In our season finale, we pass the microphone to U.S. Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-MO) and reproductive justice activist, abortion storyteller and writer Renee Bracey-Sherman for a heartfelt discussion about the stories we tell, believe and redefine about our bodies and abortions. The two discuss their own abortion experiences, the moments in pop culture that shaped their understandings of pregnancy, what local abortion wins (shoutout Missouri!) mean for the future of care and so much more. This episode also features abortion doula, community organizer and reproductive justice consultant Ash Williams, who narrates an excerpt from WHOLE, a narrative for abortion freedom. For transcripts and more, visit natalstories.com. Today's show opens with now ex-Squad member, Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) who was defeated in a democrat primary in her own district. She went on an unhinged rant that shows us just how mentally unwell she really is. We then go to VP Kamala Harris's campaign stop in Detroit, MI, where she is literally using Joe Biden's identical speech. In it, she promises to bring down prices, fight high rents, take on Big Pharma and more. This begs the question, if this is something she can legitimately accomplish, why hasn't she already? Why hasn't Joe? I didn't report on the story that Doug Emhoff, Harris's husband, got divorced after getting the nanny of his child pregnant and then made her get an abortion. This was a “bombshell” story, but I don't see value in those kinds of salacious tales. Unless something happens as a result. It seems the latest news is Kamala, furious at the reveal, may have rushed to pick her running mate in an effort to change the headlines. Is that the rash sort of behavior we want in a Commander-in-Chief? Anti-Israel hecklers were also at the speech. They ruffled Harris's feather enough that she told them that she was speaking. She channeled the voice of the old schoolmarm, talking down to a group of unruly students. Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) isn't shaking the allegation of being in violation of the Stolen Valor Act. The more he tries to ignore it, the more it is being reported. Even CNN raised his prior framing of his military service in war zones as problematic. This might be why we just caught Bloomberg news trying to re-write an article, changing the word “Iraq” to “Italy” in an effort to give Walz cover. Shifting gear, Tulsi Gabbard just confirmed the breaking news story we had earlier in the week about being secretly put on the Harris-Biden regime's domestic terror watch list. Seems if you run afoul of this Authoritarian rulers, it gets you flagged as a problem. Senator JD Vance (R-OH) trolled both VP Kamala Harris and the press beautifully yesterday. Seems Air Force Two was on the same tarmac, so Vance walked over the press and suggested they might be lonely, given the VP has yet to do a single interview with or answer a single question from them. The two astronauts stranded at the Space Station were just told it might not be until February before they might be returned to Earth. Once again, what a perfect metaphor for this Administration. Two ridiculous items of the day: Jessica Tarlov got fact-checked live on TV when she tried to pass the “inject bleach” hoax as true; and, the new judge in the Young Thug trial out of the big Fani Willis DA's office in Fulton County, GA, gave a stern warning to the lead prosecutor. Today's Friday episode opens, as is customary, with Tara Bull's Top 10 News Items the Legacy/mainstream media likely didn't tell you about this week. It's always great to go through those in rapid-fire style before diving into the news stack. Nothing says celebrating Independence Day like illegal migrants on the streets of Philadelphia lighting American flags on fire, while waving those of Palestine and Hamas. And, since I'm discussing pro-Hamas, pro-terrorist, anti-Semite, anti-Constitutional, anti-America people, let's check out four members of the Squad. It seems Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) all chose not to wish their constituents a Happy 4th of July. Today's jobs report is not nearly as good as the Left wants you to believe. Plus, they quietly revised the past two months numbers down over 111,000 jobs. We also saw unemployment go up to 4.1%. And, 74% of the jobs were in the public sector or healthcare. Next, we spend time going through more tap-dancing from the Leftist media outlets and their proxies. Joe Biden told Democrat Governors that he needs to get more sleep and not work so hard. The AP said Biden is “sharp and focused, but sometimes confused and forgetful.” That ought to help. Joe Scarborough has found a 3rd position to take on Biden's debate performance. Peter Baker, Chief White House correspondent for the NYTimes put out a tweet where it is so hard to decide which side he favors as a “journalist.” Olivia Nuzzi with New York Magazine wants us to know she first heard about the disturbed interactions people were having with Joe Biden starting in January, but it took her seven months to finally write her story. She must really suck at what she does. Little Brian Stelter was back on his on CNN and wants us to believe Democrats are must more pious and sanctified because they are at least having the conversation over replacing Joe Biden. Those waskily wepublicans are sticking with a “convicted felon.” VP Kamala Harris is on the damage control bandwagon. She is selling the tale that Joe is just as sharp and as on the ball as ever. He just had a bad night, but we need to give him some time to show the world he's totally fine. Similarly, the self-appointed consiglere of the Biden Crime Family Syndicate is out pushing the same narrative. Axios, however, may have revealed the most concerning item to today. It seems three of Jill Biden's closest advisers and confidants are the ones surrounding Joe Biden, where he's lost all independence. I don't remember voting for Annie, Ashley and Anthony, the triple A's, to call the shots. We start to wind down with the State Supreme Court in Wisconsin shooting down the law preventing ballot drop boxes. Seems they are pretty focused on being able to use them for cheating once again. We remind you of Kamala's soft bigotry of low-expectation stance regarding voter ID laws. And, we remind you that the VP is a very low-IQ person, even when she tries so hard to sound smart. Memorial Day, EPA grants, DEI is DIE, a backwards closing, jury tampering, EV charging and MAGA Chicago

The Alan Sanders Show

