I've been frustrated with myself as I've been feeling like I'm not able to break through and lead a client of mine but through this frustration, I've found some of my greatest strengths. I want to walk you through that process so you can discover and develop your strengths and those of your team. Start by taking something like StrengthsFinder and action those results to see how much more successful you can be if you start intentionally developing your top skills. I'm currently listening to books about how to be better at influencing even though I'm already really good at it! And it doesn't stop with you! You can apply this to your team too. All too often as leaders, we have performance reviews where we're looking for the things our team needs to improve. What if we flipped the script and took the things our employees are already good at and helped them become even better? Then take what they're not so good at and see if somebody else would be a better fit. The more we can align people's jobs with what they are good at, the better off everybody is going to be!What you'll hear in this episode:[0:30] I have a problem that's keeping me up at night that led to an epiphany about focusing on and developing my strengths[4:30] Why I decided I need to work on skills that I'm already good at[8:00] How I figure out what my strengths are[13:00] Find your own strengths and intentionally develop those skills[14:00] Find the strengths of your team members and help develop those skillsListen to Similar Episodes:16. Chad initially started his career in the Las Vegas entertainment industry, working with David Cassidy, Tommy Tune, Michael Crawford, and Rick Springfield in the evenings. After his daughter was born, he transitioned into becoming a real estate agent in Las Vegas so he did not have to work late hours, and then got started on a team. He closed 75 transactions in his first year as a buyers agent, becoming Rookie of the Year. After he became team leader, he moved to Bellingham and continued driving forward in his successful career as a team leader and coach. Later he worked as the Area Director for the Southeast Region and grew that to over 10,000 agents. Now he is focused on coaching and hosts podcasts. What helped Chad be so successful? Confidence, the heart of a salesperson, and the great education at Keller Williams. Joining the team was key to his tremendous success. To get to the next level of performance, he found gaps that needed to be closed. Paperwork is not his strength, so joining the team helped him find resources to take on that aspect. The other gap was closing. Too many people learn scripts to show a house, but they don't learn scripts to sell a house. We need to get our mindset and scripts right, to learn how to close. Why wait for the other person to close themselves? We need to work to get them to close, to move them along in the process. When joining a team, agents need to understand that they are getting sales leads they might not otherwise ever see. The team leader needs to be clear on how agents can join and what they can expect, and help the agents grow and succeed in business. On the first episode of this new season, we have an incredible guest. I sit down with John Coyle, an Olympic medalist, sought after speaker, design thinking expert, and a best-selling author. But John’s success has been far from a liner path. After failing to qualify for the 1992 U.S. Olympic Speedskating Team, he decided to quit, abandon what was considered best practice at the time, and instead he trained by himself in a completely different way. Instead of working to better manage his weaknesses, he focused on maximizing his strengths. This approach led to John a Silver Medal in the 1994 Olympic Games, a U.S. record and an unofficial world record. But that is only the beginning of John’s story as we talk about his later work with Lance Armstrong and former Enron CEO Jeff Skilling - and then we get into his unique ideas and insight around leadership and innovation - including the realization that I spent far too much time focusing on what team needed to do better, instead of putting them in positions to maximize their strengths.Learn more about John here.If you have an opinion on these topics, please feel free to email us through the contact page. The best ideas often stem from the intersection of different points of view. You can follow the podcast and host Chuck Swoboda on Twitter for further exploration and discussion on innovation.
