(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus U.S. missionary abducted at gunpoint while preaching in South Africa Josh Sullivan, a U.S. Baptist missionary, was kidnapped at gunpoint as he preached Thursday evening at Fellowship Baptist Church in Motherwell, South Africa, reports International Christian Concern. According to police, four masked gunmen entered the church late last night during a prayer meeting with about 30 attendees. The assailants stole two cell phones before abducting the 45-year-old pastor and taking him in his own vehicle, a silver Toyota 4Runner. The car was later found abandoned about a mile from the church.   A husband and father of six, Sullivan has been a missionary in South Africa since 2018. Sullivan and his family are members of Fellowship Baptist Church, an independent Baptist church in Maryville, Tennessee, where Sullivan has been on staff. His wife and children are among those who witnessed the kidnapping. Here at The Worldview, we're reminded of the inspiring words of Christ following Peter's bold affirmation. China raises duties on US goods to 125% Last Friday, China hiked its tariffs on imports of U.S. goods to 125%, hitting back at Donald Trump's decision to single out the world's No.2 economy for higher duties, while dismissing the U.S. president's tariff strategy as "a joke," reports Reuters. Investors had been waiting to see how Beijing would respond to Trump's move on Wednesday to effectively raise tariffs on Chinese goods to 145% while announcing a 90-day pause on tariffs on dozens of other countries' goods. Last year, China purchased $150 billion of U.S. goods. White House Press Secretary prays to Jesus before briefing White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is the youngest person to ever serve the president in that capacity at the age of 27. Not only is she an articulate champion for President Donald Trump and the “Make America Great Again” agenda, but she is also an unashamed follower of Jesus Christ. Judge: Columbia University activist Mahmoud Khalil can be deported Last Friday, an immigration judge in Louisiana ruled that Columbia University graduate student Mahmoud Khalil can be deported from America because he is a national security risk following his pro-Hamas demonstrations at Columbia, reports the Associated Press. Immigration Judge Jamee Comans gave the green light to the Trump administration's desire to deport Khalil.  Without such deportation, the government contended that his presence posed “potentially serious foreign policy consequences.” Colorado Governor signs anti-gun law Democratic Colorado Governor Jared Polis, a self-professed homosexual who has entered into a faux marriage with his “husband,” has dealt a heavy blow to Coloradans' Second Amendment freedom by signing Senate Bill 3 into law, reports the Colorado State Shooting Association. This oppressive permit-to-purchase scheme is a direct attack on their Second Amendment rights, afflicting Coloradans with bureaucratic hurdles to block their God-given liberties, President George Washington declared, “The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference—they deserve a place of honor with all that's good.” RFK, Jr vows to know causes of autism epidemic by September As he sat in Trump's Cabinet meeting, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. spoke to the autism epidemic and what he proposed to do about it. KENNEDY: “The autism rates have gone from one in 31 from one in 10,000 when I was a kid. At your direction, by September, we will know what has caused the autism epidemic.” Kennedy noted that HHS has “launched a massive testing and research effort that's going to involve hundreds of scientists from around the world.”  Once they have identified the causes, hopefully by September, HHS will advocate for the elimination of those exposures. Libraries partner with Planned Parenthood to offer free sex health resources And finally, if you thought the library was a place to borrow books for a research paper or read the local daily paper, think again! Twelve Sacramento, California Public Libraries now feature “sexual health resource cabinets” inside public libraries to give the public, including children, access to items like condoms, Sexually Transmitted Diseases tests, and pregnancy tests, reports CBS News. These cabinets are being stocked by none other than Planned Parenthood, America's Abortion Giant, which killed 392,715 pre-born babies in 2023 alone.  In fact, QR codes on the free literature not only enables library patrons to easily find their local Planned Parenthood affiliate, but also to get their immoral worldview through their God-forsaken website. Michael Reed, a parent, was disturbed by the easy access to the sexual health resource cabinets, especially for kids. REED: “It's a little shocking. It seems a little inappropriate just to target children that way.” But Todd Deck, the community engagement services manager for Sacramento Public Libraries, thought the libraries were doing something wonderfully noble. DECK: "We want to remove the stigma around these resources. Libraries are essential to healthy, thriving communities. So, having resources that are of interest and needs of that community is really critical. I do believe it is our responsibility to help have an informed community regardless of the topic -- that way people can make informed decisions about their health." Greg Burt, Vice President of the California Family Council, rejected the librarian's absurd worldview. BURT: “Now parents would have to be concerned. Instead of coming back with a book, they're going to come back with a condom. “This is really about cutting parents out. It's about sexualizing our kids at younger and younger ages.” In Matthew 18:6, Jesus said, “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in Me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” Not surprisingly, the cabinets have been re-stocked multiple times since being installed six weeks ago as they have been set up both in the library's main hub and in the adult section. Elizabeth Johnston, a Christian mother of 10, is not surprised by the hostility to a Judeo-Christian worldview at the library. The American Library Association's one-time president Emily Drabinski, who served from July 2022 to 2024, was a self-avowed “Marxist lesbian.” She wrote a paper on “queering the catalogue” and said wildly inflammatory things about parents who do not want their children to read sexually inappropriate literature. It's 17th February 1964 – You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' by The Righteous Brothers is at number one in the UK. Sir Alec Douglas-Home is Prime Minister, Beatlemania has erupted in the United States, Southampton has been granted city status (can you tell this script was running short?), and the Channel Tunnel Agreement was signed, with an estimated completion time of five years (though it would actually take 30). Meanwhile, at the cinema, released as a double feature with The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb, is today's topic – The Gorgon.    