 at the World Cup on Saturday after bruising his pelvic bone while scoring in the 1-0 win over Iran. Pulisic is going to consult with the medical staff in the hope of joining the latest training session. He says “I will do everything in my power to work with this medical team and make sure I can play.” Pulisic was in pain when he sprawled on the field after colliding with Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand on Tuesday.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We are going to be answering this question: Are College Athletes the New Influencers? In the beginning of this month, the NCAA passed a new rule that college athletes can begin getting paid off their name, image, and likeness. Athletes can begin to accept endorsements from brands, monetize their social media presences, and work with agencies to facilitate these deals for them. So what does that sound like? Well, it sounds like a lot of college athletes are going to add a new title: influencer. Many college athletes have already cultivated large followings on social media and prior to this ruling were unable to receive any compensation from it. Athletes like Olivia Dunne, a gymnast at LSU has 4 million TikTok followers and over 1 million followers on Instagram. Shareef O'Neal, an LSU basketball player has garnered 2.7 million followers on Instagram. Paige Breukers, a basketball player at UConn has 829K followers on Instagram. These athletes could be raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars in sponsorships with following sizes that big. And brands are already looking forward to this new ruling and the potential audiences they can tap into. The very first brand deal completed by college athletes has already been completed. Only a few minutes after the clock struck midnight Hanna and Haley Cavinder, twin basketball players at Fresno State, made a deal with Boost Mobile. It is quite a historic moment for college sports. Boost Mobile CEO Stephen Stokols told ESPN that the company has a list of 400 college athletes it hopes to partner with in the future. He said the Cavinders will be part of a national advertising campaign, but he's interested in the appeal that many college athletes have on a local level. He said deals could range from annual contracts worth large sums of money to in-kind deals where Boost provides athletes with free cellphones and service plans in exchange for promoting the company on social media. However, this ruling doesn't just impact social media. While brand deals and endorsements are a huge part of it, some college athletes are using this ruling another way. McKenzie Milton, the quarterback at Florida State, and D'Eriq King, the quarterback at University of Miami signed on as co-founders of Dreamfield Co, a company made to help athletes book speaking events, appearances, and other opportunities. They also are looking to become one of the first college athletes to sell nonfungible tokens to sell to their fans. Things that influencers were doing every single day on social media could once revoke athletic scholarships and punish college athletes. Now, this is all changing. Brands, agencies, and of course athletes are buzzing with excitement on the potential this could create. With almost half a million NCAA athletes now eligible to monetize their name, image, and likeness - this is a monumental point in history. I think this is such an exciting time. The fact that it has taken this long for this to be applied and put into effect is mindblowing to me. The number of revenue athletes generates and the amount of influence they have on a college is incredible. However, they were never allowed to get paid for their own brand. They had no ownership of their own brand. I am so excited to see college athletes get paid for what they deserve. I am curious about how athletes will handle this. When influencers on social media started becoming popular, so many networks and agencies were grabbing every single up-and-coming influencer and signing them into long and unfair contracts that were barely read through. I hope that college athletes today do not fall into that trap and are making sure that who they are working with and signing with has their best interest. Name, Image, and Likeness - NIL - goes into effect TODAY. This is one of the biggest developments in college athletics, EVER. CAPITAL LETTERS EVERYWHERE! I got the chance to interview Boost Mobile's CEO Stephen Stokols about NIL. Boost Mobile is sponsoring Hanna and Haley Cavinder, twin guards on the Fresno State women's basketball team. The Cavinder twins have one of the biggest social media followings of any current NCAA athletes as between them, they have over 5 million total followers across Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. NIL will be interesting because it may benefit small business more than it will massive companies like Verizon, Nike, etc. College athletics is very regional in nature. A local bakery shop could get more mileage out of sponsoring a local college basketball player because that player wouldn't even show up on a large company's radar. We talk about some of these issues in the interview. Mr. Stokols talks very fast. There is a LOT going on, and there will be an explosion of announcements about this over the next few days. One point of confusion. We kind of go back and forth about today or tomorrow. I say “Today” because the content wouldn't be released until Thursday. He says “tomorrow” because he thinks I'm putting something out immediately. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
