Attitude. It's everything, right? It's easy to recite a platitude like that when things are going well, or perhaps when we experience the inevitable speed bump in life. How about when everything you've invested in a person's spiritual development goes awry as they make poor choice after poor choice? There's nothing you can do about it. After all, it's not like you can live someone's life for them. In a situation like that, "attitude is everything" is not a platitude. It's the only way one can persevere through the situation. Our guest today, Pastor Jerry Hobbs has experienced this firsthand, and will share how the only way to find peace through an otherwise hopeless situation with a loved one was to simply release the individual - and the situation - to God and allow Him to do his great work. In our conversation with Pastor Jerry Hobbs, you'll hear: -Pastor Jerry's spiritual journey and some personal breakthroughs he's experienced...05:06 -How to choose to not engage with a toxic situation in the home...12:30 -Taking authority over a situation that on the surface is desperate...22:12 -Moving forward without reflecting on what could have been done about a situation...27:30 -The best piece of advice Jerry has ever received...33:18 -Fun things about Jerry and a closing prayer...34:30 Call to action: To learn more about Wendie and her Visibly Fit program, visit wendiepett.com To find out more about Todd and his coaching program for men, find him on the web at toddisberner.com. April Katherman-Redgrave is an author, speaker, blogger, and founder of Beauty for Our Ashes Ministry. As the surviving widow of fallen San Jose Police Motors Officer Michael J. Katherman, April experienced unimaginable brokenness and despair but also witnessed how God redeemed a terrible situation into one of great beauty and joy. Once a school teacher and aspiring educational administrator, April now writes and speaks to encourage law enforcement, the grieving, the divorced, blended families, and finding love after loss.Book Brief April Katherman-Redgrave is the surviving widow of fallen San Jose Police Motors Officer Michael J. Katherman, who was struck by another vehicle in 2016. Six months later, their dream home was flooded during the 2017 winter storms in Hollister, California-not once but five times-destroying their house and forcing April and her two sons to rely on the kindness of friends, community, and family to pick up the pieces. Through Hell and High Water chronicles unimaginable tragedy, loss, heartbreak, and loneliness, yet also how God faithfully brought her family through the other side of a tunnel where once there was no light to be seen. Told with rawness, transparency, and humor too, this is a story of redemption, courage, strength, forgiveness, and blessing, as God began to make all things new in ways she could never have imagined.Though we may never understand why God allowed these tragedies to happen to the Kathermans, Through Hell and High Water shows He has been and will always be in control, even down to the smallest detail. God's love and purpose is still shining brightly in April, as she shares her beauty-from-ashes, redemptive story to encourage others, honor her husband in heaven, and glorify all God has done in her life. This book speaks to the heart of the grieving, law enforcement families, divorced or blended families, or anyone who has experienced loss and is struggling to find hope in a broken life. May you find encouragement, strength, and purpose through April's story, God's story.Book Linkhttps://www.amazon.com/Through-Hell-High-Water-Redeeming/dp/1646452275/ref=sr_1_3?crid=SHIS8EE1FFBZ&dchild=1&keywords=through+hell+and+high+water+april+katherman&qid=1624651133&sprefix=through+hell%2Caps%2C325&sr=8-3Guest Social Mediahttps://www.instagram.com/beautyforourashesblog/https://www.instagram.com/beautyforourashesblog/Host InformationYour host Jerry D. Originally from SoCal, Corey Sierra grew up in Las Vegas where he lives with his wife and two daughters. He served 6-years on active duty with the United States Navy. He chose to pursue firefighting as a post-military career. After obtaining his NREMT certification, he worked with the BLM on a Type-2 crew. As a national resource, the Southern Nevada interagency hand crew fought fire on large-scale incidents in the Southwest region. During the off-season, he worked part-time with the ambulance in Vegas and went to college to obtain his IFSAC firefighting certifications. In 2012 he left the BLM to accept the job at MCLB Barstow Fire & Emergency Servicesand has been there