On today's show, I open with a reminder that Memorial Day is a holiday to remember those who have died in service to our nation. I do that because two members of the Squad, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) confused yesterday with Veteran's Day. Senator Shelley Capito (R-VA) held a quick presser Friday to let us know the EPA has given $50 million dollars to a company that is anti-Israel/anti-Semite and anti-police. Yet, they are being funded simply because they claim to be a Green New Deal aligned organization. This past Friday, we informed you that whistleblowers inside UCLA's medical school are concerned that 50% of the students brought in under DEI admissions policies cannot pass basic medical knowledge tests. This reminded me of the interview Don Lemon (formerly of CNN) questioned Elon Musk over Musk's derision over DEI. Closing arguments are beginning in the Alvin Bragg led trial against Donald Trump. The clown show continues to be more clownish. The instructions are so messed up to the jury and Judge Juan Merchan wants the defense to give their closing argument first. This makes no sense whatsoever. David Gelman, a criminal defense attorney, weighed-in on this on Fox News this weekend. Continuing the obvious lawfare being waged by the White House, Joe Biden has already announced that he is ready to address the nation the moment the jury announces their verdict in the NYC case. We know they cannot trust Biden to go unscripted so we can conclude one of two options are at play. The first, the Administration already knows the outcome of the case and they have already written that speech. Or, they have written two speeches, one for if he is found guilty and the other for a hung jury. While we are on the discussion of watching our legal system be dismantled before out eyes, Joe Biden made an unexpected visit to the ex of Hunter Biden just before she testifies in his gun case. Nothing to see here. Mayor Pete found himself laughed at by the host of Meet the Press when he tried to explain why the government spent $7.5 billion on EV charging stations but only have 7 or 8 built thus far? His excuse hold no water when compared to Elon Musk's 50,000+ stations built for just over $1 billion. National Review put out a piece today begging Ohio to get Joe Biden on the ballot. It's ironic that while the Left plays games with the law to suit their wishes, Republicans are getting blasted for actually following the letter of the law. The floating pier the military built just outside of Gaza is sinking. It's a perfect microcosm for the entirety of the Biden regime. Over priced, poorly conceived and an abject failure. Finally, there is a MAGA movement in the heart of Chicago begging Donald Trump to come hold a rally there. More and more residents of blue cities and states are waking up and realizing how bad Biden is for them and how good things were under Trump. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (01/30/2024): 3:05pm- According to a report from Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman, the Department of Justice has opened a criminal investigation into Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) for “misspending of federal security money.” The House Sergeant at Arms has been subpoenaed for records relating to the allegations. 3:10pm- In a New York Times editorial, Clark D. Cunningham—a law professor at Georgia State University—explains the legal consequences for the alleged improper relationship between lead prosecutor in the Donald Trump Georgia election interference criminal case, Nathan Wade, and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Cunningham writes: “Mr. Wade was very involved in both the special grand jury investigation and the current criminal case, despite an absence of obvious qualifications. Although Ms. Willis has defended her decision to hire Mr. Wade, his previous experience as a prosecutor appears to have been largely limited to misdemeanors. The amount paid to Mr. Wade so far is substantial yet Mr. Wade's billing invoices obtained by Mr. Roman's lawyer are not well documented and don't always offer, for example, itemized time worked in increments of less than one day. If Ms. Willis and Mr. Wade are dismissed by Judge McAfee, it will be up to a state agency, the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia, to appoint a prosecutor to take over from Ms. Willis. And that's where things could really go off the rails. Take one precedent: On July 25, 2022, Ms. Willis was disqualified from prosecuting Burt Jones, who was then a state senator, after she hosted a fund-raiser for Mr. Jones's eventual opponent in the race for lieutenant governor. Eighteen months later, the PACGA still hasn't appointed a special prosecutor, and Mr. Jones, now lieutenant governor, has not even been indicted. Delay is not even the worst possible outcome for the case if Ms. Willis is disqualified. A special prosecutor could decide to reduce or dismiss charges against some or all of the defendants, including Mr. Trump.” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/24/opinion/fani-willis-trump-georgia.html 3:20pm- Michael R. Gordon of The Wall Street Journal writes: “Three U.S. service members were killed and at least 34 were injured in an Iran-backed militia's drone strike on a base in northeast Jordan, U.S. officials said on Sunday, marking the first American troops killed in hostile action since the start of the Hamas-Israeli conflict in Gaza. A U.S. official said that the attack took place overnight at Tower 22, a small outpost near the Syria border. The drone struck living quarters for the troops, contributing to the high casualties, a U.S. official said. The strike, which was carried out by a one-way attack drone, signals an escalation in the fighting in the region. When asked about raising interest rates three-quarters of a percent in the face of 40-year-high inflation, Powell said such a move was off the table and called inflation ‘transitory'… Once the Senate confirmed him for a second term as chairman, however, Powell promptly delivered four of those three-quarter-percent interest rate hikes in a row and began reducing the Fed's balance sheet to belatedly fight runaway inflation.” You can read Dr. Antoni's full editorial here: https://www.heritage.org/monetary-policy/commentary/the-feds-powell-will-have-play-politics-keep-his-job 4:35pm- The Florida House of Representatives has passed legislation that would ban minors under the age of 16 from accessing social media. Today we open with two quotes from within the Biden regime and both are at odds with each other. First, we go back to early October, 2023, where National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan wanted us to know the Middle East is as quiet as it's been in decades. Yet, just this week, Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the Middle East has not been this bad since 1973. This is the problem with all of the magic-thinking within the White House. In the meantime, Joe Biden is in angry mode a lot, especially when his dementia-ridden mind can't think of what to say next, so it just regurgitates the hoaxes and lies he has told so many times in the past. And while President Applesauce Brain is yelling into the ether, the Ukrainian president seems to be saying that billions of dollars meant for them are actually going into the pockets of other Americans. What? It's almost like Ukraine is a laundromat for money. The J6 pipe bomb story is one that still has more questions than answers. However, the FBI is likely not happy that the story won't go away. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has just learned that that person who discovered the DNC pipe bomb was actually a plainclothes Capitol police officer. It's nice to see our politicians catching up to where this audience has been fore weeks. Moving onto lawfare, it looks like six pro-life protesters could be going to jail for nearly 11 years thanks to the DOJ throwing the book at them. And, while many on the Left seem to be okay when lawfare is being used against their political enemies, I wonder if Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), is having second thoughts now that she is under investigation for hiring her then boyfriend, now husband, to be on her personal security team? Continuing with the lawfare discussion, things keep getting worse and worse for the Big Fani Willis Reality TV show. It seems a whistleblower in her department has a recording to show Willis was okay turning a blind-eye to malfeasance within the Fulton County DA's office. As we start to wind down, I want to remind you that if you believe Trump did no good whatsoever, you must be okay with child sex trafficking. I just want to remind you that Trump was the first president to not only acknowledge the problem of the child sex trade in the United States, but also was the first to setup an office in the White House to help law enforcement do all it can to stop it. On day two of the Biden regime, Joe Biden overturned that Executive Order by Trump and hasn't done anything to stop child sex trafficking since. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre wants you to know that Joe Biden never demeans the American people or voters. So, we play a quick montage of Joe Biden demeaning and disparaging Americans. And, on top of that, it seem Joe wants to finally visit East Palestine, OH, but voters there know it's only about playing election year politics. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: According to a report from Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman, the Department of Justice has opened a criminal investigation into Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) for “misspending of federal security money.” The House Sergeant at Arms has been subpoenaed for records relating to the allegations. In a New York Times editorial, Clark D. Trump.” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/24/opinion/fani-willis-trump-georgia.html Michael R. The president and secretary of defense said the U.S. would retaliate.” You can read the full article here: https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/three-u-s-troops-killed-in-drone-attack-in-jordan-b45ddb6b?mod=hp_lead_pos1 While speaking with Vice News in 2020, then-presidential candidate Joe Biden claimed that then-President Donald Trump would “get us into a war with Iran” as a way to distract from his reelection troubles. Speaking with the press outside of the White House before boarding Marine One, President Joe Biden accused Iran of being responsible for Sunday's drone attack in Jordan which left three U.S. service members dead. Zenebou Sylla and Elizabeth Wolfe write: “A Pennsylvania jury handed down a $2.25 billion verdict against Monsanto and its parent company, Bayer, after determining its Roundup herbicide product caused a man's cancer, the plaintiff's lawyers announced…The jury delivered its verdict, which includes $2 billion in punitive damages, in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court on Friday after concluding Roundup ‘is a defective cancer-causing product, that Monsanto was negligent, and that Monsanto failed to warn about the dangers' of the weed killer, the law firm [Kline & Specter] said.” You can read the full article here: https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/29/us/roundup-cancer-verdict-philadelphia-bayer-monsanto/index.html A Florida man is suing Combos snacks parent company Mars Inc. for deceptive marketing—arguing that there is not enough real cheese in the snack food.

Recent mortgage pricing changes, which have generally decreased fees for borrowers with lower credit scores and increased fees for those with higher scores, have rightly garnered public outcry, but they are the tip of the iceberg. The administration's other changes require just as much attention, particularly since the reigning mantra of the White House is to strengthen ‘racial equity and support for underserved communities'—regardless of who gets hurt or how much it costs. Missed in the debate about loan-level pricing changes is that the Federal Housing Finance Agency already distorts the riskiness of loans it originates, and ultimately taxpayers are on the hook for those loans.” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/biden-courts-another-mortgage-crisis-federal-housing-finance-agency-mortgage-loans-risk-2008-homeownership-fe752269?mod=opinion_lead_pos7 4:25pm- On June 16th, the Los Angeles Dodgers will be hosting the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence—a far-left, self-described LGBTQ+ affiliated group that has gained notoriety by mocking Catholics. 4:45pm- Target has begun removing “LGBTQ+” related merchandise from its stores and websites. And though many Black women and girls now embrace their natural curls, Black hair is still a site of discrimination. In this episode, Brittany Luse talks to two women fighting to change that: Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.), who has been pushing for a federal law against race-based hair discrimination, and Michaela Angela Davis, whose docuseries "The Hair Tales" is meant to inspire Black women to celebrate their crowning glories. This is Garrison Hardie with your CrossPolitic Daily NewsBrief for Tuesday, November 1st, 2022. I hope you guys had an excellent Reformation Day, and that you parents got some sleep with any potential candy crazed kiddos, but if you didn’t here’s some news to keep you entertained… https://thepostmillennial.com/dhs-leaks-starting-in-2020-dhs-began-meeting-with-twitter-facebook-wikipedia-and-more-monthly-to-coordinate-content-moderation-efforts?utm_campaign=64487 DHS LEAKS: Starting in 2020, DHS began meeting with Twitter, Facebook, Wikipedia and more monthly to coordinate 'content moderation' efforts The Department of Homeland Security has been working to influence big tech platforms. This became originally evident when the Biden administration launched the ill-fated Disinformation Governance Board early in 2022, but has been a focus of their efforts even beyond that now-defunct unit, and before. Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt filed a lawsuit that revealed via appended meeting minutes that former Microsoft executive Matt Masterson, who was formerly an official with DHS, told a DHS director in February 2022 that "Platforms have got to get comfortable with gov't. It's really interesteding how hesitant they remain." This according to The Intercept. Prior to 2020, it was reported that DHS met with Twitter, Facebook, Wikipedia, and other platforms in order to coordinate "content moderation" operations. These meetings were part of an ongoing initiative which saw collusion and collaboration between DHS and big tech to determine how "misinformation" would be dealt with on those platforms. Areas that came under this purview included the withdrawal from Afghanistan, undertaken disastrously by President Joe Biden in August 2021 as well as the origins of the Covid-19 virus, which became controversial enough that users were kicked off social media platforms for expressing the hypothesis that the virus originated in a Wuhan, China lab. A Senate report found last week that this was the most likely scenario. Information that could undermine trust in financial institutions was also targeted. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Act, signed by President Donald Trump, opened the door to this as it formed a new branch within DHS, which then undertook to deal with online "disinformation." CISA stated its understanding that the mission of that branch of DHS was "evolved," and meant to communicate their concerns on "disinformation" to social media companies. Social media companies took DHS' word for it. DHS used concerns about "marginialized communities" to justify their reach. Much of this effort became evidence as a result of an attempt to "fight disinformation" in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election. Both Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey spoke about their platform's effort to suppress and censor reporting from the New York Post. They did this, in part, because the FBI had told these platforms to watch out for a "misinformation" dump. During the elction, there were "weekly teleconference to coordinate Intelligence Community activities to counter election-related disinformation." Since then, meetings have taken place every two weeks. When the Hunter Biden laptop story broke, revealing the Biden family's influence peddling and shady overseas business dealings with Ukraine and China, social media platforms took the bait from the government and ditched the story. Countless other mainstream media outlets followed suit, going so far as to report on why they would not report on the story, citing "hacking," "misinformation," and a "Russian plot." All of these were incorrect, and many outlets, including The New York Times, had to walk it back. As a result of documents revealed in Schmitt's suit, it is now apparent that DHS officials were in fact "leading the push to expand the government's reach into disinformation," and that the government "also played a quiet role in shaping the decisions of social media giants around the New York Post story." Post-election polling showed that many Americans would not have voted for Joe Biden had they known the Hunter Biden laptop story was fact and not a disinformation plot. The case that revealed the information was brought this spring by Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt and Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry against top administration officials in US District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. It alleged that President Joe Biden and other administration officials "pressured and colluded" with Big Tech companies to censor the Hunter Biden laptop story as well as information regarding the lab leak origin theory of COVID-19 and the security of voting by mail. The lawsuit named White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra, Chief Medical Advisor and NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, and newly announced director of the DHS’s Disinformation Governance Board. Also named were the Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. The lawsuit alleges that the federal government had violated constitutional rights to suppress free speech in "one of its greatest assaults by federal government officials in the Nation’s history." San Francisco police arrived at the home and encountered Paul Pelosi, 82, and DePape struggling over a hammer. After the officers ordered them to drop the weapon, DePape allegedly seized control of it and swung it into Pelosi’s skull. Police recovered zip ties in Pelosi’s bedroom, found glass broken at the rear of the house, tape, rope, gloves and a journal, according to the FBI affidavit. Before Pelosi was taken to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery on a fractured skull, he told police from the ambulance that he had never seen DePape before and that the intruder showed up in his bedroom around 2:30 a.m. demanding to talk to "Nancy" – the House Speaker. The lawmaker’s husband told DePape that his wife was out, and DePape allegedly decided to wait for her to return. "Pelosi stated that his wife would not be home for several days, and then DePape reiterated that he would wait," according to the affidavit. "DePape stated that he was going to hold Nancy hostage and talk to her," the affidavit reads. "If Nancy were to tell DePape the ‘truth,’ he would let her go, and if she ‘lied,’ he was going to break ‘her kneecaps.’" "DePape also later explained that by breaking Nancy’s kneecaps, she would then have to be wheeled into Congress, which would show other Members of Congress that there were consequences to actions," the affidavit continues. DePape also allegedly admitted to breaking into the home, using the hammer to shatter a glass door and surprising Paul Pelosi in his bedroom. He also allegedly confessed to cracking the 82-year-old's skull. An Immigrations and Customers Enforcement source told Fox News Monday that DePape is in the U.S. illegally after a "longtime" visa overstay. He was born in Canada and emigrated to the U.S. about 20 years ago. DePape now faces federal charges and up to 50 years in prison according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/crime/thegrio-kff-survey-black-voters-17-percent-support-defunding-police Only 17% of black voters support defunding the police: Poll Only 17% of black voters say they support defunding the police, a poll released this week found. The Survey of Black Voters, conducted by TheGrio and KFF and published on Wednesday, asked 1,000 black adults who say they are registered to vote for their opinion on policing. About half of those polled, 48%, said they would like to see police funding kept about the same, while 34% said they wanted increased financial support. Just 17% responded that they support decreased funding for police in their area. Of black voters living in urban areas, 39% supported increased funding. That's a 10-point jump from the 29% of black voters living in suburban areas who said they back increased funds for police. The poll also found that 3 in 4 black voters viewed criminal justice and policing as a "very important factor in making their decision about who to vote for," including 77% of Democrats and 68% of Republicans. The issue of crime was as important for those who made under $40,000 per year as it was for those making over $90,000 annually. The "defund the police" effort emerged through Black Lives Matter protests, which began in the early 2010s. The idea was initially dismissed as fringe but grew in prominence during the summer of 2020, when the murder of George Floyd sparked racial justice protests across the country. Notable progressives such as Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Cori Bush (D-MO), and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) became ardent supporters of the defund movement. Other prominent Democrats, such as current Democratic candidates Stacey Abrams and John Fetterman, discussed reallocating funds to social services and investing in minority communities, as well as ideas for reimagining policing, in interviews. Clips from those conversations have been used by Republicans in ads against their candidacies. Not all Democrats got on board with the defund movement, though. Both President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) made frequent note of their support for increased police funding during the 2020 election cycle and hold the same positions now. Irving’s posts from late this past week drew a statement from the NBA and a public rebuke from Nets owner Joe Tsai. Firing Line with Margaret Hoover

Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) sits down with Margaret Hoover to discuss her new memoir “The Forerunner: A Tale of Pain and Perseverance in America,” her activism, and her progressive agenda. Bush recalls how she overcame difficult experiences–including sexual assaults, abortions, and evictions–to become the first Black woman to represent Missouri in Congress. A member of the progressive “Squad” in the House, she is now seeking re-election for a second term. Bush entered politics after taking a leading role in the Black Lives Matter protests over Michael Brown's killing by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014. She describes the tensions between her generation of activists and legacy civil rights organizations, and she explains why she was disappointed in President Barack Obama's response to the demonstrations. The congresswoman also defends policy priorities that have at times put her in conflict with fellow Democrats, including her commitment to “defund the police” and her plan to reform policing and public safety in America. Support for “Firing Line for Margaret Hoover” is provided by Stephens Inc., Robert Granieri, Charles R. Schwab, The Fairweather Foundation, Asness Family Foundation, The Rosalind P. Walter Foundation, Damon Button, Pritzker Military Foundation on behalf of the Pritzker Military Museum and Library, and The Marc Haas Foundation.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Show (10/05/2022): 3:00pm- According to a Bloomberg report, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has voted to cut oil production by 2 million barrels per day—despite the Biden Administration's numerous attempts to persuade the intergovernmental organization to produce more oil. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg stated this is “one of many reasons why America's energy security will benefit from homegrown clean energy.” 3:25pm- Will OPEC's decision to reduce oil production while demand in the Western-world increases have an impact on the 2022 midterm elections? During a hilarious rant, a self-described Democrat from Florida said he's voting for Ron DeSantis because of the Governor's performance in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.  3:40pm- Jimmy Failla—comedian & host of “Fox Across America”—joins the show to talk about Nancy Pelosi's appearance on late-night television, Stacey Abrams denying her election denial, Trevor Noah exiting the Daily Show, and Elon Musk getting yelled at for trying to stop a war. PLUS, why did one of the best wide receivers in football choose to play for the Miami Dolphins? No state income tax! 4:05pm- While appearing on ABC's Good Morning America, Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-MO) defended the “defund the police” movement calling “police violence” a serious problem in America. According to the Daily Wire, Rep. Bush has “spent more than $300,000 for private security” since 2021.  4:15pm- According to the New York Post, Albany's progressive District Attorney David Soares has acknowledged that his previously implemented soft-on-crime policies resulted in crime rates rising. Will other progressive District Attorney's follow his lead and admit to errors in their prosecutorial strategies? 4:30pm- Michael Torres—Deputy Editor of Real Clear Pennsylvania—joins the show to discuss two of his most recent articles, “Political Malpractice in PA Governor's Race” and “Pennsylvania Democrats' Abortion Mirage.” Torres explains that despite Pennsylvania democrat candidates campaigning heavily on abortion access, polling data suggests likely voters don't consider it their top priority—with 45%, according to Emerson College polling, naming the economy as their most important issue. Abortion stands at only 14%.  4:45pm- Members of the media, particularly MSNBC's Joy Reid, have attempted to politicize Hurricane Ian—using the natural disaster to hammer Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Reid called DeSantis a hypocrite for seeking federal aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian when in 2013 he voted against a Hurricane Sandy relief package. However, as Reason.com points out the 2013 package had not been budgeted for by Congress, explaining: “he didn't object to the aid per se, arguing instead that it should come with spending offsets. The money DeSantis is asking Biden to release, meanwhile, is disaster relief funding that's already been appropriated and budgeted for. It's there to be spent.” 5:05pm- While appearing on Fox News, Gov. Ron DeSantis addressed Vice President Kamala Harris' recent statement that the Biden Administration should distribute Hurricane Ian disaster relief based on “equity”—prioritizing “our lowest income communities and our communities of color.” DeSantis condemned Harris' comment and accused the VP of needlessly politicizing the tragedy.  5:25pm- A G-League basketball player has gone viral on social media—not because of his play on the court, but because of his unique name: Steeve Ho You Fat. 5:40pm- Dr. Michael Busler—Professor of Finance at Stockton University—joins the show. Prior to Hurricane Ian making landfall, President Joe Biden warned the oil industry against using a natural disaster to boost their prices. Dr. Busler defines “price gouging” and explains that federal laws restricting the practice would not actually reduce demand for a given product. In fact, increased prices often result in a rationing of scarce resources and prevent a lucky-few from hoarding much needed materials during emergencies.  6:05pm- In the Wall Street Journal's opinion editorial section, Professor William J. Magnuson stated that the best way for the West to combat oil scarcity stemming from Russian sanctions and OPEC restrictions, would be to allow American business—specifically the oil industry—to resolve the energy shortage via innovation, reduced regulation, and subsequent increased production.  6:20pm- While meeting with President Joe Biden as part of the administration's Task Force on Reproductive Health Care Access, Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona claimed that contraception and abortion were necessary components to a student's success in college.  6:30pm- Speaking with CNN, Stacey Abrams stated that she never denied losing her 2018 gubernatorial election against Brian Kemp. However, numerous clips over the past four years indicate that claim isn't accurate.  6:50pm- A recent VICE News documentary attempted to portray convicted sex-offenders in a sympathetic-manner. However, at the conclusion of the film, it was revealed that one of the offenders interviewed sent lewd photos to a VICE News producer.