Welcome to episode 40 of Your Encore Life. Today we will be expanding on the introduction to strengths that I began in our last episode. We will define what strengths are, talk about the five characteristics of strengths, and talk about an article by Brent O’ Bannon about managing your weaknesses. I am pulling some of this information from the book “Soar With Your Strengths” by the father of the Cliftonstrengths assessment and author of several strengths based books Donald O. Clifton, and Paula Nelson. The book states that the definition of strengths is based on two different levels. “On a rudimentary level, strengths are the things you do well.” Things such as goaltending in soccer, marketing, selling, developing others, speaking…you get the idea. A more sophisticated definition is on another level and includes things like “patterns of behavior, thoughts, and feelings that produce high degree of satisfaction and pride; generates both psychic and/or financial reward; and presents measurable progress toward excellence.” In other words, physical forms of strength, and the second type that have more to do with “ego, persistence, dedication, courage, pride, perfection, and competition.” The book lists five characteristics of a strength and how best to develop them. Here we go: Listen for Yearnings: What have you seen or heard that makes you think “I want to do that”? What makes your heart flutter or sing? This cannot be confused with what they term as “misyearnings”, which can be driven by a desire for power, glamour, and excitement and can derail us from our true strengths path. Watch for Satisfactions: “Satisfactions are those experiences where the emotional and psychic rewards are great”. You really enjoy doing them. Watch for Rapid Learning: If you are learning something best by jumping in and you feel like you have always known how to do something. Slow and laborious learning is a sign that this may not be an area of strength. Glimpses of Excellence: Often evident in a finite activity or performance, which isn’t necessarily impressive but a trained eye or you sense a moment where you shine brightly. Total Performance of Excellence: Total performance excellence is defined in the book as not being “a glimpse, but the complete extension of an activity. It doesn’t happen occasionally, but each time the activity is performed. It is not subject to circumstances but transcends them. To become exceptional: Pick a strength and pursue it. Claim it out of fantasy and into action. Do more of it Enjoy it Let’s talk briefly about minimizing our weaknesses. I have referenced an article by Gallup Coach Brent O’Bannon titled “To Manage Your Weaknesses, Plug Your Leaks”. He states that “a major weakness is when you are not good at an activity, don’t feel passion for that activity, though it’s important to your career success”. A “minor weakness is sometimes called a learned behavior that we are average to good at, while not enjoying or feeling passion for this activity, which is not a major part of our job or career success”. This article uses the acronym LEAK to identify your weaknesses and PLUG to minimize the weakness, hence the name of the article “Plug the Leak”. Here are the acronym meanings: L: Loath - What activity do you absolutely hate to do? E: Escape - What activity do you avoid at all costs? A: Average - What activity is a weakness that no matter how much you try, you are only average at it? K: Kink - What activity no matter how much you improve leaves a kink in your stomach when doing it? P: Plan - consciously use one or more of your strengths to boost your weakness. L: Leave - Decrease or eliminate if possible the need to perform that activity. U: Unite - Find someone to perform that activity that is a weakness in your place. G: Grow - If you have to continue this activity, find a way to improve such as training in the basics, then let it go. Again I have included links to the articles and book mentioned in this episode as well as a link to access the CliftonStrengths assessment. We will continue our discussion about strengths and more about the CliftonStrengths assessment on our next episode. In the mean time, remember David writes in Psalm 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. You were given your strengths for a reason. Focus on them and be grateful for them. Don’t beat you head against a wall focusing on your weaknesses, but rather learn to manage and minimize them. When you share vulnerability, there is a purpose of connecting and a solution-oriented talk rather than just complaining and feeling bad about yourself. The power of getting curious about other people instead of judging them to have a better understanding of where they're coming from. Why you have the potential to become great by being the best version of yourself. Power Quotes From The Show "Before I realized what my strengths were, I was always wondering what was wrong me and I was so good at emotionally beating myself up. I was going through a divorce when I found the book, Strengths Finder, which included a psychometric test. That book helped me to see that I did have potential and taught me how to use my strengths to unleash it. Knowing you're great is one thing, but