Anthony Nelson Keys, one of four filmmaking sons of comedian Nelson "Bunch" Keys, is well-known in this parish for a number of topics we've discussed before, including Quatermass and the Pit (Ep 34) and The Reptile (Ep 19). He joined Hammer in 1956 as an associate producer, later becoming a producer and occasional screenwriter. Keys also served as General Manager of Bray Studios in the 1960s and eventually co-founded Charlemagne Productions with Christopher Lee—or should that be production (singular)? As we know, they managed only one film together: Nothing but the Night (covered in Episode 42).     Richard Pasco plays Paul Heitz. Late in his career, he starred as Tom Colley in The Watcher in the Woods, a favorite film from Ross's youth that we must cover one day. Before that, he played Cardinal Richelieu in the 1966 TV adaptation of The Three Musketeers and Dr. Boris Zargo in Rasputin: The Mad Monk.    #BigChrisLee appears as Professor Karl Meister, while his best buddy Peter Cushing plays Dr. Namaroff. Despite popular belief that they always worked together, the pair hadn't shared the screen in four years before this production began.    Barbara Shelley stars as Carla Hoffman. Born Barbara Teresa Kowin in 1932, Shelley appeared in over 100 films and TV series. She's celebrated for her roles in horror classics like Village of the Damned, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, Rasputin: The Mad Monk, and Quatermass and the Pit.    For the role of the monster, former ballerina Prudence Hyman was cast, as the creature was intended to float gracefully, almost like a wraith. (Spoiler alert!) Shelley had hoped to play her character's Gorgon form herself for continuity and even suggested using a special wig with live green garden snakes for realism. Unfortunately, the idea was rejected due to budget and time constraints. After seeing the disappointing Gorgon effects in the final cut, Keys admitted to Shelley that her suggestion might have been the better choice. As #BigChrisLee quipped, “The only thing wrong with The Gorgon is the Gorgon!”    Visually, this film is stunning, so let's give a shoutout to Michael Reed's cinematography and Bernard Robinson's production design. Michael Reed's CV includes Dracula: Prince of Darkness, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and five episodes of CITVs Press Gang. From Darkhorse Press UPDATE: Rankin County Coroner David Ruth identified the man who died after the chase as 64-year-old Michael Reed, from Brandon. The chase ended with the suspect deceased on Hwy 18 near the Johnson Community. According to Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey, the suspect being chased was wanted out of Rankin County for Violation of his bond conditions on Felony Stalking and had been entered on NCIC as a wanted person. The chase involved Pearl Police Department, Richland Police Department, MHP, Brandon Police Department, Byram Police Department, and MBI.

On the latest Mormon Book Reviews, a recently rediscovered 22-foot painted panorama by C. C. A. Christensen is discussed with Devan Jensen, the executive editor at the BYU Religious Studies Center. Devan told me how Steven Olsen at the Church History Department rediscovered and acquired a rare, early panorama painted by C. C. A. Christensen that was used to proselytize Native Americans in Utah. Devan then told me how he got involved with the project and that the Church History Museum team identified the date of 1871 on the back of canvas. I mentioned to him that the earliest extant artwork of a Book of Mormon scene was identified by my friend Dr. Chris Thomas in his book "A Pentecostal Reads the Book of Mormon." In his book he described a painting of David Hyrum Smith that was dated to around 1874 according to Lachlan MacKay, Community of Christ historian and apostle. It was very exciting that I was able to identify an existing piece that is even older! In this episode we discuss the fascinating story of Christensen and his art. We then discuss each image of the panorama. The imagery is very striking for LDS art because it contains partial nudity and an early crucifixion scene. I then discuss the importance of the image of the cross in the Christian world, as well as the history of the use of the cross in the 19th and 20th Century Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The role of David O. McKay and his actions to modernize the Church, emulate 1950s Protestantism, and moving the Church away from Roman Catholic imagery like the cross is also discussed. The work "Banishing the Cross: The Emergence of a Mormon Taboo" by Michael Reed is referenced as well. This panorama was used as a proselytizing tool to convert the local Native American peoples. We briefly talk about the Bear River Massacre and the work of Darren Parry and Thomas Murphy. We also preview the upcoming Brigham Young Journals project and the Church History Symposium to be held next month (March 2022). This was an important and very exciting interview to conduct, and I want to thank Devan for coming on. The 2022 Church History Symposium will be held on March 10–11, 2022. Chef Michael Reed and his wife Kwini are the owners of Poppy + Rose in downtown Los Angeles. They are also the owners of the soon-to-open Poppy & Seed in Anaheim - a stunning new space built into what can only be described as a greenhouse near the Anaheim Packing District.