Unlike other jab freebies which require citizens to simply flash their poked papers to claim their prize, Joints for Jabs requires pot shops to set up a vaccine clinic inside so only those with a fresh band-aid can claim their jay. Many don't have the space to set up a clinic inside, and healthcare providers are concerned about setting up shop in a place that distributes illegal drugs since that could jeopardize their federal funding. Since the program expires July 12, citizens planning to get poked in the pot shop might not be able to get their second shot in time. Participating pot shops will be able to cash in on a tax break for product they give away unlike alcohol retailers, but that doesn't help much when they are still unfairly facing Section 180E. Arkansas' medical sales exceeded $330 million since the market launched in 2019 and last month, May 2021, Maine hit a new record with $5.4 million in recreational sales. The Montana group opposing the 2020 voter-approved recreational initiative has dropped its lawsuit since Governor Greg Gianforte signed House Bill 701 into law, amending the legalization law voters passed. The lawsuit claimed the initiative was unconstitutional for earmarking a portion of tax revenues from federally illegal marijuana sales, contending only the legislature can determine how tax revenue is spent. Tomorrow, June 16, 2021 at 10 AM, the Connecticut legislature will hold a special session to determine the fate of the recreational weed bill mentioned previously on Bowl After Bowl. Rhode Island will have to wait a little longer for a recreational market, as the backers of three adult-use bills failed to compromise and likely won't before the end of the legislative session the last week of June. Today, Representatives Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) and Cori Bush (D-MO) unveiled the Drug Policy Reform Act (DPRA) to end criminal penalties for drug possession federally and incentivize state and local governments to adopt decriminalization policies by limiting their eligibility to receive funds if they don't. The bill also proposes moving regulatory power from the Attorney General to the Secretary of Health and Human Services, record expungement and resentencing, "reinvesting in alternative health-centered approaches," prohibiting drug tests for individuals to receive federal benefits, prohibiting the use of civil asset forfeiture related to personal drug possession cases, and establishing a Commission on Substance Use, Health and Safety to determine benchmark amounts for drug possession and publish a report including recommendations for preventing the prosecution of individuals processing, distributing, or dispensing personal use quantities. In 2018, Tampa-based Florigrown sued the state over its licensing process which resulted in three of the 22 licensed operators controlling two-thirds of the market. Six license holders account for 90% of sales. They hoped the state would provide standalone licenses for small businesses and break up the vertical scheme, but the Supreme Court just ruled against them in a 6-1 decision saying the Florida Legislature met its constitutional obligations in enacting a limited-license vertical structure. With the lawsuit over, the state's licensing freeze comes to an end. It is likely state regulators will issue 15 new vertical licenses over the next six months. The Ohio State Medical Board added Huntington's disease, spasticity or severe muscle spasms, and terminal illness as qualifying conditions for medical weed. In Colorado, 21 individuals were arrested in connection to a black market marijuana and money laundering scheme. They are accused of growing millions of dollars worth of pot across metro Denver and funneling their profits to China through social media apps. The investigation began in August 2020 and investigators have since seized thousands of plants, hundreds of pounds of packaged pot, and about $1 million. Charges range from racketeering and conspiracy to drug cultivation, distribution, and money laundering. Federal investigators found the money cycled from the US to China to Central and South America, then back to the US. Two individuals were allegedly involved in the illegal Oklahoma grow op referenced in Bowl After Bowl Episode 80: I Shitted My Priorities. Yesterday (Monday, June 14, 2021), the California legislature approved a $100-million plan to strengthen their legal industry which continues to struggle in competition with the emerald market five years after voters approved recreational sales. Grants will be provided to cities and counties to help businesses transition from provisional to regular licenses. It's a complicated process to get a permanent, annually-renewed license from a temporary one, requiring high costs and developing a plan to reduce the harms of the industry's negative environmental impacts. Speaking of negative impacts, Sacramento is being sued by a number of unidentified weed businesses for establishing "Neighborhood Responsibility Plan" fees equal to 1% of gross revenue on top of a 4% business operations tax on gross receipts -- even though the city failed to identify a single negative impact from cannabiz operations. After receiving eight complaints about a growing operation's odor March 2019, Santa Barbara County filed the jurisdiction's first nuisance lawsuit against Island View Ranch and Island Breeze Farms.  The lawsuit also claims Island Breeze hasn't "diligently pursued" obtaining the county and state business licenses to operate and therefore is illegally growing and processing weed. Energy Democracy and Its Discontents feat. Edgardo Sepulveda

Edgardo Sepulveda, a telecoms regulatory economist, returns to the Decouple podcast to discuss energy equity and how it relates to discussions of energy poverty and energy democracy with a deep dive of the June 2 PUblic Power Resolution tabled by Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman.   Electricity is considered a “necessity good” in economics. For a variety of reasons in the industrialized world people will use about the same amount regardless of income. Given, however, that income is not evenly distributed this means that lower income households will spend between 5% to 10% of their income of electricity, compared to just 1% by high-income households.    This results in energy poverty. Edgardo describes the types of programs established to mitigate its depth and incidence. There is broad consensus that such programs have not been sufficient, and together with the climate crisis this has resulted in calls for “energy democracy”, a term first introduced by US activists in the 2000s that has gained traction in Canada and Europe.    Edgardo reviewed a sample of the literature and noted that while there is no accepted definition, it tends to mean greater “energy citizenship” – broader participation in decision-making processes – and also greater individual and community control of energy infrastructure, with a strong preference for localism and renewables. A good conceptual review article is: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2214629620303431  Nevertheless, the empirical evidence is that energy democracy's gains have been modest and many of the policies to promote greater individual and community control of energy have been regressive – that is have resulted in greater income inequality. Figure 7 of this ex-post review shows that 29 of 37 studies looking at feed-in tariffs or NEM were regressive and 7 neutral; https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/abc11f  Chris and Edgardo close off the episode discussing the June 2 “Public Power” Resolution tabled in the US House of Representatives (HR) by Reps. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) & Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), two members of the “Squad.”  The Resolution calls for the Federal government to acquire all private electricity assets and transfer them to lower jurisdictional levels and communities, while requiring 100% renewable generation.    In @Dr_Keefer's words the @CoriBush & @JamaalBowmanNY resolution advocates for an "occupy wallstreet grid." Its ideological commitment to small is beautiful localism, 100% renewables & magical thinking about the grid makes a public power bill into a danger to the public.   As such, the resolution appeats to be a good example of how energy democracy is seen by progressives in the US and provided Chris and Edgardo with a concrete proposal to discuss. https://bush.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/bush.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/Bush%20Public%20Power%20Resolution%20FINAL.pdf Edgardo's Twitter handle is @E_R_Sepulveda

Two freshman lawmakers- Rep. Peter Meijer (R-Mich.) and Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) reflect on President Biden's first 100 days in office and their first months in Congress. Rep. Bush says she's "not prepared" to compromise on qualified immunity as bipartisan talks on a police reform bill are underway. And, the progressive Democrat praised Biden for the "bold" American Rescue Plan. Meanwhile, Rep. Meijer urges his party to reject the most extreme voices in the GOP and offer solutions to voters. Meanwhile, he says Biden has not governed in the bipartisan way he promised on the campaign trail. And, after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty for the murder of George Floyd, what's next for policing reforms? Rep. Pramila Jayapal re-introduced the Medicare for All bill last week with a record 112 original cosponsors - up now to 114. We talk about surprise sign-ons, powerful stories from the cosponsoring Reps, the first national endorsement of a hospital CEO, and the epic organizing effort that got us to this stage! Show Notes Representative Pramila Jayapal introduced H.R.1976 on March 17th, with a record number of original co-sponsors on the bill: 112. That represents a majority of the Democratic members of the House. Ben and Stephanie discuss how far our movement has come in just a few years, evidenced by the largest ever co-sponsor list. Thanks to the hard work of advocates, we have gained two committee chairs as co-sponsors: Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ-6), the chair of Energy and Commerce, and Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL-22), chair of the Ethics Committee. Other new sign-ons include Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL-5), Del. Gregorio Sablan (non-voting member, D-North Mariana Islands), and Rep. Tony Cardenas (D-CA-29). A number of freshman members of Congress also signed on: Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY-16), Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-NY-17), Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY-15), Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO-1), Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-NM-3), Rep. Nikema Williams (D-GA-5), Rep. Marie Newman (D-IL-3), and Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA-53). The bill launch event, held virtually, wasn't business as usual. Some representatives spoke about their own experiences living without health insurance. A business owner from Pennsylvania spoke about how hard it was to run a business and administer health insurance for his employees. The bill received its first endorsement from a hospital system CEO, Dr. Eric Dixon of UMass Memorial Hospital System. Also, for the first time, a leader for racial justice, Patrice Cullors, co-founder of Black Lives Matter, addressed healthcare as a racial justice issue. Thanks to the work of constituents on the ground and allied organizations across the country, there has been extensive organizing in every district represented by those 112 co-sponsors. Democrats Move to Investigate, Possibly Remove Some GOP Legislators From Congress

The Critical Hour

Dozens of Democrats have moved to investigate and perhaps subsequently remove a number of GOP members from Congress.Caleb Maupin, journalist and political analyst, joins us to discuss a move by House Democrats to investigate and perhaps remove a number of GOP legislators from Congress. Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) has co-sponsored a resolution that would investigate House Republicans who sought to overturn the results of the presidential election ahead of last week's pro-Trump protest that ended in violence at the US Capitol. The freshman congresswoman argued in a statement that those found to have supported overturning the election should be removed from Congress and held accountable "for their role in this insurrection." The opposition argues that the members were legally voted in by their constituents and, absent any criminal convictions, should be allowed to serve. Ajamu Baraka, former US vice-presidential candidate for the Green Party, joins us to discuss the flurry of foreign policy moves by the outgoing Trump administration. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is taking actions against Iran and Cuba that seem designed to hamstring the incoming Biden administration's ability to maneuver after US President Donald Trump exits the world stage. Some believe that the moves against Iran are coordinated with Israel and anti-Iranian Gulf states who are concerned about the US returning to the Iran nuclear deal. However, the actions against Cuba seem to be more ideological and part of a broader war against the anti-imperialist bloc forming in Latin America.Medea Benjamin, co-founder of the antiwar organization Code Pink, returns to The Critical Hour to discuss Victoria Nuland, who has been nominated by US President-elect Joe Biden for under secretary of state for political affairs. A group of 25 organizations including Code Pink has penned a letter opposing the nomination of the infamous anti-Russia war hawk. They argue that Nuland "played a key role in facilitating a coup in Ukraine that created a civil war costing 10,000 lives and displacing over a million people" and that it would be extremely dangerous to include her in the US foreign policy decision-making process. They close their letter by stating, "Some US military officials say this demonizing of Russia is all about weapons profits and bureaucratic power, no more fact-based than the Steele Dossier that was given to the FBI by Victoria Nuland."Author and activist Miko Peled joins us to talk about Israel's COVID-19 vaccine program, which has had remarkable success for free Israelis but has not provided inoculations to Palestinians in the West Bank or the Gaza Strip. Palestinian rights activists argue that this is a blatant example of apartheid policies, but Israeli officials counter that "these Palestinians don't fall under their jurisdiction under the terms of the Oslo accords and that it is the job of the Palestinian Authority to procure and distribute vaccines in the occupied territories," the Washington Post reported Tuesday.Ted Rall, political cartoonist and syndicated columnist, joins us to discuss the worldwide response to Trump's removal from Twitter. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has released a statement warning of the "unchecked power" of tech companies, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel finds the Trump Twitter ban "problematic," according to a spokesperson. Noted libertarian Ron Paul has also written an article in which he argues that the latest social media purge is an example of the War on Terror coming home.Nicholas Ayala, editor at the Anticonquista media collective, joins us to discuss Latin America's response to the events at the US Capitol last week. A recent article in the Orinoco Tribune is headlined "The United States Suffers the Same Thing that it has Generated in other Countries with its Policies of Aggression." The article points out that Venezuela recently seated a new National Assembly after a peaceful and successful election in which over 100 parties participated, as the US political system lies in obvious ruins. James Carey, editor and co-owner of Geopolitics Alert, joins us to discuss Afghanistan. The Trump administration continues to reduce troop numbers in the Central Asian country, despite the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) including an amendment that seeks to block planned troop drawdowns. The US-Taliban peace deal signed in February 2020 paved the way for all US troops to leave Afghanistan by spring 2021, but it's not clear if Biden will follow through with the plan.Dr. Linwood Tauheed, associate professor of economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, joins us to discuss an interesting article in Asia Times which argues that China is now "well on track to challenge the US as the world's financial center" while still serving as the leader in manufacturing. It also says that the US losing 140,000 jobs in December 2020 was the "clearest sign yet" that the American economy is in the throes of another COVID-related crash.

Dr. Yolandra Hancock, board-certified pediatrician and obesity medicine specialist, returns to The Critical Hour to update us on the latest coronavirus news. The US patient who has contracted the new virus variant, a Colorado man in his 20s, is now in isolation in the state's Elbert County. While the variant is believed to spread more easily, experts say there's no evidence that it causes more severe sickness. Scientists familiar with the case argue that the man's lack of a recent travel history indicates that this is likely not an isolated case. John Burris, civil rights attorney, joins us to discuss the recent Nashville, Tennessee, bombing. Pamela Perry, the girlfriend of deceased bombing suspect Anthony Warner, reported to authorities over a year ago that Warner was making bombs in his RV, according to a recent report from the Associated Press. However, police never managed to speak with Warner, nor did they inspect his RV. Also, the Louisville Metro Police Department has begun the process of firing two more of the officers who were involved in the infamous raid that resulted in the killing of Breonna Taylor.Ariel Gold, national director for antiwar organization Code Pink, joins us to discuss US arms sales. The Trump administration is apparently ending its term with massive arms sales to the Middle East. The US State Department has approved a potential sale of $4.2 billion worth of weapons to Kuwait and another potential deal for $290 million in bombs to Saudi Arabia, according to the Pentagon. The Saudi deal follows another deal for $478 million in arms for which the State Department intends to issue a license, Bloomberg reported last week. International security experts argue that the massive influx of arms into the region will contribute to instability and continued conflict.Medea Benjamin, co-founder Code Pink, returns to The Critical Hour to discuss her recent MintPress News article on Avril Haines, US President-elect Joe Biden's nominee for director of national intelligence. Benjamin argues, "This unassuming spy may look and sound like your favorite college professor, but that facade masks a ruthless wolf in sheep's clothing who enabled murder by remote control and wielded a thick black pen to cover up CIA torture." The article is written on behalf of a number of progressive activist groups who are calling on the US Senate to reject Haines' nomination. Dr. Gerald Horne, professor of history at the University of Houston, author, historian and researcher, returns to discuss convicted spy Jonathan Pollard. He was allowed to travel to Israel and was greeted Wednesday as a hero by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, weeks after the Trump administration lifted parole restrictions that kept Pollard from going abroad. In the 1980s, Pollard stole and sold top-secret US government documents to Israel while he was working as a US Navy intelligence analyst.Scott Ritter, former UN weapons inspector in Iraq, returns to discuss his latest article about the recent hack of US government websites, which many media outlets have blamed on Russia without concrete evidence. He gives a simplified yet highly technical overview of the cyberattack and then goes on to explain the current environment, including some history of cyber confrontations between the US and Russia. Ritter argues that, regardless of where the hack originated, it was pure intelligence-gathering and did not seem to include any offensive or destructive actions. He maintains that the claims of a Pearl Harbor level-attack are hyperbolic and designed for domestic consumption. James Carey, editor and co-owner of Geopolitics Alert, joins us to discuss Iran. A spokesperson for Netanyahu's office has announced that Israel is unequivocally opposed to the US returning to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear agreement with Iran. The official claimed that the “deal gave Iran a highway paved with gold to build the critical infrastructure for an entire arsenal of nuclear bombs" but provided no details or facts to support the claim. Also, Alan MacLeod penned a recent article in which he argues that the world ends 2020 exactly as it began: with the looming threat of war between the US and Iran.Niko House, political activist, independent journalist and podcaster, returns to The Critical Hour to discuss the ongoing feud in the Democratic Party. YouTube Star Jimmy Dore ignited a firestorm when he suggested that Democrats should use their votes for speaker of the House as bargaining chips to get a floor vote on Medicare for All. Meanwhile, in an ominous sign for mainstream Democrats, incoming Reps. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) and Cori Bush (D-MO) are refusing to say whether they will support House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) bid to lead the party in 2021.