then understanding how to leverage your strengths and apply them to your life is a whole other thing." - Alissa Daire Nelson "We have such a large capacity with this soul, body, and mind connection. I firmly believe that none of us are here as an accident. However, I don't believe that everything happens for a reason. God, a divine power, or whatever you believe in didn't have time to make junk. So, that means that there is something redeeming and amazing about you. I believe part of our journey is to figure out what that thing is and how we get to contribute to our world." - Alissa Daire Nelson "No matter how horrific or wonderful a situation is, you can use that for the betterment of your own life and the lives of other people. Great things can come from every situation, but you have to choose it. You may become the victim of a situation; however, you don't have to remain a victim for the rest of your life. A bad situation wasn't your fault, but it's your responsibility to move forward." - Alissa Daire Nelson "When you're ready to learn the lesson, the teacher will appear. So, you have to be ready for that lesson and be able to face it. Even if you're sort of feeling like a coward because you're so afraid, that can be what moves you forward along this journey to do something magnificent and different. You can start off easy; learning the lesson isn't a race. It's not about the end goal, but about the journey and what you experience from it." - Alissa Daire Nelson "Everybody is capable of greatness, but who's willing to do the work to get there? Greatness is there for the taking for every single one of us. Instead of trying to do something else, why don't you do something that you're great at? We have the potential to become better versions of ourselves every single day. We have to give up this idea that we have to be like this other person and just be ourselves instead." - Alissa Daire Nelson Links From Today's Show Alissa Daire Nelson Twitter Facebook LinkedIn YouTube Daire Success Coaching Facebook Frickin' Awesome Entrepreneur Podcast Episode 004: Dealing with Mom Guilt While Running a Business Maximize Your Strengths Podcast Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg Brené Brown Alison Armstrong Joseph Campbell WFR 129 Gretchen Rubin WFR 118 Mike Bundrant WFR 086 Mark Divine WFR 071 Melissa Hartwig WFR 048 Nir Eyal About Alissa Daire Nelson Alissa Daire Nelson is a dynamic and inspiring speaker, success coach, and podcast host of the StrengthsFinder-based podcast, Maximize Your Strengths. My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a lady who you might mistake for Superwoman and if you do, you won't be alone. But more than anything else she's an exceedingly proud wife and mother of two, who loves helping others discover how to make their businesses and relationships thrive in harmony. But this was as far from her starting point as you can possibly imagine. Graduating from St Catherine University with a post baccalaureate certificate in Nursing, she entered into the medical profession as a Clinical Dietitian and Registered Nurse before a four year stint as a beauty consultant for Mary Kay So from my viewpoint, she has always had a nurturing side to her character, wanting people to look and feel as good as they can right from the outset. And so you can see that where she is now, is as far away as she could be, but also very similar in concept, she has found a way to maximise her strengths, provide more value to the world and enjoy herself in the process. As she says “While I've always been interested in self-development, in the last 9 years, I dove into investment in my training, self-improvement, and coaching. In addition to classroom style learning, I've gained valuable knowledge from seminars, home-coaching programs, group-coaching programs, one-on-one coaching relationships, books, self-study, and real-life successes and failures. My clients benefit from all of that education and experience wrapped into one business coach!” So people you find what you want to do naturally, your unique strength, up-skill yourself and then solve the problems of others in that area. Seems simple doesn't it? So if this is the blueprint for success, why do so many people struggle with finding their way through the pain and scarcity to make a success of their lives? Why masterminds are so uber powerful and an extremely cost effective way to keep you on track and focused on the right results. and lastly…. Why stability in ones life is so familiar and comfortable, and why all entrepreneurs have moments of thinking “Wouldn't it be easier just to get a job?”

