Opportunities presented by digitalisation and AI go beyond traditional generational shifts; they will require fundamental change in the mindsets of business leaders Shannon Chamber CEO Helen Downes was quick to engage with Skillnet Ireland's new chief executive, Mark Jordan, following his appointment in March 2025, by inviting him to address a luncheon to mark the tenth anniversary of Shannon Chamber Skillnet. The event, which took place in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Limerick last week, attracted a guest list which included Chamber member companies, representatives from Skillnet Ireland, Skillnet Business Networks in the Mid-West region, the tertiary education sector and private training providers. Skillnet Ireland is recognised internationally as a best practice model for workforce development, supporting the competitiveness, productivity, and innovation of Irish businesses. Under the leadership of newly appointed chief executive Mark Jordan, the organisation remains committed to building on its excellent track record of the past 26 years. Since its inception in 1999, Skillnet Ireland, via its 70 Business Networks, which includes Shannon Chamber Skillnet, has continually evolved. This evolution is reflected in the expanding profile of the businesses it supports, the deepening and diversification of its engagement strategies, and the ongoing development of innovative support schemes tailored to the needs of industry. "Our success depends on aligning Skillnet Ireland's work with national strategies, including the National Digital and the National AI Strategies," said Mark Jordan. "To remain relevant, we need to anticipate change and have meaningful conversations with companies to bridge the gap in skills development. This is particularly important as 59% of SMEs and MNCs expect their core skills to undergo a major shift in the next two to three years, and that, by 2027, 50% of today's skills will be obsolete," he added. Focusing on future skill requirements, Mr. Jordan stated: "Digitalisation will play a critical role in helping companies become more resilient nationally and internationally. Technologies such as machine learning and AI will be central in the transformational journey of companies in many sectors, as will sustainable business practices, which have become an integral part of Ireland's enterprise sector". Highlighting regional achievements, he noted: "In the past year alone, 3,000 businesses in counties Clare, Limerick and Tipperary, upskilled 7,000 people through Skillnet Ireland programmes. That level of engagement is impressive, and it's only set to grow." Mr Jordan was joined on the podium by representatives from Atlantic Aviation Group (AAG), Element Six and Engine Lease Finance Corporation (ELFC) for a lively question and answer session moderated by Shannon Chamber Skillnet Network Manager, Alan Kelly. Trevor Rogers, organisation development manager with AAG, Stephen Linnane, general manager, Element Six, and Maria Frost, senior vice president, human resources at ELFC, brought valuable insights into the strategic importance of keeping employees' skills aligned with the evolving needs of industry. During a panel discussion, they shared their views on topics as diverse as: people development during a corporate merger, addressing skills gaps post-apprenticeships, Skillnet Ireland as an operating model, the future of learning and development and the growing relevance of sustainability literacy. They highlighted the benefits of having balanced skills within an organisation and discussed the positive payback, in terms of mindset shift and increased motivation, that can result from introducing a skills-based pay programme, as well as the urgency of prioritising digital literacy across all sectors. Having witnessed, first hand, a clear escalation in the demand for talent development programmes, Shannon Chamber CEO, Helen Downes, said that operating a Skillnet Business Network has enabled the Chamber to help local b...

Liverpool post-punk pioneers The Room are back with 'Nemesis', the potent second single from their latest album 'The Telling', presenting their trademark blend of progressive, alternative pop and sultry post-punk. As with the lead track 'The Teller', the accompanying video was produced by Mark Jordan. A magical sonic adventure for fans of 80s post-punk and folk-horror aesthetics alike.Firm favourites of the late great John Peel, The Room was formed in 1979 in the golden years of northern English post-punk. In 2023, they re-formed after a lengthy hiatus, releasing their critically acclaimed 'Restless Fate' album, their first release in 38 years. Their melodic blend of progressive, alternative pop and sultry post-punk is as fresh and relevant now as when they disbanded in 1985.Formed by singer Dave Jackson and bassist Becky Stringer, they are joined by original drummer Clive Thomas, along with guitarist Darren Brown, keyboardist Ethan Kyme, and the haunting backing vocals of Helena Jacks.
