Greetings Glocal Citizens! For this week's episode we're back in West Africa with Nigerian-American journalist and author, Abi Ishola-Ayodeji. Her critically acclaimed debut novel, Patience is a Subtle Thief, was named one of BuzzFeed's best books of May 2022 and received a coveted Kirkus-starred review. As a journalist, she has showcased her talent across a diverse range of platforms, including http://ELLE.com, PBS, http://Ebony.com, CUNY TV, and more. Her career has seen her cover extraordinary people, communities, and events from New York City to Paris and from Nigeria to Ghana. In 2017, Essence Magazine named her among its Woke 100 Women for launching Beyond Classically Beautiful (https://www.bellanaija.com/2015/01/beyondclassicallybeautiful-us-based-nigerian-journalist-abi-ishola-creates-photo-story-in-support-of-classic-black-beauty/), an acclaimed photo story and media platform celebrating women of color who defy traditional beauty standards which you'll learn much more about in our conversation. After years of struggling to write a complete novel, she adopted a winning plan that helped her finish her manuscript seamlessly. She landed a deal with HarperCollins upon her first submission to a publisher. As she continues to work on her second novel, she is also coaching aspiring authors on how to write and finish the novel of their dreams. Imagine If It All Worked Out? This week Hannah is joined by shining star Nick Ede. Nick is OVERFLOWING with positive vibes, so much so, he claims he was ‘born positive'. Nick talks through his story, starting from when he lost his mum at age 23. It spurred him to start his charity ‘Style for Stroke' and knock on celebs' doors in order to throw some epic parties. Hannah manages to ‘convince' Nick that manifesting is in fact real, because the biggest part is taking the action towards what you want. Nick details how he landed his big break, as a judge on project catwalk, effortlessly, just by being himself. Hannah and Nick discuss how adversity is an opportunity to grow and take that next step towards your biggest dreams, if you let it be. Nick talks about his ‘Revolution of Kindness' and how you can still people to f off and be kind. Hannah laughs A LOT in this episode, and it's a reminder that authenticity, laughter and love conquer all. Whatever you do, turn it into love. Oh and Hannah and Nick happened to both wear jumpers with Love quotes on them. Hi readers! Our fourth season has ended, and we're preparing for year five (CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!). In the meantime, we're revisiting our favorite episodes from the past and sharing them again with all of you. This week is for the LAMBLY. Mariah Carey is a girl from New York State with Irish and Black American roots. She has a father, mother, brother, and sister but no family.  What she does have is the following: The most weeks at number one on Billboard's Hot 100 Chart for any artist in American history 19 number-one singles – second only to the Beatles The honor of being the only artist to have a number-one single in each year of a decade (!!!) The honor of being the first female artist to debut at number one in the States 5 Grammy Awards 19 World Music Awards 10 American Music Awards 15 Billboard Music Awards A place in the Songwriters Hall of Fame When people had to save up, wake up, stand in line, and wait to hear their favorite artist, they bought her albums by the MILLIONS. Her talent is undeniable.    This is the story of Mariah, aka Me-Me, the Elusive Chanteuse, aka M.C. The Meaning of Mariah is a memoir by one of our generation's greatest singer/songwriters. Within its pages, she talks about the people who almost killed her, tried to get her hooked on drugs, tried to get her pimped, and tried to kill her dreams - all before she turned 18 years old. She also gives her honest opinion regarding her triumphs and failures and the cast of people who opened their hearts to let her in when those tasked with the job failed to be reliable.   Please enjoy this, the final episode of our 2020 season, originally airing November 19th, 2020. Alexis and Kari

For Black women, hair is about so much more than beauty. It can affect how they're treated and what opportunities are available to them. It's tied to history, identity and politics. And though many Black women and girls now embrace their natural curls, Black hair is still a site of discrimination. In this episode, Brittany Luse talks to two women fighting to change that: Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.), who has been pushing for a federal law against race-based hair discrimination, and Michaela Angela Davis, whose docuseries "The Hair Tales" is meant to inspire Black women to celebrate their crowning glories. What are you doing? Mariah Carey stripping on TRL right now, utbrister Carson Daly till kameran. Under t-shirten har hon korta guldiga shorts och en grön halternecktopp. Programledaren ser skeptisk ut, men det verkar inte beröra Mariah, som istället börjar svamla om att hon behöver gå i terapi. You are my therapy session right now Carson. You see every now and then, somebody needs a little therapy, and today is that moment for me. Ljudklipp i dokumentären kommer från Video Soul, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Oprah Conversation, Larry King, Total Request Live, MTV News, The Late Show with David Letterman, Stina och Lennart i TV4, Grammy Awards, VH1's Most Amazing Comebacks, Mariah Careys youtubekanal, Entertainment Tonight, Taff, TMZ, Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, CNN News, The Early show (CBS), Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve och youtubekontot Ordinary Guy.

Shelly sits down with arguably the biggest 'lamb'(lamb=Mariah fan) of all time, Ghia Parow, to discuss The Meaning of Mariah Carey. It is HER story told HER way. There is drama and overcoming and lots of straight HUSTLE. It is Holiday/Election season 2020, so maybe the weirdest December of all time, but 'All I Want for Christmas is You' is #1 for the 26th December in a row. RESPECT! Shelly learns what 'balayage ombre' means. We smoke some Stage 5 Clinger. We sing a little Mariah, of course. I recommend the audiobook because the queen herself reads it to ya and she is a sassy little hoot. Check it out. You know you need to turn off the news for a minute. AND...oh my this made me feel like a stoner when I listened back......ummmm......OF COURSE I KNOW the 'Ms.Wiggins' line was Tim CONWAY, not 'Conroy', omg the shame. Forgive me. Great clip though. Go look at that one too.

Mariah Carey is a girl from New York state whose mom was Irish and her father, Black. She has a brother and sister but no family. What she does have is the following:The most weeks at number one on Billboard's Hot 100 Chart for any artist in American history19 number-one singles – second only to the BeatlesThe honor of being the only artist to have a number-one single in each year of a decade (!!!)The honor of being the first female artist to debut at number one in the States5 Grammy Awards19 World Music Awards10 American Music Awards15 Billboard Music AwardsA place in the Songwriters Hall of FameWhen people had to save up, wake up, stand in line, and wait to hear their favorite artist, they were buying her albums by the MILLIONS. Her talent is undeniable.  This is the story of a real-life person named Mariah, aka Me-Me, aka the Elusive Chanteuse, aka M.C. The meaning of Mariah is a memoir by one of the greatest singer/songwriters of our generation. Please enjoy this, the final episode of our 2020 season. Thank you, all of you, for listening to our show and validating the time we spend on this project of which we're so proud. Please take care of yourself and those you love. We'll see you on January 14, 2021. Alexis and Kari