Today our expert guest is… Super Woman? No, it's Alissa Daire-Nelson! But it's an easy mistake to make - and she believes that you have superpowers too. Alissa is an accomplished Success Coach, Speaker, host of the Maximize Your Strengths podcast, and the author of the new book From Frustrated to Frickin' Awesome: 4 Steps to Achieve the Success You're Wired For. Above all, Alissa is an exceedingly proud wife and mother of two who loves helping others discover how to make their relationships and businesses thrive in harmony. StrengthsFinder Alissa's journey began when she discovered StrengthsFinder, a psychometric tool that Dr. Donald Clifton created through 40 years of research. He comes from the field of positive psychology and, basically, thought people could live happier lives if they focused on what was right with them, as opposed to what was “wrong” with them. The assessment is a tool for identifying your innate talents, but it is only a tool - it won't have a significant impact on your life unless you know how to use it. These talents don't become your strengths until you are using them in a way that gives you energy and serves other people. Learning how to use the tool by yourself can be difficult, though... and hiring a coach can be prohibitively expensive. That's why Alissa started the Maximize Your Strengths podcast: she wanted to provide a resource that helps people more easily use this new tool. You're awesome, I'm awesome, and we can be even more awesome together. As StrengthsFinder users gain more insight about themselves, they're also better able to relate to others. Alissa really wants to help people understand that you shining bright doesn't diminish anyone else's light. “You shining bright does not have to detract from anyone else shining bright” There's a common fallacy that we should strive to be well-rounded individuals, but we can't be good at everything - it's just not possible. When we let go of that idea, we can work together to maximize everyone's brightness. From Frustrated to Frickin' Awesome: 4 Steps to Achieve the Success You're Wired For “When you feel good about you, you're able to provide more honor and grace to those around you.” The 4 Steps: Know thyself. Understand where you thrive, where you don't, and internalize how awesome you are. Create a plan. Now that you know yourself, create a plan around that. Carry out that plan. Reflect on what worked, what didn't work, and what you learned about yourself. Rinse and repeat. If you continually repeat those four steps you will continue to improve, and the best part is that you'll never be done learning about yourself. The Biggest Helping: Today's Most Important Takeaway “You are unique, and you're uniquely awesome - that in and of itself should make you stand taller and live brighter. Spend some time figuring out what those things are because you're worth it, and you didn't end up on this planet by accident.” Daily Helping listeners can get From Frustrated to Frickin' Awesome for FREE right here. -- Thank you for joining us on The Daily Helping with Dr. Shuster. I'm back from podcast movement, and I had a blast. I also have insights from one of the hardest assignments I've done in a long time. My Impression of Podcast Movement 2017 Nothing cooler than being picked up at that airport by fellow podcasters Marcus Couch from WordPress Plugins A to Z. We haven't seen each other face to face in about 10 years. We cranked some cool metal on the way to the Marriot and it was like old times. Then I get the then Marriot and I get to meet my co-host Jim Collison from the Average Guy network, and I go over to his table and there sits the one and only Steve Stewart and Mike Dell. So for me, the Summar Camp aspect of Podcast Movement is in full effect. The coolest line I heard all week was relayed by Paul Colligan (another person' I've known for 10+ years) and it came from a Dan Klass session. Dan (who is a former comedian) shared how often at comedy clubs you will have multiple comedians perform in an evening - and yet they all use the same microphone. The point? It's not about the tech. I roomed with Erik K Johnson from podcasttalentcoach.com, and he had stated that it would be awesome if he could meet a web developer who needed help with his podcast, as he was a podcast consultant who needed help with his website. I get into the elevator, introduce myself to everyone in the elevator and it turns out that one of the people is a web designer thinking of starting a podcast. When we get out of the elevator, on of the first people who see is Erik. I felt like I was in a Christmas movie and it was going to start to snow. I saw Harry Durran from Podcast Junkies and Dr. Ryan Gray who has given up his practice to do podcasting full time and Harry introduces me to Natalie Jennings who happens to be taking head shots at a reasonable price. She shows me a few samples of people, and I'm hooked. I can't wait to see how they turn out. The few peaks I saw of what she did was amazing. See her at http://www.nataliechampajennings.com/ I found out in Paul Colligan's