How our attachments to the satisfaction, security, and sense of self that money and status bring us can prevent us from truly trusting and following Jesus.
I certainly want to see Jesus when I get to heaven, but even more than that I must see Jesus Exalted and Glorified, I want to see how the Father Honors His Son who has pleased Him Well!Philippians 2:1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
I Corinthians 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. The actual only sure Hope for this World is in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Lives are changed from misery to greatness by the help of God through His Son Christ Jesus. Sister Jennifer Lewis and Bridget Lewis sing, Jesus, How I Love Calling Your Name.

Embracing the Journey: Shifting from the Pursuit of Perfection to Celebrating Progress Take away: The importance of taking action and making progress, even if it's not perfect. Perfection should not be the enemy of good. Taking imperfect action and continuing to iterate is the key to meaningful personal growth and development. The willingness to be vulnerable and embrace a process-oriented mindset is what allows people to truly transform their lives. Money Learnings: Mark Jordan's parents instilled core money values like hard work and saving. Jordan also had early entrepreneurial experience running a lawn care business as a teenager, which taught him practical lessons about managing clients, getting paid, and dealing with financial setbacks like client bankruptcies. He had more extensive financial education and skills development through his own business ventures and graduate studies, rather than formal training at home or school. Bio: Mark Jordan, founder of Unravel Groups, is a veteran entrepreneur and mentor with a background in investment banking, real estate acquisitions, and financial services. Mark, who holds both a BSBA and an MBA, has authored multiple books, established three companies, and been a part of starting two churches. He leverages his extensive experience in corporate and non-profit sectors to lead men toward transformational growth in their spiritual, relational, and vocational lives through Unravel Groups. Designed to support men from diverse backgrounds, Unravel offers both individual and group programs that emphasize personal development rooted in progress, not perfection. Mark is passionate about exploring the world with his family and has visited six of the seven continents. This zest for life and discovery enhances his mentorship, reinforcing his dedication to the pursuit of excellence and values such as integrity, leadership, and service. Highlights from this episode: The value of an MBA program focused on entrepreneurship in providing problem-solving skills and a framework for navigating personal finances. The distinction between work-life "balance" and work-life "harmony", and why the latter is a more realistic and beneficial approach. The role of vulnerability and having crucial conversations in building meaningful relationships and personal growth. The significance of reading and ongoing self-improvement, and how a supportive group environment can help sustain positive habits. Strategies for making self-development programs accessible, such as scholarships and flexible pricing models. The importance of surrounding oneself with wise and intentional individuals, and the skill of discernment in identifying such mentors. Industry leaders identified particular skills as requirements for all non-IT roles, including data input, analysis, validation, manipulation and visualisation, as well as dig...