ever since. He has advanced certifications as a Hazmat & Rescue Technician, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, & Fire Officer I & II. He is also a Driver/Operator for the Department. He has a passion for training and enjoys mentoring probationary firefighters. In 2018, he started First Tuesday Training (FTT). A multi-agency training initiative aimedtoward improving mutual aid emergency operations & relationships in the North Hi-Desert of SoCal. The initiative has partners from the surrounding area participating in the FTT program.Partners include, paid and volunteer Fire Departments, private ambulance, air transportationservice, sheriff, and local businesses. Agencies meet on the First Tuesday of every month towork on an area of training relative to the calls ran together. Each agency alternates as a leadinstructor so relative knowledge can be dispersed.Propelled by a strong desire to do more, FF Sierra founded the Silver Valley Fire Alliance (SVFA) to assist the volunteer fire departments in the region obtain training, equipment, and recruitment. Still, in its first year of operating existence, SVFA has become a pillar of improvement for the Daggett, Yermo, and Newberry Springs Volunteer Fire Departments. With donations from local businesses and generous individuals, SVFA has been able to provide new hand tools, gloves, various hose fittings, uniforms, badges, helmet shields, assorted PPE, boots, bottled water, bedding, and tuition/book reimbursements for the hardworking and well-deservingdepartments.The Silver Valley Fire Alliance is very grateful and proud of the impact it has had in theNorth Hi-Desert thus far. Lillian Carney is the President and Executive Director for the Carney Strong Initiative. Shejoined the non-profit organization in 2018 to honor the memory of her husband, Battalion Chief Josh Carney, who lost his battle with firefighter cancer after 25 years in the fire service. Carney Strong is making a difference in smaller fire departments across the country by providing decontamination supplies and educational resources, at no cost to the department.Lillian is an outspoken advocate of firefighter cancer prevention and preparedness. Though she does express the need for improving fire ground protocols around decontamination, Lillian focuses her time sharing the lessons learned and hard truths from personal experience. She is hopeful that the straightforward approach of sharing their cancer journey will drive dialogue and preparedness for both the firefighter and their families, protecting them from experiencing similar loss.Topics Of DiscussionEarly Detection/Proactive Approach VS Waiting for the Time to Call the Doctor – I avoid the would have, could have, should have game, but it still needs to be addressed. Our outcome may have been different if we were proactive.Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Affects EVERY everything -From the moment the words are spoken, everything changes, from the firefighter to the caregiver, to friends and family. Everything is affected –who will drive the kids to school and soccer, who drives the FF to treatment, who cuts the grass. The FF not wanting to be left alone just in case he needs help now alters the caregiver's freedom with even a simple trip to the grocery store, etc.Presumptive Cancer Laws - South Carolina – In 2017 (and still today) SC doesn't any laws in place so Josh's death in not considered LODD. I started working with other organizations in the state to formulate the SC Firefighter Cancer Coalition. We wrote the bill and worked with state legislature. Fingers crossed on the budget passing, July 1, 2021 the SC Firefighter Cancer Health Care Benefit Plan Act No 168 will be official.Choices Made While You're Alive, Prepare Your Family for Life After Death – from life insurance, to family photos, to having a last will and testament, to attending the daddy/daughter dance.Carney Strong Contact Information Website: www.carneystrong.orgFacebook: www.facebook.com/CarneyStrongTwitter: www.twitter.com/StrongCarney Instagram: www.instagram.com/carneystronginitiativeEmail: Info@CarneyStrong.orgHost InformationYour host Jerry D. Cute. Clever. Mischievous. Intelligent. Dangerous. What more is there to say about this 1984 sleeper hit that somehow morphed the well-worn snowy small town Christmas tales with little monsters your older siblings whispered about around Summer campfires or bonfires at Halloween. So turn off your Zenith television, put away your left over fried chicken, and head to Kingston Falls as Tim Williams and guest