J Darrin Gross I'd like to ask you, Jon Howard, what is the BIGGEST RISK?   Jon Howard I think the BIGGEST RISK, from my perspective, and I'll take, I guess, my client's perspective on this, is making sure that if you're a science based tenant or or even a owner, like a you own a building and you want to attract science based tenants, making sure that the whatever facility they're going into can meet the needs of those types of tenants. I think we've seen, luckily, not too often in my own personal experience, but we have seen in the industry, you know, a building being built for maybe a single tenant, even if it was a lab tenant, being built for a tenant or a tenant type that doesn't have the kind of the metrics that a science based tenant will be looking for. So, you know, making sure that the Structural base spacing is adequate, or is on 11 foot module, that's kind of the rule of thumb, so that you can have all your bench benches laid out efficiently and have enough space to walk around and not run into a column, making sure you've got enough floor to floor height. So typically, what we try to look for with a prospective tenant is making sure that the building can accommodate a 15 foot floor height so that they can accommodate all the ventilation systems and everything that go into a lab space. Or sometimes, if it's not that high, designing enough floor mechanical space in the floor area to kind of make up that kind of lack of ceiling area that you you would be missing. So I think just from my own perspective, especially with investors that are real estate developers that are looking into getting into the sciences, I think the biggest risk is landing that tenant and then the tenant not being able to get into the building, or having some serious issues with the building that they weren't cognizant of. So what we do here at H, E, D is often we'll work with landlords or tenants to to help them assess in a building asset and make sure that it can accommodate whatever tenants they're looking for, or if it doesn't recommend. Some upgrades that might be needed to attract those tenants. Or in the tenants perspective, you know, create a list of things that need to change before you can sign a lease or or what have you so, because if, if you're locked in and the building doesn't work, then that that can be a major issue, especially for science tenants that have, you know, an ROI that they have to adhere to, and, you know, develop a product to market at a certain time frame.   https://www.hed.design/   https://www.linkedin.com/in/jon-howard-aia-cdt-6056604/

Generally when you think of solo artists - particularly in heavy metal - you automatic reaction is that a solo artist couldn't possibly possess all of the necessary skills and attributes to fully flesh out what is required to make a splash on the metal scene. If, like me, you think that way then take a listen to The Overcoming Project, the solo effort from Melbourne solo artist Doctor Mike Trubetskov and your mind will be blown.Trubestskov has recently released the closing chapter to his 'Determination Trilogy' of music with the brutally crushing 'Victory'.Inspired by an ominous mix of death and doom inspired riffs, spine crushing breakdowns and fast paced grooves, 'Victory' is just that for The Overcoming Project. Not that Trubetskov has done this alone. He has enlisted the skills of drummer Mike Heller (Fear Factory) and vocalist Jon Howard (Threat Signal) to expand his personal vision with the help of world class musicians who have bought into his vision.HEAVY caught up with Trubetskov to find out more, starting with just what The Overcoming Project is."It's a solo...," he measured, "it's an interesting one. Because I've been in a band called Gift Of Madness in Moscow and when I moved here to Australia years ago I had no band. I had no-one, and I knew no-one, but I kept writing some music and I kept refining some ideas and they were just sitting there. Then I had some doctorate challenges and visa challenges and life challenges in general and I kept putting them into those riffs and that musical direction and still they were just sitting there. In 2020- I think it was 2019 - I decided that I wanted to publish them. I started with the track 'Anxiety', which we published at HEAVY, and I hired some session musicians - Mike Heller from Fear Factory and Jon Howard from Threat Signal - and we also collaborated with my mate Sergie, who is from Moscow and he is my old friend and we did some stuff on the Russian music scene. That's how it came together."Solo projects have their obvious advantages and disadvantages, so we press Trubetskov on whether The Overcoming Project is a solo outfit because he couldn't find like minder people to work with in a band environment or whether he didn't want to relinquish creative control."It's just easier and it worked that way," he shrugged. "I wanted a very high quality studio recording and a bit of a challenge in terms of production and how things were put together rather than played. There were really particular ideas about the guitar tone and the guitar performance, stuff like that. About drums, about bass, and that's why it primarily existed as a studio project."In the full interview, Mike talks about the new single 'Victory', the heaviness of the song, working with Heller and Howard, how 'Victory' wraps up the trilogy of songs, how he feels about the journey now it is over, future music and more.

Malacoda brings a different approach to the heavy metal world. Taking the long way around, the band has experimented with different styles and subgenres within the heavy metal scene and emerged with a sense of style and urgency. Their latest release, 'The Year Walk,' came out in late 2021 and it's a sweet 15-minute extended play confection. For a guy like me, Malacoda brings a distinct subtlety to the arrangement and one that resonates very, very well. Currently, the band finds itself a trio, and I was fortunate enough to meet both songwriter Lucas Di Mascio and bass player Zak Stulla for an hour long chat that went off on the exact tangents I enjoy. We had a conversation, not a question and answer panel discussion, and it was great fun. Make sure you head over to their webpage, buy the new EP and definitely pick up some merch as well. There are singers, there are vocalists, there are front men, and there are a very small few who own all three categories. Jon Howard, of Imonolith is that guy. I've been a fan since the early 2000's when Jon's old band, Threat Signal, made a serious splash on a website designed to help you discover the world's best talent. At the time, Threat Signal was riding the top of the metal charts at Garage band, and garnering attention from every heavy music media outlet in the world. Who were these masters from Hamilton Ontario? Where did the come from and what musical sorcery was this?Turns out, Jon and his band were just sort of winging it. Nobody in the band really knew what they had, but amazingly, they were heard by the right ears, and transported around the world, creating this mystery and weird legend that helped Jon fully form, sprout his less than angelic wings, and never fully place his feet on the ground again. Our chat was utter madness and I had an amazing time... not gonna lie. That said, we still live in a world where the internet isn't our friend and occasionally we get audio lags and drop offs, so excuse us in advance.... however, most importantly, we have a righteous conversation and I got a new friend out of the deal.If you didn't know Jon before, or if truly brutal heavy metal scares you, well... take another listen and consider that maybe, just maybe you've been missing out. This is my interview with the voice of destruction, rage, and anger.

Science to Building Resilience You will exhibit 2 levels to brain development when facing a threatening challenge. 1. Recognizing the threat - The brain learns most rapidly under life threat so if your survival is threatened the brain starts developing new pathways to figure out how to respond and adapt. 2. Love & Safety - When we feel safe and secure we take risks and our mind is more open and we get less rigid. It takes the combo of a life threatening situation with love and safety When someone is facing a challenge they get tunnel vision and freak out and resilient goes out the window but if you can provide safety through love they stay soft and open and build that capacity.

Help those who desire to learn and grow every single day First of all, the idea I’m going to talk about today applies across many things. I would like to highlight now and again at the end of this podcast today that in order for any of it to work, relentless, often disorganized action must occur. Until it does nothing is going to change.
