BABYLON 5: THE ROAD HOME, which features Emmy-winning composers Lolita Ritmanis, Kristopher Carter, and Michael McCuistion of DYNAMIC MUSIC PARTNERS, has been nominated for Best Music – TV/Media at the 2024 ANNIE AWARDS. Ritmanis, Carter, and McCuistion are the first composers to write music for the series since the original composer, Christopher Franke. The score intricately weaves driving rhythms and powerful motifs that resonate with the essence of the sci-fi narrative. From thrilling action sequences to poignant character moments, the score serves as a vital storyteller, enhancing every scene.. Ritmanis, Carter, and McCuistion have collectively earned a total of twenty-eight EMMY AWARD nominations and now seven ANNIE AWARD nominations as composers for series such as MARVEL'S AVENGERS ASSEMBLE, BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD, JUSTICE LEAGUE, TEEN TITANS, BATMAN BEYOND, THE ZETA PROJECT and THE NEW BATMAN SUPERMAN ADVENTURES. For TALKING SOUNDTRACKS in February 2024, Jason Drury had the pleasure of speaking with Lolita, Michael, and Kristopher via Zoom at their respective studios in California. The Good Brothers seems to do their best work on episodes with big round numbers, and this week's episode is no exception as they welcome back good friend of the show and Batman: The Animated Series veteran director Kevin Altieri to the show to discuss the monumental episode "Bane." Kevin talks about adapting a character so quickly after being introduced to the main comic continuity, how he and series producer overcame initial disdain for the Bane character to make him fit into the DCAU, the Lucha Libre influence the drew from for the show and whether they ever considered adapting the Knightfall story and how he would have executed it in the DCAU. He also tells an incredible tale about Bruce Timm single-handedly storyboarding the final act of the episode in less than 24 hours, meeting with Lolita Ritmanis to discuss music and how much input the directors had on that aspect of the show, and a heart-warming and moving reflection on his relationship with Kevin Conroy over the years. All of this and he offers his own scorecard for the episode and a few other stories along the way for a highly entertaining perspective on this legendary BTAS episode. All of this and a preview of next week's episode await on this all new edition of the DCAU Review! Cal and Liam are once again asking you to listen to a review of The Zeta Project but this time with extra incentive as they review the episode "Shadows" which features a crossover with the future Dark Knight of Batman Beyond. The hosts discuss the choice of how the first 10 minutes of the episode are spent, as well as the lackluster introduction of our special guest stars. The Good Brothers also discuss the difference the AI HD Upscale versions of the show make versus the generally available 480p, low definition versions. Additionally the hosts talk how Batman's appearance may have contributed to additional violence in the episode being permitted, Lolita Ritmanis's Beyond-ified soundtrack and how Kevin Conroy's voice performance in this episode led to a historic set of firsts for the DCAU. All of this and much more await along with a preview of next week's review on this week's episode of the DCAU Review! This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony assess the state of several big name teams who are either flying high or crashing hard almost midway through the season's second full month! Before that, however, the duo begins with a rather somber major headline as they pay tribute to the recently passed former pitcher, Vida Blue. The two recount his outstanding career, exchange some memorable stories and offer their best wishes and condolences for the legendary A's, Giants, and Royals pitcher - may he rest in peace. After an update on recent retirements and injuries (including a new record for the quickest recovery from Tommy John), Tom and Tony touch upon an all time pitching performance out of their alma mater and deep d(r)ive an unfortunate slip up out of the Oakland broadcast booth. Once that's all out of the way, the duo goes team by team to talk some baseball! They cover everything from the late month implosion of the Yankees and Cardinals, to the slower stalling out of the Mets, to two pleasant surprises out of the AL West! This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony get the ball rolling on their coverage of the World Baseball Classic! The rosters for all 20 countries participating were recently announced, so the two spent some time analyzing each one with the tournament just two weeks away! But first, they comb through the most recent batch of trades and signings from across the league! Some of the more noteworthy moves include Zack Greinke's return to Kansas City, the Padres locking up their ace long term, and another pair of team friendly extensions out of the Blue Jays and Astros. From here on out, the focus shifts almost primarily to the rosters of the World Baseball Classic! The duo go through all four pools of the tournament and break down some of the more obvious favorites from each one. These favorites include, but are not limited to, the USA, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Japan, and Venezuela. After leaving off with more room for a more in depth WBC analysis closer to the tournament, Tom and Tony spend the remainder of the episode reviving a segment from last year's offseason: the How F'd Are They Scale! With five categories ranging from Ain't No Stopping Us Now to Everything Is On Fire, the two assess the state of each American League team going into the 2023 season. Get ready for the second half of the scale along with plenty more next time! But until then, get comfortable and enjoy the latest from The Diamond Duo Podcast! Lots of chatter about the Man of Steel as of late may lead you to believe the Good Brothers planned to cover Superman: The Animated Series for the month of November just for that sweet, sweet social media engagement. However, it's all a coincidence as the hosts kick off a month's worth of Superman content with a review of the second chapter of the Bizarro trilogy with the aptly titled episode "Bizarro's World." Hear the hosts discuss a plot the meanders between comedy, tragedy and happenstance that pairs with visuals that struggle to be interesting due to the plot. Cal & Liam also discuss Tim Daly's double-duty as a naïve Bizarro and a kind and compassionate Superman and Lolita Ritmanis' score for the episode that features a few returning character themes. Tom Service explores "tunes for 'toons" - the music that accompanies cartoons from the earliest Mickey Mouse to the sophisticated animations of today. Unlike conventional film soundtracks, cartoon music is often upfront and very much part of the manic action of cartoons. And that distinctive breakneck energy has inspired concert composers such as John Zorn. Tom talks to Daniel Goldmark, author of Tunes for 'Toons, about the music of Hollywood animated cartoons of the 1930s to the 1950s; and to Lolita Ritmanis, LA-based composer for many recent animations including Batman: The Animated Series.