session that if you are in Google Play Music, you are also on the Google Home portable audio speaker. I also know of a cool double secret project that is going to make recording double-enders via a browser very cool. I was on a panel with Ray Ortega, Daniel J. Lewis, and Addy Saucedo on what is inside an RSS. This was an insanely nerdy topic, but due to the recent Apple announcements we had some interested parties and I thought we pulled it off well. The bonus is I got to hang out with some cool friends. The Coolest Thing I Saw At Podcast Movement 2017 While there were tons of great sessions at PM17, as a vendor (I work for Libsyn.com - use the coupon code sopfree to get a free month) I don't get to attend any sessions. I did see something that was way cool. I met Alissa Daire of the Maximize Your Strengths show. I see her the first night, and she is in a group of people and we get talking about Strengths Finder, and she becomes a ping pong ball bouncing off the ceiling with energy. She's super nice, and it was great to catch up with her as I had met her last year. The next night, I'm standing at the Luau event, and here she comes. She explains how "I'm done." She's tired (as many people are), and she is considerably less energetic. Pat Flynn walks over, he's very witty and a super nice guy. Then the subject changes to strengths finder results, and it was like watching a time release video of a flower blooming. Her energy came back, her smile came back, her body language completely changed. It was amazing to watch. I saw this a few more times. It's late, and people have had a few adult beverages, then I ask them about their show, and BOOM, the body language picks up, the eyes are open a bit wider, the voice is a little louder. Later, Paris from Gamertag Radio got star struck when Cara Santa Maria from the Skeptics Guide to the Universe walks by. I offered to go bring her over. He got shy, so I did my best Steve Austin (the six million dollar man, not the wrestler) imitation across the showroom floor. I had no idea she was an Emmy Award winning journalist. I bring her over and embarrass Paris. Danny Peña is there, Jim Collison is there, and the minute Paris explained that he really did listen to her show the body language changed. For me, I think of it as being in your "first impression" mode and then finding out that you're among family. For the Best Content - Put a Time Frame On it I spoke about how I got lucky to be able to induct Dan Klass from the Bitterest Pill into the Academy of Podcasters Hall of Fame. The presentation should last three minutes. I had hoped that three minutes would be longer than I thought. I wrote out my first draft. It had some bits about history and podcasting in 2005. It had examples of how the show made me feel. I made a joke about how the more I talk about his show, the more I sound like a stalker. I listed his accomplishments. I started the stopwatch and went into the presentation, about half what through I glanced at my phone and I was already at 5 and a half minutes. Oh boy...... What Was the Purpose of This Presentation? I had to go back and ask myself, what was the purpose of this presentation? The purpose was for the person sitting in row 7 who had been podcasting since 2015 and had no idea who Dan Klass was. It wasn't about me. It wasn't about being funny. I was about answering the question, "Why is Dan Klass in the Academy of Podcasters Hall of Fame." For me, this was a big opportunity, on a big stage, and I didn't want to mess it up for myself, or Dan. It was time to edit. Anything about me went out the door. The history lesson of iriver portable players and synchronization cables went up in smoke. Most of the stories I had about Dan might not go over if you didn't listen to his show. Only the things that HAD to be said would stay. I listed his accomplishments. I thought of the funniest thing I had heard on his show (he referred to his two-year-old daughter as Princess Tirade for quite some time), and the most memorable episode (of ALL podcasting) is episode 102 Mass Murder where he talks about what it's like when your Uncle is murdered, and you're walking past TV cameras escorting your mother to the funeral. It's at the end, I highly suggest you listen to it. I had pointed out that Dan was one of the first to try premium podcasting (this was YEARS before Patreon) and it didn't work well. That was negative, so I just pointed out that he was a pioneer and not afraid to try new things. I HAD TO POINT OUT, that Dan had been sharing stories a DECADE before Serial was on the scene. Dan was creating engaging stories in a box in his garage, and he did it without a team of 19 people. That had to stay. To make it entertaining, I thought of throwing in some old Baptist preacher tricks of getting people to repeat words. This came to me in the shower. It would