Kelly Ward was a 3x finalist and an NCAA champion for Iowa State. He was also voted the most outstanding wrestler of the NCAA tournament in 1979. Kelly had 6 epic battles with the great Lee Kemp and posted an amazing record of 126-9. He defeated the great Dave Schultz, he was an assistant coach at Nebraska, he coached Olympians, he was a secret service agent, his dad was a legendary football player, the man is a damn champion. I had a lot of fun getting to know him some and hearing some great stories.

In this episode, we speak with Kelly Ward, a registered nurse who started her career quite early in life before she got her certifications. In this era, where health care workers are under a ton of stress, it's people like Ward, who are still able to remember why they got into their line of work. Special shout out to the medical professionals and the front line workers who have shown their true prowess during the coronavirus pandemic. We appreciate you and respect you for all that you do.
Community advocacy, collaboration, and economic recovery. These are things that are of paramount importance to the latest guest on Your Neck of the Woods. DJ Kelly a candidate for Ward 4, and community engagement strategist at the University of Calgary as well as a former columnist for Metro and Alberta at Noon has a lot to say on these subjects. As it so happens you know I have lots to say on these subjects and so when we met recently on a tour of Platform Calgary's innovation Centre asking him to be a guest on the show was a natural fit.The tour of Platform Calgary innovation Centre was the catalyst for much of our conversation on economic recovery as well. In order to get our city economy back where it wanted to be fiscal responsibility must be coupled with the support of entrepreneurs, activation and retention of Calgary's students, and the attraction of new global business partners. My recent experience, as well as past experience advocating for disability issues, tell me that having a lot of core resources in one easily accessible place can be an accelerator to getting things done and DJ and I both believe that this project can accomplish this goal.Dj's experience and our collective frustration found us discussing the all-too-familiar pattern of vague broad policy announcements from the City Council which don't lend well to practical solutions that you know I advocate for. Specific, measurable, and attainable goals are ultimately what would lead to positive outcomes and alongside data transparency are things the city has been lacking for a while now. The ability to prioritize these things is important to me and seems very important to my guest. The future of the city that we call home and love depends on not only ineffective economic recovery but the engagement of all Calgarians. If we want to see a bright future in Your Neck of the Woods we can't settle for the way things are, let's be great!

Stripping Away Illusions about the Republican Party. Recognizing the enduring slavery of America First GOP Voters, who happen to be the vast unquestioned majority. The facts of the matter: GOP Voters came together in 2016 to elect a Real President, but from that moment onwards minority fringe GOP Establishment Fanatics determined to lie, cheat and steal it all away. Toward that end, RINO Leaders have worked with Democrats to help remove Trump and get back to business as usual. We speak the truth of the Cheneys, Romneys, Bushes, McCains and McConnells. GOP Voters need to understand their real situation in order to overcome their state of servitude. Let us face things squarely. The goal is liberation. A brilliant thread from Mollie Hemingway. Meanwhile, reviewing a viral video from Malcolm Flex on Biden's Gas Lines. Sure it's bad, but at least no more "mean tweets" in America! Our analysis of how the PSYOP MSM cleverly redirects our impulses for "politeness" against the interests of the American People. Preferring wimpitude over America itself? Plus, the latest on the Arizona Audit from Kelly Ward and Dinesh D'Souza. Why have Democrats sent 73 lawyers to Maricopa County? Also, the Biden WH blames "Easter" for its bad jobs numbers, but they don't seem to know when Easter actually happened this year. Whoops. We've interviewed well over 100 people in 2019 and you can hear most of them on the InsTech London podcasts. Our guests share fantastic insights - whether on stage speaking to us at our events, or for Matthew's longer in-depth interviews. The leaders from insurance companies, the founders and CEO of technology companies (small and large) that they are working with and others that are truly influencing the shape of the industry. Over the break we've been looking to see what consistent themes have emerged during our chats to some of the leading figures from a handful of the largest and most well-known insurance companies in the world. Some of the most frequent topics that came up were: Why it's important to look at the customers' problems when considering innovation opportunities. How data is really being used, with a particular emphasis on what the future of IOT holds. The importance of partnerships between insurtech and other technology providers and insurers. The emergence of the augmented underwriter. How to encourage innovation throughout a large organisation. We're starting off the year with the specific thoughts on these topics pulled from conversations with some of our most popular guests: Sean Ringsted, Chief Digital Officer for Chubb (episode 35) Graham Elliott, CEO & Founder of Azur Underwriting (episode 37) Adrian Jones, Head of Ventures & Strategic Partnerships at SCOR Global P&C (episode 42) James Slaughter, CUO for Commercial Speciality at Liberty Mutual (episode 47) Kelly Ward, AXA Partners on stage at Instech London in November (episode 55) Michele Williams, Head of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty's central innovation unit XSE (episode 56) This episode will give you a useful taster of our full interview (or a chance to hear the highlights again) but the originals are definitely worth a listen. Kelly Ward knows better than many the need to reinvent yourself ... TAG Interview with Kelly WardFind all TAG Interviews on the TAG website at this link Mr. Ward, you see, was a professional actor at a young age. He worked on stage, he worked in television, he worked in movies. And he was successful at it. But then he had the bad luck to grow older, and miss out on roles he earlier snagged with regularity. He relates that a casting director told him, "We don't need to hire you for the teenager's part. We can just hire a real teenager.") So Kelly changed the direction of his career arc. In the mid-80s he was collaborating on scripts with animation veteran Jeff Segal, and soon after he was hired as an assistant story editor on Hanna-Barbera';s Go Bots. For awhile, he continued acting. But the animation work was steadier. In the span of three decades he has written numerous script, served as a story editor, produced, and directed voice actors. (He's also done some voice acting himself.) Today Kelly is directing voice talen on Jake and the Neverland Pirates, also collaborating with animation veterans Cliff MacGillivray and Phil Mendez on The Note Hunter: The Case of the Haunted Swamp. Why is Kelly now writing books? After so many years in animation. It's that "constantly reinventing yourself" thing.