co-host, Jerry D. (from "Totally Rad Christmas" Podcast), discuss “Gremlins” from 1984 on this episode of the 80's Flick Flashback! Here are some additional behind the scenes trivia we were unable to cover in this episode: There are references to the crew's previous projects, including some Spielberg shout-outs on the Kingston Falls theater marquee (where early working titles for both "Close Encounters" and "E.T." are listed), a poster for Twilight Zone: The Movie (Spielberg and Dante's first collaboration), and a mention of Dr. Fantasy (the nickname of producer Frank Marshall). The scenes set at the trade show attended by Rand Petlzer (Hoyt Axton) feature brief appearances by Spielberg, composer Jerry Goldsmith, and Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet. Legendary animation director Chuck Jones even pops up as Billy's artist friend in an early bar scene. Although it is not clearly visible, "Four Magic Moves to Winning Golf", by Joe Dante, Sr. is on Billy's nightstand. Director Joe Dante, Jr. said his father criticized him for not making the title more visible. At the end of the movie, Gizmo pops the window blind to expose Stripe to the sunlight. The original edit featured Gizmo lifting the shade, then Billy. Again, Spielberg suggested to Dante that the film show Gizmo to be more of the hero of the story than Billy. Dante agreed and the scene was edited to clearly show it was Gizmo that stopped Stripe. The Rusoh Eliminator is the First complete redesign of the Fire Extinguisher in over 65 Years. The Rusoh® Eliminator® fire extinguisher is designed for self-service. It eliminates the need for the specially trained and equipped licensed technician required for traditional extinguishers. That need is based on two concerns: 1) maintaining the stored pressure in the extinguisher at the 185-205 psi levels required to fight a fire and 2) maintaining the otherwise inaccessible agent chemical inside the extinguisher in a fluffed (fluid) state. Concern 1: Correct Pressure: Unlike traditional pressure extinguishers, The Rusoh® Eliminator® fire extinguisher's contents are not stored under pressure. The Rusoh® Eliminator® is only pressurized when you need it: to fight a fire. The source of the pressure is an expellant cartridge you can check with ease and even replace yourself. It simply screws in place. Concern 2: Fluffed Agent: Maintaining the agent chemical inside the extinguisher in a fluid state is critical for both the Rusoh® Eliminator® and standard extinguishers. Fine particles in the chemical naturally compact and become dense, potentially making discharge ineffective and putting you and your business at risk. Regulations for a standard extinguisher require a trained technician to periodically tear down extinguishers. The technician depressurizes the extinguisher, empties and replaces the chemical agent, and then re-pressurizes the unit. In contrast, the Rusoh® Eliminator® extinguisher's chemical agent is fully accessible to the user via the patented Rusoh® fluffing wheel located at the bottom of the extinguisher. The Rusoh® wheel eliminates the need for a technician. By periodically turning the fluffing wheel, you can yourself maintain the powder in a fluid state. The Rusoh® fluffing wheel is connected to an auger that fluffs the chemical, ensuring that the agent will flow freely when needed to put out a fire. Here's a video overview of The Eliminator: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNU6EfdB2fo&t=9s The Rousseau Family, who have been in the Fire Extinguisher Service Business for 30+ years, tell of the tragic story which was their epiphany to begin this decade long journey. As you can imagine, the hurdles that were and still are being put up by the entrenched extinguisher manufacturers, service companies and manufacturers of generic extinguisher parts, gives testament to our mission to help save lives and protect property.Social Media Linkshttps://www.instagram.com/firetechnologyinnovations/https://www.facebook.com/firetechnologyinnovations/https://www.linkedin.com/company/fire-technology-innovations/https://www.teamfti.com/eliminatorHost Contact InformationYour host Jerry D. Listen to some of Anthony's most memorable stories over his career and what made them memorable. He also reflects on the many different positions throughout his service and what loved about them. Anthony is the creator and host of “The Off Duty Podcast”.Two years ago he tried to create a Facebook show where I interviewed the men and women of law enforcement. The premise of the show was to allow the public the opportunity