Are we shaping young minds or corrupting the youth? Theologian Mark Jordan joins Matt Croasmun for a conversation about the meaning of theological education today. Mark is the R. R. Niebuhr Research Professor at Harvard Divinity School, and is the author of ten books, including Telling Truths in Church: Scandal, Flesh, and Christian Speech. He came on the show to discuss his 2021 book, Transforming Fire: Imagining Christian Teaching—along the way, he reflects on Christian pedagogical principles; the question of the teacher's power and the potential to enact an abusive pedagogy; he looks at the enigmatic, provoking, and sometimes deliberately elusive teaching strategy of Jesus through his parables; the role of desire in learning—and a shared love for the divine between teacher and student; he acknowledges the expansiveness of theological education that occurs outside a classroom setting; and he questions the very purpose of Christian theological education.Mark D. Jordan is the R. R. Niebuhr Professor of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School. He is the author of ten books, including Telling Truths in Church: Scandal, Flesh, and Christian Speech. A Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, he has also received a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Fulbright- Hays Fellowship, and a Luce Fellowship in Theology.Show NotesCheck out Mark Jordan's book Transforming Fire: Imagining Christian Teaching.Louis Agassiz's story of the fish exemplifies a strong pedagogy.Teaching should center on the text itself, not the teacher: “In the space between the text and the student, I need to just step aside as far as possible and put the fish on the table.”The parables of Jesus are themselves a pedagogy. They are “enigmatic, provoking, sometimes deliberately elusive” in order to “stop the hearer in his tracks or her tracks.”The shift of theological education primarily from monastic schools to universities suggests the site of divine revelation is also primarily confined to the university classroom. The shift of theological education to universities also requires theological education to follow the schedule of a university which limits the time some texts require to be read properly. The texts being taught intend to transform students' lives with the lessons they hold.Teachers of Christian theology can invite transformation, but ultimately divine action is beyond teachers' control: “Faith is a divine gift.”Teachers often communicate to their students in bodily and affective ways in addition to the actual words they use: “Bodies learn best from bodies.”Mark Jordan's thoughts on teaching are especially true of theological education, but they can be true of other subjects as well.“Education depends on desire.” That is, it depends on the student and teacher's shared love for the divine, for other people, and for the world.Using the model of Jesus, who gently corrected his students' misguided expectations of him, teachers can also gently correct a student who “is beginning to mistake [the teacher] for the actual point of the course.”Theological education can and is taking place everywhere, not just in the classroom setting.“The question is not, will there will be a future of theology? It's where will there be a future of theology?”In many universities and seminaries, the time and expense of formal theological education prevent potential students from undergoing academic training. How can we reimagine theological education to allow for greater accessibility, even to those not interested in professional formation as a church leader?Production NotesThis podcast featured Mark Jordan and Matt CroasmunEdited and Produced by Evan RosaHosted by Evan RosaProduction Assistance by Alexa Rollow, Macie Bridge, and Tim BergelandA Production of the Yale Center for Faith & Culture at Yale Divinity School https://faith.yale.edu/aboutSupport For the Life of the World podcast by giving to the Yale Center for Faith & Culture: https://faith.yale.edu/give

Unravel is for any man on any journey. Unravel was started by a group of Christian men who want more from themselves and each other. They wanted to create a space to explore how to be a better man, where they could grow as Christians, friends, workers, husbands, and fathers. The process flows from the Bible and draws from a number of Christian and secular teachers, scholars, and leaders. That said, the principles are universal. Through each Unravel experience, participants strive to articulate their unique, personal vision and a practical framework for moving that vision forward. https://www.unravelgroups.com/ --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/michael-chestnut5/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/michael-chestnut5/support

In this episode of OP Talks, doctoral candidate César "CJ" Baldelomar talks to his teacher and mentor Dr. Mark Jordan, whose work focuses on Christian theology, European philosophy, and gender studies. The wide-ranging conversation touches on Dr. Jordan's teaching practice, on what led him to theology, and on his devotion to the act of private writing, which he believes helps him understand God. Whether or not the work ever gets published, Dr. Jordan feels compelled to write “for protest and assertion, for pleasure and politics, but especially for self discernment,” because “I don't know what I think or what I feel or what I hope until I can write some way into it.” His most sustained writing comprises hundreds of thousands of words in a journal he has kept since he was 16, one that “has taken all kinds of forms that I never expect to see published.” The criterion of originality--in the humanities, at least-- is “highly overrated," Dr. Jordan tells Baldelomar. "At a most basic level, most of what we say is repetition. Language is all about repetition. Very occasionally, one of us can come up with a phrasing that is absolutely new or invent a word or something like that for good or for ill [but] a lot of theological words have done a lot of damage...The question is how artfully we do the collage." When it comes to theology education, Baldelomar asks his mentor, what does he see as the power of fragmentation? "Teaching in fragments is the condition of theology," explains Dr. Jordan. "Because of our ignorance and the limits of our language, we're incapable of giving a complete coherent exhaustive account of divinity, even of what divinity is doing in our individual lives. So one way to keep reminding ourselves of that is to write in fragments, because to write in clean connected systematic text, numbered propositions....encourages the illusion that you have a system. And the one thing you can be sure of in theology is [that] you don't have a system or, if you have a system, it's not theology."
