New rules allowing young athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness are stirring debate. How are lucrative deals impacting the game, ethics and players? Dr Phil discusses whether N.I.L is fair game. From kindergarten through college, students at all levels are competing in athletics. New NCAA rules known as Name, Image, and Likeness allow student athletes to profit off their skill and popularity. The potential for youth stars to receive lucrative deals is changing the game. But is it for the better? Critics say N.I.L is eroding sportsmanship, creating entitled athletes and a new crop of 'sports manager' parents, pushing their kids to the brink for some bucks. Dr. Phil talks to N.I.L sensations the Cavinder Twins, a youth sports trainer, an ambitious basketball dad, and a former pro tennis player about the intense highs and harsh realities of competitive sports. Has there been a more prolific NIL “bag getter” within functional CPG categories than college basketball players Haley and Hanna Cavinder? When college athletes began having the opportunity to receive financial compensation for their Name, Image and Likeness three years ago, the Cavinder twins secured a deal with Six Star Pro Nutrition on the first day. Then, they started working with the sports nutrition brand Bucked Up on an exclusive energy drink. And now…it was just announced Haley and Hanna Cavinder joined the canned protein beverage brand Slate as investors and brand ambassadors. According to NIL tracking sites, the Cavinder twins were projected to earn $1.7 million over the last year, which would rank them the seventh-biggest earners in college athletes. Love it or hate it…the advent of NIL has undeniably reshaped the landscape of college sports. The Idol is the worst, Sami Sheen: Sex Worker, Drew Crime: Michigan version, Demi Lovato's pronouns, Gen Z is ruining concerts, NCAA's "Hot Girl" problem, and KISS Meets Phantom of the Park. Drew leads us off with an unusual topic... The Beatles. Thanks to AI for all the help. TMZ Live is worse (and more watchable) without Harvey and "Gary Dell'Abate". Kendall Jenner decided to wear basically nothing while dining with Hailey Bieber and Lori Harvey. Drew wants to go to dinner with dudes' dongs hanging out. Max's The Idol is a terrible show. There was a line in the last episode that is so bad Drew won't even repeat it. Lily-Rose Depp can't stop making out with her girlfriend that is named 070 Shake. Janelle Monáe is using her massive boobs again to sell her album. Good move! Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen's daughter is on OnlyFans. She claims she's a "sex worker", but she doesn't have sex or show her nipples. Michigan insurance costs are going up even though certain politicians told us they would go down. Sports: Jane Doe #4 & #5 accuse pitcher Trevor Bauer of sexual assault. The Detroit Tigers still suck. Why does Sammy Sosa look different? Drew Crime: We learn of the true crime Michigan story of Jenny Webb. What is Kevin Adell doing with a water tower? And why does Trudi still have a miniature version of it? Gen Z is killing the concert industry by not buying booze. Taylor Swift finally saw what Drew did in Matty Healy. Serena Williams' 5-year-old daughter owns multiple sports teams. The pronouns Demi Lovato made us use for her got exhausting... for HER... because of us. Ezra Miller walked the red carpet like a superhero. Politricks: Hillary Clinton still won't go away as she breaks her silence about Donald Trump's indictment. Jake Tapper did not want to see b-roll of people singing Happy Birthday to Trump at a restaurant. The Rattletrap was nowhere to be found. Ryan Seacrest may replace Pat Sajak as host of Wheel of Fortune. A 63-year-old driver in Argentina had the worst driving test score possibly ever. Marc watches When Elevators and Escalators Attack... but only likes the Escalator parts. Columbian children are tougher than you, but their airplanes are terrible. The NCAA has a "hot girl problem". Starring the Cavinder Twins. US Olympian Tori Bowie was afraid of hospitals and died during childbirth at home. The Starbucks regional manager that was fired after non-paying customers tried using a bathroom has won $25M. Despite being married to a billionaire, Elizabeth Holmes will not be able to afford $250/month in restitution when she is released from prison. Joe Biden doesn't want to discuss the Ukraine and China deals of the past. The Big Guy says it's malarkey. A Bonerliner sent along this scene from KISS Meets Phantom of the Park. We check with Gordon G. G. Gebert on the film and it's reception. We re-live when Joe Namath tossed a touchdown to Bobby Brady. Sponge's Vinnie Dombroski joins us before he gets roasted, Donald Trump pleads not guilty, WATP Karl takes on the Cavinder Twins, hellacious Death Triangle, Ex-Channel 95.5's Spike's new gig, and a new Director of Merch endorsement. Donald Trump's boring indictment dominated the television today. The polls for all the politicians are all in the dump. Rose Montoya is banned from The White House after popping her top