make me stand out, but I was deeply worried about being too entertaining (again, this was all about Dan). Looking back, that was a dumb thought (you're not going to outshine Dan Klass). Just Because There Are No Time Limits in Podcasting Doesn't Mean There Shouldn't Be To fine tune my presentation I had to: Identify my audience Identify the purpose Make it entertaining I know some of us want to record it and publish it. I truly, always believe a podcast can benefit from editing. This is especially true if you are doing interviews. Because of My Podcast Devin Caroll Devin from the Big Picture Retirement podcast shares how he didn't' want to start a podcast but sure is glad he did. He just released episode 34, and his co-host has already billed $10,000, and Devin has billed $6,000 and has a client who will bring in $20,000. I bet you might think, they have a huge audience, right? Nope, according to Devin, they are averaging 534 downloads an episode. After being a Registered Dietitian for 8 years, Alissa Daire Nelson decided to pursue her nursing degree. But after becoming an RN, she drastically shifted course. Now, a Certified Strengths Strategy Coach, Alissa helps entrepreneurs and small business owners catapult their businesses to the next level without sacrificing their sanity, integrity, or personal lives. She's an accomplished Success Coach, Speaker, host of the Maximize Your Strengths podcast, as well as published Author of a hot new book. She's also able to focus on what's most important in life – being a proud wife and mother of two, who loves helping others discover how to make their businesses and relationships thrive in harmony! Key Insights & Aha Moments * Believe it or not, fear was the primary motivator on Alissa Daire Nelson starting her business * Everything doesn’t happen for a reason, but good can come out of the bad. Something positive can come from any negative situation. * Alissa is always searching for connection and externally processes the things that happen around her. * During her time in health care, she wasn’t great at self-care. Between kids, learning how to be a single-mom and life, it was overwhelming. * Emotional health, though, was always at the forefront and she sought out counseling. * Counseling or coaching doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you have a handle on the importance of working through things in life with support. * Her first entrepreneurial journey failed because she didn’t have the items she needed to succeed. She lacked confidence in herself, but she didn’t give up! * Started working on educating herself on how to be a business owner through books, conferences, webinars, etc. * Than she hired coaches and joined coaching programs, went through the steps and knew the entrepreneurial road was her calling * She won’t take on clients for long-term because she doesn’t want it to be such a comfortable relationship that they’re just getting together for coffee. * There needs to be a constant push for growth. * It’s not a bad thing to have multiple coaches to help you work through different things in your business * She works with her clients a lot on strengths and doesn’t work within any specific industry * Doing her own strength finder was so impactful and life-changing for her, so that is what really changed her course when she was building her coaching practice * Coaching is all about dragging their best self out of them * Her new book is a little bit of self-development and a little bit of productivity blended to keep growing! * The book is intended to be reread to keep growing in 3-month periods! * Get the First Two Chapters Here NOW for FREE, Mavens! Welcome! Today we’re talking to Alyssa Daire Nelson about maximizing your strengths. The introduction to this episode was in last week’s Episode 10. Please listen if you haven’t! Alyssa is a personal strengths coach and the owner of Daire Success Coaching. She helps businesses and solo entrepreneurs maximize their innate strengths. Her greatest joy is seeing breakthroughs occur when people maximize their strengths instead of fixing their weaknesses. I met Alyssa at a podcast conference, where we were both learning about all aspects of our new journeys into podcasting. I was on her show recently and took her strengths test. She’s here today to talk about her work and to analyze the results of my test. What you’ll hear in this episode: Alyssa shares her “Aha” moment in her early 30’s. The Strengthsfinder Profile test is the product of 40 years of research. The profile test has 180 questions, mostly based on “Would you prefer _____ or ______? It takes about 30 minutes to complete. The profile test helps you identify triggers about others that may “drive you crazy.” Why people are not meant to be well-rounded! We lean into our top 10-15 strengths ALL the time. Each strength has a