Federal Tech Podcast: Listen and learn how successful companies get federal contracts
When the history of Covid and federal information technology is written, historians will talk about the amazing ability to transition to remote workers. As in all history, when time separates incidents, one gets a more nuanced perspective. It is true that massive amounts of effort were expended. That kind of pressure resulted in over provisioning of systems. From today's perspective, it is obvious that this transition was not as optimized for cost as it could have been. It makes sense, the major cloud service providers vary in ways they handle data and invoice for usage. It is difficult enough to understand the subtleties of one cloud service provider, nonetheless three. The good news, years ago (prior to the cloud), federal leaders dealt with multiple vendors. In this cloud era, handling several vendors can act as a check on over provisioning, and distribute services so there is no need to worry about down time. During the interview, Melissa Palmer reviews the sudden change that took place three years ago. She suggests that technology like Hashicorp's Terraform can provide users visibility into the system and the ability to provision, secure, and connect in an effective manner. In fact, Terraform is used widely in federal systems, but is pretty much unheralded. In an effort to remedy this situation, Melisssa outlines the formation of a federal Terraform User's group that would provide support and inspiration for federal users. IT admins are raised on skepticism and there's an entire security philosophy centered around distrust, right? So, so when you start talking about managed services and what we like in the cloud and what we see in the cloud, you start to run into a lot of IT admins that simply do not like it. And we've invited one. Melissa Palmer (also known as vMiss) joins us to tell us all about her cloud skepticism and how Azure VMware Solution with Azure NetApp Files helped her see the light about the usefulness of cloud.

In this week's podcast, Keith invites Independent Analyst Melissa Palmer(@vmiss33) to discuss Ransomware. Melissa is a VMware vSphere and Storage expert with years of experience. She blogs on vmiss.net.
Shawn Bentler had money trouble. He wanted money desperately, but didn't want to work for it. In fact, Shawn was so bad at showing up for work that he got fired from the family business. He later got fired from another job when he told his boss that he was overwhelmed by the sudden passing of his father. (His dad was very much alive.) But at some point, Shawn came up with an idea. If his family was dead, he'd inherit a lot of money. When Christy Mack and Jon Koppenhaver, a.k.a. “War Machine” met on a photo shoot for Hustler Magazine, Christy was indifferent. She wasn't looking for a boyfriend. She valued her independence. But she and Jon got to talking, and she was charmed. She'd never had someone shower her with so much love and attention before. Within a few weeks, they began dating. A few months later, the violence began. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. It seems like Melissa Palmer, CEO & Co-Founder of OSEA Malibu, was born to be in the Wellness and Skincare market. It all started in the early part of the last century with her Great grandmother. She was a fierce German immigrant, who among other things was the first woman chiropractor in the United States, and who strongly believed that the ocean was the source of life. This family legend and lore took hold of Melissa's mother who went on to start experimenting with skincare ingredients. Her central hypothesis or question was this: "If she created a company that used ingredients that were safe and effective and natural. Would people notice the difference?" This led to using seaweed as a natural ingredient and the launch of the forward-thinking, innovative clean beauty brand, OSEA Malibu. In Part 1 of this two-part episode listen to Ramon Vela interview Melissa as she shares with us the story of building a brand. Including everything from the growth of the Wellness Health industry, how Osea got started (the full story), why customers are now searching for natural ingredients, why D2C helps you control your message, how starting in Spa's help them learn the art of educating consumers, why Seaweed is one of the fastest growing segments in the market, why "Clean Beauty" is now the latest thing and why "performance-based naturals will be the next big thing in Clean Beauty. Happy #SeekTheJoy Tuesday! On the podcast this week is Melissa Palmer, the CEO of OSEA Malibu. OSEA was founded over 20 years ago by Melissa’s mother, Jenefer Palmer, and it was born out of the desire to create active, organic, and natural luxury skincare products free of toxic and synthetic ingredients that embody the core elements of wellness: ocean, sun, earth and atmosphere. This week's episode is one of those conversations where I lost track of time, and it's definitely one of my favorites by far. I loved getting to know Melissa and learning more about her journey and the OSEA story. Melissa is such a kind and inspiring woman and leader - and it's an honor to be her first podcast! Today's episode is a fun one, and we really get a behind the scenes look at the incredible family story behind OSEA, what it was like for Melissa growing up with a bathtub always full of seaweed, working and collaborating as a family, and transitioning from a one-woman show to having a successful team. We also had a wonderful conversation about confronting and pushing past moments of self-doubt, tapping back into Melissa's creativity, letting go of perfectionism, her self-care practice (and checklist!), and so much more. To learn more about today's episode head over to the show notes section of our website seekthejoypodcast.com/show-notes/melissapalmer To learn more about Melissa and OSEA, visit their website oseamalibu.com and you can find them on Instagram.com/oseamalibu and on Facebook.com/oseamalibu and at spas and stores around the country! Trying to find your passion and convey that passion in the college application process is sometimes confusing for students and parents. Partly because passion can be so illusive – a difficult thing even for middle aged adults to identify! Sometimes students have multiple passions, say in athletics and service work, and have a different challenge – figuring out how to choose which one to highlight in their college applications. This week on Access College, we cover key points in Finding Your Passion in the college admissions process. Our two featured guests, John Kobara of the California Community Foundation, and Melissa Palmer from the Oakwood School, shed invaluable light on how to help young students find their passion and how to communicate these passions to colleges.