to see that the men and women that proudly put on that uniform everyday are human! He discovered that it would be difficult to get officers outside of my region to appear on the show, so he had to shelve the idea. Then thanks to Joe Rogan (The Joe Rogan Experience and Joe Budden (The Joe Budden Podcast) podcasts became cool and The Off Duty Podcast was born.Social media Linkshttps://theoffdutypodcast.com/https://www.instagram.com/theoffdutypodcast/https://www.linkedin.com/in/anthony-mcneil-3813741ab/Your host Jerry D. Jerry D. Lund has 30+ years as a first responder. The incredible thing about Jerry, is that he's both a police officer and fire fighter... And his department is not a "public safety" department. If you suffer from depression, PTSD or any other mental health situation as a result of being a first responder. Then I encourage you to listen to this episode and hear Jerry's story. Besides pulling double duty, protecting and serving, Jerry is also the host of the "https://heroespodcastnetwork.com/enduring-the-badge-podcast/ (Enduring the Badge)" podcast, which is a part of the "https://heroespodcastnetwork.com (Everyday Heroes Podcast Network)". SHOW SEGMENTS01:46 – Lead Off Question: Why law enforcement is the first question I ask each guest. But in Jerry's case, it's why law enforcement and why firefighting. 10:01 – Dig Deeper: This is where I pick several posts from the guest's social media and form questions around those posts. I usually select several of the guest's social media post to craft questions around. With Jerry there was only one post I chose to focus on and it had to do with him wanting to take his own life. 35:15 – Random Seven: Here I use an app to create 7 totally random questions. Here's the list of questions I asked Jerry: What's the number thing at the top of your bucket list? Complete this sentence with anything other than your job title: I am a _________? Have you ever given a present to someone that they hated or disliked? Have you ever gotten anything autographed, if so by who and what was it? What 3 things would you leave in a time capsule for someone to open in 50 years? Do you avoid conflict with your partner? Would you rather your mom or your boss get a copy of every text you've sent and received? 41:45 – This or That: This is my “Rapid fire” round. I give the guest two topics and they have to select one over the other. Apple or Android Leather Jacket or hoodie Midnight or noon Books: Digital, hardback or paperback Flat tire or run out of gas Television series or movie Broccoli or green beans Beach or mountains Call or text Roller coasters or bumper cars FOLLOW JERRY:https://www.facebook.com/enduringthebadge (Facebook) https://www.instagram.com/enduringthebadgepodcast (Instagram) https://twitter.com/EnduringBadge (Twitter) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe6ttbBL34KC4t_6EL512cA (YouTube) https://www.linkedin.com/in/jerry-dean-lund/ (LinkedIn) VACATION VOUCHER GIVEAWAY Every Monday I select one random person to give a 3 night / 4 day vacation voucher. RoGo Fire is developing an advanced satellite integrated communication solutionincluding devices and software designed to enable wildland firefighters tocommunicate and access data in remote areas where cellular service is unreliable ornot available. Our mission is to deliver a communication system that will reduce line of duty deaths, firefighting expense and property damage, as well as improve firefighter situationalawareness by ensuring a productive deployment of emergency responders and amore effective hazard response execution utilizing state of the art communicationstechnology. On today’s large wild land fires, there is a lack of current and consistentcommunication technology to support the firefighting personnel – resulting incommunications inaccuracies, no communication at all and limited timely updates. This is primarily due to the constant hand-off of information between parties (think thetelephone game), no VHF or cellular service in remote areas, use of two-way radiosand the large distances between parties in a remote emergency scene.RoGo has developed a patented integrated satellite communications systemincorporating GPS / SatCom enabled tablets/phones and portable GPS transceivers(Dropballs), the latest incident management software and SatCom communicationsproviders. Our Firefighting Advanced Asset, Communication, Tracking System(FAACTS) will enable firefighters to communicate with incident command andemergency response operations in real time and share up to the minute vital sceneinformation, like the