The Innovation Exchange, a programme that accelerates digital transformation for large multinational businesses (MNCs) by connecting them with indigenous Irish SMEs, is calling on innovative technology scale-ups to join the programme and collaborate with MNCs to help address their challenges. Created by Furthr (formerly Dublin BIC) in partnership with Skillnet Ireland, the programme has announced additional funding to meet higher-than-expected demand. The new funding comes following a successful initial phase which enabled collaboration between 200 SMEs with some of Ireland's leading corporations including Musgrave, Heineken, Ryanair, Glanbia, ESB and AXA. At ‘Innovating for the Future', an event held today to report its first six-month performance, The Innovation Exchange announced that it is to open its doors to an additional 100 digital transformation solutions providers to meet increasing demand from industry. Discussing the programmes expansion at today's event, Minister of State for Skills and Further Education, Niall Collins T.D. said: “I'm delighted to see The Innovation Exchange open its doors to a further 100 SMEs in 2022. With over 25 innovation challenges being published by some of Ireland's leading multinationals this year alone, it offers ambitious tech SMEs great opportunities for growth.” Conor Carmody, Programme Director, The Innovation Exchange, said: “The Innovation Exchange has had a strong start and the calibre of both corporates and SMEs participating has been very high. We are delighted to open applications for new technology SMEs to join the programme. We're not only looking for tried and tested digital transformation solutions, but also for the ability to collaborate with large businesses who want to put their stamp on the end solution. If you're a growing, solutions-focused SME then we would urge you to join The Innovation Exchange at a time when there are so many corporate challenges on the table.” Mark Jordan, Chief Strategy Officer, Skillnet Ireland, said: “The Innovation Exchange has made great strides in its first six months, supporting the success of both large multinationals and indigenous SMEs. We are pleased to announce today's expansion of the programme. The potential benefits to scaling companies extend way beyond signing a contract. By building the right capabilities, these firms are accessing a qualified sales pipeline and getting face time with prospective customers. I strongly encourage indigenous SMEs to consider the programme for a great opportunity to collaborate with leading multinational corporations.” Launched in February 2022, The Innovation Exchange has had a number of successful outcomes to date, including 20 SMEs that have moved to a deeper engagement with a corporate partner, with one company announcing that it has signed a paid pilot. Several other SMEs are in proof-of-concept discussions with a view to establishing a longer-term collaboration. More than 30 innovation challenges are expected to be published by large corporates for participating SMEs in 2022. The paid pilot involves Exertis, an IT services company of DCC, and The Éclair Group (now Digital Workforce), a technology scale-up that is developing innovative solutions in robotics process automation. Exertis published an innovation challenge via The Innovation Exchange in May and The Eclair Group responded proposing a solution. Following a pitch and a proof-of-concept phase, a deal was agreed to enter a paid pilot. The Innovation Exchange offers participants a range of benefits including: A qualified sales pipeline and getting face time with prospective customers. — Opportunity to pitch your solution to prospective customers. — Gaining insights into markets and companies which helps SMEs pitch their solution more successfully. — Tailor-made training designed to improve performance of SME members when selling to large corporates. — One-to-one mentoring to companies around preparing proposals, pitching to corporates...
