Melissa Palmer is the CEO and co-founder of OSEA, a heritage skincare brand with nearly 30 years of history, known for its use of seaweed as a signature ingredient in its products.Melissa grew up surrounded by women who were deeply inspired by the sea, and OSEA is the result of four generations of Palmer women. From a young age, she was taught the importance of wellness and the power of natural foods and beauty. Her mother and co-founder, Jenefer, spent decades perfecting her formulas, often filling their bathtub with seaweed and experimenting with various concoctions in their kitchen. Federal Tech Podcast: Listen and learn how successful companies get federal contracts

When the history of Covid and federal information technology is written, historians will talk about the amazing ability to transition to remote workers.   As in all history, when time separates incidents, one gets a more nuanced perspective. It is true that massive amounts of effort were expended. That kind of pressure resulted in over provisioning of systems. From today's perspective, it is obvious that this transition was not as optimized for cost as it could have been.  It makes sense, the major cloud service providers vary in ways they handle data and invoice for usage.  It is difficult enough to understand the subtleties of one cloud service provider, nonetheless three.  The good news, years ago (prior to the cloud), federal leaders dealt with multiple vendors. In this cloud era, handling several vendors can act as a check on over provisioning, and distribute services so there is no need to worry about down time.  During the interview, Melissa Palmer reviews the sudden change that took place three years ago.  She suggests that technology like Hashicorp's Terraform can provide users visibility into the system and the ability to provision, secure, and connect in an effective manner. In fact, Terraform is used widely in federal systems, but is pretty much unheralded. In an effort to remedy this situation, Melisssa outlines the formation of a federal Terraform User's group that would provide support and inspiration for federal users. Shawn Bentler had money trouble. He wanted money desperately, but didn't want to work for it. In fact, Shawn was so bad at showing up for work that he got fired from the family business. He later got fired from another job when he told his boss that he was overwhelmed by the sudden passing of his father. (His dad was very much alive.) But at some point, Shawn came up with an idea. If his family was dead, he'd inherit a lot of money.  When Christy Mack and Jon Koppenhaver, a.k.a. “War Machine” met on a photo shoot for Hustler Magazine, Christy was indifferent. She wasn't looking for a boyfriend. She valued her independence. But she and Jon got to talking, and she was charmed. She'd never had someone shower her with so much love and attention before. Within a few weeks, they began dating. A few months later, the violence began. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “The Case of Jon Koppenhaver,” JCS - Criminal Psychology “The tragic love story of Christy Mack and MMA fighter War Machine,” by Jane McManus for espn.com Christy Mack's twitter account “Cage-fighter War Machine blames anti-male society for his domestic violence in suicide note,” by Scott Kauffman for rawstory.com “Ex-fighter War Machine gets judge to postpone trial,” by Ken Ritter for the Associated Press “War Machine sentenced to life for brutal assault of ex: Inside the MMA star's fall,” by Mike Bohn for Rolling Stone “Christy Mack vs. War Machine: The whole ugly case, explained,” by Meera Jagannathan for the Daily News “Porn star Christy Mack's alleged ‘rape fantasy' new focal point of War Machine abuse trial,” by Jessa Schroeder for the Daily News “War Machine blows ‘offensive' kiss after arguing that porn star ex cant' claim rape because of her job as sex worker,” the Daily News “MMA Fighter ‘War Machine' arrested in Simi Valley, was sought in Las Vegas beating of ex-girlfriend,” by Melissa Palmer and Mary Beth McDade for KTLA In this episode, Brandi pulled from: “Shawn Bentler” podcast episode, This Is Monsters “Shawn Michael Bentler” murderpedia.org “Man charged in killing described as unreliable” Associated Press “Trial Opens for Man accused of Killing his 3 Sister, Parents in Iowa” Associated Press “Judge to visit home where man is accused of killing his family” by Amy Lorentzen, Associated Press “Emotional day for Bentler family” Associated Press “Remembering the Bentlers” by Melissa Shriver, KHQA News “Killer's Children Get Millions” KTVO News “State v. It seems like Melissa Palmer, CEO & Co-Founder of OSEA Malibu, was born to be in the Wellness and Skincare market. It all started in the early part of the last century with her Great grandmother. She was a fierce German immigrant, who among other things was the first woman chiropractor in the United States, and who strongly believed that the ocean was the source of life. This family legend and lore took hold of Melissa's mother who went on to start experimenting with skincare ingredients. Her central hypothesis or question was this: "If she created a company that used ingredients that were safe and effective and natural. Would people notice the difference?" This led to using seaweed as a natural ingredient and the launch of the forward-thinking, innovative clean beauty brand, OSEA Malibu.    In Part 1 of this two-part episode listen to Ramon Vela interview Melissa as she shares with us the story of building a brand. Including everything from the growth of the Wellness Health industry, how Osea got started (the full story), why customers are now searching for natural ingredients, why D2C helps you control your message, how starting in Spa's help them learn the art of educating consumers, why Seaweed is one of the fastest growing segments in the market, why "Clean Beauty" is now the latest thing and why "performance-based naturals will be the next big thing in Clean Beauty.    Check out other episodes at https://www.commercefocused.com/   For more on OSEA Malibu visit: https://oseamalibu.com/   Discount code: "thebrand" - Any purchase over $50 gets a free travel size product of their choice.

OSEA was founded over 20 years ago by Melissa’s mother, Jenefer Palmer, and it was born out of the desire to create active, organic, and natural luxury skincare products free of toxic and synthetic ingredients that embody the core elements of wellness: ocean, sun, earth and atmosphere. This week's episode is one of those conversations where I lost track of time, and it's definitely one of my favorites by far. I loved getting to know Melissa and learning more about her journey and the OSEA story. Melissa is such a kind and inspiring woman and leader - and it's an honor to be her first podcast! A viking and an octopus walk into a bar...Jim swears there's a punchline here but Colleen isn't so sure. This week, Rachel Brough tells us about "Vikings" (just in time for the new GOT premiere!) and next week Jim will tell us how vikings related to the octopuses in Melissa Palmer's "Three Hearts." Trying to find your passion and convey that passion in the college application process is sometimes confusing for students and parents. Partly because passion can be so illusive – a difficult thing even for middle aged adults to identify! Sometimes students have multiple passions, say in athletics and service work, and have a different challenge – figuring out how to choose which one to highlight in their college applications. This week on Access College, we cover key points in Finding Your Passion in the college admissions process. Our two featured guests, John Kobara of the California Community Foundation, and Melissa Palmer from the Oakwood School, shed invaluable light on how to help young students find their passion and how to communicate these passions to colleges.