status & GPS location of firefighters and resources, weather, digital mapping, photos, changes in assignment, etc.Initially, we are targeting firefighting and emergency responders who are in desperateneed of newer communication technology. All types of hazard response teams couldutilize this system.Secondary markets in consideration are DoD, insurance, remote mining, oil & gas, logging, utilities, outdoor adventure, commercial fishing, remote healthcare and allhazard incidents. We extend the functionality of any SaaS platform in cellular denied areas. The secret sauce of the RoGo System is based on our patented 3-part system. Weoffer a completely integrated solution that provides technology and functionality to allof those involved in wild land firefighting. We are focused on providing a wildlandfirefighting solution that brings information and technology to those who need it themost – the firefighters in remote areas. FAACTS is based on the best SATCOM databandwidth available, a wildland fire asset tracking and data resource communicationsystem, touch screen position calling for direct communication and GPS location andtracking devices with vector positioning for slurry drops and a GPS/Satcom enabledtablet that is deployable to the crews – providing access to situational awarenessinformation needed to be more effective in their efforts.RoGo Fire Website rogofire.comYour host Jerry D. This novel is a work of fiction, loosely based on some of my experiences as a small-town police officer and firefighter. I have changed the names and personal details of the men and women with whom I served and others with whom I interacted in order to protect their privacy.Joseph Patrick Fair is a father to college age twins Jenny and Ryan; they are the center of his universe. He lives in West Michigan. Also a retired Police Officer and Firefighter who served his community for over 25 years, after a near fatal on duty accident found his inner-author. His writing is trademark courage and camaraderie with a sprinkling of small-town-ism. On any given day, Joseph can be found writing or championing a philanthropic cause. He is a man of purpose and meaning in life.Your host Jerry D. I live in Oakland with my wife and three kids. I grew up in Oakland, California, and I now serve the citizens as a Firefighter. I was hired in 2002 and I have worked in the East end my whole career on 7 Truck and 6 Truck companies. I am currently the senior Firefighter on the B shift at Station 18. In 2007/2008 I dove deep into CrossFit, and then got lost in the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which I still practice, along with my weekly yoga practice. I am also an Advanced Certified Trainer in The Wim Hof Method. Since 2007 I have worked with cadre to train all incoming Oakland Fire Department recruits in the areas of physical fitness, mental and physical fortitude and general mind/body connection to improve overall quality of life at work as well as at home. For as long as I can remember, I was passionate about fitness, overall health, wellness, and general optimization and human potential. Over the years, I’ve found myself seeking the unification of mind, body, soul/spirit to achieve peak performance through all aspects of my life. Through my coaching experience, I’ve been drawn to coach and train others in much of what I’ve learned. I’ve discovered that sharing this, guiding others and helping them grow brings tremendous joy to my life. 1958 After the construction of the Jerry D. Jackson Bridge, a bridge spanning 1200 feet across the Chattahoochee River in Georgia, two young women plunged their 54’ Ford sedan off the bridge into the newly created Lake Lanier. Fast forward 18 months. A local fisherman noticed something bobbing in the lake water. Upon further inspection the fisherman realizes that his find was not that of a large catch, but instead a bloated body. The body was unrecognizable; missing toes and, strangely, both hands. Everyone in the town believed that the body belonged to Delia Parker Young, one of the two girls who plunged into the Lakes depths just a year-and-a-half prior. Over the years the area around Lake Lanier and the Jerry D Jackson Bridge have been the epicenter of many violent accidents, missing people, and strange lights and sounds. However one ghost story is particularly captivating to the public: Many of the locals claim that if you drive across the Jerry D Jackson Bridge at night you will encounter a ghost - a woman wearing a beautiful blue dress, a woman… "With No Hands" Check out our socials for more updates!
