Marcus Loane said no. The King said yes. For the first time in more than 800 years, an English monarch has prayed publicly with the Pope.King Charles III — the Supreme Governor of the Church of England — joined Pope Leo XIV in the Sistine Chapel in a highly choreographed moment of unity. But for many Protestants, this was not a moment to celebrate, but to grieve,The Reformation was born out of deep conviction that Rome had departed from the apostolic gospel — that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Those convictions have not changed. And yet, the sight of a Protestant king kneeling in prayer beside the Pope suggests that they believe these dividing lines no longer matter, that the Reformation is no longer relevant.Half a century ago, in 1970, when Pope Paul VI visited Australia, Sydney Anglican Archbishop Sir Marcus Loane — refused to pray with the Pope, saying shared prayer implied shared faith, and that the great truths of the Reformation still mattered: salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.Loane's grandson, Dr Stephen Tong, joins Rachel Ciano, Lecturer in Church History at Sydney Missionary and Bible College, and Dominic Steele on The Pastor's Heart to discuss what's happened in Rome this week - as the leaders of the Roman Catholic and Church of England Churches downplay the Reformation's significance. This week Nicola and Di chat with the wise and incredible Sally Loane. Sally has had a remarkable career from starting as a journalist in print media, moving into broadcasting with ABC radio, before jumping into the corporate world and establishing herself as a non-executive director on several boards - including being the first woman on the board at the NSW Waratahs in its 135 year history! She is currently the Chairman of Destination NSW and sits on the board for several charities and other organisations. She is such an inspiring woman, who has consistently reinvented herself and believes in stepping up courageously when new opportunities present themselves. In this conversation, we go right back to Sally’s childhood and what it was like growing up in Tenterfield, spending her mornings being homeschooled by mum, and her afternoons in the paddock with dad. She shares how her country upbringing taught her so much about resilience, which she would come to rely on later in life when she experienced great loss. We talk all about Sally’s early career in journalism, her time as a political reporter, the mentors she had along the way and how terrifying it was for her to make the switch from print to broadcasting and being live-on-air with the ABC. We also find out that Di was one of Sally’s loyal listeners from her days at the ABC and has been a bit of a fan girl ever since. We chat about Sally’s career transitions and reinventions and how she finds the confidence to keep taking on the next challenge. Sally is also passionate about women’s financial independence and so we talk about finance, why it has been a taboo topic in the past, and she shares some great tips for women to look after their financial health and how it’s never too late to contribute to your super. This was such a wonderful conversation with Sally, and we could have talked with her for hours. It was just like chatting with a girlfriend. We hope you enjoy this as much as we did. In December of 1777, the 12,000 man army of General George Washington marched into Valley Forge to build a winter encampment. In addition to the soldiers, more than 400 women were in the column. They were not only the wives of senior officers but the wives of soldiers who had followed the army since it was assembled. Social Justice is a fiercely contested concept among Christians. Often discussions about caring for the poor have not been grounded in a biblical vision for gospel ministry.. Evangelicals have been criticized for appearing to be weak on social justice. The charge is that we have been so focused on gospel ministry that the poor and disadvantaged have been neglected. How does caring for the poor fit with the mission of Jesus church? Tim Swan is the CEO of Sydney's Anglican Aid, which hosted an important conference last weekend ‘Reframing Social Justice.' Ed Loane is Warden at St Paul's College in Sydney and lectures in Church History part time at Moore Theological College.Berthier Lainirina is Principal of St Patrick's Theological College MadagascarSupport the show--To make a one off contribution to support The Pastor's Heart's ministry go to this link, or to become a regular Patreon supporter click here.

Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.02.01.526708v1?rss=1 Authors: Makarava, N., Mychko, O., Molesworth, K., Chang, J. C.-Y., Henry, R. J., Tsymbalyuk, N., Gerzanich, V., Simard, J. M., Loane, D., Baskakov, I. V. Abstract: The transformation of astrocytes into reactive states constitutes a biological response of the central nervous system under a variety of pathological insults. Astrocytes display diverse homeostatic identities, which are developmentally predetermined and regionally specified. Upon transformation into reactive states associated with neurodegenerative diseases and other neurological disorders, astrocytes acquire diverse reactive phenotypes. However, it is not clear whether their reactive phenotypes are dictated by region-specific homeostatic identity or, alternatively, by the nature of an insult. To address this question, region-specific gene expression profiling was performed for four brain regions (cortex, hippocampus, thalamus and hypothalamus) in mice using a custom Nanostring panel consisting of selected sets of genes that report on astrocyte functions and their reactivity for five conditions: prion disease, traumatic brain injury, brain ischemia, 5XFAD Alzheimer's disease model and normal aging. Upon transformation into reactive states, genes that are associated predominantly with astrocytes were found to preserve region-specific signatures suggesting that they respond to insults in a region-specific manner. A common gene set was found to be involved in astrocyte remodeling across insults and normal aging. Regardless of the nature of an insult or insult-specificity of astrocyte response, strong correlations between the degree of astrocyte reactivity and perturbations in their homeostasis-associated genes were observed within each individual brain region. The insult-specific populations did not separate well from each other and instead partially overlapped, forming continuums of phenotypes. The current study demonstrates that astrocytes acquire their reactive phenotypes according to their region-specific homeostatic identities. Within these region-specified identities, reactive phenotypes show continuums of states, partially overlapping between individual insults. Copy rights belong to original authors. It is a powerful thing to be lovingly & particularly noticed by another person, let alone by Jesus. And in our culture today we all hunger to be seen in this manner. So many people carry a deep sense of unnoticedness from an early age (Reese and Loane 2012, Loc. 2018). Jesus teaches us how to notice others in a way that ministers and reveals the love of God to them in a transformational way. When we read through the Gospels, if we pay special attention, we will see how Jesus moves in community to develop others. In this special Mother's Day message, we look at Jesus' particularizing way with people, specifically in the life of Zacchaeus. We also look at five habits that can help us embody Jesus' particularizing way with people. (Originally uploaded on May 10, 2021)
Jesus is patient with people. This is exhibited throughout the Gospels in his dealings with the disciples - especially Peter. As apprentices of Jesus, we encounter his rhythm of affirmation & confrontation, affection & demand (Reese & Loane, Deep Mentoring 2012, Loc. 2093-2111). This message begins by looking at Jesus' patient way with people, and it ends with three ways we can imitate the patient way of Jesus today. (Originally uploaded on June 13, 2021)

Ficou curioso(a)? Bancada: Thyci Macedo, Débora Loane, Enderson Rafael, Ariane Borges.
Bancada: Thyci Macedo, Débora Loane, Ariane Borges, Makel Anderson.