IDA Ireland and Skillnet Ireland have today announced a new collaboration between IDA Ireland's Disruptive Technologies Partnering Portal (DTTP) and The Innovation Exchange from Skillnet Ireland. The partnership has an objective to accelerate world-class partnerships between multinationals and Irish SMEs in digital, disruptive, and sustainable technology solutions that can drive enterprise competitiveness, growth, and transformation. The Innovation Exchange – DTPP collaboration provides a new business-2-business engagement framework. This framework enables multinationals to raise business challenges and needs aligned to business objectives and provides a platform for Irish SMEs to present their innovative technology-based solutions to address such. The engagement framework is enabled by the DTPP, an online searchable platform developed by IDA and Enterprise Ireland that profiles enterprise capacity and needs in digital, disruptive, and sustainable technologies, enabling companies to directly connect for partnership opportunities. In addition to the DTPP, the engagement framework will include The Innovation Exchange programme, where multinationals will voice their challenges and needs and provide an opportunity for Irish SMEs to present solutions to accelerate innovation within both the large and smaller firms. Under this framework Irish SMEs can avail of mentoring, training and other supports to build the necessary skills to position these solutions to multinationals. Skillnet Ireland will invest €5 million in The Innovation Exchange over the next 5 years to support more than 1000 businesses, while IDA will continue to offer free access to the DTPP for companies and access to a variety of supports to enable business transformation. This collaboration between Skillnet Ireland and IDA Ireland is a fantastic opportunity for Irish SMEs and multinational enterprises to work together in partnership to drive digitalisations and collaborative opportunities, utilising the best of the Irish innovative infrastructure. IDA Ireland's Michael Lohan, Head of Life Sciences and Talent Transformation & Innovation, commented: “This is a great example of the way the infrastructure works together for the benefit of enterprise. I welcome our on-going and close working partnership with Skillnet Ireland. A key objective for IDA Ireland is to engage SMEs and multinational companies for the benefit of enterprise and the economy. Irish companies are innovative and smart and are supporting our multinational community to thrive and innovate in Ireland. This is a very exciting initiative and adds huge value to the DTPP.' Skillnet Ireland's Mark Jordan, Chief Strategic Officer, said: “Our focus at Skillnet Ireland is on driving business success and enabling innovation within both multinationals and SMEs. The Innovation Exchange has been very powerful in doing exactly that, by connecting large firms seeking business solutions with SMEs that can provide them. We welcome this collaboration with IDA Ireland which will add greatly to driving innovation across a wide range of areas including digitalisation, climate and advanced manufacturing.” To find out more about The Innovation Exchange and to apply online, visit/. On this episode of WTF California, we talk with Antioch resident Mark Jordan who has successfully sued the city of Antioch multiple times and has won. We get into how he got involved in watching the city, the hiring of the city manager, the unqualified interim city manager. We talk real estate and Section 8 in real life scenarios including impacts of rent control--Mark also points how Councilmembers Monica Wilson and Tamisha Torres-Walker have provided no plan, just a couple press conferences. We talk redistricting and the fiasco that has gone on and what it might take to change it--which includes a councilmember stepping up. He highlights the impact on Antioch Police services and withholding items requested. In terms of community pride, Jordan questions if community pride can ever recover and we discuss if the council has tried to actually unite or divide--meanwhile, Jordan drops a history lesson on Antioch and how the history narrative by Mayor Lamar Thorpe is wrong.
What do we ask our students to risk when we refuse the pretentions of expertise? What if the uncanny things which occur in our classrooms are the refiner's fire changing us, student and teacher alike? If we would allow ourselves the joy of astonishment, would we teach with more depth? What are the new habitations for theology which will be lifegiving, life-affirming and meant for human thriving?
Hello friends, this is a very special epsiode of True Criminals where we cover the court case of Laura Maczka, now Laura Jordan, and her husband Mark. We are joined by friends of the show and former guests Blinky and special counsel Yoshi (Brent Hibbard) from the Let's Talk About Stuff podcast. There's sex, drugs, and if you count our outro music, rock-n-roll. I would say there are lessons to be learned from this episode, and friendships earned along the way, but mostly it's a wild grab bag of tricks and treats and maybe doesn't make sense as a "very special episode".