at a Pride Event. The campaign for Merch Director is heating up. *Warning* BranDon "stumbled" upon a very NSFW subreddit involving farts. Vinnie Dombroski of Sponge/The Orbitsuns/Crud/Diamondbuck /The Lucid /etc. joins the show to promote the Vin Roast supporting The Polish Day Parade. The Beatles will drop a new AI-powered song from the past. The Detroit Tigers pulled out a nice comeback and Teebs was front and center reppin' DMP. Javier Baez remains a villain and wants you to "shut the f**k up". The Denver Nuggets are the 2023 NBA Champions. Nikola Jokic is not interested in sticking around for the parade in Denver. Death Square: RIP Silvio Berlusconi. RIP Unabomber again. RIP Treat Williams. RIP Cormac McCarthy. Pat Sajak is finally leaving Wheel of Fortune. Comedians aren't always good on radio. WATP's Karl Hamburger joins the show to complain about the struggles of owning two homes, destroy the overrated Cavinder Twins, promote his upcoming live show at the Magic Bag and more. Spike from Mojo in the Morning has found his calling: Tour Guide. BranDon had a harrowing experience with his first camping adventure. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds have a new album out and should be in town soon. Bob Rivers will be interviewing Drew Lane at the end of the week. His music parodies remain legendary. We enjoy more of Kamala Harris' 'Veep Thoughts'. Some idiot dressed in an old school prison uniform and was arrested at Trump's court hearing. We should be able to get hammered in the stadiums at college football games this fall. MSU bought part of the Fisher Building for some reason. Jana Abulaban is not a fan of Israel. Former Fresno St. basketball players Haley and Hanna Cavinder have earned at least $2 million since the Supreme Court forced the NCAA to change its NIL policy — prompting critics to note that they're cashing in on their good looks rather than their abilities on the court. The owners of the Westfield San Francisco Centre mall are giving up the property to lenders, adding to deepening real estate pain in a city struggling to bring back workers and tourists after the pandemic. The mall, co-owned by Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield and Brookfield Corp., has $558 million in outstanding mortgage debt. Management will be turned over to a receiver. An analysis by The Standard shows that 45 stores, or 46% of the mall's 97 pre-pandemic retailers, have closed since 2020. While 21 new stores have opened in the past three years. Locked On Canes - Daily Podcast On Miami Hurricanes Football & Basketball
The Miami Hurricanes athletic department is on probation for the next year after NCAA enforcement claims an improper meeting took place between the Cavinder Twins of the women's basketball team and LifeWallet CEO John Ruiz before the Cavinders officially transferred to Miami. The NCAA claimed an impermissible benefit was given to them in the form of a dinner, and they sanctioned women's basketball coach Katie Meier for helping facilitate the meeting even though she was not present for it. Lawyer Darren Heitner, who represents the Cavinder twins, joins host Alex Donno to discuss the event and the NCAA's findings. Heitner tells Donno that he has been informed that dinner was never actually served at the meeting, which contradicts the NCAA's findings if that's the case. Heitner explains to Donno what it actually means to be on probation and how this could affect the Miami football program. Donno and Heitner discuss the constant moving target in the way the NCAA regulates NIL and recruiting. Heitner points out that this particular case is not really an NIL case but actually an alleged recruiting violation, meaning the media is characterizing the event improperly. Alex discusses the collapse from the men's basketball team, which lost to Florida State on a buzzer beater. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
Chase Garrett and Drew Butler joined the How to Play the Game Podcast to break down the first month of name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights for college athletes and highlight how their company, Icon Source, has played a role in the explosion of athlete deals during the first four weeks. They highlighted how their platform now has over 10,000 athletes and thousands of brands, connecting to engage in potential NIL deals such as the landmark agreement negotiated between Haley and Hanna Cavinder (the Cavinder Twins) and Boost Mobile. They expect gold medalist Suni Lee to have great opportunities as she enrolls at Auburn and hope to be part of Bryce Young doing deals beyond the roughly $1 million that he has thus far secured (Bryce is on the Icon Source platform). The biggest brand campaign that they have had on the Icon Source platform was over 6-figures. Amazingly, no school compliance department has rejected any of their athlete/brand deals. After a month, Drew and Chase say that they have had more deal flow than they could have imagined and that the biggest surprise thus far is how many athletes are receiving great deals that they are rejecting.