need, and when the needs aren’t honored, we experience frustration. Alan’s top strengths are positivity, maximize, learner, individualization, and achiever. Alyssa explains each strength and the danger in its overuse. “Two-thirds of our weaknesses are just strengths misapplied.” In maximizing our strengths, we take care of many of our weaknesses. Welcome to this Tailgate Talk episode! There is no guest today; it’s just you and me, and we’re talking all about YOU! We’ll focus on your relationships with others and maximizing your strengths in this two-part episode. Next week, we’ll be joined by Alyssa Dare Nelson, a strengths coach and host of the Maximize Your Strengths podcast. Visit www.strengthsfinder.com to find out how to take the online assessment test to identify YOUR strengths. What you’ll hear in this episode: The analogy of “the toolbox,” birthed from my own experience working in my little corner of my dad’s workshop, with child-sized tools and scraps of wood How each of us is given an individual “toolbox” in life, but many people don’t know what tools they have or how to use them The mark of a successful person is someone who KNOWS what’s in their toolbox and how to use it. The problem with school environments is that often we are put in places with no tools, with tools we don’t understand, or with tools we don’t know how to use. “Knowledge without action is useless.” Success means taking your toolbox knowledge of strengths and applying it for maximum result in all areas of life. We have to learn to apply strengths without OVERUSING them. (That’s our main focus for next week’s show!) The more SELF-AWARE that we are, the better we become at developing relationships with others. I’ll explain the self-awareness tool called the Johari Window—developed in 1955, using four “panes” to identify areas of strength and weakness. On last week’s show, I asked for listener feedback about the future direction of the show and what you’d like to hear. I still want to hear from you, so let me know your thoughts. Thanks for listening!

About the book: Introverts are powerful observers and creators. If you are an introvert, this book will show you how to tap into your inherent introvert strengths and “awaken” your potential using mindfulness meditations and cognitive behavioral techniques. In a world that favors the outgoing, gregarious extrovert, being an introvert can be difficult. But the truth is that introverts have distinct advantages—as long as they know how to use them. Unlike extroverts, who draw their energy from social interaction, your energy comes from quiet reflection. Is it any wonder then, that mindfulness can help you hone your natural talents? In The Awakened Introvert, mindfulness expert and card-carrying introvert Arnie Kozak provides a comprehensive set of mindfulness and cognitive behavioral tools to help you maximize your introvert strengths (such as rich access to your interior) while minimizing your introvert weaknesses (such as a tendency toward worry and rumination). In the book, you’ll learn powerful strategies to help you monitor your energy; recharge after social interactions; improve social and communication skills; and take advantage of your capacity for quiet reflection, and sweet, sweet solitude. If you’re looking to unlock the full potential of your unique introvert brain, this book provides a fun, practical, and authentic “user’s manual.” About the author: Long before mindfulness was fashionable, Arnie Kozak, was studying, practicing, and teaching mindfulness and Buddhist psychology. Beginning with a journey to India in the 80′s, Arnie began his lifelong practice in mindfulness meditation. Intent on finding a way to bring the practical healing attributes of mindfulness he began incorporating these techniques in his private practice. In 2002 Dr. Kozak created Exquisite Mind in Burlington, Vermont as a vehicle that could expand the value of mindfulness to larger audiences including professionals and corporations, health care providers, public groups and, most recently with Exquisite Mind Golf, amateur and professional golfers. His first book, Wild Chickens and Petty Tyrants: 108 Metaphors for Mindfulness (Wisdom Publications, 2009) is a thoughtful, funny, and inspiring translation of mindfulness practice through the inventive use of metaphor applicable to our daily lives. It has been translated into three languages. His second book, The Everything Buddhism Book, is an accessible introduction to the Buddha’s wisdom and the Buddhist traditions. The Everything Guide to the Introvert Edge and Mindfulness A-Z: 108 Insights for Awakening Now are forthcoming books. Arnie’s ability to translate ancient healing traditions into pragmatic applications suitable for modern lifestyles through the use of metaphors have made him a contributing voice in the Mindfulness Revolution.
